The best dining experience of my life, without a doubt. I want to give a special mention to Anna, she looked after us and made the experience all the more special. We opted for the 10 course omikaze set menu, this meant it was specially selected by Anna. She asked us a set of questions to identify which of the dishes would suit our taste palettes best and factored in all our dietary requirements including allergens. She procured our menu to give us the perfect balance of wholesome dishes to the more rare unique dishes on offer. The flavour combinations were incomprehensibly memorable, and the service was the best anyone could ask for. Thank you so much for the experience and the memory, truly one I would recommend to anyone with the highest level of conviction. And thank you again to Anna for making it all the more personalised. A special experience.

My boyfriend and I went in for our 3rd anniversary and we had a great time! Neither of us are too familiar with Japanese cuisine so we put a lot of trust in our server, Lulu, who was very helpful. I have celiac disease which can make eating out difficult, but much of the menu was gluten free without a need for modifications so that was a huge plus for me. Everything was delicious, the vibe was both energetic and romantic, 10/10 would go again. Dietary restrictions: Celiac Disease

I had a lovely birthday at Uchiko with my family. We got both the vegetarian and regular omakase. We enjoyed all of our dishes. The pacing could have been a bit slower as we got overwhelmed in the beginning with a lot of dishes. Our waiter Jeremy really made the experience special with gifting us two extra desserts and the Uchi cookbook! Shoutout Jeremy for making it an extra special night!

Uchiko in Austin offers a fantastic dining experience with its creative take on Japanese cuisine. The atmosphere is sleek yet welcoming, perfect for a special night out. Their sushi and small plates are fresh, inventive, and beautifully presented, with a variety of flavors that will impress any food lover. The chefs tasting menu is a great way to explore their top dishes. The staff is knowledgeable and provides excellent recommendations, making the meal even more enjoyable. While it s on the pricier side, Uchiko is well worth it for a memorable, high-quality dining experience.

We recently dined at Uchiko North Lamar sushi spot in Austin, hoping for a memorable experience, but left feeling underwhelmed. The restaurant tries hard to market itself as a high-end Japanese Omakase experience, but unfortunately, it doesnt quite deliver. Some dishes lacked the freshness and refinement youd expect from an upscale sushi restaurant, and a few didnt even match the quality of what youd find at H.E.B. The flavors were often bland, and the textures werent as precise as youd hope for in a place trying to charge premium prices. The service was average at best, lacking the attentiveness and warmth youd expect. Its frustrating when a place demands so much for a course meal, yet fails to live up to even mid-tier expectations. All in all, youre better off seeking out Omakase experience or even simple sushi elsewhere in Austin.

Sadly this was a huge disappointment. My partner and I came here years ago for our second anniversary and had a magical night! Confirming before reservation that this was an anniversary dinner, the waitstaff ensured we had a great experience. We were sat somewhere lovely with service being perfect even in a busy evening as we booked 4-6, typical dinner rush hours. Given a nigiri on the house that paired with one our selections and additional dessert with writing on the plate. Food had amazing taste and presentation (the jasmine cream having a smoke reveal when presented). So OBVIOUSLY we had to come 5 years later when celebrating out anniversary AND our engagement just a day prior (My fiancée ensured to click both options in reservations). However, when we came we were informed 1) The bathrooms are now located outside in a small trailer which stunk and had period blood on the walls and door and 2) we were seated against the wall in the corne by the waitstaff computer. For our engagement dinner, being put into a shabby corner rather than letting us have the option to wait for a better spot. It felt humiliating that we were an openly queer couple (only queer couple in the 2hrs we were there) and be put in a dim corner. Our waitress was clearly not informed this evening was special by any means, meaning no communication from reservation information to staff as a failure on part of the management. She was lovely just disappointing that the evening was overcast by unfinished construction and the downgrade in presentation and preparation when compared to the near exact same meal we ordered (ie. jasmine cream having no special plating like before and other items)

