The Star of The Republic Museum is closed down due to renovations. They told me the museum might open back again at the end of 2025, but better to call or check the website to make sure they are open. The Independence Hall and the Barrington Farm still open to the public.

Drove up from Houston today to tour another historic site and collect our usual souvenirs. I called ahead weeks ago to make sure they had patches, and thankfully while I was there I got to meet the retail development manager and he gave me a lot of guidance about which sites also have patches. I ve included pictures of the souvenirs because I never see this in the reviews and I always look for them. I was also excited to see they had retro felt pennants unfortunately $20 was a little too steep for me right now but maybe next time. It was raining pretty much the entire time we were there but my 6yo and I had a nice walk on the trails. Most of the buildings are were closed but the outdoors were still lovely and the walking paths weren t strenuous at all. I do wish they had a magnet in the gift shop that specifically said Washington-on-the-Brazos but we were happy to get our patch and some stickers for our collection. Looking forward to coming back on a drier day

We were vacationing from Florida exploring all the presidential libraries in Texas. On our way to College Station we stopped at Washington-on-the-Brazos because we were enjoying learning about Texas history. This is a must stop if you enjoy history. The period, working farm and the tour of Independence Hall was fun.

While updated since my last visit in the 1960s during Texas independence day I explained to my children Texas history , Mexican rule verses Texas home rule and American verses confederate . After the worthless speech of Preston Smith I hope advertising will be directed towards the true history of the advocacy of Sam Houston to be independent of the falsehoods of Mexico City vs. Washington d.c. we should do better than the enemy that subverts the will of God and refuses to accept human frailty.

This is where the documents for the independence of Texas were signed and the capital of the Republic of Texas. The visitor center and an adjacent building are being reconstructed. The Barrington Plantation living history farm was beautiful. We will definitely come back for their events, especially as it expands. Really looking forward to returning! Do not go here! A few minutes till 5pm there is an elderly woman who went around screaming and yelling at everyone that the park was closing and she was going to lock everyone in. When we questioned a State Park employee about this Karen, he said that she would lock us in because she is That mean and even he didn t cross her. Whoever this woman was made the end of a relatively good day horrible. To think that she is this bad and employed by the park is reflective on the atmosphere of the employees. Save your time and don t go here.

Beautiful and well kept park. Can easily spend the whole day strolling through the trails, visiting the museum and learning a thing or two from the living history area. My favorite part, while simple, is the etched glass artwork on the trail when you look through and match up the existing gateway pillars that remain from a home that was there in the past, and see the hustle and bustle of what life could possibly have looked like so long ago. Weve also been to this location for Haunted Trails. That was a good time! Even though weve been, we look forward to doing it again! Toilets: Very clean and stocked Dog-friendliness: Always keep your fur babies on a leash! And please pick up after them! Picnic area: Can sit on the tables or the lawn. Either way, the environment is great.

Celebrating Texas birth at Washington on the Brazos has-been on our bucket list a long time. To start, there were no shuttles as advertised, so we were worn out by the time we walked from the last row of parking. Then there were no schedules and it was suggested that we use our phones; there was no cell service. We walked and walked and walked and didnt manage to get to see one presentation. Finally we walked a beeline to the Barrington farms. There was not a back gate and we were told to walk around. We didnt hike around so missed it.
