Being a local, Ive been a customer since this restaurant opened. As such I have watched it go from a new exciting place to eat, to an establishment in steep decline. This lackluster humdrum performance originates from the top down of course. And their ill concerned unethical so-called managers seem bent on propagating the dysfunctional malady. The quality of the food also seems to be suffering as a result of these issues. And this in an extremely competitive Mexican restaurant market. Mexican food establishments are a dime a dozen around here now days. Very easy for a potential customer to go elsewhere. And that is precisely what they are doing. While they do still retain a couple of kind attentive servers, for the most part their staff seems increasingly unprofessional and appears to lack drive / interest in doing their individual tasks well with any degree of precision and politeness. Which is directly attributable to poorly executed managerial techniques. A few examples: As a customer it is difficult to be positive about the experience as one waits at length for a drink to be refilled while observing staff grouped up preoccupied with their phones, joking and talking to each other. This (as well as similar issues) has been noted by me on more than one occasion. It is not reassuring to think about safe food preparation while noting things such as the consistently unpoliced restroom facility for instance. Additionally, I have often noticed several issues related to uncleanliness throughout the restaurant. Any observant person (customer) can clearly see this building is in dire need of a deep cleaning. And should receive that on at least a fairly routine and ongoing basis. Question: Is the corporate brass really going to sit by and watch this brand go away? Because that is exactly where it is headed in a big hurry unless rapid changes arent made. Side note: Issues such as this tend to make one wonder just what city health inspectors are doing all day. Is that city service / entity really needed? Given the job they are obviously not doing along with the fact they are taxpayer funded, I say possibly not. I am considering a call to their office with questions. Maybe I can stimulate some renewed focus. I do like OTB and so would be very disappointed to see that happen. However, I am discouraged by the current sad developments. Again, is anybody at the helm at OTB, and if so, what are they thinking? Guess Ill have to take my business down the block to one of the many other Mexican restaurants from now on. Update: A service manager (no name) responded (below) to my above review by providing a link in order to discuss issues further. However, the provided third party link doesnt work. Which is emblematic of the overall condition now at OTB. Ill assume their response is a move designed only to try and save face on this review page. One can excuse the occasional inapt incident. But when those instances become the norm, a much broader problem exists. My party typically orders drinks from the bar, appetizers, dinner entries, and occasionally, even dessert. Not just sitting at the bar milking chips, salsa, and a beer. Our bill is always over a hundred dollars + tip. Suggestion: If OTB truly cares about their business, customer satisfaction and continued patronage they should resolve their issues. My observations are not bias, difficult to understand, or unreasonable. And again, my motivation isnt to obtain a free gift card, but rather to encourage corrective action. Bottom line: I like OTB and enjoy being able to go to this location. My only motivation is your success and longevity. Simply put, if issues arent addressed, my support wont be possible because the house will be permanently closed down!

Came for a tourney for my kiddo and had to come to OTB. Haven t been to one in a long time. Food was good, margaritas were great, BUT the service? EXCELLENT. The manager, JR went out of his way to ensure everything went well. Kid-friendliness: Very kid friendly spot. The menu is catered to them perfectly.

It was not a busy evening and we were seated promptly. The music was very loud and drowned any conversation we intended having , as it did with the waitress. Tuesday evening 6:15pm, drove into parking lot to see about 6 vehicles- not very busy. Walked in the door, noticed the music was too loud- asked waitress to find a spot where music is lower volume. Sat us under a speaker, again I asked her to lower the volume to this speaker(since they have done it on previous visits). She left to get drinks, another lady approached table to check on us, I also told her the music was too loud. Drinks were delivered and she claimed to have lowered the volume- I did not notice any difference. As we were giving the waitress the orders, The waitress asked us at least 3 times to repeat our orders because she could not hear us. I finally walked around to find a table not near a speaker- I told the manager if she could not lower the volume to forget our orders and we will leave. I told her I did not want to eat at Joes Crab Shack(the loudest restaurant I know-and have not been back to in years). Me and my guest would like to talk to each other instead of yelling across the table. The manager working stated the volume could not be lowered due to new Management(District) wanting a lively atmosphere. I could see this sitting at the bar, but not on the other side of the restaurant sitting in a booth next to the window. They were not very busy with customers and just lost another one due to loud music- maybe thats why some other customers are not returning. I got on my phone to search for other Mexican Food restaurants in this area, found one a couple miles away. Got the same food for just a few dollars cheaper.