Had an excellent anniversary lunch during HH. The only hiccup which I found odd (and the reason for the docked stars) is that I unfortunately had a dead fly floating in the small wooden box that my Nigori unfilter sake came in. I already had a few sips before noticing, so hopefully this insect had only touched the overflow sake and not the drink, but I d like to not think too much on the alternatives. I pointed this out to our sushi chef who was extremely apologetic and promised it would be taken care of. The drink was replaced and the rest of the meal was excellent (including the complimentary dish for our anniversary, yum). When the check came, I was surprised to see I was still charged for the sake, given the situation and the chef s words, but as the rest of lunch and the service was good, I paid without comment since I didn t want to mar the occasion. Things happen in restaurants, even the best, so I m understanding but felt like I should mention at the least.

My partner and I came last night (Tuesday evening) for the $120 happy hour Signature Tastings menu for two. Every single thing we had was incredible and was eye-opening to what fresh fish, quality ingredients, and culinary artistry really can be. We were quietly celebrating a birthday, and the staff were fully aware and even served an extra surprise sushi course with fish traditionally used for celebrations in Japan. It was arguably the best course we had. We (particularly myself) were left laughing in disbelief and joy multiple times of how delicious the food was and the level of hospitality. Our sushi chef was Chef Ji. Sincerest apologies if the spelling is not correct. He was fantastic, so thoughtful, and incredible to watch as he prepared so many amazing pieces in front of us. Our drinks server was Tammy, and she was so knowledgeable, sweet, and attentive. The service and hospitality is so outstanding and beautiful to behold. Really makes you fall in love with the restaurant. This is the closest thing I ve ever had to a fine dining experience and now I get it. I wish I could dine here every night. I had the Omakase for about $180 per person. Some of the food items served such as the otoro sashimi, scallops, tomato (surprising) sushi, and dessert to be excellent. However, there were some items that did not live up to expectations. For example, the wagyu nigiri was too salty despite being a quality cut and some other nigiri pieces were not dressed up enough to conpliment the fish. Additionally, one of the servers did not know what was being served to us and was abruptly corrected by another server. This was a bit jarring, but not too big of a deal. Overall, the experience was solid, but I will likely choose other omakase experiences moving forward.

I dont think this is a restaurant, its a house thief that just a bunch of confused idiots go and give good compliments.Because my son liked sushi, we went to Austin from San Antonio, because of the comments written on the page, first of all, it didnt have a good menu, that is, they give you some copied paper, which you have to have someone explain to you in order to understand it.Secondly, that person gives such a description of the food that you think that you are going to try a unique dish. In the end, after waiting for a long time, someone brings us six pieces of sushi, about an inch in size, and thats it. Madam, the steak is worth 36 dollars. He had ordered, and the meat was brought burnt to the size of 1 x 3 inches. In the end, they charged us $116, and since it was past 10:30 p.m., no other restaurant was open, and after embarrassing myself in front of my family, we had to go to fast food for dinner and until we returned to San Antonio, It was around 2 midnight. When I think about the people who go there and pretend to be satisfied, I only infer one thing: that some people go there to attract the attention of others (friends or partners, etc.) do, because no sane person can accept to pay a high price for a few pieces of snack and pretend to have eaten. However, it was a bad experience for me. Because I felt that my intelligence was insulted to drive all this way, spend time and money, and in the end I have to go to fast food... I think its evil. The name of this is neither a restaurant nor a business, its just called theft. ,, When I said that this is not a restaurant, but a thiefs house, I didnt mean it. After the review I left for that thiefs house, the owner of the place sent me a message saying that he wants to solve this problem, please send me an email directly. And I gave him this email: How are you going to fix it, are you going to give me my money back, or are you going to offer a free service that Im not ready to come there anymore, or maybe you want to apologize with a few sentences? And as a result, I didnt receive any message after that, because she just wanted to show in response to my critical email that she is not aware of the situation there, while the founder of that house thief is herself.

