Just went with my family for a pleasant walk away from the city. Nice helpful staff in the visitor center that told us where we could go, the type of trails and distances. People were swimming in the falls, not too busy. We booked a time slot online as we know that it can become very busy and you are not allowed in.

What a nice place. Clean, inexpensive, lots of things to do. Cycling, hiking, swimming. For swimming there are two magical places. The upper falls and the lower falls. Both places are beautiful. For the view the upper falls is more beautiful and for swimming the lower falls is easier. I would absolutely return, kind and dedicated staff Toilets: We have our motorhome so we didnt use the toilets but there are plenty of them Dog-friendliness: Dogs are allowed everywhere but must be on a leash Picnic area: Very beautiful places to picnic in the shade

The park was beautiful, there were a lot of trees, there was an old house of Thomas McKinney, once the owner of this ranch. Thomas McKinney is not a famous person in Texas history, but he financially supported the Texas Revolution. His grandson gave the ranch land to the state and it is now a National State Park. Waterfalls, however, is a strong word, or rather rapids. And it s so beautiful, nature, fresh air, but there are no waterfalls there!

Definitely worth visiting at least once. The staff are very nice and helpful despite being understaffed. The park hosts however are a different story. Theres one older woman, who typically runs the guard shack after the rangers have left for the day. Whos a little rude to people who are checking in after hours. As long as you dont refuse a map or put the permit on the wrong side of your windshield you should be fine however I got snipped at on two separate visits for these reasons Toilets: The bathrooms seem fairly clean although some of them are out of order. The one along campsite 40 only has one working toilet. Also the handicapped stall is being worked on and reeks of sewage. Dog-friendliness: Unless you plan on hiking this isnt really a pet friendly park. Dogs must remain on leash at all times and AR not allowed on/in/near the falls. Not that it stops people

One of the prettiest state parks in Texas and its located incredibly close to Austin making it very accessible for types of nature lovers. The majority of the trails are flat and easy terrain to navigate. There are two main swimming spots in the park, upper and lower falls respectively. That go near other sections that are just as beautiful and often overlooked. The picnic area offers a beautiful view of the creek while keeping the areas between tables low enough for setting up your own hammock or shade structure.

Fishing is good here in Thomas mckinney former owner park. Theirs cat fish, Rock Bass, and strange looking water eels here . Theirs a lot of historical rock that he built as walls and homestead. A whole lot of lime stone scenery. I like it because your away from the city pollution lights and thick wooded breath taking out into the country escapade. The night fishing is the best. Cabins are great but you need to bring your own blankets the amenities are provided as follows, a medium size refrigerator, a microwave, a sink, picnic table inside and out, no restrooms in the cabin, its walking distance and the showers combined with it. Theirs trails here if you like to venture into the wooded rabbit hole surrounded by forest atmosphere.

We recently visited McKinney State Park in Austin with our kids and stayed in one of the cabins, and it was an amazing experience! The park is a beautiful escape from the city, with trails that are perfect for young kids. The hike we took was just the right level of challenge, allowing the kids to explore nature while still being manageable for their age. The scenery was gorgeous, and we had so much fun exploring together. The cabin was comfortable and a great place to relax after a day of adventure. Highly recommend for families looking for a fun and nature-filled getaway!

We visited this park on 1st week of August, camped for 3 days at campsite 47, loop Grapevine. Site was very spacious and well maintained, super close to the restrooms. Nice swimming area, note that you are not allowed to bring food or coolers to the swimming area, only if you have a table at the picnic area, so plan accordingly. Nice trails, well maintained as well. The restrooms would need some upgrade and restoration, or at least to be cleaned every day. (It seems restrooms in our area were not cleaned during our stay, hence 4 stars). Park is located very close to the city, grocery stores and restaurants near by, and also good Wi-Fi :) Funny Note: there are many turtles in the swimming area, Don t be surprised if you get bitten by one

The worst State Park we have visited! How to mix tourists, homeless people and drug addicts in the same space! When we arrived, we noticed that the places were not flat or almost inaccessible. Our place was not suitable so we went around the campsite to find something better... There, we noticed that a car was moving suspiciously in the park. We noticed that this motorist was going round to restock the campers with small plastic bags... half of the places were occupied by old dilapidated ones where people were sleeping inside. Some brought scrap metal beds onto the deck of the pickup. Later, we even noticed that people in a bad state were wandering between the caravans. During the night, an old car was still running suspiciously. No security vehicles were seen during our stay. In the morning a ranger came and stopped us to tell us that our car was parked incorrectly. We told her that we pressed it against our caravan because a man in the evening tried to open the doors, she was not surprised! Shortly after, she evicted our neighbor who had not paid for his night. During our discussion with the park manager, he was not surprised by our statements and reimbursed us for our next five nights. We were not even reimbursed for the terrible night we spent at this place, we should have done like our neighbor, not paid, we would certainly have been treated better. We dont talk about the dirt in the park and the hundreds of cockroaches in the squares...

