Got together with my two friends at Mexico Viejo Bar & Grill. It was my first time to visit this.place and the food was great service was excellent and atmosphere was.very warm and friendly. I recommend it. Thanks to all staff for . enjoyable evening.

First time at this Bar a Grill, the food was lacking in flavor, the waiter that took my order wrote everything down and still forgot half my order after being reminded once they still had to come and ask again what we didn t get. The place wasn t busy so that wasn t the cause for forgetting half my order. By the time we got the rest of the our order our food was cold. The food is over priced for the little amount you get on your plates. Over all experience including the food is nothing to go back for which is why I m giving it one star.

The food here is really good. The service is terrible. I would recommend taking your order to go. The first time I went the waitress was overwhelmed and did not even know what went into the cocktails-the cocktails that she was tasked with making. I seriously considered hopping behind the bar to make drinks for her tables. The second time I went I specifically asked about the Special. It was an enchilada plate for $10.99. When she brought me my check it was full price. I just paid it and left. It wasnt worth waiting another 20 minutes to get someone to correct the bill.

Probably some of the best Mexican food Ive ever had, I cant stress how wrong all the negative reviews are. Extremely authentic and pretty on the inside, and the waiters are so sweet and treat the customers amazing. Do NOT believe the Negative reviews theyre all just objectively wrong. (One of them said there was limited parking and theres quite literally a easily accessible parking lot that can hold around 20 cars) 10/10

Do not eat here. They had bad reviews when opening and I tried it back then . It was ok, not great . Tried again today a year later and now I know why there was 1 car at dinner time . I ll be surprised If I don t get sick from the few bites I had . Chili relleno was cold and rubbery . The foil container was cold meaning they refrigerate it then Just poor hot cheese on it . 1 bite of beans was all there was , and spit them out they were soured . Rice cold and tastes stale . Chips taste like old grease . This place needs a visit from the health department asap! Poor food handling for sure ! Improper temps !

I havent eaten a Mexican food place ever that was as bad as this place. I ordered a taco salad. It was half full of liquid that was milky looking. It tasted terrible and looked awful. My friend ordered a combo plate and said the tamale was gross. It had green sauce on it. The portion of beans was literally about a spoonful . We couldnt eat it. Table service was bad as well. It took forever to get the food and even longer to get the ticket. I hope that if this place is a chain, the other places are better because if they are anything like this one, the doors will be closed in no time. Dont waste your time.

Not really that good. Salsa and chips were good and so were the refried beans and rice. The cheese enchiladas tasted like Velveeta wrapped in a tortilla. I couldnt finish them even with hot sauce on top. Maybe I didnt order the right thing but I dont think I will be coming back for a second choice. Sorry. Not recommended with even 3 stars. Ive been to all sorts of places that serve tacos and this place was the first time in a long time I had been reminded of the authenticity of Mexican Street Tacos. They werent fusion, they werent TexMex, they werent CaliMex in Texas. They are the real authentic taste of street tacos from Mexico. Glad to have found a place like this that exist in Texas. You come here for the amazing customer service and the margaritas! Family owned restaurant! The bartender knew exactly what he was doing and the staff was just great! I felt like I was home. If I could give them 0 stars, I would. My husband and I sat down to eat. The chips and salsa were gross. The chips had a stale moist flavor. The salsa was very bland. We both ordered the carne asada. When it arrived they had forgotten the jalapeño my husband requested. However, this didnt matter because the whole plate tasted DISGUSTING. The meat had a rotten taste to it like they had left the meat out on the counter all day and night. The meat had definitely gone bad yet they served it to us anyways. We both didnt eat more than a bite because of this. The rice tasted like they pulled it straight out of the garbage and put it on our plate. Mexico Viejo Why do people lie in their reviews? I do not know. Some people want to help businesses by saying nice things or exaggerating their experiences. Perhaps they think they are helping the employees or the economy. But what about the customer that relies on reviews to visit a restaurant? I read several great reviews and decided to visit Mexico Viejo. I was deceived. We arrived at 4 pm, and there were only two other tables with customers. One of those tables was already done with their food, and their plates and empty beer bottles were everywhere. Our first impression was that this was a messy place with dirty and sticky tables. The waiters watched the movie Cars from a corner table while swapping their phones. The beans, rice, and pico de gallo came right away, and two things happened: One, I burnt my hand since the plate, I assume, was put into the salamander, and I was not informed. Second, we realized the pico de gallo was old; maybe that is intentional to honor the restaurants name: Viejo. We order the molcajete. That was the first time I saw beef, shrimp, and chicken mixed with chorizo and cheese. The combination is mouthwatering and delicious but greasy and unhealthy. I wish I had known about the mixture before; that is my fault for not asking. Our meat was burnt, as shown in the picture, and soaked in grease. Our waitress was the only one serving the tables while the others continued sitting at the corner table, watching the movie and their cellphones. Based on this experience, I would not recommend this place, and I have zero plans to return. The people lying in their reviews have created a monster!

