We recently had a great experience at Odd Duck. It s the must-go restaurant that embodies Austin - you can get a great meal that borders fine dining with a super relaxed atmosphere, you don t have to dress up and it s in no way pretentious. With the level of execution, you think they could be. It s a super chill environment with a nice open kitchen in the middle, wood fired grill, huge ceramic oven, and the buzz that a professional kitchen adds to a restaurants atmosphere. We sat at the chefs counter and got to observe and interact a bit. What we ordered: Pickled veggies - 10/10 served in a delicious chili oil (not pictured) Thai Pork belly apple salad- 10/10 (our favorite item of the night) Chicken gizzards - 8.5/10 delicious sauce with the right amount of spice Blackened redfish - 9.5/10 well seasoned and served over an interesting eggplant purée Chorizo tagliatelle - 7/10 pasta was wonderful, the sauce was fine but wouldn t reorder Wagyu Strip - 8/10 well cooked steak , potatoes were awesome. It s served with a green chili that was spicier than we expected that put my wife off a bit Tres leches dessert - 11/10 this was my favorite dessert this year, tres leches seems basic but it s elevated with their fig jam and the Oreo cookie bottom. Overall great meal and surprisingly not crazy pricing - all this plus 4 cocktails was about $250. Cocktails were really good too - Nice, Bryce was our favorite. We ll be back soon to try their burger!

Arguably one of the best meals I ve ever had in my life. This is from their September dinner service. Watermelon Fresca with tequila, aperol, tarragon, ginger, lime, and a salt foam was a good start to the evening. The ceviche was like a really nice, deconstructed pani puri.. the mint really set everything off; basically a perfect dish. Thai apple salad with pork belly was phenomenal. So much going on, in all the best possible ways. 10/10 no notes. Jerk Shrimp with banana pepper butter & chimichurri was unreal. Everything all together was a perfect balance of savory, succulent, crispy, sour, smoky, spicy. Please keep this one on the menu year round Tagliatelle was a nice option for red sauce pasta lovers. The chorizo, tomato, & peppers gave the sauce a nice homey, comforting, almost nostalgic feel to it. Wagyu strip with steak butter sauce, brown butter queso foam (what?!), green chili, and crispy potato tots was my favorite of the night. The steak was perfectly cooked and the richness of the meat/butter sauce was balanced out by the tangy, slightly spicy green chili. I could eat this for dinner every night. Their melon semifreddo dessert is the best dessert I ve ever had in my entire life. I m not even a melon fan tbh, it kinda makes me gag. But this ice cream was craaaazy delicious with its chili merengue and lime milk crumble. Mind blown. Can you PLEASE make this one a permanent staple on the dessert menu too??

Visiting Austin on business and Odd Duck was recommended to us. Went with a colleague and we really enjoyed the dinner. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Our waitress Jessica was wonderful and did a great job of helping us order. We had the cornbread, watermelon salad, spicy shrimp, and goat pizza. All of it was delicious and interesting, and very well presented. The apple crumble desert with house made tarragon ice cream was dope. Def recommend Odd Duck!

I took a date to Odd Duck for our first date last night and we were impressed all around! Jacob, our waiter, was incredibly knowledgeable and amazing all around. We sat at the Chefs Counter which I personally love and everything we had was incredible. We had a ceviche with purple potato chips, jerk shrimp with an incredible sauce, chorizo tagliatelle, and a chocolate cake dessert with ice cream. Id come back literally for any of those dishes alone or any variation on those dishes. Exceptional as always. Ive been plenty of times before and always look forward to going back! I highly recommend!

We went for my wife s birthday. They took great care of us here, providing champagne and a desert. Beyond the way they took care of us for the special occasion, the food was superb. I highly recommend being adventurous here. We had 5 different dishes and a few cocktails, and the best were the ones you know a chef would only put on there if they believe in it. I highly recommend this restaurant for an adventurous foodie or for a special occasion

