The basic concept behind hometown cafe is that you pick 3 dishes and theyll give you some rice, all for $10. Since you queue up for your food, there isnt any service to speak of, but then you also dont need to tip. The ambiance is typical of a Chinese restaurant, but the food is awesome. Furthermore, you get unlimited free soups of your choice. There is usually a spicy soup and a non-spicy soup. As a Chinese, I would personally visit this place everyday if I stay near, as I love the food here.

I lived in China for 4 years before and this is what i was trying to find here in Dallas. The most common Chinese Cafeteria style food. This is what 90% of the people eat in China. Its my favorite restaurant from now on.

This is a home cook cafe style restaurant. They have variety of selection of food to pick from. Simple to order, pick 3 dishes and serve with rice and you can get your own soup. This is a CASH ONLY. They also have a menu you can order from. They do have specialty menu on the weekend. Family always enjoy coming here. Every gets to pick what they like. $10 for a meal. Parking: Free parking since there is not another business next door. Parking lot needs to be repair by owner.

Its lacking in a number of areas (decor, atmosphere, attentive service, etc.) plus its cash only, but you cant beat the value for the amount of food you get. For the price, you get a lot of food, and its not half bad either. I recommend this place if youre eating on a budget and thats all you care about.

This is a Chinese cafeteria style restaurant. Come as soon as they are open to ensure fresh cooked food. Good value for quick eat food selection. $10 with 3 entrees and unlimited soup. Great value if you are not picky for cleanliness. Cash only but ATM is available. My rating. 5 is very satisfy. Taste 4/5 Temp 3/5 Attentive and courteous 4/5 Cleanliness 1/5. Many outdated posters and fade signs. If the visible is not thought of, the kitchen cleanliness may highly be a concern. Vegetarian options: Many Vegan dish selection.

Kinda prefer this place over Taiwan Cafe even if I have been going to the latter for longer. Food here is a bit more consistent and has changed less over the years. Also, lol @ the guy hyped up about the free soup . buddy its a vat of cornstarch slurry with half an eggs worth of egg drop and a few flecks of vegetable. Calm down...

This is a counter service cafeteria style restaurant that specializes in homestyle Chinese food to take home (main business) or eat in. When eating in, rice is provided with 3 dishes for $10. Taking out, the servings are larger but you get two dishes for $12 (without rice) or four for $13 (with or without rice). We got two 3 item combos for dine in and tried red braised pork belly (flavorful but the meat was dry and chewy, the fat and skin were tender), three cup chicken (the chicken was bland but the sauce flavorful; only one piece of chicken was tender, the rest were dry and chewy with small bone shards), spare ribs (good flavor but pretty chewy), Napa cabbage (not to salty, cooked well) with woodear mushrooms, string beans (also cooked okay - not under cooked and just a little over fried - they were greasier than they need to be), and seasoned vermicelli noodles (good flavor). Most of the food tasted okay to good but the texture of the meat was an issue. Most importantly, the temperature was a problem. The three meat dishes were merely warm which made me wonder if they were being held at or above 140°F. The three vegetable dishes were cold (room temperature) but not refrigerator cold (below 40°F). This seems to be a basic food safety issue and I don t think I ll return because of this risk. They do provide a couple different soups for free for dine in customers. (These are served hot.) As for the facilities: the tables are sticky and even after I tried to wipe them down with wet paper towels procured from the bathroom, they remained quite tacky. The bathrooms were clean and had soap and paper towels in stock. Also cash only. Free WiFi (ask them for password).

Recommend the Rice and 3 sides plate to choose 3 sides from the serving station coming with rice. Also recommend the delicious boiled dumplings. Vegetarian options: Some vegetarian dishes for selection from the serving station. Parking: Shared public parking lot with lots of parking space. Kid-friendliness: Kids are welcomed to enjoy the food in the restaurant.

This was our first time and although I do believe in second chances the food here was so bad I dont think Ill be giving it a second chance. We tried the beef ribs, wrapped tofu, caramelized pork, sesame chicken, and 2 other dishes I cant really remember. The worse part about this experience was the cold Food. Everything besides the rice and soup was COLD. Definitely unsafe to eat. The sesame chicken we had was so cold I wouldnt be surprised if it were just taken out of a refrigerator. Nothing here tasted like good Chinese food either. Im very familiar with traditional Chinese and this place just didnt hit any of those marks. Spend your money elsewhere. The cheap price isnt worth it.

