first time here and it was delicious. tried at least 7 of the sharing plates and was not disappointed. will post pics of food but most noteworthy is the parking- use valet at $12 because parking at sky house garage is $30 for 2 hours yikes. construction going on so the atmosphere looking outside is not much but the restaurant is beautiful. staff was excellent. definitely get the bread w/ accoutrements and the carpaccio. Parking: do the valet because skyhouse lot options start at $30

For its price the food is fine. The oysters were terrible. The flavor of the mignonette was overwhelming and 99% of the flavor. The wagu beef was surprisingly chewy. We got cacio e pepe which was great. Niocettie was visually unattractive but good. Its a tossup if we would come here again. Probably try another restaurant instead.

Sourdough was really good, wonderful crust drove a chewy texture with rich flavor. The yogurt butter was my favorite to the other two butters. I asked for plain butter, which was really good. Berkshire pork was well prepared, topped with nice flaked salt added a great balance. They had a moderate wine list, the diversity in the wines by the glass allowed me to pair my courses appropriately

One of the best dining experiences I have ever had. Special thanks to the GM Valentina and our server Tessa. The reservation was made to celebrate my mothers birthday, they treated us so special. They even gave her flowers and a vase. The explanation of the menu was very precise and detailed. The service was amazing and the food was decadent. Each person that came to the table, personally wished my mother a happy birthday.

Very good experience. Delicious food and they treated us first class. We arrived at the place from the Fairmont Hotel walking down the street of the containers When it seems that everything is over, this divine restaurant appears that allowed us to share an incredible time with friends and a spectacular dinner. We ordered some appetizers, then some pasta and some cuts of meat . Everything in the center to share and be able to try different dishes. Everything was very rich. To drink we tried some beers and for dessert we had some Fernecitos (until it was finished )

The pastas are incredible. I could ve just eaten multiple plates of pasta. The carnitas main was good but just not really the flavor profile I prefer with pickled squash and a bbq sauce with a little heat. The dessert was very interesting and yummy with the chocolate potato chips and ice cream something mushroom and peanut butter flavor. We sat outside with our dog and the ambiance was lovely with the music and candles. Our server was very friendly and attentive.

Innovative dishes that work well most of the time. Excellent cocktails but red wine by the glass is hit or miss. Shrimp bolognese, gnocchetti and house made bread and cultured butters are excellent. Cucumber salad is a little bland and the chocolate chip dessert is just okay. The blackberry sorbet with salted cream is amazing. Service is mostly excellent.

This will be a long review . The food was amazing. These people really know what theyre doing. They know their ingredients and are able to make truly remarkable dishes, making combinations that we hadn t tasted before. Everything was well balanced and it wouldn t matter which plates you picked it would still be a complete, coherent dinner. On a different note, we arrived at opening time, way ahead of rush hour. Our kids were very interested in how the kitchen works. The staff were very accommodating and even gave them a tour of the kitchen! They had no reason to, but they went out of their way to show them around it meant so much to them. We definitely recommend the restaurant and we will be visiting again soon.

Decided to try this place as a group of locals. The restaurant was hot and the service was not acceptable for the price of what is being served ie $15 bread and butter. We sat waiting for our waiter for over 15/20 mins. Finally some one else took our drink order and when we tried to order the bread was told we don t serve it like that and your waiter will explain which he didn t for at least another 10/15 minutes. They wanted us to order everything at once to be coursed out. None of the meal was coursed out appropriately. The ironic part was I haven t seen this much staff in restaurant in a long time, it is unclear what they were doing. The pastas were the best thing we had. And the bread when it finally came was not enough bread to even go with the butters they give you. If your down on rainy visiting this is a fine place to go But there are far more interesting and better places in Austin. We won t be back.

Went to Austin for the weekend and had this place on my radar, the location was perfect as it was right on Rainey St. next to all the bars so was perfect for dinner and fun after. The food was delicious, we had the bread service, and Cacio e Pepe, both are must try! The wagyu was also good but too much of the sauce, and it was just ok. The dessert the waitress recommended with beets was unexpectedly good. We also really enjoyed the table side experiences with certain menu items. Overall restaurant vibe and food are a 5 star, I gave 4 stars because of the service, the food was coursed but took way too long between each course, the waitress did not check on us enough, had to flag her down for more drinks and we also ordered an appetizer that we never recieved but it was still on the bill. Otherwise, I do recommend trying this place out, and I would come again when I am back in town.

