Randomly ended up here while walking around the area. It is well set up and has a sound system that won t hurt your eardrums so that s a plus. Our drinks were well made, by a grumpy bartender who was obviously fed up and tired of serving me during his Saturday night shift. A bartender s attitude can make or break a bar, regardless of the bar ambiance otherwise.

Saw DuMont s listed as a haunted bar and decided to stop by with new friends. Compared to the crazy activity partying on the street above, this place felt like a tucked away gem. Needed to descend stairs to enter, I can t recall if there was an elevator for accessibility. Cocktails were delicious and the atmosphere was perfect. The bathrooms were decently sized (considering it was underground!) and very clean, considering it was a bar.

We always come here every Tuesday and we usually get Negroni , its never been disappointed , stuffs are usually kind and they are always paying attention making us great Negroni . But this Tuesday night was really bad experience we had one of the bartender was super rude to us. (Who has beard )I just said hi how are you he didn t answer I asked what beers you have he didn t answer again he only showed menu he doesn t even said anything. I know that s one of great cocktail bar in Austin only one person makes everything terrible they should definitely change that thing .

The service here was actually pretty good, not too hard to get drinks at all. And the drinks themselves were pretty nice. However, my biggest gripe with this place is the lack of seating. And it wasnt just me because other patrons also were consistently scouting for a place to sit. But yeah, its nice that your ears dont get eviscerated when youre just trying to chill.

This is one my favorite places in Austin. Probably bc of my age range of friends 30-50 something. The basement stairway entrance leads to low ceiling dark and cozy space. Kinda masculine but also comfy for the ladies in heels. Standing is not awkward unless you can land a seat on one of their couches. I like that it s on 4th street where you can pop across the street to dance once the drinks kick in

I was in Austin for one night on business. Had quite a few local Speakeasy bars to pick from, and I landed at Dumonts. Can I just say that Im super glad I did. Trevor, the bartender, was awesome to chat with, and the drinks were damn good. I will be back to Dumonts next time I return to Austin!

When we first arrived we were pretty excited, the atmosphere is dark, sexy and quite appealing. Spent a decent amount of time here and we were having a great time!! Service was okay nothing too exceptional, was a pretty busy night so understandable that it took awhile to order drinks. We were ordering the same drinks all night yet each time they were made completely different based on which bartender you ordered from which I guess is pretty normal as bartenders all over the world have their own perceptions on how a drink should taste so it didnt bother us at all. HOWEVER upon cashing out I felt extremely blind sided as the bar had added auto grat of 25%!!!!!! I did not catch this until after I signed and left the bar!! We were only a group of 4!!! I am still confused as to whether this is even legal!!!! This leaves a horrible taste in my mouth and makes me never want to return here!!! No where does it state they will do such a charge so I felt really scammed!!! I typically tip service quite generously in cash so after realising that I had already been charged 25% it just felt greedy and that the bartenders took advantage of the fact that we had been drinking for quite awhile. Additionally as the night went on the bathrooms became horribly disgusting with poop explosion all over the toilets, toilet paper shrewn all about with a pungent smell and not one employee went to clean them up, which for the atmosphere and the prices they charge seems gross and rediculous! Overall we wouldnt return because the experience isnt worth it and I would suggest that you pay real close attention to your tab when cashing out because apparently they will rob you.

The perfect spot for a nightcap at the end of the day. Tucked under fourth street its often busy but never overwhelming. String lights and couches make for a cozy environment and the bartenders are some of the best in the city. DuMont s Down Low is a great speakeasy on 4th Street in downtown Austin. I have been wanting to go for quite some time and finally got the chance. Getting there around 8PM on Saturday was the move. Leaving around 9:30, the place was packed! And bachelorette parties should stay away, they ruined the vibe of the place when they got there. Thankfully they weren t there long. Go check it out!!

Found this bar when I was looking for speakeasy style bars, and just a heads up it doesnt have a speakeasy vibe. Its just downstairs and dim lit. That being said its not a bad place to stop and get a drink. They have a huge selection of whiskeys and other nice spirits. It was just a lot more rowdy, crowded, and loud than the vibe we were expecting.

I hate to bear the news, but this place discriminates against queer couples. Me and my boyfriend sat down, and the bartender stared at us unconformably for a few minutes before asking us to leave. Very rude atmosphere, and we ended up going somewhere else as it was clear we were not welcome. This isnt the first time, as last time I brought my Latina co-worker, and they treated her similarly, too. So just beware staff might be discriminatory towards POC and Queer people.

Absolutely terrible service. I went up to her to ask for some water for one of my friends. I asked her first Excuse me, can I please get a water please? but she didnt answer. So I asked the question again the same way. She then proceeded to respond with I heard you the first time, Im getting the water she then slammed the water on the bar table. I dont know if she was having a bad day or what, but this is not what you would expect from a bar like this. How am I supposed to know if you heard me if you dont even look or acknowledge my request? There are much nicer bars with much better service and friendly bartenders in the Austin area then this place.

This place is so great! However. This bartender was so rude and not very welcoming. She made us feel unwanted and inferior. Giving it 3 stars only because the gentleman that came in after 7pm was super pleasant. I had never been here before and it took over 40 min to get a drink after pointing out to one of the female bartenders that we had been waiting that long. We waited patiently for the first 30, and shortly after that a guy cut in line and ordered a long list of drinks after we had been in line waiting. I pointed out that we were in line first, mentioned how long we had waited and it was downhill after that. The bartender was extremely rude and told us that we were not waiting that long, rolled her eyes and then ignored us. Several groups who were in line behind us had left because it was taking too long to even get acknowledged. I understand that 2 bartenders during happy hour is probably hectic, but the way we were treated after being cut in front of was unlike any experience Ive ever had at any establishment. The atmosphere is nice, but its just not worth it. There are plenty of nice bars in the area. If I didnt already have friends there. I would have left after the first 20 min. Kudos for the gentleman that came in after 7. He actually treated us with respect and not like it was an inconvenience for us to be there in the first place.

I paid the deposit and the staff was looking forward to the Cocktail Class they offer. 1 week before the event, my deposit was returned to me without any warning or even a note of explanation. I asked them to please reconsider that it s our office holiday party and invites have gone out - not to mention it s very difficult to get a reservation any Saturday s in December. Turns out they cancelled our reservation bc a larger party was interested. I thought that was the reason one gives a deposit? Apparently, they will take a deposit, but it s only until something better comes along. Which is such poor form. December holiday scheduled for 18 people, private event, off peak hour and they still dismissed us and gave me back our deposit. Truly disappointing on a few levels. Messages are attached to show they had no problem telling me they cancelled our event for a bigger party. 0/10

One of the best bars Ive been to! They have a fabulous selection of bourbons, including Blantons. Not inexpensive, but well worth it. The place has a nice chill vibe with great bartenders. Good thing I dont live in Austin, because Id probably be here every day after work!

What a disappointment this bar has become. What used to be a reprieve from the boisterous rest of the downtown nightlife, Dumonts has turned to the dark side. We used to visit Dumonts for a quiet downtown getaway with great customer service. However, after this last visit, I cant say we will be going back. With loud pop and hip-hop music blasting and waiting over 25 minutes to be served a beverage, I can not suggest anyone visit this bar. What used to be a true speakeasy as an escape from the loud downtown scene is now just another trashy bar.

This is hands down one of my favorite places to ever go its got that cool 1940s vibe its underground basements. The whiskey is absolutely amazing with it with a eccentric unique great selection its always super comfortable the atmosphere is always dim and just classy musics great bartenders are super kind and amazing and very well talented and can make an amazing cocktail hands down one of my absolutely favorite bars ever
