Awesome place to take children between ages 4 and 14. S.T.E.M. inspired games, projects, playscapes, activities, experiments and experiences that are perfect for nurturing young minds and personalities.

Superb place for toddlers. We went for the baby bloomers spot and it did not disappoint. They do not allow outside food but they will allow you to step outside and reenter on the same tickets which saves a lot of hassle.

Weve been a few times, and recently went back for Austin Museum Day. Despite the line, we didnt wind up waiting more than 15 minutes to get in. The staff were kind, and had the systems in place to keep things moving. Once we got in, our kiddos didnt want to leave! They spent all their time in an exhibit upstairs, and had a blast. Thank you for a lovely Saturday morning our family!

Thinkery is an interactive childrens museum in Mueller Austin neighborhood just a few minutes North of downtown. It has a cool treehouse. Water play with a spot that allows children to simulate a water tornado. Play kitchen that is popular. Annual membership seems to pay for itself after just 2 to 3 visits. At the time of this writing one day per week is free admission - open to the public.

We really love going here. It s been perfect since she was six months old. There is a baby and toddler section that is so fun to explore, storytimes, water play indoors and outdoors. The older kids always really seem to enjoy the chicken coop and the playscape. Also it seems that all of the interactive toys and machines are in good working order and clean. I have been to other kid s museums where this was not the case! Right across the street is a fenced in playground and a lake with tons of feisty duck, geese and children. I might have seen some swans but I m not a birdtologist.

Do not book a birthday party here. A few years ago, they offered a full program, but no longer. It says in the website that they had a photo backdrop, birthday crown, and Thinkery accessory. We got none of that. The room was a mess when we finally got in. The staff was not really present to help us with much of anything. It was a terrible experience as a parent. Our child got to run around, but that s about it. When I called to tell the staff that I was disappointed, they said they needed to change the website and they would talk to the staff. When I asked about some compensation, I was told we can t do that at this time. I get it, they are a nonprofit, but I paid money to be there, and I was expecting at least the items I was promised. I added a screenshot from their website from today. They do not offer those things. Please don t be fooled like I was.

A relatively small facility with a limited number of thematically scattered activities. Many activities are nonfunctional. Really most appropriate for kids in the 3-5 year age bracket, older children are likely to be bored and unengaged. A lot of messy activities likely to get both children and parents wet and/or dirty as well; a change of clothes will be needed. Hard to recommend at the price point.

The Thinkery is always a fun place, but I definitely recommend going during the week, if you can. It will still be fun, but it can get crazy busy during holidays, days kids cant play outside (i.e. extra hot or rainy days), and/or the weekend. Just expect that, and youll do alright. There is the wonderful water play room, play kitchen, farmers market, and a soft toddler play area (babies/toddlers only) upstairs. Note: There are elevators for those with any mobility issues. Downstairs has interactive exhibits such as light, motion, simple machines, making your own stop motion animation, a creative maker space type corner, and more! Of course, theres also the water play and playground areas outside, so dont forget to hit those up! There isnt food in The Thinkery, but there are many restaurants nearby. Youll be given that days Thinkery admission sticker, so you can come and go as you please/need to. Be careful to not put the sticker in a place that might wash off, though. Their gift shop is small but cute and has some pretty cool looking stuff in there for multiple ages! One of the best parts? They reimburse parking for up to 3 hours in the garage nearby, so thats awesome! Granted, I would still plan on paying some for parking, if you will be eating while in the area. However, every little bit helps! Well definitely be back!

Visited on a busy Saturday afternoon, line to check in was out the front door, with about 5 people in front of me. My 4 year old needed to go to the restroom and could not hold it. I approached the counter and asked one of clerks (Louis) if I could run to the RR and come back to check in. He raised his voice and said that I could not and that I needed to check in first. He said I could step out and use one of the restrooms from the businesses around the corner. Not only that, he held out his arms as if he was stopping a shop lifter. Unacceptable behavior towards an adult, nevertheless a toddler. When I asked the girl checking me out for his name, she added that he has been working at the museum for a long time, as if that excuses the behavior. I am terribly disappointed and saddened that this is the way a children s museum employees treat others. Empathy and kindness goes a long way.

