So many contemporary pieces. Loved so many of them. I took a lot of photos and made memories with my son. The lil souvenir shop was cute too, and the lil restaurant- Crepe Town- fille the air with a yummy smell.

Despite the price tag, this museum is TINY. Only 2 galleries. One had a boring pile of average memorabilia like brochures and boxes. The other had nothing but advertising. Yet they charged for this. Look, I dont expect ANYTHING for free... but two galleries. Plus both were full of chairs, making it hard to move around. The best artifact is the replica Egyptian statue outside. Add in terrible parking and its a disaster. I only added a second star because they occasionally host art by local high school students so they are active in the community.

I ve come to visit this museum two times now on different occasions and both times it stated on the website and online that it would be open for visitors, this however was not the case. We came spring of 2023 and spring of 2024 and the same situation happened to us, they told us on both occasions sorry we re closed due to an exhibition installation . The lack of clarity online is what is most frustrating aside from the fact that we re visiting from 18 hours away. It s disappointing to see that we couldn t even check out any sort of art piece while visiting and were asked to leave. Until the hours posted online are accurately portrayed, we will not be returning to this Art Museum. Please reflect accurate hours of operation, which should include when the museum will be closed to due installations.

Ive been here multiple times already, each time I bring a different friend that has never been here before. The atmosphere is warm and cozy, the staff is very kind, and the food is amazing! I need to warn you though, you must come with a hearty appetite! If youre lucky, you may get to hear the saxophonist playing also. Highly recommend!

Im not an educated Art Critic, but there was only something like 50 pieces of art in total to look at. Half were portraits which depending on what your definition of fine art is might not be what you would be anticipating.

I am so glad we visited the Museum. It is small, and does not take long to see everything, however I really enjoyed the exhibits. A visit to CrepeTown which is housed in the museum was great for lunch and a beverage. If you appreciate local art, please support the Museum. We walked to the museum from the bus station, which was about a mile each way.

The artist exhibit was grand. His lifes work was amazing. The permanent collection was more like a collection of art found at a high end vintage shop. Its nice, but not what I typically associate with museum quality. Maybe the Brownsville elite have more urgent interests to invest in rather than art? Anyway. I am glad I went. The crepe shop was delicious.

Centrally located in downtown Brownsville (Mitte Plaza) the museum provides permanent collections and visiting artist exhibits. There is a restaurant within and a gift shop. On Weekdays-talented, local artists can be seen in action. If your going to the Gladys Porter zoo- it is across the street! Note: The museum is located in an area which will soon facilitate a new building for the city farmer s market (See photos of the ribbon cutting On March 20,2022).

So sad to enter my hometown museum to view my daughter s art piece in the fine arts exhibition, to only be closed out due to a private baby shower event. Not even notified or mentioned in the website of such change. The Brownsville museum should have honored its exhibition opening hours to the community of the town s talented artists and shouldn t DECLINE for the artist, herself, to see her artwork be displayed!!!! Never will my daughter exhibit her art pieces in this museum again.

This building is just beautiful inside and out. It is very evident that it is well cared for. The price per person to enter is not bad at all. Only complaint would be I would consider this to be more of an art exhibition than a museum. As it features local artists and changes the items frequently. It is also very small inside as only had two rooms with art besides the grand hall when you enter. There was not much art on display to view either. I would say it took under 30 mins even taking photos to see everything on display. If you are in the area it is worth checking out but keep in mind what you are getting. Perfect to hit before or after the zoo.

Its a small town museum and reflects that spirit. It is primarily 4 galleries and on the day we visited hosted a main exhibition by a national artist held in 2 galleries and in the ancillary wings, there was a group exhibition of local talents and a solo by a regional artist. Honestly wasnt expecting the Menil but assumed that the lights would of been turned on to view the paintings. Overall a cute and raw fine arts haven.
