My daughter has been here twice with her Grandparents and wanted to go here for our daddy daughter date. This was my first time and I truly loved the experience from the atmosphere, the service, and the food. I love the nostalgia of the building and its furniture, it feels like going back in time. This place has now become a regular spot for our family. Can t wait to come back Campo Verde! If it ain t broke don t fix it. Please keep this place as it is. I can t explain the true joy my daughter and I had on our date. I only wish we started coming here sooner!

There was a hair in my sister s quesadilla & she asked for a manager but the server took the hair off & threw it on the floor & asked if she wanted something else. Of course she didn t want anything else. He brought the check & the quesadilla was still on there, so we just paid it! Then, he said he understood if we didn t want to tip him due to the hair. The carpet smells like mildew & needs replacing. I ll never return & you shouldn t waste your time or money.

Went to the bar to order a drink and I had to wait for a bartender. While I was waiting for the bartender, WhileI was walking around the bar, I noticed that my feet kept sticking to the floor, which was carpet. I used to work in a bar and we had carpeted floors, but no one ever stuck to them. I also noticed the path to/from the kitchen was BLACK. We had pretty good service from a really nice server and the food was decent. Additionally, the train that runs through the upper part of the restaurant is down to nothing but the engine. Campo Verde was always about the ambiance, and it seems like the basic attraction of the place has been neglected.

This is definitely not the Campo Verde that was so good for the 25 years weve been coming here. Waitress took 15 minutes to even come to the table with about 1/2 full restaurant. Fajita meat both chicken and beef taste like the fajita meat in a bag at Walmart. Tasteless. Now 4 teen waiters and waitresses are playing around taking tables and chairs back and forth and laughing loudly. The mature former staff is gone. I will never return to this expensive horrible place again.*** update if you look at the 1 star reviews youll find several with the owner being overly defensive and hateful. Like a scorned ex girlfriend.

I noticed that there is a 3.00 charge to pay for your meal with credit card! I wont be back because I dont pay the business to collect my money! Those charges you incurred from taking a credit card for payment are tax deductible for you and you should not collect more. Your food has increased in price and its an insult when you dont appreciate my business! Do the right thing and remove this silly charge for using a credit card to which is what people carry over cash! Its not right and myself I will not participate. The cost of food has increased and people just dont carry that much cash around with them. Change your policy back or I wont return

I hadn t been to Campo Verde in many years. My BFF wanted to take her boys there to have the Campo Verde experience!!! Being vegan, I always look at the menu before going to a restaurant so I can figure out what vegan friendly items might be available. This is a common practice among vegans! Campo Verde being a classic Tex Mex restaurant, I honestly didn t think there would be much, if anything available. I had questions about the menu, so I decided to call ahead. I spoke to Tommy, who I assumed was the manager. After speaking with him for a moment, Tommy said I should ask for him when I arrived and he would assist me personally. Not wanting to make a fuss or take up his time, I almost didn t say anything to the hostess. I decided that because he was so earnest, I should do as he suggested. I am so glad that I allowed Tommy to serve me! To my great surprise, he went out of his way to make sure I had a delicious and satisfying meal! I kid you not! He suggested I go with the Build Your Own Bowl and we discussed which items were vegan friendly. The BYOB comes in a tortilla shell that is not vegan but when my bowl arrived, Tommy presented me with a fresh, handmade, vegan tortilla shell!!! I was very touched by his kindness and obvious pride in providing me with such an attractive and tasty lunch! My friend and my husband enjoyed their Mexican fare and her boys liked the burgers they chose. Only another vegan can understand how much such hospitality means!!! Much of the time, menus are misleading; servers have inadequate information; often don t know what being vegan means; and are put upon to obtain needed answers. There are times when even managers are uninformed. Worst of all, there is a sense that people just don t care. I give high praise to Tommy Stewart!!! I picked up his card on my way out and realized he is the owner. I wish Tommy great success with Campo Verde. If you haven t been in a while, stop in. If you ve yet to go, it s an experience you can t miss out on. If you are vegan or have a vegan friend or family member, call ahead and let Tommy know you re coming in. Tommy told me he very much wants to cater to everyone s tastes and needs. I will definitely return in the near future! Dietary restrictions: My review goes into great detail.

Came in for a close friends birthday celebration, and the food was terrible. The complimentary chips were stale. The enchiladas were so tough that you couldnt even cut into them. The cheese felt like it was melted in a microwave. The refried beans rose back up like bread when pushed down upon. The servers didnt even acknowledge us and mostly sat on their phones, even though we were one of the only few tables seated. The decor is severely outdated, and by that, I mean they leave their Christmas decor up year-round. It was probably my first and last time dining here. Not worth the $30 I paid at all.