Adults pay full price. Activity wise they were ok- could do so much better, some of the areas are just lame. For my 3.5 year old there wasn t much he really enjoyed- especially due to the fact that it gets so crowded, a suggestions would be they should have sessions and limit the amount of people at any given time , or expand it and make these sections bigger, but then again that $$$. No eating area, no snacks allowed, how s this a kid friendly place? Also, the upstairs bathrooms have such loud noises it was very overwhelming, toilets and hand dryers from from ladies bathrooms could be heard in the men s, add to that the men s toilets and hand dryers. Was very loud my son was covering his ears and was in fear to use toilet. I guess we go here because it s closer. Or maybe because we went to the Doseum in San Antonio we ve gotten spoiled.

Underwhelming for the price! 3 hours parking free - insert your ticket inside to validate. I recently visited the Thinkery in Austin with my two children, ages 5 and 7, and unfortunately, the experience did not meet our expectations. Having visited other childrens museums, I was disappointed by the relatively high price of admission compared to the quality and variety of exhibits offered. Many of the rooms felt sparse and underwhelming, with several displays appearing overused and in need of repair. Despite the museums mission to inspire creativity and curiosity, the limited number of engaging activities left my children feeling bored after about an hour. Given their independent and inquisitive nature, I had hoped for a more stimulating and fulfilling visit. Overall, the Thinkery fell short of providing the enriching experience we had anticipated.

Awesome idea and still would be cool if the different exhibits all worked and tolerant worn out. Ex. The magnifying items are in solid acrylic and they are so scratched up you can t properly see the items within. The water area smells of sewer and most the features are missing parts

This wasnt we thought it would be. I came with my 16 month old I didnt feel like the baby section was for a younger crawling baby now that he is walking he seemed to be bored easy and was ready to go. The water table was smaller than expected and although I thought it was lacking on activities it was the only thing that kept his attention. Definitely meant for older kids such as 5 and up

We first discovered the Thinkery through Pogo Pass and weve been back several times now. There is a huge variety of things for kids to do and so many ways for them to learn through play. There are two water play areas so bring a change of clothes for your kid(s).

I was a little unsure about bringing my slightly older boys (ages 8 & 11) because all of the pictures online look to be prek age kids. We are from out of state and thought wed give it a try before we went back home. Im so glad we did! Our family had a wonderful time. There are many rooms filled with things 8-11 year old boys love. There was so much to do. We stayed for several hours and will definitely go back during our next trip to Texas.

Although it s a great place for hands on activities the place felt very chaotic. There s a section that allows the kids to play with water, located up stairs that was just completely disappointing. There was several field trips taking place that they, older kids seem to be around 7-9 years old that were throwing toys across the room. Not to mention some of them were climbing in, the parents & teacher were watching and laughing and while it s definitely a kid place my toddler & others could not enjoy.

We bought the yearly membership after our second visit because I knew we would have no problem coming here at least once a week. There is so much for various age groups and he s always loved it. Parking in the McBee garage is comped if you validate it inside Thinkery. It s across the street from a park and also nearby several great restaurants. So thankful there s such an awesome place for kids!

TL;DR: A fun experience for the whole family! Coming back soon. This was our first experience in a childrens museum and werent quite sure what to expect. We were initially turned off to the amount of children we saw out front that were visiting on a Tuesday but nevertheless had already made the trip from San Antonio where we were staying and didnt feel like driving back without giving it a fair chance. We did not realize how massive the museum is from just looking at it from the outside, but once inside we were impressed with how much there was to do. We also want to take a second and thank all the staff members who willingly engaged our child and helped her make the most of her experience. The only improvement we would like to see is their re-entry sticker system. They were small and didnt stick well to the materials of our shirts. Both my wife and I ended up losing ours somewhere within the building but luckily didnt want to risk leaving early without completing the building first. Although I am sure the staff wouldve given us new ones, we didnt see it worth the hassle. We would visit here again and look forward to doing so in future trips!

Went in a filed trip with my grandsons school It was a pretty cool place, much smaller than I imagined. I though too many people were allowed in at one time. The staff was nice, but I think for the cost of an entry ticket of 18.00 dollars they should have staff available to help students with how to use things in the museum. It seemed some things needed repairing. Overall a fun time and the area has just blown up with beautiful parks, shopping, and restaurants. I definitely feel this is geared for younger elementary age boys and girls.