Not even the cocktail program, which they execute perfectly. Its the desserts. Marrow Pastry, Buckwheat Mousse , and the Chocolate Chip. All savory sweet and so unexpected; I had to try all of them because they were just so interesting. Take the chance, you wont regret it. Honorable mention to the sourdough with butter flight. She said no when I asked for more olives in my drink. We rarely saw her, when we did and tried to wave her down it seemed like she noticed us and then intentionally looked away. We ordered champagne for midnight. Then, complementary champagne that we didn t know about, came 30 seconds after the glass we paid for did. No heads up from the waitress which made it feel like she was padding the bill. She was rude all night, until the check came when she was extremely peppy (it was over $300 pp).

The open kitchen allowed you to see the quality and care that was put into each plate. And the service was some of the best youll ever have. I will say, for some reason I just wasnt the biggest fan of the main dishes I ordered (the pork chop, and chicken). I completed each dish, I just felt like Ive had better for cheaper. I guess it didnt live up to my expectations. I didnt try the wagyu and maybe thats where I went wrong. I would love to go back again and give the wagyu a try. Strangely.. I felt like the zucchini, the snapper, the noodles, and the sour dough bread were the best parts of my meal! The sour dough bread especially!! We opted for the Texas beef wagyu showcase, which is only a few days old to the menu. It consists of a 10 course meal and the table must participate. In addition we ordered the raw oysters and crudo which were a nice addition. The meal coursing with the 2 added items was the perfect amount of food and everyone left satisfied. My favorites were the oysters on the rice crisps, the crudo and the tortellini in the beef broth, yes please - the broth alone was bathable. The service was fantastic and so were the cocktails. $12 valet available. I d definitely go back and try other items. Parking: $12 valet

Used to be our absolute #1 spot in Austin for years - went last night the service was terrible (no offer to order a drink, then drink came 45 mins after ordering, never saw the waiter again after that) and we actually cancelled the last two dishes because it took so long and our waiter never came by to ask us how we were doing and if we needed more drinks. The cacio is the best around but the new pasta dish was tried was lacking flavor and tasted like kasha (if you know what that is it s not good). Sad to say we re done with this place. Oh also I m 8 months pregnant and there s zero place to sit while waiting for a table bc they reserve bar seating :-/

Went here on a recommendation from a trusted friend and because of all the great reviews. I dont know if it was just an off night, but the food was meh at best especially for the price. We had five dishes and none of them impressed. The service was great but the atmosphere was crowded and loud. Will not be going back.

Gah. Once upon a time I ADORED Emmer & Rye. Circa 2017. Yet it is with a broken & contrite heart that I write these following words. Austin, a city that I love dearly, does not need more New American restaurants. And yes, while I understand that this was one of the OGs, it just hasn t maintained its uniqueness. The pricing is fair given the courses (despite the >$10 for a bread basket) but the tastes are nothing that I would write home to my mother dearest about. Dare I say, everything sounds better than it turns out to be. There are better places in Austin for overpriced pasta & drinks on a date night. 7.8/10.

Emmer & Rye was a masterclass in culinary pretentiousness with a side of atrocious service. The menu seemed promising but delivered little more than disappointment. The tartare, bizarrely sliced instead of the traditional chop, was a chewy mess drowned in an overpowering aioli. Interesting additions of corn and puffed rice hinted at creativity but were lost in the haphazard assembly. The Johnny cakes were a lone standout in a sea of failures, though the accompanying eggplant succotash was a forgettable mush, screaming for a splash of acid to bring it to life. The overcooked sourdough arrived with a crust that resembled charcoal more than bread, though the tallow butter provided a brief moment of redemption. The cacio e pepe had the potential to shine with perfectly cooked pasta and quality cheese, but a reckless hand with the pepper annihilated the dish s balance. And then came the beef belly a salty, overcooked abomination with a flavor profile that could only be described as bizarre. The first bite was an assault to our taste buds, prompting an immediate return to the kitchen. Service was a dismal affair. After the initial drink order, our server vanished into oblivion. A near twenty-minute ordeal for a simple drink refill highlighted the neglect, and the night concluded with an abrasive interrogation from the service manager regarding our disdain for the beef belly. The feeble attempt to placate us by waiving the charges for the beef belly and the drinks did little to erase the stain of disappointment that Emmer & Rye left. It was a disastrous dining experience, one that I d vehemently caution against.