The Sashimi was good, but the rolls were average. Komé has better rolls. The sauces lacked depth and punchiness. We ordered two more identical orders of a tuna that we liked, and got two entirely different dishes. The two sakes we tried were lackluster, one of which was $22 a glass. There are so many incredible places to eat at in Austin, but if I had to choose only one restaurant to dine at, it would have to be Uchiko. I ve been fortunate enough to eat their give or take around 50 times and here is why it is the best. The menu can be overwhelming especially if you re not too familiar with specific fish types or various nigiri bites the staff will help guide you along and give their extensive knowledge making sure you have an incredible dinner. The restaurant doesn t offer typical sushi style rolls like other Japanese restaurants, but food that has more of a culinary experience. Each dish is well thought out and gives you multiple flavors/textures bringing out a well rounded bite. Uchiko offers great non-fish options that I would highly recommend you try. A good dish for the budget-to-filling up side, would be ordering karage. If you re like me and love good sushi rolls, but would rather taste the fish instead of tasting seaweed forward, ask to wrap the saki maki roll or p-38 in soy paper. It s a game changer. Another great hack is ordering a side of white chili aoli to dip your rolls or your karage in which also tastes amazing. Everything is delicious, but my personal favorites include the gyutaro, kinoko, duck, ko salad, madai, steak + fries, tiger cry, p-38, Brussels sprouts, hamachi, bincho, shima aji, blue fin tuna, and masu.

Ive been going to Uchiko since it opened, and the food is as good as it ever was: inventive, incredibly fresh, and a great mixture of traditional and unique. Overall our servers were great and helpful. My one quibble is the absolutely wild speed at which they served us. Ive never been rushed out of a place so fast where I was spending nearly $250 for a table of two. We ordered 5 or 6 dishes and were out the door with our tab paid in 45 minutes. At one point, we had three dishes on our table at once. That is not what I hope for when the dishes are literally two or three bites max. I could barely keep up, but I didnt want to. I wanted to have an enjoyable evening with my partner. Things are so unbelievably pricey in Austin now, weve really cut back on going out to eat. Things like this really make or break a nice meal out for me. Im already supposed to go back this month for a friends birthday (the location is her choice), and I really hope the pacing is better and we arent rushed out of there at top speed.

I went there, not that long ago to pick up food. Because I have disabled veteran plates and placard, I parked in the disabled spot by the door. I was already out and on my way in. The valet staff told me I had to move my car because that spot was for valet only. I pointed out that it did have the handicap Sign on the ground. He told me, it is not a handicap spot but a valet spot. Instructed me to park at a different spot that was nowhere close to the front door. So if this valet staff is accurate, there are no Disabled spots that are close to the entrance of this restaurant. After I parked and went inside, I asked the other staff about this. They told me that there are spots right outside the door. I let them know what happened and was met with, well I don t know then. They need to do better.

Not our first time here. The first time we came, we had a great experience, so we came back for a special occasion and were not disappointed in the least. Reservations are tough to get, so plan at least a month out. We arrived a bit early and wanted to sit at the bar for some drinks. Even the bar was full and or reserved, which was fine, so we stood with our wine. The bartender, who looks a bit like Freddy Mercury was great. He was handling the entire bar for non-dining at the moment orders. Twice, once he saw we required his help, he came by promptly and was totally focused on what I was saying despite other distractions. When our table was ready (about 2 minutes before our scheduled time) we were taken care of by Jerimiah. he may appear young and casual, but his service, mannerisms and interactions were nothing less than stellar. Because it was a special occasion, we both ordered the tasting menu which is about 10 mini courses. To say it was amazing would be an understatement. When we placed the order, we let them know of a food allergy situation. He asked a few questions to clarify. When each course was presented, either Jerimiah or another server stated that that course was free from any of the allergens we mentioned. There were zero issues experienced due to food sensitivities. The food was better than excellent, being extremely fresh and imaginative. We are already planning our next visit.

