The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center is the official Texas state botanic garden and arboretum. Daily entry is from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. and the gardens are open until 5 p.m. Lady Bird Johnson, our former first lady, and actress Helen Hayes founded an organization in 1982 to protect and preserve North America's native plants and natural landscapes. This special place exists to introduce people to the beauty and diversity of wildflowers and other native plants. Every day, the Wildflower Center brings life to Mrs. Johnson's vision in its public gardens, its woodlands and sweeping meadows as well as in internationally influential research. In 2006, the Center became an organized research unit of The University of Texas at Austin.

We enjoyed the wildflowers and movie at Lady Bird Johnson s. The gardens were well-laid out and maintained. Many of the blooming shrubs & flowers were late Summer plants. Would recommend a visit.

What a special part of Austin heritage! Beautiful at all times of the year due to smartly organized planting for different flowering periods. Plenty of pollinators, and we even saw a rat snake wandering around. Be sure to visit the rain capture tower. The native plant sale is also a hit - theyll be the healthiest plants you can put at home.

The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center is an absolute gem! Our family recently visited from out of town, and we were thoroughly impressed by how well-kept and beautiful the grounds are. The Dinosaur Exhibit was a pleasant surprise, adding an unexpected element of fun and education to our visit. The Center is perfect for families, offering a peaceful and engaging environment for kids and adults alike. We enjoyed exploring the diverse plant life and learning about native Texan flora. The trails are well-maintained, and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Were already planning our return trip in early spring to see even more wildflowers in bloom. If youre in the area, the Wildflower Center is a must-visit destination for nature lovers and families!

We did half the dinosaurs and played in the sand pit! He had a great time and dinos were an awesome temp. attraction. Love that they change it up so its not the same every time.

Underwhelming given the hype. There are a wide variety of oaks that you can walk a loop around, and the wildflowers are a relatively small feature, given the size of the land. The main feature seem to be the dinosaur exhibit which attracts kids for obvious reasons.

Lisa and I took our grandkids on Memorial Day to see the Dinosaurs and it was great. The line was short and we got right in. One of the staff immediately greeted us and gave each of the kids a card for a scavenger hunt, and we spent the rest of our time enjoying the trails and flowers and plants and of course, the dinosaurs! It was hot that day, and they had water stations where we could refill our water bottles. We decided to get the season pass so we can take our grandkids all year long for free. A true treasure in Austin.

May 2024 The Dinosaurs Around the World : The Great Outdoors is a must see for kids to see. The dinosaurs will be on display from May 17 July 17, 2024. The are animatronic and have sound effects. They placed in specific locations that blend with the environment. The Wildflower Center added signs on plants on the grounds that were present during the age of dinosaurs. There are also Dino Nights where when the sun goes down you can explore the dinosaurs with flashlights in hand. January 2024 Fortlandia 2023-24 just ended and got a chance to see it before it went away. The artistic fort designs were impressive and saw many kids playing on them. Not to worry it will return later this year with new designs. December 2023 Luminations is a holiday tradition at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center where interactive art exhibits become fun light displays to enjoy. This year all the exhibits were new except the popular light circular swings. You need to make a reservation to attend and can pay extra to park at the center, but if you get there early then plenty of parking along the street. The place is well organized and nicely decorated where you walk in a big circle on their grounds checking out each display. The gift shop is open and will find two places to get food and snacks where one was the cafe and the other food trucks and pop-up bar. We went on a Sunday night and It was just another great experience to walk around seeing the displays and enjoying some treats. It was not very crowded so can enjoy your romantic stroll. January 2023 The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center is located at Circle C Ranch and on this visit Fortlandia 2022-23 was going on. Every years designers create interesting fort designs where kids can enjoy. They are very creative and artistic. It was early January where wont see any wildflowers blooming but will see other plants. The place is loaded with walking trails and a place to bird watch or spot native wildlife. There is a Lucy and Ian Family Garden where kids can play and experience nature. There is free parking, a store and cafe on site.

My final stop of the day and oh how I wished it had been my first. I had this idea in my head of a small little garden and was completely amazed by what I found instead! The intentionality given to the design of this vast expanse was so perfect in every way. The mix of beauty, serenity, education, delight, peace was everywhere. The stone arches along the entrance path. The lily pond and waterfall before you entered the main courtyard where the resident owl nests. The delightfully whimsical butterfly seats and waterfall you can go sit behind in a decorated cave. The play areas for children including a shaded sand area with all the tools needed to entertain. The main garden with areas alongside that buzzed with dozens of chunky bumblebees, The architecture of the various buildings and gathering spaces meant to stand out but also blend with nature. The Texas Hill country walking paths with educational placards about all the trees and plants. The shaded seating areas along these paths providing respite from the sun as well as delightful seat swings and trees unlike any I have ever seen. The green roof observation tower. The cafe with outside seating surrounded by gardens and the delightful gift shop. The outdoor library that looked like a merry-go-round including private benches. All of it...each new discovery perfect in its own special way. I wanted to wander enchanted forever. Sit in a tree swing seat and rock gently in the lovely breeze. Read a book in the meadow while the gazillions of butterflies danced around me. If you ever visit Austin in spring while the plethora of wildflowers are blooming ..go here... wander.... wonder.... breathe deeply...enjoy immensely.

