agree with some of these other reviews- this place is underwhelming. i feel like they could do a few things to improve the experience. don t love the order at the counter concept with the line backing out the front door. felt like they could ve had louder music playing it was oddly quiet around the space. feel like for the money you can prob find a better spot in austin!

Better half has great coffee and delicious food. It s a bit noisy and parking in front gets occupied quickly. There js an easy to access lot around back. Patrons order at the counter and items are brought to your table. I appreciate no order numbers or names are being yelled across the restaurant.

I m only giving a 5 star because I don t want to ruin the overall, but I was in there yesterday and have to say the no laptop rule was a bit excessive. I was waiting for a meeting and took my laptop out for what was a minute to check something before my meeting and was immediately told to put it away. I understand not wanting campers but this rule should be a bit more lax or trained better on with your staff good thing there s many other coffee shops I can take my meetings and my work to that will allow me to check an email or two hopefully you ll get more lax on this policy or train it better

This place is definitely popular, but I found myself underwhelmed by the famous cauliflower tots and the breakfast sandwich. They didn t live up to the hype for me. The cauliflower tots were crispy but, like the breakfast sandwich, could benefit from more flavor. However, the beetroot ketchup had a unique taste to it. On a positive note, the lemon olive oil cake and the queso were delightful. As for the coffee, I was disappointed. The caramel sea salt cold brew tasted more like vanilla, with barely any caramel or sea salt flavors coming through. The lavender latte was watery. Overall, nothing really hit the mark. The best part of the place, though, is definitely the vibe. The outdoor patio is spacious, with plenty of shaded seating and a cozy bar area in the corner, covered in vines and string lights. Inside, there s a nice mix of seating options so whether you want a couch or a high table they have it all. And they have a little kiddie pool outside where you can dip your feet, which is nice, and dogs are allowed, so if you re just looking for a chill place to hang out, it s great, but I wouldn t go out of my way for the food or drinks.

Day 4 of work from coffee shop. I like this place for cocktails more than coffee I think. While the vanilla latte was so good I got 2, it s just too loud for working and the seats are hard. That being said, still very cute, relaxed and a great breakfast sandwich with what looked to be a homemade English muffin. Come with a friend for a quick lunch meeting instead. Plenty of seating outside and the largest tree in existence in Texas.

Really cute place! I had come to this location after a group run in Austin, but had never eaten here. The food is super good! You order at the counter and then they bring it to you. The churros were surprising light didn t feel very heavy. The strawberry pancakes were just the right amount of sweetness and the chicken biscuit sandwich was delicious. The biscuit was cooked perfectly. There is plenty of parking in the back and plenty of picnic tables out back to sit at. Overall great atmosphere and feels very Austin. Would go back!

I recently visited Better Half Coffee and Cocktails and was impressed by the food. The sandwich with plant-based meat was fantastic flavorful and satisfying. However, our experience was marred by a mix-up with the order. We were served the wrong dish initially, and it took a bit too long for the server to return to our table so we could request the correct one. Despite the hiccup, the food quality made up for it.

Honestly, I always have good service at Better Half! This time, Kansas was awesome! First, I got Mildred Pear as my drink! Ummm why would I not get a drink with my name ! It was basically an old fashioned with a hint of sweetness! My burger was yummy, I added some jalapeños to add some spice to my food. The carnitas queso was also enjoyable AND shareable. As always, i will definitely be back!

Great spot for coffee and a bite to eat. Their lattes are delicious and they have a good selection of foods to choose from. I ordered a Rosemary Lavender Latte (delicious but it is heavy on the lavender compared to other lavender lattes I have tried in the Austin area), the Cajun Waffle Iron Hashbrowns, and a slice of the Olive Oil Cake. The hashbrown dish was very creamy and they don t skimp on sauce, and the cake was moist and lemony.

Better Half Coffee & Cocktails in Austin, TX, is fantastic! I recently ordered a salad and cheesecake for takeout, and both were delicious. The salad was fresh and flavorful with a mouthwatering mix of colors and textures. The cheesecake was perfectly creamy and sweet, and paired exquisitely with the raspberry compote. The atmosphere is inviting, and the staff is so friendly. I do wish they offered mocktails, but I appreciate the non-alcoholic beer option. Overall, Better Half is a gem, and I can t wait to return and try their cauliflower tots.

Used to love coming here. Staff used to be wonderful, and the food was on point. If wed miss dinner at the normal time wed come for the reverse happy hour a $5-6 burger was a nice prize for having to hurry out by 10pm. Seems like theyve ditched reverse happy hour altogether now and the rest of the menu is too expensive for a random weeknight meal. They really need some sound dampening panels inside (its 100% hard surfaces), so if youre looking for a quiet drink or meal plan to be outside.