My family of 3 went on Cinco De Mayo, they were only about 2/3 full. The service was terrible, we ordered queso and they brought our bowl of queso with no chips. The queso sat on our table for almost 10 minutes before they brought chips (we politely asked 3 different times for chips). By the time the chips came, our queso was cold, we asked for it to be warmed back up. Server took queso, was gone for another 10 minutes and said it was put under a warming light. The queso had dried on top and was still cold under the dried, crusty layer (we tried to stir it up and make due). My husband asked the server for a new bowl of queso and the server said he would ask his manager but they probably wouldnt bring us a fresh bowl (we hadnt even ordered our food yet after almost 30 minutes). I was over it at that point, I told our server we would be leaving and we did.

I received an email for the Mesquite Grilled Trio starting at $10.99. Sounds like a great deal. IT WAS HORRIBLE!! The chicken was the size of my fingernail and the soft taco shell was cold, rubbery and tough. It was a fine experience, there was a bit of miscommunication throughout the service. There were nine of us, and everyone wanted something. So yes, it got a bit hectic for her. She was very patient and dealt with the older folk just fine. Bar was a bit slow for not having anyone in the restaurant. Arrived at 2 pm and placed our orders shortly after arriving. We were in route to a funeral and had a limit amount of time to eat lunch. I had noticed that several tables that had been seated after we had placed our orders had both ordered and received their meals. At 2:40 pm a young server came and asked if we would like some more chips and salsa. I asked him to check on our orders. A few minutes later the server came back with chips and salsa. He informed us that our food would be out soon. I asked to have togo boxes and the bill so we could make it to the funeral. A young lady came out with the bill, but became very hateful when I inquired about our order. She claimed that they had server issues and basically said it was our problem. The young man who must have been new took our credit card and gave it to someone who was a manager. The so called manager came back to our table with my credit card and the bill and said as he was walking away sorry for the delay. My wife and I have enjoyed eating at On The Border locations across Texas for over 20 years. Today was the absolute worst service we have ever received at an On The Border. . The food was great. To bad we were not allowed time to enjoy the meal at the restaurant. We had to wait several hours before we had a chance to enjoy our food. I don t blame the servers, the issue with this location is poor management. During the time we were waiting for our orders, we kept watching a young child coming and going in the kitchen area.

I dont know what happened to this place. This used to be the poppin place in allen about 10 years ago but it slowly seemed to fall off. My experience here is always a hit or miss. I remember one time i came here to pickup catering for Christmas eve and the bartender was being crazy. He getting into people s faces yelling merry Christmas and giving them hugs also running outside to smoke and then crying on about something. Clearly had to much fun that day.

We were going to eat dinner here a few days ago (Sun evening), but when we walked in, no one greeted us at the hostess stand (even after several minutes), the hostess stand seemed to be strewn with clutter (memus, rags, pencils, markers, etc tossed about), very few tables were occupied, but we never saw any staff. Gosh, I wish I could give it the 5 stars I would have back in 1998, but their service has taken a nosedive. The atmosphere is, well, to be desired. There were a couple of lonlies in the bar pretending to watch sports blasting on one of the many TV screens, but thats no knock to the establishment. Our first impression was they must have been incredibly busy since nearly every table was uncleared but remembered only a few cars outside. We were seated in an awkward booth next to the kitchen giving us a behind the scenes look that we didnt elect for. I always order the chicken bacon fajitas, which never disappoint, however the mesquite steak had a whang. Our server was in training so things were a bit slower than normal but we were in no hurry. The floors were slick, like grease, grime or film. No one seems to care anymore, or have pride in their job. I wish places knew how to keep the passion alive.

