We stayed overnight on our way back home to San Antonio after two weeks in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Our campsite (I think it was site 25) was huge and level. The bathrooms / showers were adequate. We wished we had more time to explore the park, but we had a timeline to get home. There is a large geocache inside the office and a little free library just outside the office entrance

Mostly a list of amenities: Trails well maintained, bathrooms clean, staff is friendly. Has covered picnic shelters. Camping sites are mostly level with minimal to no sticker plants, (kids can play without fear) newly paved roads and concrete pads are nice and fairly level. Many are big enough for motor homes or big rigs. There are plenty of picnic sites with grills. Water is potable. Has horse trails and equestrian camp sites, dogs are allowed, but not in swimming areas, I believe. disk golf, fishing, swimming, boating (as long as there isnt a drought). Playgrounds. kayaks for rent. I understand they have fishing equipment for use or rent. I dont fish, so not sure which it is. There are a couple of piers, one is lit at least part of the night. I go to bed early, so I dont know if it is all night. Sells ice and firewood in the park, and has a gift shop for souvenirs and t-shirts. Also participates in Jr Rangers if you have kids. Lots of birds to hear and watch. When they bring back the Ranger led night nature walks, take advantage of it to see some cool things. There are occasional ranger lead activities on the weekends that adults and kids will enjoy (ever thrown an atel atel?) As with any park, bring your sunscreen, bug repellent, watch for snakes (dont walk through unmowed areas). The only snake I ever saw was a bull snake (non-venomous). It was cool to watch. In the summer it gets HOT. So drink lots of water.

Very Very Clean swimmable family lake with a lot of shallow spots to chill. Stop at the beer & all drive thru barn first. Duhh. Lol. If you are driving from cross country or even just cross Texas itself and its 107Degrees outside, this is a mutual have to stop for sure. Instant relief. Instant cod cold Coldwater to Crack open a cold one and breathe. If you followed all instructions right, smash my like button after with yer cheers picture and where youre from or traveling to. Enjoy, drive safe! I drove straight thru35 south from Wisconsin to Minneapolis then home to San Antonio, Texas. So this spot is heaven 4 sure 107 no a.c. yeah that was us August15th, 2024. Playground: Big playground new equipment for kids to plsy, well kept grounds. Active boaters. So a lot of funwaves Toilets: Impeccably clean Dog-friendliness: Loved it here Picnic area: Nice table, trees for shade or pavillion.

Very nice, well kept park. I was really impressed by the bathrooms. Clean, maintained, and not full of bugs and spider webs (Im looking at you Caprock...). The camp sites are spacious, the water pressure from the spout is great too. The lake is awesome, and the fishing pier was very nice. All in all, a great park that I will definitely be returning too.

Experience was okay, they dont let dogs on the beach part and they must be in a collar at all times, seems a little strict for a state park, lake water was enjoyable tho, alot of wasps as well by the ramp area and picnic tables, if ur just looking ti go soak up some summer sun, than its a decent spot Playground: Alot of spider webs and spider on them Dog-friendliness: Must b on leash and can not swim at beach part, only ramp side (which is super sketch)

This is a very nice park. We really liked the layout - basically a bunch of small circles with 6-8 sites in each circle. We visited one bathhouse near our site and there were two toilets, two sinks and two showers. Picnic table has a nice overhead cover and there was a fire pit. Short walk to the marina area - we visited during the week and the Park was almost deserted. We are not Texas residents, but as a Veteran I was able to get a nice deal on a permanent Texas State Park Pass. I am also disabled but to get the discount, you need to show a disabled license plate, have it reflected on your drivers license or have a copy of your disability letter. The Ranger we interacted with was professional, very knowledgable about the area gave us some good tips. This could be considered a DARK PARK, there are no lights anywhere in the Park except at the bathhouses (this is in the campground area). They do warn of snakes and yep, we saw one as I left the bathhouse. Keep your best friend on a leash and close by. We camped at Lake Arrowhead State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Warning if you dont like spiders (like me) DO NOT ATTEMPT TO VISIT THIS PLACE! THIS PLACE HAS EVERY KIND OF SPIDER AND THEYRE PROTECTED! BROWN RECLUSE, BLACK WIDOWS, HUGE HUGE HUGE WOLF SPIDERS, SPIDERS ON TOP OF SPIDERS. WE PROBABLY LEFT WITH A HUNDRED OR MORE HIDING IN OUR RIG. Otherwise, this place is cool. But nope, spiders, and one night we ran into a rattlesnake. Nope, nope, nope, I will never ever ever visit this place again. They asked us not to kill spiders. I was freaked out the entire time because they were everywhere! These spiders are about the average size ones! Please, men, consider those in your family who have a fear of these things. It was the most uncomfortable week Ive spent in a long long time! Spider lovers, youll love love this place!