We stopped in here for a drink before going to dinner and the place had a nice layout with indoor and outdoor seating. It seems like it shares a common outdoor space with another place, but looks fun where you can hang out with some friends. We ordered the Uncle Gus, which was an amazing mezcal margarita on the spicy side. We also had the pink sangria which was really good too. We went before the dinner rush, so it was kind of slow, but the service was great and the place was nice and clean. Will have to go in sometime for brunch or dinner to taste of food and experience the atmosphere.

I really didn t want to have to do this but I am extremely disappointed with better half. I understand that Sundays are busy but once we placed our ordered we waited for our coffees for about 15-20 mins and I finally went up to the cashier and see my two coffees are just sitting there and no one told us our drinks were ready so I asked if I could take my coffees and one of the employees rudely said if it s yours take it so I ended up serving myself. I then went up again mind you it s already been 30-40 mins for our food and they went in the back to the check and after 10 mins it finally came out our sandwiches were extremely salty and gross. We also ordered hashbrowns and biscuits on the side as well they said that was 5 tickets behind LIKE WHAT??? We ORDERED IT ON ONE TICKET and normally all the food comes together at once if you order at the counter but at that point we didn t even feel like eating because this is NOT how you serve or treat your customers. Horrible service and overpriced food.

Ordered two ice coffees for breakfast, two breakfast sandwiches, hash browns, and a biscuit. Coffee sat on the counter with the ice melting until we ourselves went to pick it up. Food didn t come out for one hour (just the breakfast sandwiches). Hash browns and biscuit were going to take an additional 20 minutes at which point we would have been done with our breakfast. Sandwiches were overwhelmingly salty. Asked for a refund on the order, at which point only the biscuit and hashbrowns were refunded. Overall poor service and poor food.

I found this place while searching for locally-owned coffee shops in the area, and I am glad I did. The indoor area looks more like a diner and the place functions more like a full-service restaurant that a coffee shop. I mention this because the service is more at a restaurant speed that a coffee shop speed, but its well worth it. The menu is impressive and there should be something for everyones tastes. The hot beverages were served at perfect drinking temperature and the cold beverages were chilled without using excessive ice, which is such a bonus to me. For food, I got the burnt cheesecake, which was very interesting and very delicious! The outdoor seating area is beautiful and relaxing. Definitely recommend for lunch, a snack, coffee, or anything in between!

Why didn t anyone bother to tell the people who are about to queue for a good 30 min that there would be a wait of 2 hours once they ordered? I would have left earlier and not wasted 30 min in the queue. It is a nice place to try but not worth 2.5h waiting of people s time.

Breakfast sandwich with sausage looks great, but was dry and tasteless. Hash browns in sandwich were a thick block of dry unseasoned potato that dominated the sandwich. Sausage patty was incredibly thin and dry. Egg was thin over easy style, white of the egg overcooked and dry, but yolk half runny. Sandwich was also messy and hard to eat, but that would have been fine if the sandwich tasted as good as it looks. Latte had nice foam art, was also only ok flavor and barely lukewarm. I guess come here to Instagram or tiktok your meal but eat elsewhere.

It s a good place to go if you re someone who can work remotely. The outdoor area could use some umbrellas and SOME of the staff seem a bit exasperated, not all. This is very much a farm to table restaurant. Everything was good. We got the churro crueller, the breakfast sandwich and the regular breakfast. The crueller was ok but not a true crueller, it was a combination of a bunch of styles without doing any of them completely. Plus it had a lemon flavoring which is just a sign that something is being hidden. The breakfast sandwich was again ok just coming up short. Nothing really stood out it was a bunch of stuff in between a sourdough English muffin. The plate was simple and the best part was the berry jam.

Updating my review from a 5 to a 4. Came back here two more times and the food just wasn t as good. They are capable of 5 star food but i guess it depends who is working. Original review: Loved the food, service, and vibes here! Came on a Sunday for breakfast and it was the same day as a marathon so it was really busy. There s so much seating outside though that made me think this place is equipped to move that quickly and I was right. There are some reviews saying their food took 90 minutes. I think we waited maybe 15-20 minutes. We got two breakfast sandwiches, one with beyond meat and one with avocado and both were amazing. The avocado one is a lot lighter and fresher. The cauliflower tots are a MUST. We ended with a chocolate chip cookie. It s a damn good cookie. High quality chocolate chips, flavourful dough, and salted. I ll definitely be back for breakfast and to try their dinner items. Vegetarian options: Beyond meat substitutes

This place has a lot of seating and some tasty food! Only thing I wish is that you didnt have to order your coffee in the line. Some items you order on the app, some in line. I ordered my food on the app and my coffee in the single person line which gets pretty long. Queso was tasted great, the consistency was a little too thick like Velveeta and could have been hotter but Id come again. They just need better service.

