The restaurant is very well decorated and the food was just ok nothing special and the seating area was very narrow the customer had no privacy apart from their menu they didnt give us any information. Did not explain. According to the way they had plated the food, the price of the food was very high, maybe these people have made the environment in such a way that they give it very expensive or there is a fancy ritual, I think. This was my first experience in this restaurant. The food I ordered had too much salt and too much in the rice

5/9/24: Pictures added, updating my previous review. I went for a birthday dinner, got to sample several appetizers, ordered a steak as my meal, and had an amazing dessert. I must say that this fine dining experience was top-notch, the service makes you feel like royalty. The atmosphere is so relaxing, and calm.

Ordered a $80+ med rare steak and it came well done, not only was my steak not cook to temp but my whole party as well, fries were cold and had a funky taste to them and the shrimp has hard and over cooked, don t come here if you really wanna spend money in some good food. Apps and drinks were delicious. The service was great! Sucks that the food was very subpar. Look at the pic, how do you mess up a med rare steak to well done when you are paying $80+ I could be wrong but the steaks may have been frozen before hand.

The ambiance in this restaurant is ok, kind a dark for my taste. Expensive. Great meals, they offer water, wine, bread and entrees. Ceviche a little salty. If you like to watch the resaca, it s very close, you can ask to b served outside. Recommend it.

I don t really like to give bad reviews. My wife and I had a $200 ticket including tip, we shared a Halibut ceviche, Wagyu Steak and two glasses of wine with desert and coffee. The service was not good and the Steak was not good either. The ceviche was different not as tasty as before. I m not sure what is going on but we will not be going back.

My wife and I have gone to Madeira many times. It is a once or twice a year type of restaurant for our budget. Typically will save it for a celebration or some type of special occasion like a birthday. It is a little bit pricey, but the quality of the food and the atmosphere is reflected in the price. I have never had a bad or even mediocre meal at this place. Everything they serve from the cocktails, to the appetizers, to the salads, to the entrées, to the desserts is fantastic. You will spend a minimum of $40 a person at this location. But you will enjoy yourself. The atmosphere is very upscale and comfortable. It s almost like communal dining because you are so close to the other guests and that can be fine or you can make sure they seat you away from that bench row so you re not too close to other people. There s also a very nice patio for the rare occasion that there are not mosquitoes or too much wind to sit outside and enjoy. All in all I give this place five stars for atmosphere, food and service. It is definitely the finest restaurant in Brownsville buy a long stretch. People come from all over the valley to eat here.

We love Madeira. This is probably the nicest restaurant (I know of) in Brownsville. Every time we go the food is even better than the last time. The appetizer, soup, and entrees are very well timed which is so rare these days. Sometimes it s a little hard to get your server s eye for a refill or the bill, but I think it depends on the server. Staff is bilingual. You should go here!!

We had a wonderful experience and this is a great date idea. You will spend a minimum of $40 per person once tax and tip are considered. The host was incredibly accommodating when we asked to be sat at a smaller table with a little more light. The duck is small, but tasty. The bread basket was diverse. The jack and coke was a perfect blend. I definitely want to return.

Made reservations for our 10th anniversary. Environment was very nice. Service was excellent BUT food left a lot to be desired. Would have been better is somebody would have hidden the salt from the chef. Very big disappointment for $45-50 an entre. Halibut ceviche was incredibly salty but thought it was a fluke but when the entre arrived my steak was undercooked from order, potatoes were al dente at best, and the salt was way over done. Will not return ever.

If your gonna drop $700 on a table at least turn on the heat and get me fresh water that doesnt taste like a fish tank. You can tell a lot from a restaurant by the quality and presentation of water. Most high end places have a chilled glass bottle corked for you. Here, I got to experience the food trap of their dishwasher first hand in the taste of their water glass. Jesus, my duck came to the table cold! Also, fix the WiFi! Not coming back. Worst food Ive had for all my 600+ reviews.

Delicious food. Service wonderful- Oliver Receptionist biased. We had requested a table that could seat 4. There were 2 in our party. One was available. I asked her if we could sit there. Neither of us do well with booths, short legs. Was told no with an attitude. Said they needed for a party of. 3-4. It was not reserved. About 30 minutes after our arrival, she sat a single gentleman there. There was a table for 2 like ours available. It was our 45 wedding anniversary. I had leg cramps all night. This the 2nd time this has happened to us.

Had a reservation for (10/22) and apparently it was never done according to the hostess, we didn t have one for our party. I showed her the reservation from Google and she looked at the book and said we didn t have one still. She then said it was fine and wakes us to the community table and said nothing else. Even after we were done with or evening there she didn t say a word or a have a good evening. Other that the horrible service from this hostess the service and food were very good. Sadly we shall not be returning to place while they have such a rude hostess.