The falls are absolutely gorgeous and I love the rock formations! The rock shelter is a must see. Gorgeous trails! Unfortunately, the amount of trash took away from the beauty. We camped and the shower/bath were gross. I have stayed at many state parks, and Ive never had issues using the public showers. Ive never seen showers as filthy as these were in all my camping adventures Toilets: The showers had mold, and dirt up and down the walls. Toilets appeared not to be cleaned in weeks if not months. My husband said that the mens bathroom smelled heavy of urine. The floors had clearly not been cleaned properly. One morning we seemed girl do a quick sweep. But she left dead bugs and spiders in the corner. She did not mop, in the floor was in need of a good mop.

Beautiful place, not much flowing water, only one waterfall at the upper falls flowing, you can jump off the cliff there but Becareful there is rocks that you could hit if u don t jump in the correct spot so definitely look where your jumping and swim the area so u know the depth to where your jumping! If u plan on going to the water, dogs aren t allowed to swim and you have to keep your cooler, etc at picnic tables which are a lil walk from the swimming area! For the most part it was a nice place just too many rules, which I understand not all people respect nature like they should! Remember when going into nature, bring back more than what u brought with u and leave it in better shape than when u found it!

We had to use the short shower and couldnt even shower properly. I hit my head on the wall because the shower head was too close to the wall. The water had lots of trash. It was too close to the main road we could hear sirens, airplanes, and helicopters at night. We ended up leaving a day early. We will definitely not be back to this one.

For example phone numbers are not posted nor was it provided on receipt while visiting the Falls and not a camper. It would have also been nice to be reminded that staff would not be available at 7:20 although their hours say they close at 7:30. I had hoped to file a report because my daughter lost her phone that was protected in a case in the murky water. Overall the hike and water temperature was great! Dirty water with trash and litter everywhere. We visited the lower falls for the 1st and last time this weekend. The area could have been nice if it wasnt for all the trash in the water right under the falls. Theres a whirl pool under the falls that has accumulated a large amount of trash that has clearly been there for a long long time. Theres glass bottles everywhere. Theres trash all along the shoreline. I saw three Park Rangers crammed behind a small desk taking everyones money to visit the park in the first place. That is a one-man job. The other two should be patrolling the park and picking up trash. When was the last time yall actually went down there and got eyes on of the condition of the falls? Clearly its been a while because you cannot miss all of the trash. Whatever schedule they have where they do this as maintenance needs to be doubled or tripled. In other words it looks like you guys are only doing trash clean up every so often. You need to pick up that interval or higher more people or hire people that are willing to do their job. What a disgrace to let parks with our state logo on it get to this condition. The trash is in the water which affects everything. Yall should be walking that Park every day picking up trash.

Staff was very polite and informative. I love the little store by the entrance. You can get your National Parks Passport stamp, cute stickers, patches and souvenirs .

This was a cute little state park. When we went in early July the water was unfortunately not running and was more of a trickle. It was also very busy. The places where there was water left were full of people with tubes and who had set up for a day at the lake. The entrance fee is 6 dollars per person which is different than other state parks I have encountered. I am very curious to see if it looks like the photos in spring.

Love this park! We spent a day in Upper Falls and made our way down the creek. This is a nice spot where kids can get in the water and where you can also fish. Lots of fish and the park is clean. Its uneven surface, wear an appropriate shoes, rocks are slippery.

It was our (my kids and I) first time coming to this park. So I didnt know exactly what I could bring or not bring, didnt know the picnic area was close by(mind I had kids loud voices around me in my car). Less to say; I hope to go again but this time with the father of my kids so I can swim around and enjoy it more as family. The place is ok, if you hike then its a go for and wear water sandals/shoes .

One of the best state parks we ve visited. Swimming spot was walking distance to our rv site. Creek to splash in and a large swimming hole with a small beach area and rocks to jump in by the waterfall. Camping site was paved, pull through, level and private. Loved it.

Omg! Huge place! We are visiting from Cali. We went to check it out. Theres an area on section 3 that you can get in the water & jump off rocks. Has a cute small cave. You can walk on the rocks where theres not much shade or You can walk to the other side where theres shade. We also walked in that trail to the right of the building there to see Old Baldy. Nice walk thru the woods. You cant feel the heat in there. Picnic area: There is a little picnic area close by but on other side of the bushes

McKinney Falls State Park is known for its nice biking and walking trails. The park features both the Upper and Lower Falls, which offer scenic views. The Lower Falls is particularly popular because it provides easy access to the water, making it a great spot for wading. Additionally, the park has several picnic areas and offers camping facilities, making it a great destination for outdoor activities, family gatherings, and extended stays in nature.
