The food was really good! I just moved to Texas from Puerto Rico and the food here is really close to the mainland. It s even better than some restaurants in Puerto Rico! The most authentic puertorrican food you can find in the area!!! It s worth the drive and the service is always really good!!

I ordered 1 Mofongo with Carne frita, 3 Alcapurias 2 Maltas india for 40.00, it was near closing time. I thought that was expensive but food was very, very good. I traveled 20 minutes to get there and it was worth it. I must mention Cashiers should get a paid better so they dont ask for a tip at the Register. Cashiers shouldnt get tips thats not right!

### Review of El Mofongo Caribbean Restaurant Excellent Puerto Rican food. The mofongo is very good, as is the churrasco. I prefer the churrasco to be more tender, but its good. Next time, I m going to try the carne frita (fried pork) with garlic tostones. I give El Mofongo Caribbean Restaurant a 7/10. I hope to reach a 10 when I return to try the garlic tostones with carne frita and other dishes, as this is the closest to the best Puerto Rican restaurant I ve tried. Additionally, I must highlight the quesito (a Puerto Rican pastry), which was delicious. The pan sobao was very soft, which is a plus, but it needs to be sweeter to match the true Puerto Rican pan sobao.

Im from PR and was looking for some good authentic flavors. The sorullitos and alcapurrias were pretty good, but the rest of the food was pretty disappointing. Maybe I went on an off day, but the meat was tough, the rice undercooked, and trifongo just tasted like sweet plantains. Sadly I traveled for one hour to eat there, but we wont be back again.

HUMILLIATING!! The mofongo, pork chop and rice were cold and tasteless. When I brought it to their attention they replaced the rice with a freshly made one, however it had no seasoning or any of the ingredients that make it arroz con gandules. The server explained to me that because persons of certain religions do not eat pork they omit this key ingredient from the mofongo or arroz con gandules. Its like going to KFC and the chicken has no skin because some people dont eat the skin, really? The SINGLE pork chop was burned. They do not give you a glass of water when you ask for one, they sell you a bottle of water. I guess that because it was Monday at 11 am there was no fresh food but rather reheated left overs, including the tough fried chicken. There were 2 of us and neither one of was happy. Ive read other reviews that give them 5 stars but today it was a zero. I do not recommend this place.

As a Puerto Rican who also cooks Puerto Rican cuisine, I was a bit disappointed with the flavor of the mofongo. It lacked seasoning and garlic. I ordered the mofongo with carne frita; the carne frita was good but a bit tough to eat. We also ordered sorullitos de maiz con queso, which were disappointing as well. The relleno de papa was very greasy to the touch before even biting into it and remained so after the first bite. Overall, I was quite disappointed with how the food was cooked. I typically cook with sofrito, and the beans I ordered didnt taste like sofrito was used. I hope they can improve the flavor of their food, as we need more Puerto Rican restaurants in our area to stay in business.

Very interesting food, reasonable prices. We had a group of curious people trying a little of everything, since it was all new to us. We enjoyed the food a lot. However the restaurant was poorly run. It was as if a bunch of inexperienced teenagers tried to open a restaurant and didnt know how it worked. When you call the restaurant, no one answers the phone, and they havent set up their voicemail, so you cant leave a message. 15-20% of the items on the menu were unavailable. No menus, by the way - only scans to the phone. All of the items have Spanish names. When we asked our waiter to describe or explain to us what any of them were, he was completely unable to explain ANY of them. Nor would he ask someone who knew, to answer our questions. We ordered a soda and 5 waters. The soda was a can, and the waters were bottled waters from Aldi grocery store. We ordered 6 appetizers. We received 3. They came out 1 at a time, delivered in 3 installments over a 20-minute period. 3 never arrived. When they brought our entrees, we cancelled the other 3 appetizers and learned that they had been given to another table. They brought Ranch dressing & Louisiana Hot Sauce to our table in bottles from an Aldi grocery store. The bottom line: good food and a great way to introduce your palate to Puerto Rican/Carribean dishes - delivered by rank amateurs who have no idea how to run a restaurant. Maybe a good candidate for ordering and picking up or Door Dash/Grubhub etc.

The mofongo with skirt steak stole the show, a symphony of taste that transported me to Caribbean bliss. The sides danced on my palate with a zestful rhythm. Yet, what truly crowned this gastronomic fiesta was the staffs amigable vibe a warm embrace that made me feel like part of a comida familia. With every bite, I pledged allegiance to El Mofongo, a destination stamped on my map for future cravings of Caribbean delight. ¡Volveré, sin duda!

