Havent been to this local famous restaurant in my 20 years here. Amazing place, great food (Spanish omlette and the sirloin steak), including soft biscuits, fluffy pancakes. Service was excellent and fast. Prices are reasonable. Will come again. Bring cash.

I visited this establishment last week for the first time. I did arrive at 11:15am and when my friend and I decided to eat here, we was unaware that it closed at 12. Upon arrival observed interior to be very dated, leather booths seats torned, floors discolored. Interior in need of renovation. Server/waitress was very friendly and pleasant. My friend arrived later than me. Had a family emergency, but I ordered for her. She was the one that recommended this place. We both ordered the Ham and eggs, pancakes. Large chunks of ham noted, large portions. Food warm, not hot. Not very tasty. As we were eating, it was getting close to noon, an elderly ,tall, thin male approached our booth. Stating they close at 12. We apologized for getting here late, but we were trying to eat. I barely could eat the food. It was not good to.me at all, but my friend was eating hers. The waitress did ask if I wanted a take out box, and I replied No I asked him was he the owner and he replied yes. He informed us that he had exterminators coming. He practically was telling us we had to leave. Usually at an establishment, they close up when the customer is finshed, not coming to their table to inform them. We should have never been offered food if they were going to ask us to leave, and not allow a person to finish his/her meal. My friend and I got up and paid our ticket. My meal was $16.80 . I did leave a tip for waitress, because she was very nice. I Do Not recommend anyone eating here. Believe me it was my first and last time!!!

We walked in soaking wet from rain and were greeted by a real sour puss. The place is very run down and was dirty. Our waitress, however was a sweetheart and very accommodating. The coffee was terrible and she brought me some tea without hesitation. My food was mostly satisfactory, although my eggs were not cooked very well. My slice of ham was excellent but my daughters bacon was not.

Im giving 3 stars for the service and atmosphere. I was really rooting for the food to be delicious. Walked in and was seated immediately. Waitress came right over and filled up our coffees and never let them run dry. We ordered an omelet and the steak and eggs. No flavor AT ALL. Got hash browns, no flavor and they were cold. Got biscuits, they were OK. The atmosphere of this place reminds me of my childhood. The waitress was welcoming and very quick and friendly. Up the game on flavor. $57 for breakfast for 2 people for nostalgia aint worth it.

I can confirm the nostalgic feel from bout 40ish years ago!!! The food was good and service efficient. Seems like the only thing missing is cigarette smoke along with the smell of coffee, plates clacking together, some indistinct food cooking oder (probly breakfast) and music playing in da background...

This place is an anomaly. Its worth it to go and experience a real life time machine. If you want to know what it was like to go here in 1990 then go today, everything is the same including the people. The food is not good. The staff was cursing each other in the kitchen loud enough to be heard at the table. The coffee tastes like water. The bacon was burnt, the eggs were terrible, the pancakes were obviously instant and they used water not milk. Even the water at the table tastes like lake Waco. $14 for a bad breakfast is bonkers. The world has moved on and Harold Waite has not. The only reason people eat here must be the decor which reminds them of their childhood, or their grandparents house. Skip this if you are hungry. If you need to experience 1990 again then they are open until 12pm

It s my first time here while visiting Waco. The first time I walked in I was so surprised to see the restaurant. It made me feel I was on different year like maybe 1980s. Everybody was so welcoming and the waitress was so nice , you don t have to ask her what you need. My food was ready less than 7mins, everybody was so so awesome! I ordered chicken fried steak it was crispy and delicious. I didn t really like the hash brown I think it should be cooked with a lot of butter but that s my preference. And the pancakes are so so good better than Ihop . I really loved it here definitely coming back!

I ate here this morning. The waitress and staff are always so warm and accommodating. The food is great and I enjoy eating here. But this morning when I left, I stayed in my car for a moment sending an email. I saw the sweetest thing happen. The young lady who took my money, came out the door and there was an older gentleman that need help getting out of his vehicle and into the restaurant. It was the sweetest exchange. She made sure his clothes were straightened up and met him with a smiling face and conversation. Bravo to her and Harold Waites for employing such excellent caring employees.

07/15/23 A friend and I met at Harold Waites Restaurant as a new place to try. The food was mediocre. The pancakes looked perfect, but were not tasty. The coffee and egg were ok. The ham was the best item on this order. My reason for writing this review is due to the unprofessionalism of the waitress who removed a bottle of ketchup from our table and took it to another table for a person without asking if we needed it. Second, person came to our table to say hes helping out and needed to take the dish to the kitchen because they needed it. Please note, it was one dish that he picked up. Not the other dirty dishes. Also, note there were at least 15 empty tables meaning there were more empty than filled. My friend and I hadnt seen each other in a while and we assumed we wore out our welcome! The bottom line is we wont patronize the restaurant again. Very Unprofessional and Disrespectful.

The food is delicious, with huge portions. I recommend the trash can omelet or the chicken fried steak! The waitresses are polite and do a good job even with big parties. Really good but heavy on the whip cream so if you dont like alot of whip cream you have to ask for them to make it light or leave it off. The pecan waffle and chocolate chip waffle are also really good.