This place was ok. But nothing more than that First of all, there was hardly anyone in the place and they kinda acted surprised when we walked in at 7 p.m. on a Monday. Waitress did not know anything. I specifically asked her if my cheesecake burrito had rice and beans in it she said no. So I asked for a side of rice at $3.25 and guess what? My burrito came out with rice and beans inside it. Totally screwed up my dining experience. Queso was delish but maybe 3/4 of a cup for $6.99?? WOW Salsa and chips good. My GFs stuffed Pineapple was delish she said and was the star of the show. Also, it was 8°-10° to warm in there but we are in the middle of record, or close to it, heat. Not sure I would give this place another try since they would not take my side of rice off and still made me pay for it. And I had to ask for another beer after she visited the table and mine was obvisouly empty. At the prices (mid$-high$) and the lousy waitress I cant imagine this place being around long.

I typically wont post a bad review. But here is the rundown. We sit down at the bar. The bar ended up being sticky. I asked the waitress for a wet rag so I could wipe it down to watch she replied IDK. Right here is when I should had left. The owner was the bartender and pretty sure he should not be in the industry. He couldnt even adequately make his own drinks as described. My wife ordered us their queso and specified that we wanted steak. Our queso comes out and it is the chorizo not the steak as per requested. The owner tries to tell us chorizo is Mexican steak. He finally gives because telling us we should had ordered steak( we did. We said steak 3 times). After the exchange I just felt completely disrespected. We threw down 25 for our overprice syrup margaritas and left. Please dont waste your time here.

I really wanted to rate Mexico Viejo higher, but I just could not. Really, a 2.5 star rating would be best at slightly below average. First off, the good. The margaritas are strong and go down smooth. The skillet queso fundido with chorizo had amazing flavor and was bubbling when it came out. The tortillas were a little thicker than you usually get in West Texas. Its more of a southern tex-mex tortilla, which I actually enjoy better if its a good tortilla, and these were. The tortilla held up well and had a nice chew factor (do not confuse this with chewy). The tamales were obviously homemade and tasty, and the green sauce on top was also really good and flavorful. The beans were also very good with a different spice combination than you normally see in West Texas. Next up the Ok??? I ordered a combo plate with a taco, burrito, and tamale. The crispy taco had a weird, almost minty flavor to the taco shell, but the actual taco meat was delicious, and veggies were nice and crisp. The other, huh? Why? was my burrito. As you can see, it looks more like a soft taco. Maybe this is the way they do burritos, and if it is, Ill know for the future. The salsa was also different, and Im still undecided on if I liked it or not. Now the bad. My biggest pet peeve is charges on card transactions. Especially when the charge is not clearly displayed. Be aware there is a 4% charge for any card used. My problem with this charge is that it assumes there are no charges to take cash. This, however, is not true as you need to have a trusted employee count and deposit the cash at the bank by hand. This takes time IE labor costs. Additionally, there are operational costs in running the risk of incorrect change being given, employees skimming money out of the till, or the risk of counterfeit bills. All of these are hidden costs to doing business in cash over cards. However, business owners only view the transaction fees from card vendors, so it is easier to assume there are no costs with cash. This also factored into the rating I gave.