I finally visited the restaurant everyone s been raving about, but my experience was a mixed bag. First, the bar area was uncomfortably cold, and I had to wait an incredibly long time for the food to arrive. To be fair, it was close to closing time, so I give them the benefit of the doubt. When the food finally came out, I was disappointed with the quail stuffed with rice. It was extremely salty, reminiscent of an overly salty version of a Texas turkey leg you d find at fairs. The sauce, which I couldn t quite identify, was also overwhelmingly salty, making the dish barely edible. The rice inside had a sour note, which did help a little to offset the salt, but it wasn t enough to save the dish. On the bright side, the cornbread was a standout. It had an amazing Asian spin to the sauce, and the jalapeños inside added a delicious kick. The real star of the meal, however, was the German sheet cake with pecans and ice cream at the end. It was absolutely delicious, and you could pair any of the three components together or enjoy them separately each combination was like a match made in heaven, becoming more delicious with every bite. The place itself is beautiful with quaint and elegant decor. The soft lighting creates a warm, inviting atmosphere, and the friendly staff added to the charm. I especially loved the elevated patio outside with the nice ambient lighting. The setting and service makes it a place worth visiting at least once.

What an incredible culinary experience from start to finish! Valet parking, good vibes, extended indoor/outdoor balcony seating (depending on the weather) and flavors that your mouth didn t know existed. Must try; Watermelon chalupa, stuffed quail, cornbread, red snapper, wagyu burger. A party of 4 should order 8 items to share. Our server Missy was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and didn t miss a beat! Thirst quenching cocktail options are customized with unique twists to complement the restaurant s theme of being an odd duck. If you ever find yourself in South Lamar, maybe you ll get lucky enough to try it out for yourself!

We re lining up as yet more fans of Odd Duck! My family and I had a great time trying such innovative farm-to-table dishes. And yet, our favorite dish was a southern classic the cheddar cornbread. I mean, look at how the eggplant butter spread! They got the fluffiest cornbread I have ever had. Probably would ve ordered more had we not had so much more to try. We all really enjoyed the watermelon chalupa it s sweet, lightly spicy, and paired so well with the crunch. My next favorite was the tagliatelle, and my brother s was the redfish. We got more dishes and loved them all! Service was fantastic our server immediately asked for allergies and checked in with the kitchen to confirm ingredients. He even marked some of his recommendations on the menu, and gave us guidance when we couldn t decide. And I was very indecisive about what drink to get It s such a positive sign to me when the servers are passionate about the food too, and he certainly was. We chatted about his experience trying the watermelon chalupa for the first time! Also, I adore the homey farmhouse aesthetic of the restaurant. The outside of the restaurant is covered in vines. We couldn t help but take photos with the sign! And inside, the entrance is lined with graduation cards, letters, photos, and a silly skeleton. It s thrown together in a way that feels comforting. Overall, a great restaurant experience!

Portions are more tapa style (would recommend doing 3-4 dishes for 2 people).

I always heard good things about this restaurant so I was excited when my friend whose visiting out of state told me he made a reservation at Odd Duck for dinner. Food portion was small but it tasted good. Drinks were okay. Watermelon Fresca was salty to the point it felt like a watermelon juice with salt in it. The worst part was the SERVICE. Every staff at the restaurant was great EXCEPT our waiter. He was very rude starting from beginning. He was explaining about the food and he had a long pause so I thought he stopped talking. That s when I asked him if I could order a drink and he told me I m not done yet with the most rude voice ever. After that when we tried ordering our food I didn t know how to read the pasta name so I asked him how do I read this and he said PASTA would be fine . He was exceptionally rude to me ONLY to the point I felt like it s because I was a minority race. Due to this, I won t be going back. I don t think I should feel this way after spending my money on mediocre drinks and trash customer service.

Worth the price, especially compared to a lot of other Austin restaurants at similar price points. The restaurant feels pretty casual but classy, which I enjoy. The staff wear outfits in their own style, which I find very inviting. Our cocktails and each of the 4 dishes we ordered (pictured) were delicious. My favorite was the summer squash salad, which was very unique and one of the best salads I ve ever had. We got 3 cocktails and 4 dishes, had a small amount of leftovers to take home, left a 25% tip, and paid $165 total. For good Austin dining, I honestly expected to pay more! If I had to be critical, there was one employee who greeted us after we sat at our table who was pretty weird. He talked awkwardly for way too long for basically no reason- he wasn t our server and didn t actually provide any useful information about the menu. Other than that, the service was great.

