Hopfields is the best. Delicious food, friendly staff, large tap list. Sit in the front for cafe vibe, or in the back for privacy (or outside, but often too hot out for that). One of the best casual spots in central Austin.

I had been excited all day when I heard there was a place for escargot dumplings. Having had escargot before and loving it, I couldn t wait to try this unique dish. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a big disappointment. The dumplings tasted like soap, and though I ate half of them out of denial, I probably should have listened to the reviews that mentioned this place has declined. It s a real letdown, especially because where else would you find escargot dumplings? The steak tartare, while not as fresh as another review had claimed, still tasted delicious. The saving grace was using the soft bread from the escargot plate to dip into the rich, flavorful oil from the dumplings. Paired with the relish and raw egg, it all blended together into a wonderful combination. Despite some letdowns, the staff there is incredibly friendly and make great conversation. The interior is also very intimate with the bar counter right as you enter and picnic style tables in dim lighting off to the back- a great place to just chill. The prices are hefty but I recomend giving it a try. Just make sure to park next door where there is parking for all the shops nearby.

Dined for lunch today, Labor Day 2024. Loved the elegant atmosphere and decor. Daughter and I shared orders of steak tartare and duck rueben, with seasoned fries, plus cappuccino and pots de creme. Delicious, generous, and ever so pleasing to the palate. Service was swift and very timely. We ordered a meal to go for my son-in-law. Will definitely return for a full service dinner experience. Compliments to the Chef!! Kid-friendliness: Four-month old baby attended with us. The table arrangements were extremely accommodating.

Food is OK, but nothing special. The escargot dumplings were the best things we had, the mussels were terrible. They were supposed to be in white wine with chili flakes, it was more like chili flake paste diluted with a dash of wine - really couldn t eat them. But the food was great compared to the service. They lost parts of our order so it took so long that we ordered dessert to go and they then forgot it was done until we tracked down our waitress and asked for it. Not worth it.

This is one of our favorite places because of the delicious food and creative cocktails. We like the mussels, burgers, fries, and many other items on the menu. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. When we were there the Olympics were being shown on a big projection screen. The Hyde Park Theatre is nearby if you are looking for something else to do after grabbing a bite or drink.

Hopfields is one of my favorite date night spots, ir is one of the first places I visited when I first came to Austin in 2016. I was there before their liquor license, (I do miss the elderflower wine-based French 75, no longer on the menu) the frites have continued to taste as delicious as the first time I had them, the escargot dumplings were perfect, and their desserts are delicious (albeit a bit on the smaller side) I know its a bit on the pricier side, but I think its worth it.

I love this spot. Great food, great drinks, excellent wine and spirits selection and a huge tap wall for draft beer. Laid back vibe. My husband moved here from France a few years ago and this is his favorite place to go. So, whoever criticizes this spot as not being French enough does not understand the concept. Hopfields is French by Americans and they are doing a damn good job. 5 stars.

Amazing experience visiting Austin and going to Hopfields. I spent over 30 min trying to find the perfect restaurant for my mood which included craft cocktails (single cube a must), creative food, and a good atmosphere. The service was friendly and attentive from the moment I walked in, and the other guests were also kind and welcoming. They ran out of the duck wings I wanted but the chef offered to make me something special with duck which was absolutely amazing. I also splurged on the oysters and they were so good...I live in Seattle so I feel spoiled with oysters but these were above par in comparison. The bartenders are mixologists and know what theyre doing. Its really a calming and nice atmosphere with good music at the perfect volume and great for sitting at the bar or having a group. Well done and thank you for the experience!

Incredible food! Atmosphere is a bit more like a typical brewpub. I don t drink alcohol so I ordered espresso- I d wanted to enjoy it with my crème brûlée, that sweet-bitter combination is so nice. I had to ask for my espresso three more times after ordering the two together and only ended up getting it nearly 20 minutes later. I cannot remember when I last had less attentive service. It was not especially busy, I ordered at the bar.

I came into Hopfield s due to me always being in tbe Hyde Park area. My food was stellar, no gripes with the shishitos, burgers or dessert I had all perfect. Most of all, Kyle (my bartender) provided the best service I ve received in a long while in an Austin establishment. He made great conversation, guided me through the menu whenever I had questions, and selected a beer that was not too hoppy for my taste. I ll be sure to drop by again for their massive beer selection and to hopefully have the pleasure of conversing with Kyle once more. Thanks!