This place has mediocre food for too high of a price. The seating is not very comfortable. I ordered the Fajitas Jalisco. The beef was tough. The food was bland. The rice was dry and the portions were small and unsatisfying. There were 3 shrimp . I finished my meal and moved to the bar for some more drinks and shots. Nobody came to ask me if I wanted anything. They have a bar but no bar tender? I waited for quite a while and just got up and walked out. The guy at the bar helped us and we ordered takeout, he was very friendly and made sure we were comfortable while we waited. It was a simple restaurant and cute. We ordered fajitas and birria tacos. Ok first of all they are a bit pricey BUT when you try the food... the price is not bad at all! This is top notch Flavorful food straight from Mexico, i mean who orders burgers in a Mexican restaurant and expect good out of that?! The meat is straight grade A cuts and season to perfection on the Mexican food. This is not fast food so as might as well come in and have a beer/cocktail and enjoy true Mexican food! All other places I have gone to in the area is no Bueno in comparison. Highly recommend if you know real Mexican food, not tex-mex

This was the worse place I ever ate in my life. The ower is rude in very unprofessional. He argues with his customers and says hes going to call the cops because he didnt want to remake a drink that the customer did not like. The smell of the place from the outside was horrible as well. If you want to eat a place that values their customer rather than the few dollars it would take to remake something dont go to this place.

Went for dinner around 5pm Friday evening they where not busy yet. Ordered drinks the owner was the bartender and he could not figure out how to do a beer Rita finally just told him do it with Corona. Our waitress was amazing they started bringing out our food first one order was chicken and shrimp didnt get the shrimp kitchen wanted to argue with that waitress had it right. Then the kitchen tried to say we got our beef fajitas and we didnt. Mind you this was dine in. Then I alway always check the menu for what is in anything Im about to eat so I ordered a burrito pretty simple stake rice cheese sour cream, not what came out got stake rice and Pico HIGHLY allergic to onions. Send that back to the kitchen they argue with the waitress and sent it back out to my table. No tortillas for the chicken fajita that was supposed to be chicken and shrimp. At this point Im over it ready to go the owner is blaming our waitress when it was his kitchen will not be going back. There are to many good places in town to get drinks and Mexican food. Over outraged with the owner and the kitchen. Definitely over priced for horrible food and no liquor in their margaritas.

The food was decent the rice wad over cooked with no flavor. We couldnt get drink refills in a timely manner. On their sign it has a free drink if you use I buy Abilene however they had no idea how redeem it or what to do. Not worth the money go to abuelos, taco casa, or taco bell. This place was okay, the rice was dry beans were dry some. I didnt care for enchilada sauce. I just didnt like the over crowding of the staff. Id like to eat in peace. With two little ones, I felt as if kids made a mess or dropped food on the floor. Theyd look at if as if I was supposed to clean it up. I felt rushed by Staff to hurry up! And eat. As much as they stopped by the table. Customer service, yes! Is valuable. But let us just sit and eat in comfort. Just felt too, rushed to eat and hurry up! And leave. They had Mt anxiety bouncing, off the walls. With two toddlers, then the staff it was too much. Food just wasnt well made for my taste buds.

Absolutely the worst Mexican food I ve ever had!! Chili on the enchiladas and Chille Rellenos gave me instant heartburn! My husband s beef fajita meat was so tough he couldn t eat it( sliced with the grain not against for a better chew)!! Rice and refried beans tasted like they were from cans and bags! Worst meal ever!!! I love Mexican food and have a cast iron stomach except for this place! Never again! Don t waste your time or money!!

As someone who comes from Mexico I was very disappointed to see a restaurant claiming to be Authentic. THIS IS NOT AUTHENTIC MEXICAN FOOD!! We started with the Queso Fundido and didn t get any further before we decided to leave. Queso fundido IS NOT white nacho cheese . None the less this is what you should expect .I was quite disgusted with the false advertising. The prices where outrageous in comparison to other places in the area. Would definitely NOT RECOMMEND

Friend and I decided to try out a new place in town and were definitely disappointed. Waitress right away said that bartender doesn t get to the restaurant until 4:30, to which I specifically called ahead about an hr prior to coming asking about drinks and bar and no one mentioned that bartender isn t available because I said we will be coming shortly. Secondly, it was obvious that waitress wanted us out as she took my unfinished drink and kept coming to get more stuff including signed receipts off the table as we were trying to talk and enjoy our time. As we were leaving family of the restaurant owners were in a fight with their kids and yelling outside. Place seems sketchy.

Food was excellent!!!! Waited 10 minutes before I got impatient and asked the other waitress about our table. She took it upon herself to take good care of us even though we were not in her section. Will definitely be going back and making sure we sit in the right section this time.
