Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park is an absolute 5-star gem! The trails are amazing, whether youre hiking or biking, with tons of scenic spots along the way. And the pool!! Huge and perfect for catching some sun or swimming with friends. The whole park has such a laid-back, welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommend!

There are many trails available for walking or biking, and the flowers in the spring are quite beautiful. Some areas may have a slightly spooky atmosphere. Please note that the off-leash dog area is located north of the creek. Playground: This park has a big amazing playground that is entirely in the shade. Dog-friendliness: Dogs play off leash. Be careful of toxic algae and poison ivy. Picnic area: These are fine.

Beautiful improvement was done to this parks playground however there are no bathrooms available for use only portable ones across the street, not ideal for little ones. The pool bathroom is only available during pool hours in the summer time. Update: I came to the trail with my son this morning and someone broke into my car and stole my purse with wallet and everything in it. It was not visible and hidden under the seat. Please be vigilant, I have noticed a lot of homeless people at this park lately. I did a police report but they just said that it happens all the time and better luck next time.

Nice large greenbelt cover 200 acres. paved walking and biking trails. Lots of natural side trails through woods, along the creek, and limestone cliffs. people with kids and dogs off leash in areas. Only minor eyesore are the overhead power lines that run through the property, but we are effectively in town and in a neighborhood, so thats to be expected. Theres a municial pool, playgrounds, basketball courts, covered picnic areas, and ball fields. Long story short, this is great place to escape with the family, and to get some solid walking/hiking in, but if youre wanting solitude and quiet peaceful nature, this isnt that. But still very nice!

Pretty great park for kids. I had three with me (ages 9-11) and they all had fun. Pretty good playscape and the pool was very inviting (we didnt swim this time). The hiking trail was pretty fun as well. Didnt seem like too much of a challenge for any of us, and plenty of shade. Playground: Multiple playground areas suitable for various ages. Not a ton of shade, but the ground in padded in some areas. Toilets: Restrooms near the pool. Picnic area: Multiple tables and seating areas. Great for a picnic.

My wife and I just moved to Austin. Our Duke wasnt too happy about moving to Austin because he had plenty of areas to roam free down in the RGV. It was time for a change. I retired 4 years ago and Im so bored. My wife and I came to Austin, and we love it here. A neighbor suggested I take Duke to the Walnut Creek Park. I took Duke to this park, and I was pleasantly surprised. This park has everything. Biking and hiking trails and an off leash area for Duke. Duke was truly happy. I added some pics of Dukes adventure. Duke was dog tired when we arrived home. Definitely take your family, dog, cat, friends, and anyone who loves the outdoors in general. Great environment for all.

Off leash dog walk on one half of the park is a wonderful gift to dog owners. I wish they would dam up the creek a little so itd hold water more consistently (but maybe that wouldnt be good for it environmentally, I dunno).

Great park, trails are very well kept. Beautiful area. Great playground for kids. Come early on weekends or parking can be hard. Dogs are not in leashes so if you have a problem with large dogs I would avoid. I did have a dog growl at me once and come very close. Playground: Great playground. The slide may be hard to access for younger kids. Dog-friendliness: Very dog friendly. Dogs are off leash here so make sure you only bring dogs that are good with other dogs.

This really is a lovely park. Tons of trails to walk/jog/ride through the trees, a long paved trail that meanders some 5 miles from the west end to the east end, a wonderful playground for the kids, and great ball fields to boot! One of the worst parts of this park is a lot of the people who use it. I walk here every day, and invariably, p.o.s. dog owners leave their bags of dog poop all over the trails, even allowing their dogs to poop directly on the paved trail and not disposing of it. The other crummy part of this park is the staff that takes care of cleaning/maintenance. The light in the womens restroom was burnt out for almost an entire month before it was fixed, then it was broken again within days and wasnt fixed the last time I checked. Also, trash will sit for days and weeks scattered around the parking lots/grounds without getting picked up. Im talking everything from empty beer bottles to restaurant take-out trash to broken auto window glass to dirty diapers. Its such a pretty park. I wish people took better care of it.

A lot of different trails with varying lengths and difficulties. It is a large park which is nice, but if you stick to the shorter, easier loops there will be more people. It is an interesting intersection of nature and man-made infrastructure, especially with the power lines and towers that run through it. There is also some graffiti. But I guess that is to be expected... I dont mountain bike personally, but they have some intense looking mountain biking trails to go on, which is good for variety. Also beautiful trees. Toilets: There were port-a-potties in the parking lot. Eh. Dog-friendliness: Dog friendly, but keep dogs on leash, my mom got jumped up onto by a random dog.

Update, 03-12-24 Well I doubt it s was in response to this review but rode the trail the other day and all evidence of the camp is gone. Thank you to the clean up crew involved. I m sure it was a lot of work. Been biking here for years. Great trails for riding, hiking and letting your dogs stretch their legs. I understand that the homeless issue is a vast social economic quagmire but I don t think it is unreasonable for the City of Austin to put some effort into keeping the public parks free of encampments. This is currently along the BMX loop.
