After driving several hours to see the museum - we found it closed! A small sheet of paper taped to the window showed that it was closed on Saturday! The recording when we called the main phone number, mentioned nothing of the closure. The Facebook page mentioned nothing of the closure. The website mentioned nothing of the closure. It Only when you arrive will you find the doors locked and be apprised of the change. Not very considerate of patrons and very disappointing. My wife was an elementary teacher for 30+ years and the daughter of the city librarian. She knows the authors, illustrators, and award winning books. She has read them to many hundreds of childern and this was to be a high point of our trip. It would be an understatement to say were bummed. Please improve your public communications.

This was a really neat place for the kiddos to see the art from books that they had recently read at the library. And you can purchase their books in the gift shop as well.

We loved this place. So relaxed, so just chilled out. The way this is laid out you have all the room in the world and you can just mosey around and enjoy the art. We got to see a retrospective of the centers exhibits. So amazing this is a jewel. Also the gift shop has many signed editions for sale. Highly recommended.

Oh my gooodness this park and the sculpture walk was awesome. We were in town on a misty/rainy day. There were a few groups of people out enjoying the sculptures at the park and strolling the streets. Abilene downtown has a neat feel. There s fun boutiques, hat shops and a Texas Novelty store. The Paramount Theater was playing Its a Wonderful Life. I mean come on

A really nice little (free) museum not to be missed! It spotlights a childrens book writer/artist with original art. The bookstore is wonderful too! There are also b/w photos of previous spotlighted writers. There are also really great childrens book statues outside of the museum to enjoy.

This was such a fun experience! It is another hidden gem in Abilene. The NCCIL features the original art work from one childrens book illustrator each quarter. When possible the illustrator comes for the debut of their art work. You get the opportunity to see their art with the story book near by. We had a great time! Admission is by donation only, and the staff was very friendly and helpful.

This museum and the trail of childrens sculptures (including a Dr. Seus) that run through the downtown make a perfect stop for the whole family and/or art/literature lovers. The museum features the illustrations from a childrens author and tells the stories of how they came to be. An attached art area offers some hands-on art opportunities for your littles (or you), and the attached bookstore offers many signed copies from authors who have been showcased. While there is so much for big kids, we took a toddler and a college student and had a blast. Hope to go back for a longer day of exploration.

The only reason I didnt give it 5 stars, is that its rather small. However, it is quite nice. On Saturdays, they have a Family Art Activity(1-4), its free and fun. My daughter absolutely loves the entire place, and exclaims loudly when we pass it. You should definitely check it out. Well likely end up as Saturday regulars.