When I see French cuisine I expect French but here the food is more like a fusion, please don t get me wrong the food was tasty but not at all original, very pricey for not being authentic French cuisine. The place was very nice once you are taken to a table, the area for dining is cozy! So a plus for ambience. I give a 4 star for service because they were rushing us out. In France no one rushes you out so I missed that no rush feeling you get dining in France.

I just paid $80 for two cocktails and an appetizer only to have a baby screaming in my ear the whole time! No I am sorry or ask be re-seated! This is fine dining if you re charging $50/plate for some dishes. You can t be letting a baby scream and walk around the restaurant (of a very bar-focused fine dining gastropub) for 45 minutes without someone talking to the table. It s rude to the other guests who are paying money to relax with a cocktail. Who can relax at a cocktail bar when there s a baby screaming? I would ve ordered more cocktails and food if anyone just checked I m with me or the offending table. They also gave me maybe a pinkys worth of crostini for our cheeseboard charged extra for bread for a dish that requires it. I worked in restaurants, crostini is day old bread toasted, no reason not to give enough for the dish you re serving. It cheapens the experience.

Ive been looking for another French restaurant since Chez Nous closed. I think Hopfields might be the replacement. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting. It looks like a great spot to bring a group of friends to enjoy a meal and each others company. Forewarned, it is a little expensive. A full dining experience for two people with 2 apps, 2 entrees, 1 dessert, and 4 drinks will cost two people $200+. The steak tartar was flavorful, I can say their French onion soup is my second favorite. I see they have a Full English Breakfast. I am looking forward to trying it. We will be back!

Its ok. My friends and I went here for dinner and got a variety of dishes. I got the French onion soup which was a little too salty and the baguette was thin, overall OK. My friends orders didnt look very appetizing to me, but I didnt try it, so take my review with a grain of salt. That being said, I dont think anyone complained about the flavor - it was ok. My big gripe here is the prices. Its highway robbery. My soup was $18. Their burger is $19. If the prices were cheaper Id see myself giving the place another chance and trying something else.

This is my new favorite place. It literally hits all my fave criteria. Delicious, high quality, bougie but casual, accessibly priced for what it is, and quiet. The food - elegant, delicious, fun, French-fusion. There is a seated dining area back behind the bar area that s in front that is cute, quiet, intimate, without being overly formal or stuffy. We got salad, steak tartare, duck wings, and poutine and I would eat every single one of those things again. There was not a miss. We also got a glass of house bubbly and even it was well-balanced and perfectly enjoyable, not too sweet or too dry. Clearly the whole menu has been very well curated. The atmosphere honestly reminds me of a hole in the wall spot in Europe. Love it.

It was my birthday and our anniversary and if they treated us extra special just because of it, I will back to find out. Delicious food and great beer selection. I tried the Prankster and while it wasnt for me (too floral and less herby than I expected) it definitely was a complex drink with lots of layers; it would be a great drink for someone. I was in the ER about 28 hours after eating there. Since the symptoms lasted well beyond 48 hours, I believe it was food poisoning. I had the delicious salmon on the menu that night. After a disappointing meal at another Austin restaurant the day before that made me seriously think about just not eating out in town anymore. I thought I d try the NYT 36 Hours as a last resort. Just about the only place there was Hopfields. I travel quite a bit and it has rarely let me down. The description was captivating as was the experience. It was a Father Day treat! The Austin Sour had me thinking of Bacchanal in NOLA, DTO in Galveston or Julep in Houston. The peaux de poulet was a much more delicate version of flea market chicharrones with Valentina. Fantastic with a mimosa, fresh and clean to wash it down. My partner left nothing behind of their veggie eggs Benedict and I mopped my croque madame plate clean. Would ve like to have the second piece of bread on top to make it a true to tradition croque, but details. I finished with the other brunch drink a coffee liquor based drink that got drank. Partner had a drip coffee which was better than Radio we had in the morning. Hopfields bailed out Austin for the next trip. Well played. Go.

Absolutely badass food here. Dont be afraid to try the steak tartare. Ive also had the Reuben twice. Best fries Ive ever had. Great selection of beer, maybe the best Ive seen. I recommend sitting at the bar if its not busy and youre getting drinks. One time though, there was a sign saying wait to be seated, and there was a long line of people waiting. So after a couple minutes, I noticed we were blocking the way so people couldnt walk through and it was really awkward, so we went and sat outside on the patio. A few minutes later this unhinged server came out literally acting like we did something illegal lol and kicked us out, it was really weird and unpleasant. Id been roughing it on a road trip and done a lot of hiking, so I think she might have thought we were homeless or street people or whatever, idk Im projecting but that was kind of the vibe she gave off. She probably didnt last long there tho. In contrast, met a bartender there who is one of the coolest dudes Ive met in Austin and told us all the local spots to check out and turned us onto the steak tartare