Very expensive food, I asked about the special and I ordered chicken breast with garlic, it came with white rice (dry, long grain), beans (dry, too thick), 3 tostones (mega thin), an avocado (hard because it hadnt ripened yet). Within the special there was also the onion steak, my husband ordered it and came out with the same thing. He had the same impression of the rice, beans and avocado... when I arrived the girl who charged me was sitting at a table talking to another and looked terrible as if I had interrupted them. When I went to the cashier to pay, everything came out to $50.86 Yes, the special is 20.00 each dish and it does not include drinks, I was scared by the price and I told the girl, how much is the special and she answered: 20.00 each Thats what they gave me and I was amazed. I paid for them and when I walked out the door he screamed with laughter. There were only 2 people eating in the living room. It was empty and the place looks very bad, it stinks very strongly like humidity. I remember going several times in the past but it didnt look that bad.

Visited this place several weeks ago, kind of disappointed me and the group... The mofongo was no good... texture ok, but the flavor was nothing like a good mofongo. It tasted like one garlic clove in a full gallon of water. Also, the pernil was very cold in the inside and hot in the outside, which makes me think it was just reheated from the day before... and the Pollo AL ajillo normally comes with butter and garlic.... the one we ordered came more like pollo a la criolla... taste no different than the mofongo... Finally, the sorullitos were good, and the mayo ketchup ok.

By far one of the best authentic Puerto Rican restaurants in Texas. Dont let the small facade fool you. The food is amazing. The owner Manuel and his mom Doña Soco are some of the most beautiful people Ive met. 10/10!

The food was very bland and we did not like it at all. We liked the sorullitos until I found a hair in it. We ordered 3 plates and the sorullitos which came out to about $75. Pricey and not good food. The wait was about 15 mins which wasnt bad. I wouldnt recommend going here.

Simply Amazing. It has authentic flavor. Nice serving size. (Not for the fainted heart). For the size and flavor, the price is really decent. You wont find nothing so well prepared and authentic outside of Puerto Rico itself. Last but not less important.... the service was great. The ladies helping you out are super friendly and makes you feel like if you at their house. Great service! Great food. Photos: 1. El Antojao (Skirt steak and shrimps on mamposteao rice. 2. Fritongo with chicken pork rinds and fried meat.

It is very hard to find an authentic Puerto Rican restaurant let alone a good one, and this is one of the best I ve been to in the US. The food was cooked perfectly, such great flavor, and such a good size portion. A few more bucks than your typical Chili s dish but way more quality for your money and absolutely worth it. Staff was incredibly nice to my wife and I. As frequent visitors to PR we really appreciated all the artwork of El Morro!

Authentic and delicious. Always worth the 40 drive to have such a great meal. They are also very willing to work with me on my dietary restrictions that Im unfortunately burdened with. Fried plantains are good. The mofongo is so good. Id rather have that than potatoes anytime. Heck, every time. All in all, I highly recommend you check this out for an authentic taste bud travel experience. You will be happy you did. Dietary restrictions: Very willing to work with you. Parking: Tight and usualkt busy, but dont let that discourage you. Wheelchair accessibility: Easy for those that may need. Plenty of space

Tried this little gem for the first time recently, very good food. A little out of the ordinary for my usual tastes but you gotta change it up from time to time. Definitely worth a try if you re curious about Caribbean food.

The service was excellent and the people were very nice and helpful. It was a nice quiet restaurant. This was my first time trying this type of food. I didnt like it much, but I believe that is preference. Therefore, if you like this type of food, it was a nice place to go grab a quick bite.

We came after reading the reviews and had great expectations. Sadly it wasnt like the reviews are saying. The customer service its good and the place looks clean. I had carne frita with mofongo and my husband pernil and mofongo. The carne frita didnt have any flavor and it was super dry. The onions on top had more flavor than the meat itself. The plate had a lot of oil. The mofongo also needed more seasoning but it was ok. The pernil it didnt look or taste fresh, it seemed to be from the day before. Also didnt have any flavor. I think overall the need to put more seasoning and also come up with a house sauce for the mofongo like in PR. Didnt have the puertorican flavor that you want!

This location unfortunately has really gone down from service to food. We waited to be seated and server ignored us. The best times was when the owner and mother were there greeting guest and taking orders. They are the ones that make the restaurant amazing.
