Im kind of an al pastor snob. I thought these were legit. I especially like the thin slices of pineapple. I prefer my tacos on the smaller tortillas like the street tacos. These were on larger tortillas. Lots of meat in each taco. Absolutely would eat here again.

We waited about half an hour for our tacos and 45 min for 1 beverage. I tried one of each lunch taco and found the tinga and al pastor the most flavorful. However all the tacos were under salted and the fillings were overcooked. The bistec was the worst as it was too tough and dry to eat. The horchata latte wasnt properly prepared and tasted like a wet bag. We had asked them about the beverage 3 times only for the staff member to sloppily make it in a rush the third time we asked. There may have not been enough people working today, but it was a rough experience and I dont imagine being back here.

Dawn breaks, and with it, the promise of an invigorating start at Vaquero Taquero, an oasis of culinary delight that punctuates the morning with an exclamation of flavor and zest. Here, within this humble sanctuary of sustenance, $3 breakfast tacos are not merely a dish; they are a revelation, a symphony of textures and tastes wrapped in the warm embrace of freshly made tortillas. Each bite is an exploration into the sublime, where the mundane alchemy of egg, cheese, and chorizo transcends, becoming a mosaic of flavor that dances upon the palate with a vivacity seldom encountered in the realm of morning fare. The chorizo, with its deep, complex spiciness, interweaves with the velvety smoothness of the eggs, creating a tapestry of taste that is both bold and comforting. But what is a morning feast without the libation of the gods? Vaquero Taqueros drinks with espresso are nothing short of liquid artistry. Each sip of their meticulously crafted espresso carries with it the vigor of a hundred sunrises, a potent nectar that awakens the senses and kindles the spirit. The richness of the coffee, sourced from beans that have journeyed from exotic locales, offers whispers of distant lands and the promise of adventures yet to unfold. The ambiance of Vaquero Taquero, with its unassuming charm, serves as the perfect backdrop to this morning ritual. It is a place where time seems to slow, allowing for a moment of reflection and appreciation for the simple yet profound joys that life offers. In sum, Vaquero Taquero does not simply serve breakfast; it curates an experience. An experience where every $3 taco is a masterpiece of flavor, every sip of espresso an invigorating embrace, starting the day not with a mere bang, but with a triumphant symphony of culinary excellence. Here, in this haven of morning delight, one is not only nourished but reborn, ready to face the day with renewed vigor and zest.

Was visiting the city and was in the mood for tacos. With a name like the one it has I had my hopes up for this place. This review is for tacos only.... I did not have any other things on menu. Here we go...for a restaurant that literally has tacos in its name they only offer 3 different tacos. Out of the 3 different tacos, only one is close to being original... The al pastor and theyre just ok. Their asada tacos have tomatoes! Real tacos dont have tomatoes! If i want tomatoes in my tacos Ill go to taco bell and get them cheaper... If youre looking for OG tacos, this is not the place. There are other places in Austin that have OG tacos. Other than that, place was cozy...service was friendly, but if youre in the mood for good OG tacos, this not the place.

Small place on a corner with a couple of tables to sit. Service is nice and quick. Tacos al pastor al flavorful. Could use a little more protein to fill the tortilla. Their green sauce is delicious and mildly spicy. I also had a campechana that was good but it was at best lukewarm warm when served. It had a nice cheese crust and the flavor was there.

these tacos are so damn good. the staff was super friendly. tacos were pretty expensive when we went (4$ each), but theyre actually a good size for the value. it looked like the corn tortillas were handmade too, they were so soft and delicious. i personally recommend the bistec, it was favorful and tender. i went with my family who tried the al pastor and tinga tacos, according to them those tacos are just a touch too greasy but still amazing flavor and tenderness. the salsa is super great too! the red salsa feels like it explodes in your mouth but is eventually bareable, and the green salsa builds up to a bit of a hotter spice. the horchata is great too! sweet, cinnamon-y, with some of that homemade grainy texture from the rice bits. i would highly recommend to anyone looking for some good, freshly made tacos. Ill be coming back to try other stuff on their menu too!