I ve been to The Odd Duck a few times for drinks only, tonight my husband and I stopped in for a couple bites and a drink. Upon arrival we were greeted and sat immediately, we ordered drinks and grilled chicken heart skewers (those were fantastic flavorful and tender) I went with what was described as the Thai melon salad with crispy pork belly, the pork belly was disgusting imagine eating something already fatty and further drenched in a beer batter only to taste like oil. When we shared feedback to the waitress her immediate response was to comp it, that was not my point i simply just wanted to address I didn t like my dish and the why. The waitress didn t attend me further more instead she sent someone else to finish her job. The way my constructive criticism was handled was poorly, I d love to push my work off to others when pushed into uncomfortable situations.

For me the vibe is way to old, it feels like I am at Dennys but paying 5times more. The food, beside the blacken fish everything else was just mediocre. I am a great cook so my expectations are high if I want to pay $100 a person the food better be more enticing than mine. I will not recommend or go back to O.D! We visited Odd Duck for dinner during our visit to Austin. We made a reservation a week in advance to ensure we got a good time. Highly recommend this if youd like to dine here on a Friday or Saturday. The restaurant offers complimentary valet parking which is very convenient. I began by ordering a frozen margarita which was delicious. For the food; I started with the cast iron cheddar cornbread with spring onion butter. This had great texture and flavor, it was so soft on the inside. I was torn between the aged wagyu burger and stuffed quail for my entree. I ultimately decided on the quail and Im glad I did. It was fantastic, and the hot sauce jus at the bottom of the plate was delicious to dip the meat/rice in. I finished off the meal with another frozen margarita and the carrot cake churros. These were good, but nothing too amazing. The sweet cheese queso was the best part of the dish. Overall a great meal that was worth the price due to the quality of the food you receive. You can tell all the ingredients are fresh and the dishes come well prepared. Highly recommend if youre in the Austin area.

Odd Duck is easily one of my favorite restaurants in Austin - not only for their food, but also for their service. But what drove me to write this review is because of a particular dinner we had on Mother s Day. We originally booked bar seating because that was what was available on the app at the time, but upon checking in, the hostess noticed I was pregnant and suggested we take a table instead as long as we could finish our dinner by a certain time (~2 hours, very reasonable). At the time, I was in my third trimester and very much appreciated the offer because the bar seating didn t have a back. When we were seated, the our waiter asked about dietary restrictions and I mentioned I was pregnant and couldn t consume alcohol and a few other food items. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the menus items and assured me that everything was pasteurized or cooked to temperature, but would triple confirm with the kitchen if we ordered anything that needed additional information. I felt really safe and appreciated this level of attention to detail. Per usual - everything was delicious and came out in a timely manner with every server explaining dishes in detail and with such kindness. I always loved dining at Odd Duck, but this level of service just made me love them even more. I also inhaled the amazing cornbread so fast that I didn t get a picture because it was THAT good, but the other dishes were also delicious too.

Fantastic open kitchen, friendly and helpful staff, kitchen is on point and so fun to watch, great cocktails, and after eating there 2 nights in a row I can say everything in the menu is AMAZING. My favorites were the pickled beet chalupa, cornbread, ceviche, wagyu burger, and carrot cake churros. If I had to pick 1 thing it would be the ceviche. Even the valet attendant was running doing her best to keep guests happy. Such a great experience!

This was one of my favorite Austin dining experiences! We actually set at the bar with our in laws and were taken care of so well! The inside decor, lighting, and music made set a great dining tone. The tapa style plates were all very flavorful and perfect for sharing. I got the Wagyu steak and it was the BEST steak I ever had. Dietary restrictions: They also had an entire gluten free menu! Which also had a gluten free dessert on it

This place happened to be just down the street from the hotel where we were staying, but it would have been worth driving across town for. Loved the combination of casual vibe and beautifully executed cuisine. In particular, the cornbread and quail were a winning combination. And our server was great: friendly and helpful in answering our questions about menu items.

My friend and I stumbled upon a culinary delight during our weekend getaway in Austin: Odd Duck. From start to finish, the experience was exceptional. Sharing plates is the way to go, and we began with the grilled chicken heart skewers, which were simply divine; the tender meat melted in our mouths. The beet chalupa was a delightful surprise, with the beet and salsa blending in unexpectedly delicious harmony. The stuffed quail was equally impressive, with flavorful stuffing and perfectly seasoned meat. Our culinary journey culminated with the impeccably cooked Wagyu strip, accompanied by delightful parsley fritters. Overall, Odd Duck delivered an unforgettable dining experience with fresh, high-quality ingredients and flavors that delighted the palate. I highly recommend it to anyone seeking a taste of local and innovative cuisine.