I enjoyed the service the most here. You feel really taken care of. I like that they explain each dish in deep detail when they bring it out to you Ranking what we tried from most to least favorite: 1. Crudo 5/5 2. Tartare 5/5 - i like that there is some crunchy texture in it 3. Cacio e pepe 4.5/5 - i know everyone raves about this dish, and its cooked to a perfect al dente, but i just thought the crudo and taretare were more unique. However, this was my date s favorite dish 4. Cucumber dish 3.5/5 - the sauce was the best thing on it 4. A fish dish 3.5/5 - not worth the money very bland and basic If i ever came back here, id prob try their tasting menu instead to see if thats better

The food was phenomenal... the only reason Im removing a star is because the service was friendly but very sporadic. We had to wait 45 minutes for our first dish, and around 30 minutes for the sommelier to visit after asking for him. Then another 45 minutes after our first dish arrived, our second dish showed up but was not the dish we ordered. We ate it anyway (it was yummy), mainly because by that point we were starving! The manager was very kind and apologetic, and even offered to provide dessert for free which was very nice; but the mistakes did take away from this beautiful restaurant and fantastic food. Otherwise it was an excellent meal, and Im confident our feedback was well received to mitigate any future mistakes.

Really, really wanted to love it. Ordered 6 dishes and the seasoning on 4 of 6 were extremely heavy-handed on the salt or herbs. Cacio was great. Everything else we ordered was underwhelming or overwhelming. As for service - I don t know if it was an off-night, but the pace of food was extremely slow. The entire meal took over 2 hours and by the time the last dish was served, we canceled plans to extend our night out. We went from being really hungry to waiting for so long between dishes that fullness caught up 3 plates in. Overall, an expensive, overhyped roller-coaster ride. Disappointing since we ve heard great things!

I thought the overall experience here was underwhelming. While the service was great, the quality and portions of the plates were disappointing. We were asked to order all plates upfront so they can course it out, but even the entrees were tiny portions. There was no way to know ahead of time. We left hungry and got food after. The quality of the food didn t justify the prices and didn t compare to other Austin restaurants with similar prices/concepts.

The food here was great, but not what I was expecting. I saw it on OpenTable and the entrees seemed very reasonably priced, until I got there and was surprised. As they tell you when ordering, everything is meant to be shared but they re small plates. The small plates part is no exaggeration, they re very small. I got an espresso martini which was priced normal for Austin ($17). We ordered the Cacio e Pepe, the crudo, and Chicken (what it was named on the menu). The Cacio e Pepe was probably the best I ve ever had, but the portion was so small sharing it with my gf we both got two swirls of the fork and it was gone, which for $20 is wild. The Crudo which is red snapper my gf liked, I tried it but don t like raw fish so yeah. The chicken was chicken and potatoes with a sauces and peanuts, this was also very good but I believe was like $36. We opted to get a dessert called the Chocolate chip, which was surprisingly really good. Some kind of chip on top of ice cream, tasted like a chocolate chip cookie. All together we had 3 cocktails, a dessert and 3 small plates, our total was about $180 after tip. I will say the food was great but customers should be aware online that these are very small plates. I left and wanted to pick up food from somewhere because I was still hungry. Compared to some of the nicest restaurants in the city I would say this is place is overpriced for the amount of food you get. Also something weird I encountered is it was really hard to hear, not because the restaurant was excessively loud, but something about how it d build made it feel like I just got off an airplane. And the bathrooms are insanely hot, they feel like they were built in a closet area, with no air conditioning

There were some bold flavor combos that are sure to surprise and (probably) delight you. I took my partner here as a special date because she loves corn. Who can relate? My one critique is the service setup. Like a lot of Austin restaurants these days, you don t really have a dedicated server. The whole staff is checking in on you and it feels a bit less personal. I enjoy having a dedicated server, esp in a fine dining atmosphere. See

The food was exquisite. Absolutely delicious. The service, however specifically, the pacing was terrible. The first two courses came out practically on top of each other, before wed even received our before-dinner cocktails. (The server told us we had to order everything all at once. Ok?) After the second course, a long wait for the third. Then a seemingly interminable wait for the last course. We would have liked to have ordered dessert but couldnt afford another lengthy wait, as we had another engagement we had to get to.

There are many fine dining establishments you can visit that boast fresh ingredients and gorgeous presentation but it was the service and attention to detail that was the ultimate win for me. We had the 10 course tasting menu which featured corn and it was ah-maize-ing! All corny-ness aside everyone here was knowledgeable welcoming friendly and attentive. Super down to earth no pretentiousness here! Our glasses were never empty the table was kept clean and we had new silverware between every course. We were cold under the AC so the waitstaff even brought us blankets from outside! The complexity of flavour was astounding and very creative. The upscale play on the corn dog was our favourite course. The meat was perfectly seasoned and the crunchy corn batter was divine. I also especially enjoyed the snapper crudo with corn nuts and hibiscus broth and the johnny cake with corn pepper relish. They gave us a little menu in a cute envelope to take home as well as some yummy caramel corn to remember the experience. Thanks for an awesome time will be back to check out future features!
