Its not every day that you come across something as wonderful as a Mexican restaurant of this caliber. Ever seen the Key & Peel sketch where the guy cant get over the complimentary continental breakfast at the hotel? Well, thats precisely how you will feel at Abuelos. Yeah, Abuelos. I can feel the saliva forming in my mouth just thinking about placing my mouth on my Abuelo. Delicious. Get some, eat some, drink some. Eat so much mexican food that I started speaking Spanish. Todos las chicas gusta me cuando Im eating that Beulos. Highly recommend. No joke. Being serious. Eat here or take out

Server Aryanna did an outstanding job. Made sure drinks were always full and made sure we didn t need anything else. She did not make us feel rushed about placing our order and answered our questions without hesitation. Very outstanding service. Big shout out to the cooks in the back as well. Food was covered in melted cheese to cover up that it was flavorless - had to slather with salsa to get any flavor. Chili patas were merely instant mashed potatoes. Was really looking forward to eating a good lunch but was disappointed in the end. We got to the restaurant 15 minutes after they opened , got seated quickly, and sat there for 25 minutes without anybody acknowledging us. It resulted in us walking out at 11:40 unfortunately so I can t review the food. As a server myself, I understand when things get backed up and busy, but the restaurant hadn t hit the lunch rush yet and a simple have y all been helped? would ve made a huge difference. Hoping for a different experience if we go try it again in the future.

The food was great, the waitress was amazing but the hostess was a B. She needs to check her attitude. When people go into restaurants and need to be seated by a hostess, they should be a little more pleasant. The hostess is the very first person the customers encounter when going into a restaurant. They are the beginning of your experience. If the beginning of your experience is bad then people may be more inclined to have negative opinions about everything else. I did not but some people might. Next time Ill probably just order through doordash so I can avoid the negativity.

I would love to give a shout out to my waitress Alyssa Terry. She was amazing with her service. My mother is older and she had such an amazing spirit with her. She didnt rush us or seem annoyed. She was very patient and she was very kind. Whenever my mother asked a question she replied very nicely. Most waiters will get annoyed but Alyssa took her time with my mother giving her recommendations and kind replies. My mother had a great dinner for her 72nd birthday. I would love to thank her for making my mothers birthday special and putting a smile on her face!

What a beautiful restaurant. We truly enjoyed the atmosphere when we first walked. Everyone enjoyed their meals, chicken fajitas, steak fajita salad and the tirmasu(sp?) cheesecake absolutely delicious. Our server was outstanding on our refills and checking on us. Love the hot sauce here! You get 4 different ones but I love the original. Very tasty and not too hot. Cheese enchiladas are good. My one complaint is the toilet paper.....I didnt know they sold 1\2 ply. It is so thin and paper like it is pretty much worthless unless you use enough to stop up the toilet! Seriously, get better toilet paper.

This place gets a 10 for atmoshere ! Service- well our waitress put her thumb in our salsa by accident. Instead of taking it back and getting another,she wiped her thumb on her apron and sat it on down on our table... Right in front of all 6 of us!! We could not believe it but decided to stay because the food is good good good. We sat that salsa in their plants. She brought 4 of our orders. Ten minutes later,she brought the other 2. The silverware had stuck on food from the last persons meal ( hmmm ,they had a nice green salad of sorts I see). 3 pieces of silverware in all with food chunks. We showed her. She looked irritated ( she was busy. The place was packed as usual ). She changed them. So,I mean- wow. Dont know anymore how to rate this place. Bathrooms were perfectly clean. I mean perfect !!! Smelled amazing !!! Hey Abuelos ,let your janitor clean your dishes and serve the food. That way we know the dishes are clean !! And if their thumb does go in our salsa,i can bet you 50 dollars its a clean thumb!! Lol !!! I dont know that Im ever coming back. Maybe never.....

The service and drinks are always incredibly slow, but the ambiance is good. Food is not the best in Abilene, but not awful. You really go for mood not food now. Portions are huge so a date could share almost anything on the menu. Dont go for a lunch meeting if you have an agenda after. While on vacation I took my husband here for his birthday. His first visit to any Abuelo s and I had not eaten at an Abuelo s in quite some time. Neither of us were disappointed at all. Even though we were there on a weeknight I made reservations anyway. So glad we did. There were quite a few people waiting for tables when we arrived but we were seated immediately. Once seated, our server, Mike, was at our table in no time at all. He was fantastic! Very attentive, very personable. We thoroughly enjoyed being seated at his table. We had taken the opportunity to look at the menu ahead of time and knew what we wanted - at least from the bar. We ordered one El Jefe Margarita to share. It was a lot! But totally delicious and refreshing. We also ordered the guacamole as an appetizer and the Fajita Trio for our meal. Oh. My. Goodness. We had more food than we knew what to do with and it was all so very tasty. The beef and chicken were very tender and moist. The Yucatán barbecue shrimp had a fantastic flavor. Since it was my sweetie s birthday we got the Dulce de Leche cheesecake to take home since we were totally stuffed from our fabulous meal. It was a great evening all around. I m so pleased we chose Abuelo s for a special birthday dinner. Thank you Abuelo s, you re the best! We re on the hunt for other locations on our travels. The Durango Burrito is so good. I like that it isnt a huge portion of food. The enchiladas are really great too. I have never gotten anything that wasnt really good! So far, this is the is the best Mexican food in Abilene!! Parking: There are plenty of parking spaces. They are very busy all of the time. So come early or late so you will not have to wait. We havent been here in 2 years and had a coupon so decided we would give it a try as I like their chile rellenos and their spicy roasted salsa. My hubby ordered the chicken fajita chimichanga. I have to say everything we ordered was absolutely flavorless. No spice in anything. My hubby couldnt even finish the chicken chimichanga because it was so flavorless, the chicken and everything about the burrito had no spice or flavor. My chile relllenos which are usually good were bland as well and the Mexican rice and beans both entrees came with were a disgrace, no flavor at all. The roasted salsa was bland and no spiciness at all which was disappointing because it was our favorite spicy salsa. Not sure what happened to Abuelos, maybe an off night but so disappointing. We wont be back.