One of the top to go French restaurants of choice in town. Especially if you want a less crowded places for a more romantic setting. The place has great mood lighting for dates or family style meals or just grabbing a quick fare with friends or coworkers in their 3 partitions. The Entree menu changes seasonally and the quality and portion of food for the price are very well justified. I have never left feeling hungry but always have felt satisfied. The wine listings are wide and really good and the server recommendation pair really well with the food. Vegetarian options: Their Ratatouille is pretty good for a vegetarian option. It does not look like the Disney movie but its really good in taste.

A great spot with two vibes once inside The front is a bit more busy with more noise while the back is more quiet and calm. Neither was off putting and both are great places to enjoy this fantastic restaurant. The food and drinks were very well executed and so delicious. There is a large selection of beers on tap along with excellent wine and cocktails to choose from. The escargot dumplings were incredible and the beef bourguignon was melt in your mouth tender and delicious. Uber is probably better than driving as parking is a bit of a challenge, but the trip is absolutely worth it.

Food was decent, but service was horrible. Made a brunch reservation, got there early, still waited for over an hour. I understand that a party of 20 walked in and occupied the kitchen, but no communication for over an hour on our food. Just waiting around, no water refills, no check-in from the waiters, nothing. Lots of pushback from the manager and waiters when I brought up our wait time. No way a burger and open-faced breakfast sandwich takes more than 5 minutes to cook. Again, probably good food and the atmosphere is lovely. But unprofessional, untimely and rude service.

We were searching for a restaurant near the Moody Center and werent disappointed by this quirky neighborhood bar/restuarant. We made reservations and thus, when we arrived, we were immediately led through the bar that was humming with people and led through the narrow passage to the seating in the back. We were surpised by the size of the place and impressed by the quality of the French cuisine, the warmth and knowledge of the staff, and the overall combination of neighborhood restaurant and upscale cafe. Enjoy! Parking: There was a free parking lot just south of the restaurant and plenty of parking along neighborhood streets.

Hopfields is my favorite brunch spot in Austin. Ive actually only ever been here for brunch, so this review is specific to that experience. Some classic French and Euro inspired dishes, great coffee, and a variety of boozy beverages. Ive enjoyed the eggs benedict, full English, petit dejeuner, french toast, bagel and lox, croque madame, and the salad niçoise. And Id recommend every one of them. If youre going with friends, I highly recommend ordering a French press for the table. Its always made so perfectly and just a treat. Im not much of a drinker, but Ive enjoyed their mimosa flight once or twice. Aside from the food, this place has maybe my favorite aesthetic. Its eclectic and elevated but creates an atmosphere that is inviting and cozy. Combine this with the always pleasant staff and the quiet, relaxed environment and youre bound to walk away happy.

Just amazing waitstaff - light, funny, knowledgeable and helpful. Quiet, chill, relaxed vibe. AND the food!!!! Having eaten all over the world, this is among the very best. The filet mignon was simply, yet perfectly, prepared and among the most delicious Ive ever eaten. My wifes beef cheek bourguignon was the ultimate in exquisite, tender comfort food. Expert-level cocktails round out the experience. I write this at the risk of opening the floodgates because, selfishly, I want this to be our little secret - but this place deserves to more than survive and thrive!

Amazing selection of craft beers and wine. They always do a great job of keeping the beer menu up to date. The ambiance is charming and patrons are diverse across any number of characteristics. Food is really excellent here as well. Tried the vegan muscles and fries which was surprisingly spicy and a bit oily if Im being honest. But they tasted great together and we uses the left over sauce and oil to make a killer vegetable stir fry at home. Will always be one of our favorites but it is expensive. Vegetarian options: Always seasonal vegetarian offerings. Really want to try their carrots.

I definitely had a bad experience. I dont understand much about the food served in the restaurant, but I ordered a dish without jalapeno, that is, for those who serve food, they should understand that I dont eat spicy food. The food arrived and the food was spicy. The waiter was not a good friend at that moment and so I asked him to remove the plate. When the bill came my colleague asked to remove the dish I didnt eat from the bill, so the waiter was a little rude. So we called the manager.. only then did she offer another food. But it was too late In summary it was a horrible experience. There is no information on the menu which food is spicy. I suggest that the restaurant improves the menu by bringing all the information in a clear way. besides said instruct the waiters to be more polite.