My wife and I decided to treat ourselves for our bdays. We tried this place out and we were not let down. The food is super good. Its pricey but well worth if youre like us and rarely spend on yourselves. Our appetizer, 2 meals and several drinks plus tips came out to around $190.00. I dont regret it. Great experience and atmosphere. The waiters were extremely professional and had every interaction well timed. Kudos to everyone there. Next time we go we are sitting outside on the patio overlooking the resaca.

On a Friday night, my husband and I, along with another couple were looking for a nice place to have dinner. Knowing that it s the weekend, my husband called an hour in advance to reserve a table. The four of us show up at 6 pm and were caught by surprise when the hostess did not seat us. She said there were no tables available because people arrived. I understand that a busy night and the pandemic limits the amount of guests, but we should have been allowed to reserve our table. Very disappointed by the rude hostess and the lack of willingness to work with us. Take your money somewhere else.

Outstanding, before we knew it, we spent 4 hrs there. Lighting is dim and easy on the eyes. Their menu is a cube with a QR code for your phone phone so its easy to read. The music is just loud enough to drown out other tables but low enough to have a private conversation. Our waiter, Pablo, was quick and very attentive. The food was delicious, perfectly cooked the way we ordered it, and presented beautifully. It was so good I made a reservation for my mothers birthday party. The food was ok but the service was to slow. The worse part was management. Unbelievable how they allow all the dirty cups to be stacked up on bar counter area. As we ate we saw the waiters grabbing the dirty glasses, rinsing them in the sanitized sink and reusing. We also noticed someone had spilled a drink and nobody bothered to clean it up and just placed a cone on top of it will not return or recommend. First and last time we go there

After hearing from friends for years how great Madeira was and reading the TA reviews, we finally dined there last evening with special friends. It was marvelous! The contemporary décor is spectacular and unlike anything else in the Valley. The food was out of this world. And the service was impeccable. Three of us had two rounds of Tanqueray & tonic and the fourth member of our party had a margarita on the rocks. The drinks were pricey but great. Then we shared a huge brie & bacon salad. Both couples ordered the chatauebriand (sp?) at probably the only restaurant south of San Antonio serving it. The $45 Penalegre cab from Spain was perfect with the great beef and two sauces. We topped off the meal with two versions of crème brulee (vanilla and carmel), and one was on the house. I had a nice port to finish off a great meal. This meal was as good as any I have eaten in Chicago, LA, or even New York City, tho the $250 price for two was in the same league with those. It was nice to see the restaurant about 3/4 full on a Thursday night. We definitely plan to return, at least for special occasions.

After driving on Frontage Road for several days on a business trip, I turned off to find this real five star treat. No 30 foot neon sign and a drive thru window. Set on a lake was finally what i was looking for. When I sat down, it was the first time I could relax and enjoy an evening with co workers. The food and service was over the top good. I had the tuna tartare and the shrimp as a main dish. Everyone loved it. For dessert they have candied raspberries, never had that before. The owner was friendly and gracious .

This place is a must if you are in the Brownsville area. They are only open for dinner and I recommend reservations. The tuna is absolutely outstanding. My wife and I celebrated our 48th anniversary here tonight and it was truly an unforgettable experience! Christian, our server, was there any time we needed him without being in the way. We started our meal with a brie and prosciutto appetizer and we each had a salad with brie and bacon, along with greens. She had tenderloin medallions and I had the beef tenderloin. We finished all this off with creme brulee. Im still full! All the food was above our expectations! We are already planning our next anniversary there. Add-on for a year later. Went back there for Valentines Day, had the same server, Christian, and nothing had changed. The food is superb, the service was top drawer and we love it!

Horribly small parking lot filled with some of the largest and nastiest speed bumps in the lower valley. Once you enter the restaurant, it does appear upscale and has a nice ambiance. However, the food does not match the opulence you would expect , especially given the high price. It is apparent that what youre paying for is simply an upscale atmosphere without much substance behind it.

Simply the best restaurant in Brownsville. I highly recommend coming here for special occasions. Interesting cocktails and the entire menu is delicious. The service is just as good as the food. The value worth the price. Go and treat yourself.

Last night the atmosphere in the restaurant was not at all pleasant. I want to write an email to the management or owner of the restaurant but incredibly on the restaurants website there is no contact email, the only way to contact the restaurant is by phone. They supposedly have Twitter but the league is not functional. I hope you can provide me with an email for complaints or suggestions, please.

This restaurant is nothing to rave about. The food is mediocre and totally overpriced. The chef refuses to modify any dishes on the menu. The portion of ice cream I received with my dessert was literally the size of an acorn. We asked if we could get more and the chef said NO. One of the servers, Jesse, was extremely rude about the entire incident. This place needs to seriously reconsider how they operate their business.