Best meal of my life. Thank you for such an amazing evening, Sharon, Ally and the rest of the team. Sharons sake selection was completely on point for us and her additional nigiri selection was a true highlight. The absolute masters in the kitchen have redefined balance and composition. Even the simplicity of the oysters were elevated beyond all expectation by the tiniest artistic addition by someone with true passion for food. This culinary castle goes above and beyond in accommodating their guests, especially around dietary restrictions. I will be chasing this meal for the rest of time in my life and dreams. Vegetarian options: They accommodate any lifestyle or restriction. Trust me, go for the omakase and let them know your needs. You will be delighted and impressed. TL;DR Stellar service (ask for our waiter! Name below), punches at its price point, have to get lucky on seating and Austins pest problem. We had a reservation at 4 and were seated within 5 minutes. Initially, we found it strange that some walk-ins were seated before us, but there was no big wait and so no worries. There are two bars for about 25 total bar seating spots, and many tables. Allergies: Uchikos stellar service is reflected in their attention to dietary restrictions. I had zero problems here and my waiter confirmed every time. Service: Make a reservation, ask for Nate Crockett. He was amazing and really made our special meal even more special with a celebratory course. We did the Happy Hour Omakase. At this time, I may actually recommend discussing with your waiter what the somakase looks like, since they can customize around your taste and budget. The omakase is only half fish dishes: Course #1: Avocado Roll (2pc each) with yuzu and tamari salt. Nothing too special (3/5). Course #2: Ko Salad (Baby Romaine with daikon, topped with miso rice and with a jalapeno edamame sauce), they took off the Thai pesto for nuts. I loved how they wrapped this to all stay together. (4.5/5) Course #3: Scottish Salmon hand roll with their own Crying Tiger (nuoc mam) fish sauce. This could be better wrapped to stay together, but was tasty (4/5). Course #4: Hama chili - Yellowtail in Ponzu sauce with Thai chili and oranges. I thought the Ponzu and citrus were overpowering here, but it was good. (3.5/5) Course #5: Bluefin Otoro Gunkan Fatty Tuna Belly. One piece each. Star of the show. (5/5) Course #6: A5 fat washed fries with Denver dry aged sirloin steak, seared 4 times, with bok choy: Mixed opinions here. Fries were okay. Searing the meat doesnt hide it from being a sirloin - not the most tender, though a very interesting texture. Some of our pieces were drier than others. The bok choy was a unique spin with the char. (Me 4/5, partner 2/5) Course #7: Milk and Cereal (Fried milk, chocolate mousse, ice cream, cereal): Awesome palette cleanser. (4.5/5) A la carte / off-Omakase: Crispy potatoes: Delicious aioli and the shallots really tie it together. Wish the portions were larger. (4/5) Sea bream madai: Little chewy. Lovely lemon zest to hide it though. (4.5/5) Bluefin tuna zuke: Deliciously marinated while retaining the tuna texture. (4.5/5) Gyudon with short rib and egg (sous vide for three days): We liked this more than the seared meat. The short rib really melts in your mouth. Great small bite. (5/5) Bluefin Otoro sashimi with wasabi: 5/5 no comments needed, stellar. Jasmine Cream: The granola mixed with cream and pineapple just somehow worked. Not too sweet. Great end of the meal. If you prefer less sweet desserts Id get this over the milk and cereal. (4.5/5) Criticism: We got seated by a window and seemed to be the center of attention for a number of blowflies. Really annoying for a nice meal. Its hard to avoid in Austin, but I hope they do something about it. Overall, amazing experience led by Nate C. and the staff that are very knowledgeable about each course. Overall: Service: 6/5 Value: 4.5/5 Food: 4/5

We had the most incredible experience at Uchicko Austin last night with our server Dallas. He guided us through the most wonderful dinner, even bringing out extras from the kitchen and making us feel comfortable and cozy and what is otherwise a pretty buzzing restaurant. Dallas was attentive to our needs and we trusted his recommendations. The atmosphere at the tables near the bar was much quieter and quaint than the back room which was a lot louder. You can taste how fresh the fish is and how much thought and detail goes into every tiny little bite. I was worried we wouldnt get full but there was plenty of cooked items and greens to give you a good base (karage was wonderful and filling!). If you get the chance to sit in Dallas section you will not be disappointed!

