This has been my first soul food restaurant since I arrived here. There have been others that have popped up, however in my opinion this one has the best flavor of fried chicken and fish. Cant beat the music or the hospitality. I always come back to this place.

The chicken and waffles are a must-try especially the half-and-half waffle paired with 3 perfectly seasoned, crispy chicken wings. It was love at first BITE! And the sides? Yassss HUNTY! Got chicken, fish and tender waffle plate and it was SO good. That waffle gotta have something in it because it s just scrumptious Update: food was good so I decided to try again for to go. I had to update the review after a horrible experience. We called for to go, went inside and was acknowledged by several staff but no one went to the front desk to ask what we wanted we stood there for another 5 minutes until I had to go ask someone to help us out but even then we got stared at rudely?? Like I just wanted to pick up my to go order. Food wasn t even that good either.

The significant other and I are here celebrating our anniversary. First of all, the waiter Christian was very polite and attentive. The food was delicious and favorable. Usually a good experience but one of the staff was extremely dismissive and did not acknowledge customers at all. Luckily the other young lady present was very kind. The food is normally great but this time the pork chop was noticeably smaller, the yams were not good at all (clearly from a can) and the red velvet had a very off-putting weird taste. I will still patronage this place as the food is usually great but will avoid these items now, moving forward.

I was traveling and stopped in Austin for the night. Heard about the oxtails at rolling roosters gave them a try and they were great. Our waitress, her name was Zee , took care of everything with perfection. The oxtail dinner came with two sides and I got collard greens for both of mine. Very good also

Peach cobbler was the worst I ever had. The chicken was the only thing edible. Mac and cheese was like noodles then sliced cheese over it then dumped with black pepper. Food so bad I cant try again. This was a pick up order so I got a real experience. I wont try again. Respectfully others have tried and it was ok. When going out with friends if they want to come here, fine but I pass.

Since moving to Austin, finding good comfort food has been hard. I ordered the fish plate. I ordered a side of banana pudding for $7. I was so disappointed. spending $7 on a small container of banana pudding with 3 vanilla wafer cookies in it. The banana pudding was runny and nasty. It was not worth the price. I did not like the fish either. It was something about the breading that was not good. I wasted $35.

For those who read reviews first here you go. I came here off the reviews as a first timer. I will say the music will greet you and set you in a jammin mood. I dined in and got the chicken and waffle. To my surprise there was an option to get half red velvet and the other original (for us indecisive people). The presentation was standard BUT I need REAL SILVERWARE. Now on to the food the waffles we good, but on the softer side(if that s how you like yours). The chicken wings were fried to perfection. Not extra hard or burnt and the seasoning was perfect. I would have given 5 stars but I need real silverware not a cheap plastic set. My server was attentive and very kind as well.

Went to visit this place from out of town and sad to say that scammers live and work here. I used my card one time on my trip and it was ran by another southern restaurant in a town over. So that means somebody at this restaurant took a picture of my card and used it somewhere else. Texas has a bad reputation for scammers and just no good for nothing people. I 100% support black owned or restaurants in the Austin area that has good soul food. I live in another city (Georgetown) and asked my daughter where can I get good chicken gizzards. She recommended Rolling Rooster and I abliged. I placed my order to go. I arrived my order was ready. The young lady who checked me out had a very difficult time giving me the correct amount of change, but it was ok as she was very nice. We returned home and was ready to eat and noticed the chicken gizzards where extremely hard on the outside, not seasoned, very tough as if they were not correctly prepped to be tender.Thus, they were not edible and we chose not to eat them. I felt we wasted our money and hopefully, if we return, things will be better.

Gotta give it the five stars. Come here for what they are best at. Stick to the fried chicken, shrimp and fish. I had the chicken and waffles and it was absolutely delicious. Crispy, crunchy, melt in your mouth! The waffle was fluffy, crunchy and buttery, almost caramelized on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The sides were great as well. I went to get some food while visiting Austin and my friend took me to this place. We called ahead (like an hour before close), no one answered the phone. We called again, they let it ring. We then decided to drive there because we d have 20 minutes to order and get our food to take out. I went inside to order and was told that I couldn t order. I told her I was from out of town and was it any way? She said no. Although a guy pulled up a minute before us, placed his order and sat in his car. We sat outside waiting to find another place to eat and an older man walked inside and we saw him being ALLOWED to place his order. He sat inside and waited (we sat in the lot about 15 minutes total after I was denied). It was crazy. So, 1 star for sure, due to those issues. It s really disheartening to even write all of this, but it only drives business away tbh. Loyal customers (like my friend) and the business of new people (like myself, potentially moving to the area).

For someone to spend over $100 for anything you would expect Decent service and better quality. Oxtails not tender at all the big ones are so tough. I am on vacation here and did do research thought I may have found a good spot but I m so disappointed. My teenager wouldn t even touch the pork chops cause his first bite he found a hair. He ordered Mac and cheese and sweet potatoes they gave him two sweet potatoes that look like puréed baby food. Taste as if they were attempting to start a sweet potatoe pie. Although I count this as a Lost I pray you all take this review and correct the issues that exist within this establishment. The cornbread was the best thing on the menu. My toddlers ate the Mac and cheese but it was dry to me and my family.May God bless you and your establishment.