Ooooo this place is so perfect for a date or just a nice food adventure. I got a reservation for the chefs counter, which I didnt regret. You see the action and get to smell (and practically taste) all the dishes you didnt have a fourth stomach for. Everyone seems to talk about the cornbread, which I got and it was definitely a supreme experience. But the pork belly slaw was transcendent. I cannot stress enough how good it was. Perfectly crisp, with crunchy textures from the veg, minty flavors, sour, oniony umami... I cant find a fault in it. The crawfish alfredo was good, but Alfredo isnt normally my go to (I got this just to try it and report back to my partner, who wasnt here). One thing I regret though: I thought my server introduced themselves as Grit which I immediately thought was the coolest name I had ever heard and proceeded to call them Grit all night. It was Brit. I found out on the receipt at the end of the night my server was Brittney.

My recent visit to Odd Duck left me with mixed feelings. While the ambiance was pleasant, the food failed to impress on all marks. The menu boasted unique flavor combinations, but the food was off in flavor. Additionally, the prices seemed stupidly overpriced for the overall dining experience. If youre a fan of bold spice, you might enjoy it more than my party, but for those seeking a more balanced palate, it might not be the best choice. We had the crawfish ravioli (spicy somehow), cornbread (was great), beet tostadas (tostada was stale but the beets on top were great), wagyu (steak gravy or whatever sauce had a weird flavor), ceviche (pretty great), and the chicken hearts (decent). Such a shame. The service was good though.

Hands down my fav restaurant in austin. I go almost every month because they change up their menu- some ingredients in their staple dishes and they completely swap out some dishes as well. Their ceviche is probably the best i ve had in austin- I always get 2 orders. the cornbread is amazing and honestly all the appetizers are great. Try their house made cherry cola as well! ive tried all of their desserts and none have disappointed me so far. Service is great as well.

The three of us had an amazing experience here! Several of the dishes we tried were phenomenal. The kohlrabi slaw had the perfect flavor profile, with the fatty beer-battered pork belly contrasting with the pickled veggies, peanuts, and basil. Its one of the best dishes Ive had this year! The cornbread and kale butter (which provides a slight heat) was delicious. The crawfish cajun alfredo was creamy and buttery and rich. I would never have thought of goat pizza with oaxaca cheese, but odd duck pulled it off with aplomb. Finally, the bourbon budino with honeycomb and gelee was the perfect end to our dining experience. Service was great, and sitting outside in the enclosed deck provided natural light and the benefits of A/C. Definitely visit this place sometime! Be aware that this is on the pricier side; the dishes are smaller and made to share, so we ordered 7 dishes to share among 3 guys. It came out to about $70 a person after tax and tip Parking: The small parking lot out front is valet-only, but there are street parking options just around the north corner of the restaurant

I ve been based in Austin for over a decade now and I finally visited Odd Duck: it was a mistake to wait this long. The menu is vast and can meet any palate where they are. Each item was expertly balanced, something you expect with the gourmet experience (and they delivered). The redfish was next level. Don t make the same mistake I did and wait 10 years.

Bartended forgot to ring in our food and when we noticed the kitchen closing we asked where our food was as it was a half hour late. The kitchen staff was clearly annoyed that some had to reopen their stations and our food tasted like it. The bartender avoided us and a manager finally came over when we were finished. We ate all of our food because we were hungry. We waited to eat that day because we wanted to have a large meal here and share plates. The manager offered us dessert in an awkward way like we were seeking free food. We explained what happened and he just kind of shrugged. I reached out twice after this happened and no response. The fact that they can t respond to emails coupled with the article about calling this a touristy restaurant locals must try just says they rely on the turn and burn.

We sat at the bar and had a lovely experience. Bartender who waited on us was attentive and nice to chat with. Even the valet had great recommendations about what to order. The vegetarian options are extensive and delicious. Loved the cornbread. They surprised us with two desserts, which was excessive, but they were both so good we couldnt help but finish them. Cant wait to come back again.