Lovely restaurant and enough sound proofing that it wasn t deafening inside, even though it was a busy night - much appreciated! Good service, though the way the tables are arranged, we had a server s bottom hanging over our table every time they came to an adjacent table. The food was good, but not remarkable, and the size/price ratio was not for us. Even with a hefty price tag, we left so hungry we made tostadas at home afterwards. Nice date place for someone you want to impress, but not a practical, fun, yummy, filling outing. I m glad we went once, but not for us.

Definitely another overrated Uchi brand restaurant. The hosts at the front were less than helpful. Before stopping over for late night drinks, checked to see if they had availability showed tables available for every imaginable time after 10pm. Showed up and they said they were fully booked. Went on Google and booked a table for 10:30 and waited 15 minutes to be seated. Even though there were 3 empty tables while we waited. I asked if we could sit at one of them to which they replied, they were for reservations. All 3 tables stayed empty the entire rest of the night. Bought a bottle of overpriced underflavored sake awful experience.

Not knowing what to expect we stepped into the restaurant with anticipation. If you have been to Uchi you will find a very similar environment and menu. Although we had some dishes that we wanted to go with just out of preference, a large part of our choices were made for by our server. We have always found their recommendations to be on point and to never disappoint.

Took my mum here for her birthday. Got quite a few pieces as that is what the waiter suggested for our first time as opposed to omakase. The rice felt perfectly seasoned and cooked. The scallops, yellow tail, sea bass, and tasmanian ocean trout belly were all amazing and had the perfect texture. The main issue I had was with the weird service and atmosphere: no one could see the menu and the waiter had to hold the candle up to it and get really close to see anything and suggest stuff; the food took about 30-40 mins to get there which made sense given the rush but I wished it was a little quicker; and upon asking for wasabi we were told, albeit nicely, the dishes are actually meant to be eaten without wasabi and we had to insist on it which was a bit annoying. Overall, you re paying for the top notch ingredients and food, but personally did not think it was worth it.

So Ill admit this review might be biased because my friends hyped this place up, saying it was a nationally renowned Japanese restaurant, and Im a bit more critical of Japanese restaurants. As a restaurant itself, the food is ok, with some definite gems, but the service felt incredibly pretentious but also lack luster and lazy. Our main waitress in the beginning I thought was nice, energetic, and attentive, but my friends thought she was a bit over the top and weirdly defensive. By the end of the meal I saw what they meant, when she came over to snap at us that our receipt was INDEED itemized... despite none of us saying it wasnt or asking for an itemized receipt. When we told her none of us said anything about an itemized receipt she apologized for ease dropping. Also apparently this place cant split bills, but you can calculate what everyone owes and tell them what price to put on each card... but isnt that splitting? The other staff that waited on us (we had various staff bring out the different parts of our course meal) ranged from standard service to heres your food. What is it? Who cares kind of attitude. The first guy put our food on the table and mumbled what it was as he was walking away. Maybe once or twice they also took our plates we werent finished with. The food was OK, but for the price and prestige I expected a little more and although this place describes itself as a non-traditional Japanese concept they should just call it what it is, a Japanese southwest fusion, a fusion I have yet to see be done amazingly. All but one of our party of 5 got the happy hour omakase (8 Course meal $108 for 2) which is as follows Hot sake This was more like kind of warm sake at best. The sake became lukewarm pretty quickly after pouring. Had to drink pretty quickly so it didnt go completely cold Course 1: Half an endive with toasted rice seasoning Was OK for a starting dish, flavor didnt really standout, not very Japanese besides the toasted rice seasoning (not furikake, literally rice puffs with seasoning) Course 2: Avacado nigiri The sushi was actually really refreshing and the southwest lime flavor was good, but was just 1 small sushi, literally a bite Course 3: pumpkin tempura with Sansho mayo I like pumpkin tempura, but this was a Lil odd. Served with jalapeños on top and what I believe was sansho mayo (a green sauce that was on the heavy side). The flavor was OK, maybe a little heavy, but the tempura texture was odd, like a cross between tempura and panko. Wasnt terrible though, one of my friends said it was their favorite. Course 4: Otoro maki with pickled daikon This was my favorite dish! I love otoro!... but putting it in a roll, thats like putting putting hamburger halves in a hotdog bun or hotdogs in a hamburger bun. Sure, everythings there but the experience isnt quite right. We also wondered if it was really otoro at first, but upon unwrapping it, it did look like otoro. Course 5: Akami nigiri Basic tuna sushi, just 1 sushi, 1 bite Course 6: Scallop crudo I love the sweet and creamy flavor of scallops, however in this dish the sauce completely hides the scallops flavor. The sauce was OK, a spicy citrus cream sauce, but because I couldnt taste the scallops, they could have traded the scallops for Tofu, and besides texture, the flavor would have been the same. Course 7: Wagyu and fries served with greens in a vinaigrette The beef had a strong char on it that gave it a charcoal kind of flavor, which sadly was the only flavor the beef had. With the tallow sauce the beef was good, but good beef doesnt need a sauce. The fries were really good! The salt on them was no normal salt! The greens were also good. My couple friends said this was their favorite course Hamachili Before getting dessert we got the hamachili because it was still happy hour and apparently this dish put uchi on the map, and it didnt disappoint! The Hamachi with chili sauce and mandarin slices was a really good combo! Course 8: matcha cheese cake with berries and crumble Ok dessert, not bad not amazing