I ve been here several times but I ve been going to Whip my soul because the food was similar and closer drive for me BUT NOT ANYMORE. This was by far the worst food I ve had in a while. The chicken didn t have season, my waffle was burnt, service was slow. I thought this was a place I could rely on for food. Rolling Rooster has catered our athletic banquet the past 3 years, at our student-athlete requests! They love the chicken wings and waffle fries the most, but the mac and cheese is a CLOSE second!!! The staff are very professional and accommodating, they arrived early to ensure that our large order would be ready at 11am (their opening time). I believe they went out, killed the chicken, milked a cow and grew wheat while we waited for our food. Even though it took three centuries, the food was extremely good and worth the very long wait. My biggest regret was not ordering more. It was literally finger licking good. My only suggestion would be to add some grilled stuff, because I went in a snack and came out a full course meal.

Wife and I found the Rolling Rooster casually searching/reading reviews for soul food places online, so we pulled up to check them out for ourselves. Dont let the location/building fool you. The food here packs PLENTY of flavor, and the portions are considerably generous, all while the prices are very reasonable. I had the jerk lamb chop appetizer and Ill just say they need this in a full meal deal! 3 perfectly grilled small lamb chops on a bed of yellow rice, jerk seasoned, grilled and tasty! My main course meal included the Sample Platter with 1pc Fish, 1pc Chicken, and 1pc Pork Chop with Mac n Cheese and Collard Greens. The samples were full size pieces of each!! My wife had the 2 pork chop meal covered with brown gravy, mac n cheese, collards and the yams. All of it was tasty and fulfilling. The atmosphere is relaxing with some soft old school R&B playing and the waitress/service was very pleasant and attentive. They also have a full bar, but we did not order alcohol. Overall great food, cozy atmosphere, good service, and relaxing vibe. Highly recommend. We will definitely return next time we are in the area and deire some good down home soul food!

Got take out at this place, and the food was freshly prepared and out in 20 min. After driving back home for about 20 min, the fried fish and chicken are still crispy! The fish is on the salty side, but the dry rub is so flavorful! Same are the chicken wings. The slight acidity in the seasoning perfectly balances out the heavy flavor of deep-fried food. The fried gizzards are pretty good! Super crispy and chewy on the inside. Ive not had gizzards cooked this way, but its super fun and tasty. The waffle is also very delicious. I personally like my waffle crispy. Although this waffle is very soft in the texture, the little sweet crumbs (with a cheese taste) on the surface make it pretty unique. I like this place a lot! Definitely will be back to try more stuff on the menu!

This was my first visit in over two years. I wanted my husband to try it. There was no wait and the place was full. On the way to our seat we noticed the floors were very slippery. After we were seated we watched other patrons try to avoid falling due to the floors. Our server was very forgetful. No drinks and no plastic ware to eat with. We watched her get comfortable after each request and could tell she just forgot. The pork chops and wings are worth the trip from Manor. Let s start off with how my collard greens were cold , like they had just got them out the refrigerator and then served them to me, the Mac and cheese was not speaking to my soul, It was giving box Mac and cheese with melted cheese on top and no seasoning. The sweet yams , off bat came from a can . Wasn t no love , or hard work put into those sweet yams. It was definitely giving Canned yams, the oxtails were good and flavorful, however they were too fatty, and I was chewing a little too long. And a little dry, the gravy was good but a bit too salty. And the cornbread tasted like yall left it out over night and slabbed a half a stick of butter on top. Definitely would rate this overall experience a 6.5. Now my review isn t to bring this restaurant down but to be honest with my overall experience here. Take care , and godbless .

Shay was a great server, the entire serving staff was very friendly, and accommodating. The chicken and fish were sooo good! The portions were larger and not pricey. The sides were ok, I had greens and mac def noticed the greens seemed canned and Mac and cheese was cold. Love the atmosphere though, I was seated immediately. Would return id just grab different sides.

Walking in I was a little put off. The floors were slippery, it was kind of hole in the wall but the waitress was super friendly and the food was delicious! We forgot to order the fried pickles to try so we are already planning to hit the spot up again! We had Buffalo wings, waffle fries, kids chicken nugget meals and Buffalo chicken sandwich. The waffle fries were hard but theres so many issues with catering and coworkers not covering things back up but they were hard. The catfish sadly wasnt crispy but it was definitely delicious and the Mac and cheese..AH so good. Honestly I had it yesterday but ide be overjoyed to go get it fresh TODAY. I recently had the pleasure of dining at this fantastic restaurant, and their chicken and waffles dish left me absolutely delighted. Beware!!! Dirty tables, Greasy floor, and not too bright employee. I had the most egregious experience at this restaurant this past weekend. I will never recommend it or return again. Zero accountability, no apology, and no call from management, which I requested. The shift leader did offer a credit that I declined, as I would rather starve. To the not so bright employee, Rae, where would we get grease from?? The grease was already on the floor when we got there. Use your brain, try to be smarter! EAT ANYWHERE BUT HERE!!
