About the Company

rating: 4.4

With high-quality made-to-order burgers, a ‘come as you are’ environment and a strange reverence for Chuck Norris, there’s no place else quite like Twisted Root. Way back before ‘gourmet burgers’ was a thing, Chefs Jason Boso & Quincy Hart decided to build a restaurant around half-pound, fresh ground burgers with a menu that allowed customers to build their own burgers with a list of crazy and inventive toppings. The two met in culinary school, after jobs in stock brokerages and telephone line repair. After paying their dues working the line at The Four Seasons & Pappas Bros, Jason & Quincy finally opened Twisted Root Burger Co. in the Deep Ellum neighborhood of Dallas, Texas in 2006. Twisted Root appeared on the second season of Diners, Dr

I was in town with my son and daughter to see my granddaughter race her bike, and we wanted to try some place different. Everyone agreed on burgers, so my daughter googled best burgers in Waco. This is the spot that popped up, so we trusted the internet and gave it a try. Since we had never been there before, we wandered around for a minute, looking like we had no clue. The lady behind the counter asked if we needed help and gave us menus. She was very helpful and polite. Everyone, including the 2 kids that dont eat much, finished everything they ordered. We all agreed that next time we visit Waco, we will definitely make it a point to stop in again!

The restaurant was not clean. The pickle bar had a missing lid, the bathrooms should have been condemned, and in general everything was just not well kept. The hot honey chicken sandwich was delicious, the sides on the table tasted sour and vinegary and the pickles were not good which then meant the fried pickles were not good either. The potato chips were super thin and excellent. It could have been an off night food wise, but the cleanliness was definitely a long term problem. The bathroom was probably the grossest bathroom I have ever seen in a public space ever.

8/30/24 I called in an order around 9:30pm. When we arrived to pick up the order it was packed, I understood because Baylor university just finished playing. Problem was that I was quoted 15 minutes when I arrived they were way under staff. There was food galore just sitting in the window area. As I waited I seen three worker actually working. One employee ended going to the back asking a manager with green hair to come help. As she walked up she started harassing him on why they couldn t keep up. Mind you 1 cashier 2 on the line and 80 orders. She was ridiculous. Minutes later a lady with a nose ring from the bar came up as if she was going to help!!! But nope she scratch her head and waited for the to go order that was for her guest at the bar. She then grabbed it and left. After 45 minutes I got my order. Got in the car checked the food and it was cold and dry. Because I was heading to Dallas hadn t eaten we were angry and just left. $48 that I spent for cold food not worth it. Then to walk out and see the bartender with the nose ring smoking outside!!! Omg Won t go back . Kudos to the three young worker busting butt . A young lady two gentlemen with glasses. You should get promoted

Part of earning the higher ratings and best patron experience for repeat business. We cant always depend on the menu and food. Especially since we pay a premium price for that menu. The service was reasonable, and food delivery was very fast. The water was the high point of my meal. I ordered the millionaire burger with no bacon and hand pressed fries. It was one of the worst burgers I have eaten. The bun was soggy, the burger (supposedly wagyu, I doubt!) had about half a pound of greasy onion rings on top, and everything tasted like it had gone through a salt bath. The fries were luke warm, soggy, and not tasty. The beer from the tap even tasted off. This place has a high rating, with good reviews. I was thoroughly disappointed and absolutely dissatisfied. I hope yall do better in the future.

Twisted Root Burger Co was recommended by a friend who has been before. Arrived with a party of 7, no line/no wait. Meat choices were crazy, unfortunately out of bison at the time we went. Got the Western burger, and it didnt miss. The burger was juicy as can be, seasoned well, the soggy onion rings were the only reason it didnt get a 5 star rating. Despite the onion rings being soggy, breading falling apart, they were seasoned extremely well and tasty. My wife got fries with her burger and they were awesome, get the fries lol. Overall the atmosphere is awesome, service was above avg, food was really good.

