Discrimination. First off I want to say that the doorman was nice and the bar is unique. I thought it would become one of my go to places in Austin because I liked the type of music it was playing. This was our first time going to this place but it will be our last. The bar was half empty, and I came in with a friend to listen to some live music because I heard one of my favorite songs while walking past the place. We went inside and walked to the front to get closer to the music. Not even 5 mins, and the bartender tells us 2 drinks minimum or get out. I am not a big drinker for health reasons, so I asked if he can make me a non-alcholic drink. He said no and told us to leave. I wouldnt have minded paying him $20 just to let us listen to some live music. Really bad first impression of this place. I will not be bringing any friends or recommending this place to anyone who is in my new to Austin friend groups.

BEST PIANO BAR ON 6th!!!!!! This place is amazing!!! The vibes are always soooo great and so fun. AND THE SERVICE , sweetest people that truly help! Also the bar was always quick and drinks were delicious (I recommend the strawberry punch). Owner was so sweet and helpful which was perfect for the huge group we were in. Great to go with one friend and even better if you go with a huge group. Love love love!

Beers can be somewhat expensive - expect to pay around $8-10 + tax + tip. The guy playing the piano is arrogant - I understand that youre playing for tips, but they kept ribbing on people who donated only $2. I think at one point they booed someone who requested a song and didnt tip (plus said something extremely crass about them). Not really my kinda place.

Went in for a drink with my sister and my wife. Bartender with grey beard refused us drinks without a solid reason and told us to that they would not serve us alcohol. They had no reason to do so as we just walked in and used the restroom without any issues. Bad service and bad atmosphere in general. Total vibe killer.

The TV doesn t work at all. I am going to watch the game in the bar but the TV seems lagging. The bartender is not responsive and doesn t know what I am referring to. I bought a beer but it charged me $20. They said they re going refund me after the business hour but I haven t received it 12 hours later. Not a fun place to watch TV and enjoy in there. Also, they have no food there.

The only reason Im giving this place a 2 is because the bartender we had did try to accommodate me because I requested a skinny margarita. They did not have agave, nor vanilla vodka, nor some others. He was nice though and made a pretty good version of a skinny marg. However, another older bartender was NOT NICE. He insisted I switch barstools bc mine had a back on it without explaining I was in the well area . Mind you there were 5 ppl in the bar at this time. The super nice bouncer explained it to me!! Im sure this review wont effect them as they are on 6th street.

Really fun time here! Had fun singing along to songs and watching people dance. The piano player and drummer were great and made it fun. The server was very attentive and made sure we had a great table. Its one of the few places on 6th that doesnt have someone out on the street trying to get you to come in, which we appreciated. A great time! Attentive staff and a wonderful manager/owner who oversaw everything. Great times.... Just wish the musician had started playing the faster/old rock and roll songs before 10 pm. People were requesting and giving $25/song, but he would just say theyre not ready yet. We finally had to leave .... As we flew out the next morning. Would definitely be back, but would know to go about 11 pm or after when the music started to be more driven by the rowdy song requests.

So the owner of Darwin s Piano Bar (who was tipped heavily on this good night) decided that if people should choose to dance in a piano bar, then they are crossing some sort of Imaginary line that was unacceptable, to only him. Seemingly he has a reputation that precedes him and the gentleman that he chose to kick out on this good night, was simply enjoying himself with his many friends, by simply dancing in a piano bar - full of music - shocking. So this would mean that the gentleman and his group of 13 fellow patrons ,people who were of no consequence to the Darwin ownership and after spending their hard earned money and experiencing the goodwill & generously alongside the fine citizens and tourists of Austin, would sadly witness the Putin-like Czar of Darwin. This person would take it upon himself to abruptly end this group s joyous evening in the Texas capitol. Ending sadly, in a venerated Austin establishment on an otherwise joyous evening. The Piano bar on this February night would ultimately & ironically end, on a sour note. Sadly for the great and entertaining city of Austin - this Bar is a place that is not indicative nor is it representative of the renowned hospitality of the people of Austin. Sadly the Darwin is proved to be less than welcoming and is not worth your patronage in its present iteration. Sixth St was tainted for this traveling band of unsuspecting revealers succumbing to Darwin s reverse evolution.