I ll be the first to admit a mistake and that s where this begins. I was sitting at one table waiting for friends and was looking through the menu via the QR code unique to that table. When friend arrived we moved to another table and I mistakenly placed my order there. After my friends orders arrived, I got a text saying that I couldn t be find but to alert a staff member to get my order. I walked up and immediately apologized and stated my mistake and just was curious on next steps. What I was met with from the initial gentleman, was as if I had thrown my food on the ground and asked him to clean it up. An eye roll and a well that s not how that works. After being handed a number and told to wait, I did. A woman then comes up and says are you Tre? I said yes, I am sorry again, what are the next steps. Another set of daggers and, so look because you did it at the wrong table we have to remake your food. I said, that no worries I can wait. She said they couldn t find you and waited for too long. Where even are you sitting right now? I pointed in the direction and she said, okay just so you know and your friend know if you ever come back here, here s how it works there is a line of courteously informing the process and complete patronizing as if I made the gravest mistake. I moved tables and was willing to wait for my own mistake! I, not one to be lectured by someone I ve already admitted my mistake said sternly. I understand. I have this number. I will be at this table. One portion of my order comes out and another lecture is given to my entire table! Hey, just so you know because they couldn t find you we had to remake this and it s taken longer. Just to let you know. I said, thank you. I will wait for the rest of my order. This minor mistake was turned into a punishment and a piss poor attitude with me being the reason and because I did this. There are a whole host of words and different tone of rhetoric to course correct or remedy the situation. Instead it was chastising and not embarrassing because truly, their reaction was that if I get a brunch rush (wasn t that busy) but please, do not assume you can speak to anyone or lecture anyone that you don t know over a minor mistake. I was wrong, and I admitted that up front what came after was quite frankly immature behavior. Do better, watch your tone, meet people in the middle.

The food was meh. They were out of some items from their already limited menu. Food was basic, I kept forgetting what I was eating while eating it. Very unseasoned food. The coffee was below average too. The best thing we had were the cauliflower tater tots but even that isnt worth coming back.

And given that I was driving that night, I was keeping it sober so I was drinking tea. They have really good iced tea! And that is surprisingly hard to find. Well done guys!

Excellent hangout spot with a great patio and food. They share the outdoor picnic benches with Holdout brewery, so there re plenty of beers, wines, cocktails to choose from. They also have a good menu of some staples like burgers and chicken sandwiches. Atmosphere alone is worth a visit on a cool fall night.

The food was good but we waited over an hour and a half for the food. We asked at an hour how much longer and they said come back and check it s busy right now. When our food came, it came one dish at a time (all 4 of us on the same bill), quite spaced out. Service terrible and not worth the wait.

As soon as I sat down in the booth I was approached and told I couldnt sit there because I had a laptop. I asked why, and how that makes any sense. He motioned toward a sign. I asked him again how that makes any sense. He explained that due to the revolving nature of the booths, you have to sit at the bar if you have a laptop. It was the least welcome Id ever felt in a dining establishment. Ive never been explicitly told by a hospitality business that they want their paying customers to spend as little time there as possible. I immediately gathered my things and drove back to Dallas. I hope they go out of business.

We came to town for ACL and stayed nearby. This place was highly recommended by our local family. I can see why. Everything was so delicious! I had the breakfast English muffin. My friend had the granola and yogurt. They make their own granola. They were very generous with the bacon - which was crisp and flavorful. The coffee s also really good. I ll be back on my next visit

Ive been here a couple of times, and both times, it was friends that kind of dragged me along. My experience was strikingly similar both times. I dont understand the hype... service is on the rude side of mediocre (this was noticed both times). As for the food, nothing about my first visit sticks out... just unmemorable. On the second visit, the burger was absolutely smothered in deli mustard (call me petty, but good high-quality beef should be the focal point of a good burger, not a mouthful of deli mustard) As for the vibe, its just not my thing. I know lots of folks like upcycled diner vibes and think its cool or whatever... but i just think this place would be so much better if they just offered friendly service and high-quality food rather than trying to be trendy.

Seemed like a nice enough place until I opened my laptop in the wrong place. If you go here pay attention to where you are so one of the fairly rude folks working there dont scold you. Ummmm, Sir, didnt anyone tell you about the rule?. No laptops alound here... $8 for a coffee and they added the tip for me before handing me the machine. I am not from Austin but I am quite sure you can find better, at least some place an up tight person doesnt school you on the rules. Just saying.....

We are so excited to be able to take advantage of their beautiful patio! The BLT and it was literally the best one I have ever had, but its seasonal. Every ingredient was fresh and the best of the best. The cauliflower tots are not to be missed and they make the most amazing home made beet ketchup.