The viewing tower was neat, although people with mobility issues may not be able to access it. Most paths are brick paved or gravel. If you are pale or burn easily, sunscreen WILL be necessary as theres not a ton of shade. Lots of pictures and opportunities. A free-play area and tree swings looked fun for kids. A great balance of views and informative plaques and a great way to get outside into nature.

The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin is an absolute gem, especially during the Bluebonnet season. As of our visit on April 9th, the blooms were breathtaking, offering a picturesque backdrop for photography enthusiasts. The center boasts stunning landscapes, making it an ideal spot for a leisurely stroll or an extended photo shoot. The charming stone tower and other architectural features add to its allure, creating a tranquil atmosphere for visitors to immerse themselves in natures beauty. The $15 entrance fee for adults is reasonable considering the wealth of experiences the center offers. Additionally, the availability of parking adds convenience to the visit, ensuring a hassle-free experience for guests. The amenities such as the cafe, gift shop, and auditorium further enhance the visit, providing opportunities for relaxation, souvenir shopping, and educational experiences. Overall, the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center is a must-visit destination for nature lovers and photography enthusiasts alike. With its stunning scenery, diverse flora, and convenient amenities, it promises a memorable experience that may warrant multiple visits to fully appreciate its charm.

Twilight Tuesday. Evening stroll amongst beautiful naturalized wildflowers. This is different because the park is after hours. A couple food trucks and some adult beverage were available. My biggest complaint was a lack of seating near the food (oh! There are 3 hidden picnic tables behind one truck) and a lack of waste receptacles. I had been here previously, and the gift shop used to be a favorite. That was clearly in transition, as the gift items are now sparse and fairly expensive. It appears artwork is being featured instead of souvenirs.

I should first state I love this place. and second, that this review is as a wedding venue The LBJ Wildflower Center was everything! It was beautiful, welcoming, and a dream. Of course, flowers depend on more than the venue (you know, season, climate, etc). And there are some rules given it s a UT institution - no smoking, no shots, and entry after 4pm, specific insured caterers. But Kyra was so easy to work with, answered all my questions, and was so patient. There s the heat or rain option built in with the Great hall overlooking the fields. Tables and chairs included. And holy moly some great catering options. It was beautiful, full circle for me (I volunteered here in college and my mom and I visited in grad school - and she passed away in 2015), Texan, romantic, and just the best in every way. We could have rehearsal there as well, walk through, and a year free membership! Thank you LBJ wildflower center for everything!

I LOVE places like this, typically. BUT, you will see more wildflowers on the highway here in Austin than the Wildflower center. Seriously, drive down Capital of Texas 360 and that is 300% more flowers, and this is prime season ash the center? Weird. It is not very well thought out. Go to Arkansas Garvin Gardens and see what a well designed and loved place can be, and its half the price! I am not saying its horrible I am just saying its like a $3 dollar kind of deal if you are bored. Also, I feel like it is a place where tax money is laundered. There are a lot of building that are all off limits to public. I mean a lot of offices for this little place. How many offices to you need when you are not even taking the time to really make this place awesome? Anyways, we had a decent time but $30 bucks is insane for this place. Its a $3 ticket at best.

We went on a Thursday at the end of March and while there were some school/group field trips, it wasnt too crowded. My mom-friends and our 7 kids (all 4 and under) had a good time! Theres plenty to do with the kiddos (I would suggest maybe a stroller if you have littles) especially in the family garden area... the natural playscapes, sand pit, waterfall, fort buiding, little house structures, trails, etc. were lots of fun for everyone! The bluebonnets were gorgeous, as well as the many different types of plants everywhere that had signs and info. We easily spent a few hours here and ate lunch at their cafe, which is pretty pricey but to be expected. Their mushroom sandwich was SO good, I would definitely recommend. There is an owl, Athena, that lives near the entrance that we could barely see sitting on her nest, which was cool, and lots of butterflies, insects, fish, turtles, etc. The tower is fun to climb and overlook everything, and there is a cute gift shop as well. Oh and all of the staff are super friendly people! Definitely worth visiting for all ages!

I always leave this place feeling refreshed and at peace. The flowers werent out today, but come Spring/Summer the flowers will be at full bloom. Great place to take a date or have some quiet time alone with nature :)

Wait for spring. Until March, youll pay full price even tho heres not much to see or do. I expected to find some indoor exhibits about the center, the region, botany, or the founders. But nothing was open and the greenhouses were marked for staff only. We walked around for ninety minutes but there were only a few plaques and lots of dry nubbins and bare branches.