This place is exceptional. Terrific food, drinks, staff, and vibe. Very knowledgeable and accommodating of dietary restrictions. Upscale feeling but it s not pretentious. A reservation in advance is the only option. A couple of times I tried to go during off times without a reservation, thinking a couple of seats might be available at the bar. The restaurant was always packed and had so many reservations lined up that there wasn t the option to wait for seats to be available. Dietary restrictions: Many gluten-free foods. Very knowledgeable and helpful staff, and the kitchen is willing to make modifications when possible. Parking: The restaurant offers complimentary valet parking. It s the only option - only the valet can park cars in the small and awkwardly laid out parking lot.

Quite possibly the greatest hamburger Ive ever eaten. We went to celebrate our anniversary and had a great experience. Our favorites were the goat ragu pasta (great meaty mouth-feel and textures), grilled broccoli (deviled egg sauce and pepita seasoning make it so layered flavorwise), raspberry sorbet (amazing raspberry flavor pop!). The cornbread is always perfect. We got the wagyu strip and werent super impressed compared to everything else. The steak itself wasnt seasoned much so you had to coat it in the sauce (which was delicious). I normally just like a steak seasoned well without a sauce - so you just have to let go of that expectation. It was incredibly tender. Just not the right choice for me, but glad I tried it. Draft Palomas were strong and delicious, salt foam is addictive. Glad we ubered to and from. Servers and food runners are all great!

Did the 9 course tasting menu with a group & was extremely impressed. We come from Portland where the restaurant scene is fantastic & this totally lived up to our high standards - all 9 courses were pretty equally great, no low spots or disappointments, everything memorable & delicious. Not quite as high of highs as some places, nothing Id say was quite the best thing Ive ever had (of that type), but still a really wonderful meal we wont forget. I have it ranked #9 on my restaurants list with a 20/20 score, 9/10 on flavor & 11/10 on variety. Must-orders imo are the steak with kohlrabi, redfish with sourdough sauce, quail, beet salad, grilled broccoli, ceviche.. doesnt seem like you can go wrong though

This is my new favorite restaurant in Austin. Heard about it for years, and we finally got to try it. Its one of those places where every bite of food makes you smile because its so surprisingly good. Trust me on this, just go and give it a try! We did the bar seating where we could watch the kitchen work, which is more fun than it sounds. The guy doing the food prep came over and chatted with us for a couple minutes and told us how much he loves it there. It shows on the faces of all the staff: I believe theyre very proud of what they do, and they should be. Do yourself a favor: Go eat at Odd Duck!

Customer service is horrible. I called, emailed and texted about getting a reservation. I understand that calling a week in advance for a reservation may not always work. A simple yes or no answer would have stopped us from chasing them to answer the phone. Every time we spoke to someone, they said the person that was in charge of that was not in the restaurant never got a call back. What would ve of been a nice dinner to celebrate an anniversary, just turned into a headache. If the customer service is this bad already, I can t imagine actually eating at the restaurant. Sadly it was a place we were excited to try.

We were lucky enough to snag a reservation here and put their farm fresh food to the test. We ordered an array of dishes consisting of The wagyu strip, goat pasta, grilled broccoli, wagyu burger and the chicken heart skewers. The skewers had a great smoky flavor to them, and it was a nice way to have gotten introduced to chicken hearts as a first timer. However, I wasnt huge on the texture of the meat. But if you are familiar with this type of meat, then I have no doubt youll love it! The grilled broccoli was recommended by our valet, and it didnt disappoint. Another smoky flavor and had a acidic kick as well. Vegetables done right! The pappardelle goat pasta was very delicious. Some nitpicks would be the addition of olives, they did have a minor presence, but I would personally leave them out. I would have also preferred more goat. The pasta was al dente and the overall dish was a thumbs up. The wagyu burger had quite the library of components to it but they all complimented each other. It is also very messy, so I would highly recommend eating at the restaurant, instead of to-go. Lastly, we had the wagyu strip. I am not sure what grade the wagyu steak was, as there is no indication on the menu. Though I believe most steak enthusiasts would be able to assume that this is not Japanese, nor A3,A4 or A5 grade. Possibly not even A2. The steak was still a tasty medium rare and the potato fritters that accompanied were possibly more impressive than the steak. Crispy on the outside and silky smooth on the interior. Everything laid on a bed of their gravy. Overall great dish. We are happy to have finally dined here as it has been on the radar for quite some time. Good ole whole food made with their own twist, with love. 4.5/5 Parking: Complimentary valet paired with reservation.