The waiter who sat us asked us for a drink order and I asked if they had good ice tea, not watered down tea. He promptly acknowledged my request and brought me a great glass of ice tea. Another gentleman, an older fella took our order. He had the attitude of someone very un-happy with life.....but he was very good with his service. Maybe he was having a bad day? If I win the lottery, Ill buy the place and totally re-do the entrance to get rid of the smoky bar smell. Then I would see what could be done with the menu to offer some value priced items for those who dont own a bank.

The grande burrito with steak on the menu was 13.99 plus $2 for the steak. On the bill it was 19.99. Just see the picture of it in the review and see if that is acceptable to serve for 19.99. We have been frequent visitors to this place for over a decade but recently moved north of Dallas and decided to make the drive to see friends and eat there. What a mistake. Since we ve last been there it has really made a turn for the worst. Upon entering the restaurant smells like dirty wet carpet. The host was polite but wow. That smell is difficult to overcome. We had a party of 13 with a reservation and we were seated at two separate tables which is strange since the restaurant was empty. We made a remark and were moved to Candy Land on the other side of the restaurant. For starters the chips were stale and the famous queso was no more than canned cheese. The food quality was awful. Obviously store bought tortillas, reheated steak for the fajitas and the rice was room temperature and looked and tasted days old. Given the menu price increase the quality of the product has certainly made a steep decline. Sadly we won t be returning to this once famous and popular restaurant. The empty parking lot tells all of the tale you need to know.

There was one waiter for essentially the entire restaurant, food took a long time to be delivered, and wasnt good when we got it. Chips are now very greasy, Margaritas are strong but not tasty. Campo is iconic in this area. The food taste portions and prices are solid, but the real treat is seeing all the Christmas decorations and the train that rides through the whole restaurant. This place is under new management as many may know. Their food has changed alot its still good but very different than it was before. I have 2 small children that always get super excited (and over stimulated) when we come. I always tell them after they eat their food we can look at each room which they have added a theme to, which my kids love. Unfortunately the 2 times we have been since these changes have happened there has been a man working there both times (not sure if he just works there or is the new owner) that gives off the vibes that he doesnt like children much at all. Both times he has given us side eye looks and angry huffing under his breath, ect, as my kids excitedly looked at the rooms. The first time I kind of dismissed it but the second time it happened it was pretty undeniable in mind mind he was frustrated with my child literally just being excited by the rooms, they werent doing anything wrong besides being 4 and 5 years old. He refused to make eye contact with me as he was acting this way and just stared at my children. For that reason I dont think we will be returning, it was extremely rude and made me uncomfortable. Also I havent seen the train this is all so sad to me as it used to be such a cool family friendly place.

Havent been here in a long time I was really looking forward to the season chips. The waiter was good but the chips were horrible you could tell they were very stale and had been warmed up and they were not even really warm. The main course was really good the steak was cooked to perfection and juicy.I couldnt have been more happy and it made up for the horrible chips. Kid-friendliness: Kids will love the retro festive feel and the train.

In my personal opinion, this place is only good for its atmosphere. The decorations, each unique to what part of the restaurant youre in, was very unique and fun to look at. However, the service definitely needed improvement. I went with a party of 5 (myself included) in the middle of a Wednesday afternoon. It was very slow, and our waiter messed up our food order, forgot half our drinks, couldnt make the other half, and whenever we finally did get an alcoholic beverage, it was wrong too. Food was lack luster, that includes flavor and plating. Found a black hair in my first bite and my familys rice and beans were cold. The only enjoyment was the walk around the building and the train that went over our heads.

Probably visited Campo Verde for the last time. Stopped in after visiting Greens Produce around 430 pm. Wasn t busy at all and took several minutes for someone to come and seat us. I asked for limes with my water. I couldn t get ANY juice out of the lime slices brought to the table - they were SO dried up. I ordered beef enchiladas and my son ordered chicken enchiladas. The beef in the enchiladas was burnt. Our beans and rice were blah- almost tasted like they tried to spice up the beans to make them not seem like canned beans. Sone said his chicken enchiladas weren t that great either. This place has definitely gone down in taste.

Not a fan at all of the ambiance anymore, the themed areas look tacky. What s next I imagine will be the staff will be dressed as characters. My family has been going there forever, one of our favourite places until we went last night which will be our last time ever. The host that sat us at our table had saggy pants on, walked to the table way ahead of us as my grandmother doesn t walk that fast anymore. The waitress was nice but quite loud, and almost knocked my sister out while putting stuff on the table. Smoke or dirty carpet smell ruined some of our appetite. The rice was like out of a cheap box meal, the chicken in my grandmothers taco salad was so big she had to cut it, the knife that was brought, looked dirty and had been a bit melted on the handle. The salsa tasted like cold chilli as my mom described it, I just didnt like it. When my sister tried to let the manager know the smell ruined her appetite due to the smoke from the bar, (which we never noticed before) the manager really couldn t care less. My sister tried to give a heads up so they could do something about it, overall, I think the main thing to do would just go back to the way the old owner ran it, cause people liked it better even if it was just for the ambiance, and what they are trying to do now is just plain tacky.