I think this is probably a beautiful place to visit in the summer. For winter I wouldnt recommend. Its also very much just a big playground for kiddos. Great if you have kiddos but if you are looking to explore a local garden, this really isnt the place. I dont think the pricing Im winter is accurate for what is available to view. Most everything isnt in bloom. There are lots of kid play structures and a space for kids to build their own tree fort. If you dont have little kids with you I wouldnt waste you money or time.

really enjoy the holiday lighting stuff they do. This year was kind of tough because a lot of the lights weren t working, and they seemed to reduce the total number of the slaves, but it was still really fun.

There is nothing to do here for adults for such an expensive place to visit. All flowers are dead in December & there is no shows or light shows during the daytime. Perhaps this is good for kids to spend time outside. Our visit has been a complete disappointment and the staff are not allowed to process a refund. Shame on Wildflower center, there are many nicer places to visit at no cost or little cost all over North America.

Don t bother to visit their Luminations event. Total dissapointment. There are more lights and interesting Xmas ideas in my neighborhoud than at this show . We paid 100 dollars (2 adults, 1 kid, and parking) to see 3 installations and a dark trail with lamps on the ground. Really?

Beautiful and largely Serene and peaceful spot even when theres not much in bloom. I have wanted to come here for some time and was in Austin overnight so I came out this morning. I enjoy most of my time here however I found it very frustrating that the map that they give you is inaccurate and confusing and at least one other local person told me she has gotten lost on the trails too because of the map inaccuracies. Theres some for thing thats not on the map an entire childrens play area not on the map and I ended up walking up and down the service road wandering around trying to figure out where the heck I was because the service road is not marked on the map anywhere. Then when I finally found the Arboretum Trail which encompasses half of the park its closed because of some night time event thats going on that has nothing to do with my visit during the day and the fact that I paid full price entry and would like to see the other half of the park. So very disappointed by the incomplete information poor facility map and lack of full accessibility after paying full price. Pat had I known there was an evening time event going on I would have come by last night but when I glanced online at Google Maps it said it closed at 4:00 p.m. so I would have only had about 30 minutes of time so I opted to wait till this morning. Going ahead and giving four stars in the hopes that some of the issues will be rectified with an updated Center map and decrease pricing when youre going to have large portions of the facility close to the public for reasons I cant fathom. Will try again in the spring may have to update my rating or would that be down date?, if its not any better by then. Which would be kind of sad because it serves a good purpose or could.

Brought my 4.5 year old here for Fortlandia! We had a blast. There were so many fun forts to see and play in, in addition to the always beautiful grounds to stroll through. Were excited to check out the Luminations exhibit soon. I can only imagine how beautiful the center looks lit up at night. Bring a snack/lunch to enjoy in one of the designated picnic areas. I recommend looking into an annual membership. A great deal with many perks!

For claritys sake of this review I must say that I was attending a special event there in the evening in the auditorium. It was a KUT symposium on landscaping and how we can use that to prevent climate change and adverse effects to our city with the incorporation of more green spaces, green roofs and pocket prairies along with the use of alternatives to lawns. The facility itself is quite impressive and very well kept. It has a wonderful spacious layout and a lot of beautiful yet organic feeling design work. The auditorium itself is quite impressive with its seating and ability to host a large group for the audio-visual movie presentations or for hosting a symposium type situation . The staff that was there was quite friendly and very professional and everything went according to plan and schedule. The gardens in the evening with the Twilight into darkness time was very beautiful to see also. The lighting is pretty and tasteful, yet not overly bright or ostentatious. For this special event hosting, I have to highly recommend the Lady Bird Johnson wildflower center and award them a five-star review.

This was difficult. I went in Oct of 23 . The area was recovering from a drought. There were small delights here and there. Swings on trees. The trails were well maintained but the center didn t look any better than a well maintained city park. -there were a series of plants/trees in cages? Like a petting zoo for plants. Not much fauna outside of the strategically planted trees and plants. -they did good by putting the kids areas area on the opposite side of the trail but you could still hear the kids screaming from across the park -some plant and flower life but there were large parts of nothing but hill country where there wasn t a lot to look at. -I went in Oct so admittedly there was as much in bloom as in April-September. -think of your $15 as In investment into wildlife conservation. That s what s makes the mediocrity of the trails a bit more bearable

Visit any time of year, but easpecially in the spring, best known for Texas many spectacular blooming wildflowers, especially the bluebonnet, but you will be delighted by a cast of dozens of other beautiful native wildflowers, shrubs and trees.

Go. No question. You will not be disappointed. A beautiful place for reflection, meditation, and an appreciation for all things nature and conservation. They have a really nice childrens garden and had it not been for the heat I would have stayed much longer. Make sure you dont miss out on the Lady Bird video in the Great Hall. I had no idea how influential she was on conservation efforts and love how she helped folx find beauty in wildflowers during such a dark time (The Vietnam War). Its a beautiful space and I cant wait to visit again. I even texted my friends who know everything about flowers to say they must go the next time they are in Austin. It was nice leaving hopeful and inspired.