This place used to be reasonable and cost efficient for workbees or even family takeout. We enjoyed coming here regularly. It really disappointed us since 6+ months ago, and its now slipped down further. Bumped up the price twice (now $10/Benton box ) within short period of time, we can understand due to inflation and materials price increased a lot. However, the portion of the serving got reduced further meanwhile does not make a logical justification. Didnt they notice the customer headcount is dropping comparing to previous?! Anyone in the store use their brain to find root causes? The serving lady even argues with customers. Poor service and minimum food portion push customer away. It s time for the boss to think carefully and be kind and make money. When the guest raised his opinion, the staff not only failed to improve, but actually argued with the guest. Do you even want to do business? The price has gone up and the quantity of dishes cannot be reduced at the same time. The bean sprouts only cost a few cents, but they don t even fit into one grid? ! Too stingy. We used to go two or three times a week. I will consider changing stores in the future. Sadly, short-sighted. I hope the store can reflect on itself and make improvements in time.

Its cafeteria style. Food is decent but the ladies that served us are quite pushy. It was our first time and they rushed us to make a decision of what to get. We felt rushed and just randomly pointed to the items without taking a look throughout. It was not even crowded or people were waiting behind us for them to rush us through. They have plenty of tables inside for us to eat if dine-in. There were two types of soups self serve for dining in patrons. The restroom was decent, not that clean but decent. We used it to wash our hands only. Plenty of parking as it is in a stripe mall. Easy in and out, not crowded. Decent food for $10/tray with 3 choices and two scoops of rice. Will go back if we are in the area and crave Taiwanese food since it is cheap and decent.

The food was delicious and authentic Taiwanese food! Its almost a buffet style of dishes all laid out for you. If you choose to do the meal deal, its 3 sides with rice and if you dine in you can get unlimited amounts of soup for a total steal of $10. So many choices to pick from and everything was delicious. I do wish the food was warmer/hot than just being laid out but it was still good and fresh. I also got the Taiwanese fried bread stick, pork & cabbage dumplings, and a rice roll. Super good. The pricing is amazing here and you can get full with just that $10 meal or anything else on their menu! I would totally come back in the future for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Its such a convenient place to get a meal, especially even a To go box meal home and super affordable.

Sorry, cant really vouch for the food here but I will say this.. I deliver mail for a living and since I am human while on route I need to relieve myself from time to time. This place is near my route and the owner graciously tolerates my utilizing the restroom facilities without patronizing the business. I mean I never have time when I go in their to eat, but here is my real plug for this place when I pass by the front where all of the food choices are divided out in separate portions it is very very hard not to stop and eat, time or no time! It all looks and smells fresh and delicious! I keep promising them I am going to come in one day after work and get some of their food but I havent been able to do so yet. But, I will soon, I promise, and I will do an updated review afterwards. The prices are good too. Roughly $10 for a full to go box and white rice. They also have fresh soups as well. Peace and Love, and good eats, Jack.

The food is good and although it appears to have gone up in price, $9 is still incredibly cheap for the quantity and quality, and price increases are to be expected with the cost of food these days. Well be back!

Found this place by surprises. They opened 10a on Sat and Sun to serve breakfast. We just want small and quick bite and it was perfect. Food fresh and delicious, authentic taiwanese dumplings. Then we see non-stop customer came starting 11a for the bento take outs. We also took one home and it was the best we have in Dallas. Its fresh, well cook, and authentic. The price also very nice but cash only. Customer service also very good and well coming. We will be there many weekends from now :-)

I frequent this place to get a takeout ,even during past year, however, one of the staff today did not wear a mask when handling food during COVID. I told them my concern and asked them to swap the food and handle the food wearing a mask. Instead they chose to refund me and take the food away, but the lady was very rude and showed me a temper do not come back in the future , I will not return with that attitude.

In terms of value, this place is great. Food quality wise, its pretty dependent on when you show up. Try to show up early. Also they only take cash.

One of the best place for college students and for anyone on a budget. Great quality and quantity Taiwanese food. $7 for a big tray with 3 dishes of your choice + 2 scoops of rice + unlimited soup + water. They have 2 different kind of soups, egg drop soup and radish & mushroom soup. I recommend getting the radish & mushroom soup. Cash only!! Self-service restaurant with excellent customer service from the owners. Tips: come early in the day for better food choice. If you come late, they only have left over food. Cons: Very sticky rice. But in general, everything is great. No complaint.

Good Chinese university type of cafeteria food. Competitively priced. 7 bucks got me 3 servings of different dishes such as sweet sour ribs, fried fish, mapo tofu. Wife and I are for lunch between us. $3.50 per person not bad. Also free soup for dining in. Cash or Zelle only.