probably great for camping, but the playgrounds were AWFUL! paid $15 to drive through, look at the playgrounds, realize they were terrible & covered in spiders so not usable, then left... My grandson was very sad! Playground: playground equipment was from the 80s, covered in spiders, not kept up, couldnt let my grandson even near the slide or swings.

RV sites were awesome! Large, level, and clean. Fishing was good (husband caught a crappie and drum). Hiking was not so great. Trails are pretty exposed to the sun and theres just not much to hike to. If you just want to meander through a field of wildflowers, then you will be fine. We swam in the lake. The water was not clear. Another reviewer recommended wearing an old suit because of the red dirt, which we did.

Another Texas gem. Of all the state parks we have been to in the US, Texas parks have been the most impressive. Texas parks are well cared for clean, and the lots are spread out. This is no exception. The park is adding cement pads to the RV spots and they are large lots. They sit in cul-de-sac circles and are well spread out. You wont be looking in your neighbors window. Water pressure was acceptable and electricity was clean. Another TX state park worth visiting. Wichita Falls is a short 20 min drive. And if you want great BBQ Texas Underground BBQ is amazing. The Texas brisket is as it should be...Amazing and the Pork Belly Burnt Ends are spot on. Go, enjoy a great stay,

We went and camped a week or two ago, so late March. The campground were absolutely lush with soft green grass, felt like sleeping on a mattress. We booked online for two nights and on our drive there we got a call from the check-in people to make sure that we were still coming so they could have everything printed out and ready for our arrival. Every interaction we had with the staff was friendly and hospitable. Campsite was pleasant, weather was perfect, not a whole lot of scenery but the lake was pleasant and everything was green. The bathrooms were very clean which is always a joy.

This is a hidden gem in October. The park is quiet, nice for relaxing. The lake is low at present but we did see boats out and people fishing every day plus the weather is great! Low to no humidity in the mid 70 s during the day and mid 40 s at night. Abundance of wildlife (Deer, owls, coyotes). Lots of Mesquite trees and large cleared areas for tents. The RV spaces are great because they are large and flat with some drive through spaces. The downside is no park store, and one bathroom with showers. But if you are looking for a nice place to have peace and quiet, this park was great for us!

UPDATE - Thought Id give the park another try. This time they were resurfacing ALL the roads. Between the dust, asphalt and tar smell, road closures and huge heavy equipment... the experience was terrible. Its great to improve the park, but close it if the work has such a large impact on the campers. Very clean and well maintained. Due to high water levels, half of trails are closed. There are water only tent sites. The RV sites are water and electric only. There is a dump station. If you have a boat, this is the park for you. Fairly large lake with boat launch and swimming area. I gave the park two stars due to the quality of the electric power. When I went to unplug to leave, my surge protector had been fried by the parks power supply. Camper is ok but the $200 surge protector is shot. We were in site 22. Use caution.

We called before hand asking if we could bring our horses and ride their trails. They said yes at anytime so we loaded our horses on the trailer on a very hot day, drove an hour just to get told we needed the horses papers when we got there. This made me very made because I have papers on them but they didn t mention that I needed to bring them with until we have already drove there. They would not even accept a picture of them. This is very poor business on their part and horrible professionalism. The lady at the desk was not very nice about it either. I will not go back. I do not recommend either. Don t take a big trailer either it s definitely not set up for trailers. Awful business and non professional staff!!

I dont usually give five stars to a park that does not have full hookups, but this park in an exception. We spent two nights there mid-April and thoroughly enjoyed it. The campsites and surrounding walk areas were very nicely manicured and trails were mowed so you could hike with a smaller chance of getting into pesky critters and still enjoy natural surroundings. The paved circle has paved campsites and covered picnic tables are on a cement base along with a fire ring. They have areas for boating and fishing with all the amenities. We had no trouble getting and maintaining Verizon cell and cable service. Would definitely recommend.