The food is top quality, service is as good as you can get, and the atmosphere was great (though we got there early). Cannot recommend enough.

Everything was perfect - our server was Tommy and he really went above and beyond! We went for happy hour and had an amazing time, he even gave us a couple of desserts on the house! Such an unforgettable experience.

Overall experience was fantastic and I d recommend Uchiko to anyone looking for creative flavour pairings and a subtle spin on Japanese cuisine, but since it s going for a high-end fine dining experience, I m nitpicking the details with the 4 rating. Went on a Friday for happy hour (4-6pm). Booked a table a month in advance so had no issues securing a reso. Food: Seafood quality is superb. Wasn t expecting much coming from the PNW, but it was delightful. Tuna didn t have any of the sinew in it. Rice quality is also top notch. Wasn t mushy and had structure. Must try: gyutoro nigiri, hama chili, milk & cereal Gyutoro is a house staple for a reason. Probably one of the top 5 things I ve eaten. The light crisp from the sear and buttery chew as it mixes with the rice is a lingering sensation I will think about for a long time. Hama chili is fun and refreshing. The citrus and chili pair so well with hamachi. It seems so obvious after tasting it, but never thought to combine them together like that. Milk & cereal is like a top 5 dessert for me. First bite made my eyes light up like fireworks. They use Captain Crunch which was so nostalgic. No notes. Plates & Utensils: Given how much thought goes into the unique flavours for each dish, it warrants having a fresh plate after each round. I don t want sauce from the toro taku temaki mixing with the hama chili. Small detail, but important when the experience is all about tasting the creative flavour profiles of each dish. I don t mind that they use disposable chopsticks, but a holder for it or paper sleeve so I can origami my own would ve been a thoughtful touch. Don t want my utensils touching the table and having it perched on my personal plate was fine, but would ve been cumbersome with getting a fresh plate. Again, small detail, but deterred from the overall elegance of the plating. Gyudon was exquisite, but the spoon given was awkward to use with the shallow dish. Made it somewhat hard to scoop out the rice. A soup spoon would ve been better. Service: Staff was attentive and kind. They took away plates promptly when we finished with it and refilled our water regularly. Can tell Uchiko has a great team in the kitchen and out front. Bathrooms: Needed more care and attention. Garbage was overfilling in the women s and the men s had urine on the floor. I m impressed with the dishes Tyson Cole has created and would definitely considering coming back for the gyutoro and milk & cereal alone. Worth checking out during happy hour to try more of their dishes. Parking: They provide free valet, which was very thoughtful. The entrance into the parking lot was a bit confusing with the pylons. A sign to direct traffic would ve been helpful. Saw an exit only sign but not one about where to go for valet.

For a generally mediocre experience, especially regarding some members of staff and their insistence that my girlfriend was not doing well despite her repeated statements to contrary, $410 is excessive.
