Went there a few nights ago with my friends. Very nice little bar, a lot of drinks based on the mezcal. Even tho I don t like mezcal, the bartender, Michel (I think) been very helpful with drink choice. My friends loved it, thank you for the great service.

We are visiting Austin with my wife, it is difficult to find anyone who speaks Spanish in the bars; Mikel was an excellent bartender. The food is Tex Mex; It wasnt excellent but I didnt dislike it either. The mezcal cocktails are a delight. We will definitely return to the bar.

Was here last night. Its rare for me to do reviews but here we are. I went with my boyfriend and was blatantly ignored several times at both bars. The bartender at the wrap around bar ignored us and several others for upwards of 20 minutes. We left and went to the other bar where they again ignored us for just as long. Because we d already put our names down we decided to stay. We went back to the first bar and was ignored again so we left and went to Charlie s. This is my first time in Austin. Maybe it was a busy night (though it didn t look like it at all. Seriously) but I m not sure if this place is terribly friendly to LGBTQ people. Just a hunch.

Funny (peculiar) bar arrangements, with the menu for the cocktails only available at the restaurant next door, that this is a Mezcal bar, but other basic drinks are available. Mikel was a superb host. A mixologist, proud of his craft, he offered a special concoction of his own, after asking if, as a new customer, I trusted him. I let him mix a special drink, very fairly priced, and was delighted with the result, to henceforth be known as Scotts Drink. I told him of the legacy the Vieux Carre enjoys, first served at the Hotel Monteleone in New Orleans in a bygone era of very different social media for building upon such things. The Bar 508 Mezcalarito could, in 100 years, may well have borne such a treasure on this early September visit. ASK FOR this elixir, by name. .... or just go to enjoy a good mezcal in a simple, down home, dive bar atmosphere with friendly service, adjoining the Pelon Tex Mex restaurant, whose fare we thoroughly enjoyed in the dining room next door.

Hidden gem in Austin. This place is on a whole other level. Drinks and tacos are amazing, incredible intimate atmosphere with lots of outdoor spaces and a fireplace. I ve been coming for years and will come back next time I m in town. Shoutout to Jojo, best bartender in ATX.

What I thought was going to be a fun experience turned out to be an out of this world time thanks to JoJo! He went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed and educated on mezcal. He not only has a ton of education on mezcal and tequila, he also makes killer cocktails! This was just a few of the ones he made us that night. Drinks are a bit pricy and I would say the menu of signature drinks could be considered limited, but this place is so darn cool! The drinks are truly great and the vibes? Even greater. This is the type of place that makes Austin weird. The decor is a little spooky & cultured. The place is also comforting and quiet, you ll forget Dirty Sixth is around the corner

Driving from Round Rock just to check out this place, I was disappointed there was a large party reservation when we got there. The manager/bartender that greeted us went above and beyond to make sure we had an amazing experience regardless. I want to personally say thank you. You all were awesome and everything we drank was just as amazing! Very much appreciated!!! 10/10 Highly Recommend! Shout Out to our bartender, drinks were freaking exceptional!!!

Beer was cold but the tacos were terrible. They took 15 minutes to come out and when they did they were not even hot. The tortillas were straight out of a bag, and not heated. Any decent Taqueria would spend the time to warm up the tortillas, and the best places know to put the corn tortillas on an open flame for a little bit. On top of that way too much salt, and no salsas.

The bartender was very rude to me! I was finishing my beer. It was after 10 pm, and I can understand she wanted to close up, but she didn t need to yell at me you can t sleep here! She could ve spoken to me nicely and asked me to leave because they were ready to close up and she wanted to go home. It was uncalled for.

Sad overpriced drinks. Bar staff overwhelmed, felt sorry for them. Pretty pleasant patio and second floor bar seating. Bar staff have to make all the drinks for the attached restaurant and I think just throw together what they can to not drown under the orders. So many better places to go on Red River, dont come here.

We had a bartender that was training, but not being watched enough by the other bartender. I had the 508 and it had so much salt at the bottom of it I barely got to drink half of it. My boyfriend had the San Jose and we literally watched the bartender take the cherry out of the jar WITH HER FINGER and plop it into his glass. We just paid and left.

A friend of mine recommended this place and mention jay was a awesome bartender. I believe it was a under statement. Jay can make a killing with his old fashions. It was one of the best I ever had in my life. Mezcal was something new to me and he educated me on it. I was really happy to learn what I had learned about it. I was impressed with jays time on his drinks being that it was a full bar and a lot of the drinks were 8 plus more steps. Thank you jay for taking care of me I ll be recommending more friends and family to come see you brothaaaa.

So pretty much I sorta came here by accident. A little story. I found the bar on instagram about a month ago. Well a few weeks back I won a contest for a free bar snack, so I definitely came up quicker then I thought I was. Well this place did not disappoint. Happy hour was definitely good. Cocktail choices were excellent. Jake the lone bartender, definitely was killing it!(great personally, very knowledgeable, quick on his feet) just a awesome guy. Had thequeso borracho flaming queso with chorizo! Dont pass it up. Honestly 5 stars for this, me and my mom enjoyed and this will always be a new stop for me in Austin

Stopped by the bar before a concert and the bartender was a raging lunatic. Evidently her replacement was late for his shift so they were boisterously fighting. They left the bar to fight in the back room and the female bartender was scary mad. She accused my husband of stealing his drinks after the tall male bartender told him they were free because of her behavior. We left.

Sought this place out after seeing it on a few lists for Tequila cocktail bars. Our service was awesome, and she even charged my phone for a bit (which was a life saver using Birds and Lyft all day). The cocktails were OK. My Tequila old-fashioned was a little more sweet/flavored than I would have preferred - it didnt let any of the flavors of the tequila out. After that I got a House Margarita which was solid, and my wife ordered a Vodka-Soda which was very well (strongly) poured. Wed come back if we were in town again.

I am just beginning my adventure in tequila and Bar 508 was a fantastic start. The bartender was great and was able to provide some great recommendations. Tried a custom made drink by the bartender, an old fashioned with tequila, and a fantastic Smokey mezcal. Went back a 2nd night and Matt was my bartender. He was fantastic and made some great recommendations and was fun to talk with. Wish I lived in Austin to enjoy this place more often.

Chill bartenders, tequila choices for days, closes too early, and interesting though oddly located venue. Brought the in-laws to show them some Austin culture and they didn t disappoint. They had every tequila you can think of with a bartender there to guide you. My advice, if you re celebrating, is to go for the top shelf Dos Dragones tequila. Trust me, it ll make for an unforgettable night. Room for improvement: They closed a little too early. To embody the true tequila soul, late night hours are a must. And maybe a taco truck nearby.

Upon entering 508 Tequila Bar as a fresh Austinite, excited about the prospect of quality tequila, Crispen entered my life. He will forever be the Best bartender, the one who welcomed me into the Austin bar scene, who gave my mother and I a free margarita. I will forever be in debt to his hospitality and friendly nature, which made me realize that Austin is the Best City in the World. Aside from great bartenders, 508 Tequila has a great selection of wonderful margaritas & other cocktails, Jenga, hula hoops, an outdoor seating area with a wonderfully large tree, and again, JENGA! The best game to play while drinking. My favorite drink at 508 is the extremely strong University of Texas-themed margarita, which is bright orange and so tasty that youll want to have an endless amount (beware: the limit is two). The bar also offers a respite from the scum of nearby dirty 6th. So go here. Say hi to bartender Crispen. And prepare for your life to change forever.