Went to Abuelos to celebrate a work promotion with a friend and co-worker. The food was awesome plenty to go around we ate till we were full. We ordered the queso appetizer and then the fajitas for two. Along with two Dr peppers. The appetizer was excellent the cheese sauce was perfect. Our host was an awesome person. She checked on us through the entirety of our dinner, and that is a huge plus for me, service was prompt and good.The fajitas were on point the shrimp was amazing the steak was great the mixed vegetables to meat ratio was perfect. We couldnt finish the whole thing which was a good thing. I do recommend anybody wanting to eat authentic food to come to this awesome place. There might be a 10-minute wait but believe me when I tell you it was worth it. Will definitely return. I only rated four stars for atmosphere because it was a little loud and there was a lot of people on a Thursday not much the restaurant to do about it except maybe build another restaurant :) will recommend to anyone that wants a decent experience at a modest price. Vegetarian options: There are plenty of vegetarian options available on the menu and they all look delicious. Dietary restrictions: There was a dietary restricted menu as well for those that couldnt eat certain foods for whatever reason, I find this truly acceptable and amazing. Parking: We parked about four rows away from the restaurant it was full but it wasnt on the other side of the complex. Kid-friendliness: I did notice they had high chairs. Wheelchair accessibility: There was a wheelchair accessible ramp available to enter the building and exit the building.

Abilene has very good restaurants and has others that, due to their history and the length of time they have been established, are very popular. Grandparents is one of them. When you arrive they serve you Chips (which I dont think are made there) and 4 different types of sauces, very tasty by the way, but if you are one of those who looks for spicy, then no. The cheese is very good. And now...the food as such...didnt impress me, its not bad, but its not at the level of its price either. Very overrated. Can you go to eat? Of course. Are you going to have a good time? Of course. Would you come back??? Maybe if someone invited me, by their own decision it would be unlikely. My advice, go yourself and enjoy your experience.

We miss the Abuelos that used to be in our home state. They closed. So when we travel through Texas, we always make a point to stop. Todays meals were excellent. Love the chips and salsa and queso! We ordered the red sangria on ice and it was so yummy. Our Enchiladas and taco and guaquamoli were all very delicious. The restaurant was beautiful. The service was wonderful. Definitely recommend and will stop again if we travel through in the future.

Me, My sister, Best freind, and Girlfriend got sat in Madison s section and she helping us with litterally everything so fast. She was so funny and easy to talk to, best time I ve had with a server in a while! Thank you Madison enjoy the big tip, you def earned it!!

I picked this place because it was listed as one of the best in Abilene for Mexican food. 1st the ladies up front took my husbands name and # and withing 3 min started calling out a different namewhich was close but still not his name but kept pointing at us like we were not listening. We had the sampler for an appetizer and they also bring out a dish with 3 other salsas with chips which I truly belive if the salsa is no good then do not order. I should have walked away. The nachos are served on half taco shells which were way over cooked and hard except under everything which is super soggy and chewy for some reason. I was brought the wrong type of chicken nachos but being one not to complain (usually) I instead told the very nice waiter it was fine and I would eat them anyway he did offer 2 times to take them back before I tried them and once when I had tried them and ultimately sent the whole thing back and did not eat anything. It didnt taste right. He was truly the only nice thing I have to say about my experience. Except the chips were decent not overly salted or greasy. My husband was nicer than me and ate his food even though he was not happy about his meal either. It was overcooked (fajitas) and he said tasted different. I have lived in Texas my whole life and this was truly the 1st time I ever had to just rant on a Mexican food place and I am sorry to others who like the restaurant but I can definitely say I will not return or recommend.

Got catering here well over $400 when I picked the food up it was all neatly STUFFED in a single box I asked the manager MELISSA if she could put half the items in a additional box and she declined me I asked what will happen if the box breaks and she nonchalantly said once the food leaves the premises it is not there responsibility I was appalled and also a bit taken back after some back and forth i realized MELISSA was unconcerned and was only there to give the bare minimum i walked away feeling defeated and unvalued and sure enough the box CAVED and the catering fell right to the floor!!! as i begin to pick the food up off the floor I decided to stop and snap a picture because this could and should have been avoided MELISSA gaves this restaurant a bad name i will not eat here where i dont matter
