Be prepared for an extraordinary hike! This 1,000-acre urban oasis has over 12 miles of rugged terrain, mountain-biking & hiking trails, and creeks with swimming holes (although one of the two waterfalls has dried up because of lack of rain). Once you get to the second one, youre gonna want to take off your clothes and take a dip in the pool if you dont mind the algae and water-borne organisms. Barton Creek Greenbelt also features amazing rock formations made of limestone for rock-climbing and bouldering. Although this is a family-friendly adventure, its not for the faint of heart. Young kids will get tired, adults will be challenged, and the rest will be craving some happy hour afterwards.

I genuinely have not been down there in decades so I cannot give an accurate description of what it looks like. From the few articles Ive read, the homeless have trashed our areas along a few trails. Since I have not been to any trails in some time, my reviews would be inaccurate.

It is a wilderness, no bathrooms or facilities in the area near Travis County. There are designated public entrances online.

Snakes are there though its just water snakes beware of it. And its good trekking place I feel its better than turkey creek. But its not very good to enjoy with ur buddies and water is there so if you are bringing your dogs it will enjoy a lot.

Very nice, quiet getaway. A bit difficult to figure out the best point to enter as Google just takes you to the middle of a neighborhood....but if you can find your way in its beautiful and quiet and if you can navigate the unmarked trails to the creek you can find sculpture falls as well.

Great green space in the city. Can hear the freeway from pretty much the whole trail, except when its drowned out by the falls. Trail is easy to walk (Im in poor shape and was able to get to Sculpture Falls in flip flops). Lots of rocky parts to watch your footing, and exposed roots to avoid stepping on for the sake of the roots. Great to get into nature workout driving an hour out of town

It s a good place for hiking and escape from the city. At few places water had dried up. But you need to go all the way to the end to find a natural pool which is very beautiful.

Has been updated by Parks & Rec. Less prople on weekends and holidays. Has quite alot of area to play in. It now has some additional parking. As for the individual, small family or party....it is a good place to just have fun! Try it you will enjoy your day!

My wife and I came here to do a day hike and we were not disappointed. Visiting from out of state, Barton Creek was an incredible green belt reservation. We completed a 3 hour loop but stopped around halfway from the total length of the hike. We visited in December and the river was dried up, which allowed us to walk right in the middle of it. We also saw a dozen or more groups of people rock climbing across the various parts of the park. The park itself seemed dog-friendly and there were lots of opportunity to bike across the terrain. I also highly recommend stopping by Tacodeli across from the entrance of Barton Creek Park to enjoy some awesome tacos. I highly recommend the shrimp taco!

Beautiful hike with the kids, we explored a cave and played on the river bottom searching for fossils and arrowheads, we finally found signs of native american homesites on a plateau. We saw almost no wildlife other than a pod of bass minnow in a natural spring. Special note: the West side of the greenbelt is for expert hikers its very rough terrain steep hills sheer cliffs, the east side of the greenbelt is for casual day hikers smooth paths and creek beds.

Its all dried up during the summer! I attached a photo with the only place thats good for swimming. There was too little water for any waterfalls. We spent about 5 hours searching for more spots but only found dead fish at Twin falls. Make sure to bring plenty of water - especially if youre adventurous and like to wander far away from the trail! Its easy to wander around because its so interesting what you find!

Beautiful place to go and hang out with friends. Especially on a hot Austin day. You can take food and drinks with you. Wear comfortable shoes that up may not mind if they get wet. Lots of trees for shade. Rocks for sitting or you can take chairs and or towels and blankets.

One of the best places in Austin. There are so many trails you can hike or run and can take the dog. It also feels like youre in the wilderness and youre right in the city. The creek has clear water with a few spots to swim and even a couple rope swings when the creek has water. There are times of year when the creek is dry is certain spots. Its great to go after a rain to ensure theres water. Theres also some good views from the different trails and several caves. Overall a great place.

The Barton Creek Greenbelt located in Austin, Texas is managed by the City of Austins Park and Recreation Department. The Greenbelt is a 7.25-mile (11.67 km) stretch of public land that begins at Zilker Park and stretches South/Southwest to the final section commonly referred to as The Hill of Life which ends in the Woods of Westlake subdivision. The Barton Creek Greenbelt consists of three areas: the Lower Greenbelt, the Upper Greenbelt and the Barton Creek Wilderness Park and is characterized by large limestone cliffs, dense foliage, and shallow bodies of water.