Today I ordered delivery through their website and the driver never came. Worst of all, the staff at the restaurant weren t able to give me a refund because they didn t have access to their manager s accounts. It s really a shame because the food is excellent. Ordered 3 tacos on Doordash for lunch delivery. Spent $20 for an al pastor and 2 bistec tacos, and to say that I was disappointed is an understatement. The bistec was dry and was a weird grey color (as though boiled) and had almost no flavor. The Al pastor was also dry and completely lacking in flavor, which I didnt think would be possible. Hoping they were just having an off day because Ive come here once before and the food was great...but most likely would not be coming back.

I got 3 tacos: - Tinga de Pollo (chipotle marinated chicken with cilantro, purple onions, and creme) - Campechana Quesadilla (Al Pastor, beer, cilantro, onion, red salsa, avocado creme, and Oaxacan cheese) - my fav one - Chicken Mole (rice, chicken, and mole) My overall impression is that they have great flavor and the tacos are a good size. Price aint that bad, particularly with the quesadilla ones since that one was pretty filling. You could get 2 of those and be just fine!

We stumbled upon this location on lazy Saturday afternoon when tacodeli had a hella long wait. I m comparison, they had about a 15 minute wait and I think it was even done earlier than that. Since then, we ve had vaquero in heavy rotation. Always top notch, always tasty and they re even carried by some of the best coffee shops in the city. The piña agua fresca is one of my faves in the city for something refreshing with the Texan heat. My partner is from San Antonio so we appreciate their tortillas are flavorful and soft. (Corn and flour) Also, it s pretty affordably priced which is saying something in Austin. My only gripe is that they re not open on Sundays cause it s a prime brunch food option but I get it, they have to have a weekend too. Vaquero is an underrated gem and it s surprising how many folx sleep on them for some less flavorful alternatives. Check em out!

Taquero Vaquero was the first restaurant that my buddy and I hit when we came to Austin for the first time. We had the al pastor quesadillas and absolutely had our minds blown by how amazing it was. My only complaint is that this restaurant has single handedly ruined my expectations for any other taco/quesadilla joint in the city; as no other place can match up. I m constantly comparing other restaurants to this spot and none of them can come close to comparing. This place is a gem and there new location down on dirty 6th has become a staple to hit after a night out at the bars. I d put their food and service above any other restaurant in the city. My stomach is growling even writing this post! Viva la Taquero Vaquero!

So good! This place is too good for this student neighborhood, but I wont complain bc I find myself there frequently. I got their Tinga de Pollo, and it was perfect. In fact, maybe I shouldve bought 2.

The chicken tinga is a religious experience. The corn tortilla, no matter which taco you get, is one of the lightest yet substantial tortillas I ve ever had. Pastor, bistec, doesn t matter, all tasty. But again: the tinga.

The Al pastor taco was good but the frijoles taco was essentially a can of pinto beans dumped into a taco. It was runny and flavorless. I tried to make it better by adding some salsa, but that didn t help. The location is strange too - some plastic chairs next to wooden tables outside. The inside wasn t open for dining at all. They also didn t have any drinks or a bathroom.

Very disappointed that they no longer have birria meat. This was the best place for it. Amazing Birria but they took it off the menu without even an announcement to customers! Bring back the birria. This will go to five stars if it s back. Update: back to 5 stars. I appreciate the response. I may try some other stuff out but really doubt it ll be better than the birria. Only reason I want to order from here

The delivery food is not well organized. We have company ordered dinner every week. The staff put different orders into same box, which makes it very difficult for us to separate the food. Its also not very convenient that they dont speak English. Hopefully they see this review and can put each order into an individual box and label the name properly.

This was the second stop on a Taco Crawl for a group of four that we created based on Google ratings. So starting with the positives. The group all agreed that the Al Pastor was the real MVP! We tried the quesadilla and taco both using corn tortillas. The quesadilla was like nothing Id ever had. The carmelized cheese crust seriously takes it to another level. We enjoyed the sauce which had a great kick at the end. Unfortunately everything else was underwhelming. We tried the bistec, pollo de tinga, and chicken mole all on corn tortillas. I was really excited about the mole however it didnt have a ton of character (ie. Smokey, spicy, or sweet) to elevate the protein.