First the food & service was good. The lights are still there. Cheese sauce still comes with the chips. The train is down to just the locomotive. Gone is the wide variety of Tex-mex dishes. Enchilada plates for dinner are found under the Lunch menu. Appetizer nachos are bean & cheese only. If you want the old ones of chips, cheese, diced tomatoes & jalapeños you have order no beans, add tomatoes and jalapeños for $1.50 extra. How is it a small ramekin of jalapeños are $1 extra? The American food offerings now take a whole menu page - at a Mexican restaurant. The guy next to us asked what beers are on tap. None. How about the (previously extensive) list of bottled beer? Nope. Only 3 beers in stock. Apparently out of tequila too judging by the margarita I ordered. Two enchilada dinners, one cheese nachos appetizer, two house margaritas = $62 before tip. This iconic restaurant that we have visited since the early 1980s has lost its way. We used to bring our kids for the fun; folks from out of town for the atmosphere, the libations, and the wide choice of good food. Oh, and the couple next to us after looking at the menu left before they ordered any food, saying it had changed too much.

About a month ago we went, and things had improved. We went again yesterday, and it is now back on our rotation. The menu has changed a bunch. And that may be what the doctor ordered. The old is gone and the new is here. I had Caribbean Jerk Tacos. Very tasty. And the service from Greg is always great. Bean and cheese nacho price a bit steep but tolerable. It took a while, but I think its on the right track for recovery. Well be back!

The food was sub par and nothing special. The environment definitely makes this place special. The chipotle shrimp appetizer on cabbage was good. Chips, salsa, and queso brought to the table. The fried cheesecake looks like a big egg roll but reminded me of a toaster strudel. Options of raspberry or caramel for the fried cheesecake

You used to go here and it felt like you stepped back in time to a old cozy Christmas movie but now theyve replaced all the lights with new bright leds and took down most of the original nostalgic decor that made this restaurant very unique. They also changed the salsa and cheese dip! These simple things are why so many people come here. The food quality and service are also slipping greatly. Ive got to say lots of people are greatly disappointed in the changes, Change it back while people still care!

Drove 45 minutes for the decorations and was surprised by the food. Came to this place pretty ravenous, which led me to order the arrachero, or skirt steak. This dish is interesting in the fact that they completely coat the meat, onions, and peppers in melty shredded cheese. The portions of this meal can easily feed two people, but its important to note that it is one of the most, if not the most expensive meal on the menu, so this should be expected. Anyways, the delicious smell of this meal penetrated through even my sick-person nose. The meat is beyond delicious. Its nothing like your average skirt steak. The steak pieces were huge and so unbelievably tender. It took lots of willpower for me to stop consuming it, even knowing that Id feel terribly sick if I overate. This is one of the best steak dishes I had, and its definitely the best dish Ive eaten at an American-Mexican restaurant. Whenever I go to a place with Mexican and American food, I have seen in the past that they usually offer up the same stuff in general. Chips with salt, a watery salsa, followed by an entree along with the common rice and beans. This restaurant stood out however, because they season their chips nicely and somehow make them crispier than average. Plus, their rice and beans are more flavorful and the rice offers a really enjoyable texture. Overall, I would absolutely make the long drive here again just for that arrachero. PS. The owners several-paragraph strongly worded clapback to somebodys bad review shows as the top result in the review section on google. I understand the frustration, but I worry that seeing such a thing will turn away those considering going to your restaurant. Oh well

Since the Owner wants to chime in and make it seem like a ran out on my bill, lets get the facts straight! I was polite enough to ask and speak to your unprofessional manager away from guests as to not make a a big deal out of our horrible experience. We did NOT eat the food therefore we do NOT pay for services not rendered... Wow... Did you playback the cameras. You saw me looking perplexed about chili powder being on the chips. Im surprised you failed to mention a table full of food left behind including the horrible chips... I feel I wasted my time, my money, and my gas by coming to this place!!! The decorations looked like they were put up by a 5 year old and some of them didnt even work. Most importantly watch your step because the floors are full of grease and very slippery... The food is mediocre at best; Taco Bueno would be a better choice.. While were at it, this place needs to invest in some new chairs and tables. As they are a throwback to a rundown bowling alley from the 80s... And dont even get me started what appears to be ADA violations for those who are disabled like my mother; specially the bathroom!!!
