Just west of Amarillo at the Bushland exit on the south frontage road you ll find Pippy. Fun little stop for a quick photo. No parking, just pull over into the grass. Cadillac ranch is a couple more miles up the frontage road. Was fun to see this cutey!

Can someone tell me where I can send a check to get Pippy an umbrella? Dont know why but this penguin is the one thing that really got to me, it just sits there for years and watch everyone drive through the highway, no matter the weather, alone in the field. Can we also add another penguin next to it? Visited on

My mom loves penguins so this was a must on my Route 66 journey. No area to park per se unless you go off on the grass but no one is around so I just stopped in the middle of the road and took a quick picture. Hes in a field behind a fence. Just fun to see.

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND for Pippy the Penguin Pippy the Penguin is a tourist attraction located west of Amarillo and just west of the well-known Cadillac Ranch. The history of Pippy the Penguin, as far as it has been reconstructed, began generations ago. It is a treasured family heirloom with scores of family tales surrounding its transfer of stewardship through the generations. Each new steward of Pippy the Penguin safeguards the legacy with tender care. While there is certainly an associated stipend, the extent of the pecuniary endowment is unknown outside the succession of stewards. The appellation Pippy the Penguin is of relatively recent origin. Unconfirmed rumors link the name to the ancestral matriarch, Philippa of Lancaster. This unsettled family attachment does, however, gain credence in the light of the generous stipend. The current steward has munificently shared this precendently sequestered objet d art with the public. The family requests the proper demure respect, an approach far different from the spray-painted desecration of other nearby attractions.