Good flavor, however it would have been better if it was hot! My tortilla was not hot at all The chicken was warm enough. I has the Mole which needed a little more Mole to taste like Mole. The chicken tinga was good. A bit pricey I paid $28 for 6 tacos and a small Jamica

I have had a couple of locals recommended Vaquero Taquero to me. I finally tried it and here was my experience. The tacos themselves were good not great. The tortillas are not freshly made nor especially good. The Bistca had chunks of fat in with the meat but some people like that. I dont care for jicama on my tacos but it seemed to work with these tacos. The Al Pastor was very greasy. The flavor was not there and tasted like leftover meat. All in all not very good. I am not going to crave them later. To be fair I grew up in San Antonio and I am accustomed to delicious, cheap homemade tacos. Austin has very few places that compare. Here is the bad part. The place is always closed and when open you have to sit on the site if the street on makeshift tables a chairs. So this place is best for drunk college kids who have never had real tacos before. They are $4-5 dollars each it took then about 2 minutes to make then. They were not very hot in temperature. I was given no napkins. The POS card machine was like many here in Austin so as you pay a tab-like scenn is flipped over so you can add a tip. The very first selection was a gratuity of $3 and change. It is like come on. What service are you offering me besides the very very minimum to even make a purchase? It is dishonest to prey off of people who may not be paying attention. The pictures on Google do not represent what I received so I will add a picture of my $12 plate. If you are thinking of trying Vaquerro Taquero allow me to recommend Tysons Tacos on Airport, open 24 hours, cheaper prices, and way better quality.

Quite good breakfast tacos. Substantial. $3. Lunch is good also. Slightly more costly, around $4. Two is a meal. Flour tortillas are very average, but corn are good.

Solid. Good but not great. Is this way better than, say, Torchys Tacos? Absolutely. Are these the best tacos Ive ever had? No. But what they WERE were inexpensive, tasty, fresh and fast. And sometimes that just really hits the spot. The Al Pastor tacos were great and the pineapple agua fresa is a hidden gem for sure. Was shocked that there was no line or wait on a Saturday around 3. Would definitely come back.

Top 2 taco places in all of Austin! Still havent found authentic pricing for tacos (around $2 bucks a taco) but its Austin so you know. Only pet peeve is they do seem a little irked when you come about 30 mins before close. I get it but man sometimes its the only time you can make it

Best kept secret on 6th!! We had to find some shelter and a good taco after getting rained out of a concert at Moody. Stumbled upon this place; and I think it s possibly one of the best tacos I ve had. We got here late (8:30pm on Tuesday - they close at 9), but the service was still impeccable. Food was absolutely incredibly. Beer was ice cold. I couldn t even tell they we re about to close. Tacos had a great amount of meat. Quesadilla was delicious and very cheese. It seemed like the cheese was even grilled! And the rice & beans were perfect. Alan was absolutely amazing! He was so friendly and helpful. We started getting stormed on and he RAN outside to help us get our stuff inside. He was super attentive and respectful. I genuinely can t praise this place enough. Will be back - often. Only downside is dealing with dirty 6th to get here.. but it s literally worth it.

Me and my husband came here and ordered 2 chicken mole tacos 1 chicken tinga taco and a bistec quesadilla with two aqua Frescas. They gave us a bistec taco instead of a quesadilla and before I could go to get what I paid for my husband told me to forget it and ate the taco and loved it! Their chicken tinga and mole are delicious!!! The seating area isn t great but you can always park and enjoy food in your car like we did. Their aqua frescas the pineapple ones are so good and not to sweet would definitely recommend!

Al pastor and bistec are amazing, I also like the chicken tinga taco. The best charro beans I ve had in Austin, hands-down. Not a sit-down kind of place, but this place still made me drop my Taco Joint addiction. Honestly, no comparison, this place is surprisingly one of my favorites in Austin.