They have different types of meat to choose from for your burger that I thought was interesting for those who d like to try something you can t find everywhere. The burgers had good flavor and an abundance of toppings. We also got the platter of mixed battered and fried sides and it was nice and crunchy and a little bit of everything for anyone at the table! They even had barrels of differently flavored pickles! The service was good - walk up counter was easy to get through even though it was quite busy. I will preface by saying I have been wanting to try this place for a while now. Had a day planned in Waco and salivated over getting to finally eat here. Absolute rudest and unprofessional servers at the pick up spot. We finally received our order and unfortunately one of our plates was missing. The server had erroneously given the plate to another patron despite it showing on our order ticket. She said to give her a minute. I remained standing at the pick up spot and was rudely told to go sit down and they would call our name . We waited 15 minutes with no acknowledgement of our order being ready. We finally went back up and it was sitting there and had been for over 5 minutes according to the employee because they didn t know who they belonged to . They could not even be bothered to offer up an apology for their multiple screwups. Such an inept and unprofessional crew and unbelievably rude. Of course they use Toast so you tip ahead of time. There is no way I would have left a $12 tip for the service experience I received. Another lousy experience that will lead to never returning.

I always try to give the benefit of the doubt when restaurants get busy. Like many of us, I ve spent time working in food service. I get it However, this place is an absolute disaster. We stood in line for 20 minutes, placed order at 2:10. At 2:55, still no food. When we did finally receive our order well over 45 minutes after we placed it, we only got 2/3 of the order. What we did get was overcooked burgers, with nasty soggy fries and buns. The worst part, it was clear the staff could not have cared less. Not even so much as a friendly sorry for the wait . Nothing. Plenty of great places to eat in Waco, and this is certainly one to avoid.

I was very disappointed with the food and the service. I ordered the Big Tex and fries. It was not a combo, and I had to pay for a side of fries and a drink. My hamburger was cooked medium rare and pink throughout the patty. I dont eat meat that looks undercooked and possibly dangerous to consume. My fries were cold and unacceptable to eat. I spoke to Becca, who was the manager of the evening. She came an apologized for the error that was made and attempted to make it right. But by that time, I was already done with the whole experience. She told me that they would comp me and I should see a refund within a few days. Im still waiting. Never ever should a restaurant send out cold food. We pay for the expectation that our food will be fresh and hot. Twisted Root Burger Co. failed this customer. I probably will not be back. Ended up leaving. There were no available seats and the bar was closed. Very loud and crowded. Atmosphere is not great for large families or hard of hearing folks. claustrophobic inside. Lots of food set out on the counter ready to be ran to tables but left to sit there for extended amount of time. Long line to order. Limited parking, parked at ER Nextdoor.

We paid $125 with 25% tip to wait over an hour for COLD burgers and flimsy cold fries. First time and last time we go here. Wait time can be overlooked on a Saturday night, but cold to the point of gross has no value.

One star because I couldnt do negative. Bad service produced bad food. The salad looked good but was not bite size and when we asked for a knife to cut the lettuce and the chicken breast, we got a to-go plastic ware set. My husband had a burger and cheese fries that were both served cold and fries were one solid sheet that he said tasted like plastic. We were excited about trying a restaurant we had never been to before but we definitely wont be going back to this one.

I ordered the cheese fries and they came out of the kitchen resembling plastic and completely gross. Asked for a knife, got a cheap plastic one. Burger was cold, bacon was mostly fat. Their microphone system was not working properly and I mentioned to the guy using it that no one can hear him and he said yea, I know, sorry and turned around.. I will never be back here.

For my sons small family wedding, I took the wedding party and families out for the rehearsal dinner here at Twisted Root. It was an excellent choice, and they accommodated us at the last minute due to usual wedding planning issues. The atmosphere was great, the staff was more than helpful to me as well as friendly and the food was delicious... The pricing point is more than 5 star! Thanks for the quick service and tolerating my load announcements..