This is a long-time breakfast place, although they have moved to a smaller building. The pancakes, omlettes, and eggs were excellent! The bacon was a little overcooked, too crispy for my liking. Place is great in that they only serve breakfast! Close at 12P, so you need to get there early. You can bring an appetite. However, the portions are a bit on the small side. No fountain drinks. Get a can of soda and a cup of ice. It is higher priced for the portions received, and it seems more geared toward an older crowd. It is okay. Servers are friendly, and service is pretty quick. Just be aware that you will still be hungry when finished.

Im sad I didnt take a picture of the amazing food to show how great it was. My husband and I both ordered the chicken fried steak with eggs, hashbrowns, and pancakes. The portion was huge, especially the steak, which was surprising because some places try to skimp on the meat. The pancakes were delicious and fluffy, and the eggs and steak cooked properly. I loved that the syrup was warmed up. Our waitress was a pleasure and so very friendly which made for a great experience. Kudos to her and those who prepared our meal. We will definitely visit again next time we are in Waco..

I went there due to it being the only pancake place open at the time, and I would thoroughly recommend it despite that. The staff were kind and on point. This pancake house has a old fashion homestyle feel to it. My waitress greeted me with a warm smile and a welcoming attitude. I ordered the pigs in a blanket, scrambled eggs and country grits. My coffee was hot and quite delicious. They give good sized portions, but for my taste, it was a bit bland and under impressive. The sausage was overcooked and I felt like I was eating sausage jerky. I had to keep drinking my hot coffee just to neutralize the taste. There were two things that annoyed me about this place. The first was the booth seating. Everytime the person to my back moved, my seat moved. I did not like that. Also, I noticed a lot of people coughing and hardly no one was courteous enough to cover their mouths and no one was wearing mask not even the cooks in the back. I guess people dont care about spreading their colds, Covid, or any other respiratory issues. This was very disappointing to see, so they will get a 1 star from me and I will not return to this place. Parking: Its limited.

This is a lovely mom and pop establishment. When I walked in, I was greeted after reading a sign on the door that said cash or checks only card machine down . No big deal, I had cash. I sat myself after being directed to one side of the diner, and heres where it gets interesting . Another gentleman comes in behind me by about 5 minutes and goes to the other side. It definitely makes a difference where you sit on getting good service. Ive ordered and only gotten water still waiting on OJ, and this gentleman is eating country fried steak eggs , toast . So I was thinking maybe because I ordered grilled steak, it would take longer taste etc. Ive had steak at Waffle House seasoned better . Very clean, very cozy, very inviting. Just know the servers dont give the same service, and the food can be a bit bland.

We went an hour before closing and received the most pathetic stack of pancakes I ve ever had. It s like they were out of batter and added water to it. All 4 plates had different sized pancakes ranging from silver dollar to a regular one. The last plate that came out the pancakes were half the size of the other 3 plates delivered to our table. Very thin and no flavor. This used to be one of my favorite breakfast places but they have gone down hill and prices way to expensive for what you get.

The omelette was $12 and it ONLY came with toast. The hasbrowns were $3.69 and not even homemade. Definitely frozen and stale. So in total for 1 person to eat an omelette and a side of hashbrowns and toast that was not even toasted was almost $18. Inside was very run down. The man at the door could have been more inviting but the lady who actually took my order was very nice. Will not be back. Too many other options for this price.

I dont understand the 5* ratings! We ate here at breakfast and every item on our plates was cold and greasy. The elder man at the front (the owner, I was told), was extremely rude. The inside is old, rundown and dirty. We will never go back.

We were not greeted after entering and eventually seated ourselves. Food was out very quickly, omelets were average and pancakes tasted like they were the same as McDonalds. Uneventful, filled our stomachs.

Not as good as usual. Had chicken fried steak and eggs. The steak was the size of a half cow. Only a huge man can eat that, and I am 57 and weigh 160! <><

Reminds me a Senior Center and place could really use a good cleaning and organizing. However, I enjoyed my coffee and food and the waitress was pleasant.

The atmosphere and facilites are meh at best. The breakfast food has been subpar every time I come in. Thats three times Ive had rubbery pancakes, the eggs are the only thing good, Spanish omelet salsa looked like it was a week old. The chicken fried steak is chewy and has an obscene amount of crust. Food came out fast but wasnt good at all. And overpriced to boot. You get more bang for your buck at Ihop.

Would not go back. Pancakes were chewy, tasted like a box mix. Hash browns tasted old and chewy with a bit of char, like they were cooked hours ago and reheated briefly. Eggs were decent. Not worth the money, they need to work on these essentials, sad for a place thats been in business 50 years.

Breakfast. Atmosphere. Absolutely flawless service. This is the place to go for breakfast in Waco. Located at 931 Lake Air drive (snuggly tucked away behind Uncle Dan s) this little hole in the wall diner has all this and more. When you walk up to the front door, there isn t much that catches the eye. This is a true diamond of Waco and might I dare say a potentially well kept secret. After walking in and being shown to our booth, my wife and I were both greeted with a bustling and smiling server named Renee. After a few minutes we chose our meals. The food was hot, fresh, and delicious. My wife ordered a #2 with hashbrowns on the side and I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak. And to top things off once my coffee was poured .I never saw the bottom of the cup again. This is what dining out should be. It has the warmth and love of Texas in its bones and the speed and quality of the staff and food is beyond fantastic. I tip my hat to you Harold Waites. 5 Stars. P.S. Ask for Renee. She is amazing!