Its a pretty decent park. The lake isnt the greatest, but theres not much they can do about that. The park has a nice disk golf course and some walking trails. Theyre not really hiking trails, just easy walks. Theres hardly any elevation change in the park at all. There are plenty of campsites and the staff keeps the park clean. One of the picnic areas has a lot of prairie dogs, so you have to be careful of their holes. They have a small playground by each of the two picnic areas with a slide and swings.

Nice place to visit and the pinwheel camping sites are easy to get into. West Texas is not my cup of tea. Trails are okay but I ended up with two flats on my bike. All the land looks the same. Very little wildlife. Will not go back and head east to the pines. Nice camp site for 1 night.

Great park- camp sites and restrooms are well-designed with plenty of room between sites. Showers are designed so room to change, hooks to hang towel, and hot water. Reasonably priced, full hookup $30. It was November so we could call day of arrival for a campsite. Park is also easily accessible from 287. Highly recommend we wished we could have stayed longer.

We LOVED our trip, it was the weekend getaway that we needed. I wish there hadnt been a burn ban in effect because we were really looking forward to the campfire on a cold night and to use for cooking. However, it was definitely windy, so we understood of course. The bathrooms and showers were clean, the sites were well taken care of, there were plenty of dumpsters for trash at the end of the site groups, covered picnic tables, paved driveways, plenty of space between the sites, a wonderful hiking trail, and pleasant staff. We are already planning our next visit in the Spring. Toilets: Clean, warm when its cold, and clean spacious showers Dog-friendliness: Lots of space to walk your dog and they have to be kept on leashes.

Visit this park quite often due to closeness to home. Spots are all very nice and very comfortable. Good place for the kids with plenty of things to do like swimming and trails to ride/hike. I enjoy the peacefulness of an off week day.

Very quiet campground. Loved the covered picnic table at our site. Also had a firepit/grill, but could not use it due to the fire ban. The lake also offers swimming, boating and dishing (which you do not need a license to do.) The front office/Shop has plenty of trinkets and thing to make your trip more enjoyable. They also offer juinor ranger bags they loan out for the younger kids. Would definitely camp there again.

Fishing is incredible here. Nice fishing pier with lights for night fishing. Our favorite part was they loan out poles and tackle. Great place to tent camp. We camped in the water/electric sites usually meant for rvs but there was everything we needed. There is no shade in those sites but we knew what to expect, and if you need shade you can reserve the water only sites. There is a great area for swimming, and they have kayak rentals and loaner life jackets. Clean restrooms/showers that are attended to quickly when you ask the office.

Ranger L at the Ranger led events was a doll to work with. We didnt catch any fish, but lots of people were. Liked how much yard there was at the campsites. Playground: Metal slide, metal monkey bars, and swings with no shade or covering so be sure to check the temperature. It was clear skies and hot while we were there, so we didnt even venture to the park. The swim area is okay, the beach is longer than normal and water is low due to the lack of rainfall, but nice due to it being mainly sand. Lots of picnic tables that are covered, lots of charcoal grills, and restrooms in swim area, as well. The playground, boastslips/fishing area, and fishing pier (lighted at night) arent far from the swim area. Theres also a kayak rental kiosk at the swim area. They also have a disc golf trail, but it was riddled with ants. Its nicely mowed and well marked, but not shaded and lots of ants. Toilets: Not the most modern or nicest, the ones by our Campsite had windows in the shower area that were able to be looked through and were a little too easily accessible for our liking. Dog-friendliness: Dog friendly. I just think theyre not allowed in the buildings. Picnic area: An abundance of tables and charcoal grills. Most of the tables are not shaded, but are covered.

Very nice and mostly clean. It is not a clear water lake but great for the area. Camping sites are maintained and mostly close to the water. The beach area is mowed. I would recommend water shoes since there is stickers right up to the water. The boat ramp is busy at times but runs smoothly where you dont wait long.

This state park of Texas is a gem. We have never been here before and had I known more about it, we would have stayed more than one night. It is well laid out, easy access for all sites and you have a very large site with picnic tables and a shelter and is grass. The roads are paved so very little dust. The bathroom was very very clean and the park ranger I spoke with was knowledgeable, friendly and you could tell he was proud of this park. I highly recommend it if you are in the Wichita falls area

Amazing place to camp. Water and electric spot was large, dark, quiet and not super close to the neighbors. Bathrooms and showers were clean and well maintained. Lake was beautiful. Lots of playground equipment and picnic areas. They just installed a kayak rental station by the swim beach. Great prices and easy to check out and back in all the needed equipment. Perfect place to spend a week or a night.