However, Ive been a long time customer of OTB, and this location has some of the best bartenders (shout out to Taylor, thank you!!) in the company. My family has been frequenting On The Border in Allen, TX since the Plano/15th location sadly closed. We love it! We have lunch here almost every Sunday and sit in the bar. We consistently see the same patrons visiting OTB which we enjoy. Reminds us of the old TV favorite Cheers, where everybody knows your name! Service: Bartenders Taylor and Katie are attentive, personal (which we love), and provide positively outrageous service. We are treated like family each time! We never have to wait for a refill or extra salsa - yum! A++ Menu: Our drinks are cold (beer in frosty mugs) and the food is fresh and hot. We recommend ordering queso, homemade tortillas, and whipped butter for starters. The Guacamole Live is also amazing! Love the Create Your Own Combo menu section. Our favorites are the soft beef tacos + rice and beans. They have the best taco meat we have ever had, hands down! Border Rewards - Be sure you sign up for this program. You really do get rewarded! Great food and amazing service. This was our first time and the person who served us was beyond amazing. She was kind and welcoming. Food was great as well. Last night my husband and I went out to eat at this location, and we had a horrible experience. We both had stuff floating in our drinks. My guess was that it was soap scum/mold. I told him I thought that something must be wrong with the ice, because it was in both our drinks (I had gotten tea and my husband had gotten Dr. Pepper). He brought us back drinks without ice and said that he told the manager and that they had comped our drinks. Management never came and spoke to us. By that point, we were both very grossed out, and neither of us really ate our meals that we had to pay full price for. I wish we had left after the second contaminated drink was given to us and just went somewhere else It was a complete waste of time and money. We will not be going back.

I came here with my family the other day to treat them to a nice dinner hoping for a good experience. Unfortunately our waitress, Brooke, was terrible. She came to our table with an attitude and half of our food orders were incorrect. The service was also very slow and she didn t pay attention to us at all. We would have to wave down other servers just for refills. Terrible experience I will not be coming back here and would not recommend.

She was really rude and we almost never saw her, we ended up having to get someone else to refill our drinks because she was avoiding us. The food was good - I gave only 4 stars because the service was OUTSTANDING and it exceeded everything else!! Wesley was amazing - super friendly, attentive, accommodating, GREAT SERVICE and always with a genuine smile and an evident presence that translated to genuine care and concern! So great to encounter a young man that is working hard and doing an amazing job to make the dining experience of the patrons he encounters an enjoyable and satisfying experience!! The food did not disappoint! I loved the veggie quesadilla!! The atmosphere only got 3 stars because it was quite chilly on a day that wasnt extraordinarily warm and thus we didnt feel it warranted such a cool temp inside. Went on a Monday for lunch and it was empty. We were sat immediately and given chips and salsa. I like how everyone gets their own salsa bowl. I went in to have dinner after a long day. Mark, the bartender was attentive to all others except me. I asked for ice to go As he stated , i heard you the third time. Customer service is customer service. We all have to be committed to serving others. That is The Who we are if you serve the community. I was really taken back at the fact of the service that i received was substandard as the community have to know how to serve. I am a devoted person to leaving a great tip but i could not leave anything for the substandard service I received. Going forward it we great for on the border to Provided training and inservices and what is appropriate to say to a customer and how to treat those in the community. It s not about me, but about us all. I thank Mark for his service , but not only does his service matter. We all provide service. With a practically empty restaurant, we had to wait quite some time for a table. Once seated, our waitress was very dry and not the least bit friendly. Almost rude. We ordered our food, it came out in a reasonable amount of time. However, my chicken torta came out extremely cold, and the kids meal was hardly edible. We had to wait long periods of time for chip refills and drink refills. It will be a long time before we return.

This place has gone downhill over the past year. Every time weve come (about once every 2 or 3 months) the service has been slower and worse. Ive seen multiple people leave without ever getting service. Have had multiple incorrect orders as well, but there was no chance to send them back because it is sometimes 30 minutes after getting our food before we see another server. The food is still good, which is the only reason Im leaving a 2 star. I dont intend to visit this location in the future.