Love this place! Great food, and the staff are friendly and down-to-earth. They dont seem like theyre putting on a customer service act, just very nice people. The menu is also very customizable. The fried onions are o.k. Its also not much more expensive than fast food places are these days, so may as well get something high quality!

Great burgers, but the quality can be hit or miss depending on the days. Some days they are amazing, and some days we ve been served cold food. I would try this place out during peak hours like weekends. Seems like food is lacking during slow times. Had a great experience the 2 out of 3 times we ve been there.

Fun atmosphere with a cool vibe, the barrels of pickles are great and your spicy pickles rock. Unfortunately the Tennessee hot chicken sandwich which had tasty chicken was completely mild. Mind you that was the only disappointment, the rest of our parties food was fantastic.

Food is super good but only problem was it took forever for tables to be cleaned. At one point 1/4 of the tables had trash on them and no one came to clean them up after a while and they didnt even do most of them. But overall good food, just dirty tables.

It was late after a long day and I wanted to pick up something that embodied vacation mode before hitting the hotel. Looking at what was near me, this name came up. Seeing a pic I had this sudden memory of eating a delicious sauce here years ago, last time I drove through Waco. Went there immediately. Walking in it s an instant good time vibe. Colorful murals, huge screens of sports and movies playing. Noisy but not loud. Lots of seating areas and a mini central bar. Order in the back and they give you a celebrity name card which they call when ready. Most important, the chipotle ketchup! Ahh their sauces are so good!! Horseradish Dijon and root beer bbq good too but my fave is that ketchup! Got the s mores shake with 3 whole charred marshmallows and a patty melt with fries. Patty melt looked a little small for the price but everything tasted good and was so heavy I could not finish it all one time anyway. If I lived here I d order fries and sauce on the regular!

Funky little spot. That is definitely geared towards the college age but has a great vibe. High-end burgers ordered at a counter with some unusual sides. Ordered the Gosh Jam It burger with goat cheese and habanero tomato jam, it was great. Strikes me as a super size batcave with videos and TV being projected onto concrete walls.

Twisted Root is a family-friendly, fun-vibes spot. The screens, the music, the excellent customer service are second to none in Waco, TX. While the burgers arent craft or the best in the region, they are worthy of your visit. Come with friends and family to really take advantage of the upbeat ambiance here. The staff are friendly and accommodating. Dont worry about the long lines either. The kitchen knows how to handle a crowd. You wont wait long before you have hamburger juices on your face! Lol They serve alternative meats and have a Pickle bar too!

Made to order food was somehow still merely luke warm when served, drinks were on the wrong side of expensive, and the big concrete box of a building is very loud even when not many people are in there. The burger recipe was good, but overall it was not an enjoyable visit.

First off I hate writing negative reviews but there was too many bad things that I just needed to give my opinion. First off when you walk in the place is filthy, floors are sticky and bits of food and trash all over the ground. There were about ten empty tables that were dirty still, the bus boy was moving like a sloth half heartedly cleaning the tables. Our table we finally chose still has water and crumbs all over it. The high chair was beyond gross and fell bad for sticking my daughter in it. The fans were so high that paper towels were blowing off the table and it was noticeably cold in there. Had to go stand by the counter cause the guy on the PA was impossible to understand even standing right in front of him. We got our food, burger was lukewarm and tasteless. Fries, onion rings and pickles were cold and the batter fell off as soon as you touched one. My daughters grilled cheese has barely any cheese and was dry. I don t understand how this place has above a 4 star rating. I will never come back here even if it was free. Also, $45 bucks for two burgers a grilled cheese and fries? Cmon now. And finally when I asked for extra ranch the counter guy basically threw them on my plate and seemed annoyed I even asked. Spicy pickles were good though.

Even if it werent Eclipse Day, this place should consider those blinking pagers or a text service to notify when your food is ready at the counter. Plus, maybe tell people itll be an hour after ordering to expect your food. On the plus side, the food was tasty (excepting the mostly raw bacon which got thrown away).