Great Music, mostly good time. Even after we were tipping very well, bartender was rude. We were there for a couple of hours and had a couple of rounds; getting ready for the third. I saw the boxes of beer against the wall, saw an open box, pulled a bud light and looked at the born on date, and slide it back. As I turned around, the bartender threw a pen at me. I thought he was joking around. He said something about stealing a beer. I was like, you saw me put it right back and you re really going to say I was stealing? I said, who would steal a bud light? I held out my hand to shake his. When he refused, I realized he was serious. Even after tipping over 30% all night, I can t believe he thought I was stealing beer even though he saw me slide it out and slide it back in. Ruined the night, so we left;. Very short sided, lost business, party of 5 . True Darwinism as I doubt we will come back. So many other bars to choose from.

So much fun! Musicians were great and got right to work. Minimal interaction with the crowd, just song after song. Drinks were good and service was fast. If youre a dude and you have to take the Browns to the Superbowl, be careful... no doors in the mens room. FYI, the alley was pretty private and a homeless guy had some Charmin for me. I heard good things about this bar but I could tell it was all hype no substance. The music was good but the customer service was totally garbage. I went with friends over the weekend to Austin and recommended this place. As soon as we got in we saw there was no seating. We made our way to the back to a small table and were chilling there hoping to find better seating. Not wanting to just take up space one person in our group bought some shots for the rest of us. All but one of us finished out shots, not even moments later some older white gentleman with a long beard came to us and told us that we need to order or we would be asked to leave despite just have had shots not even 5 minutes earlier. He had a very rude and rough tone and honestly made it super uncomfortable. Too add insult to injury the owner replied to one of my friends review on here calling her a liar and honestly it s surprising how unprofessional and unwelcoming they were to us. If you are a fellow traveler I would not recommend. EDIT: The reply of the owner shows not only how unprofessional and unwelcoming they are but complete lack of reading comprehension. Our friend ordered 5 shots for each of us. 4 of us took the shot immediately and one of us didn t because they like sipping on their shot. Our friend who paid for the 5 shots has proof of purchase so idk why the owner feels the need to lie and be rude. It s honestly sad to see that instead of apologizing for the piss poor service and juvenile responses the owner resorts to gaslighting their patrons. We would have ordered more but your rude bartender made it super uncomfortable and unwelcome. Do better!

As soon as me and my friends got there we ordered a round of shots and where standing at the back because there where 5 of us and it was packed, but we where jamming to the music and enjoying ourselves BUT a older gentleman came up to us and said y all need to order drinks if not you have to leave so I can have this space for people who are drinking I still had my shot in my hand *yes I sip shots sue me I like to take my time* but it really came off as rude and uninviting so my friends wanted to leave. We where not there for more than 3 minutes. Super disappointing. *sounds to me we both are telling the same story, we where paying customers that just entered the bar and you demanding us to have a drink in our hands .2 seconds after we just took shots is pushy and rude. We where a big party and if there was seating available we would have took it so it was a matter of time we would have found a seat. If you don t want to take responsibility for losing customers by being unwelcoming just say so. **And another thing, you stated on my friends review Miguel a group of five had one shot that s false so who s making things up now? We where ready to buy more drinks as we stayed longer but we JUST took shots not even minutes before you came by and this was our first stop, you can t deny you where being pushy. We had a tab open and everything. The bottom line it felt as tho you where being rude so that s it. There s no reason to be so hostile and accusatory. This just goes to show you are unprofessional and unwelcoming.

Its awesome! The bartender is very friendly, and the atmosphere is also nice! The live musician is very cool! This time , the player was Michael Carrandi, thats cool, I could spend the good time in this bar. I strongly recommend to visit here, when you visit to Austin! Thanks! (I corrected the name of player) This time is also awesome!

We stopped in on a Wednesday night and there were quite a few people there. The guy playing the piano was funny and a really good singer. He was singing alot of Billy Joel songs. Atmosphere is great and people were having a good time. Fun place.
