The last time we went here was a year ago. The food was good. Tonight, wife brought home two Lonestar burgers. They were terrible. The pickles had no taste, the lettuce was like something from a salad bar decoration, and the eggs werent even cooked. The quality was something Id expect from a badly run Dennys. Seriously, it was that bad. Needless to say, well never go back. Its sad to see restaurant food getting worse and worse as time passes. I remember when burger places had really good burgers. Its not just 1836. Most of the restaurants in the greater Tyler are are serving tasteless junk. Best to just buy your own food and eat at home. Oh, and it was $34 for 2 burgers with fries... in toxic Styrofoam boxes... Still shaking my head...

Went for lunch and ordered a chicken quesadilla. The salsa was pretty good, decent amount of heat, though watery the chicken quesadilla had very little cheese, which was disappointing. It was like pulled chicken with a lot of liquid, very messy. I had to finish eating it with a fork. The dipping sauce was bizarre and I couldnt figure it out. It had chunks of vegetables in including what seemed to be carrots, was very bland. To me it looked and tasted just like the filling from a chicken pot pie. No sour cream brought out with the quesadilla. The service was not very attentive. The music was way too loud and it was strangely dark, even though it was the middle of the day. Darker than I would have preferred. Finally, when I got my bill, the quesadilla was two dollars more than the menu price, so I brought it up to the waiter and he changed it. I wonder how many times thats happened and no one noticed?

Great food, great drinks with adeqaute pours and Jeremy is a top notch server. Each time I ve had him he is on top of if we need anything periodically but not overbearing, bussing used and unneeded plates and overall a very attentive server. From a server previously in the profession, this is what I look for in service. This is what makes this a go to spot for me.

While the food was decent, the service was terrible. Our waitress was rude and seemed bothered by requests for water refills, inquiries about when our drinks would be served, etc. We did not receive our drinks until the end of our meal. We had time to order and eat appetizers and entrees. We placed our drink order at the time we were sat. We only received our drinks at the time we requested our ticket. She snatched the ticket out of my hand to take off an item that was never served. She failed to remove the item and charged my card anyway. The manager refused to speak with us while we were there or the next day when we called about being charged for the item we never received. Would not recommend and will not be back.

The staff was nice, but the food was not good. The burger was overcooked and very dry. The salmon was overcooked and blackened but not in a good way it wasn t advertised as blackened. The costa chop salad was mediocre and could have easily been made at home with overcooked chicken breast and bagged lettuce.

Mashed potato s were runny taste like instant potatoes. Chicken fried steak was so tough could not hardly cut it. Greens were out of a can and someone tried to season them and they were nasty. Gravy I don t know what that was. Gravy and potatoes looked alike runny expensive the food will not go back

First time here and we loved it!!! Wife had the 1836 Rita and loved it. She had the steak and eggs and I had the macho burrito. Incredible!!! Also the Queso is uh MAZING! Julian was our server and he did an outstanding job!!! We will def hit this spot up on the regular.

My husband and I both had chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and greens. The steak had a lot of gristle in it. The cream gravy was terrible. It tasted like it was made with chicken broth and milk. The greens were to sweet. And you couldnt even see the mashed potatoes because they were under the steak, smashed flat. The waiter was terrible. This job may not have been right for him.

On the whole, a winner. Great chips and salsa for a quick start. My husband had chicken tenders, totally awesome. Large, large portion freshly cooked with fresh cut fries. I had chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, and collard greens. I could have eaten a quart of the collards. Collards are hard to cook well. These were seasoned to perfection. Mashed potatoes were good, nothing remarkable. The CFS was not up to my standards, crust soggy, thin, and the whole thing appeared to be a frozen, pre-made cutlet, not traditionally pounded and battered round steak. CFS aside, cream gravy with green chile sauce enclosed really good. I was very pleasantly surprised when we got the check. Its more than reasonable on the total bill, including an import beer. We will return, we had never heard of this place until we noticed they sponsored an air show in Murchison today. Nice facilities, nice location, service more than cheerful, I think her name was Esmerelda, really on top of stuff. However, when you visit, bring a big magnifying glass or use your phone flashlight and camera on the menu. Its in teeny-tiny font on rustic paper and rustic printing in a darker facility. My spouse nor I could really read it at all. We commented to the server, and she said it was a very common complaint, so the obvious question, why dont you fix it?

Iron skillet enchiladas are delicious, so are the fried green tomatoes, and the huge chicken chimichanga. The Mac n cheese is the best Ive had in a long time. Parking: There are two lots available for parking on the weekends and in the evenings. The main parking lot in front of the restaurant is always full, but there is another lot right next to it thats mostly empty. Wheelchair accessibility: You can roll right up to your table.

While searching for a place to dine, I came across this restaurant that caught my attention because of its website which stated that they are dog-friendly. This was terribly disappointing. Extremely. Service was 3/5, Food, 2/5, Ambience 2.5. We went at around 6 pm for steak frites. This was more like poutine with nacho sauce ame fries. Inedible. Ordered spicy watermelon marg. Watered down liquor. Small glasss. Took forever to re-order. I don t live here but my sister just moved and there no food establishments. This she heard was good through word of mouth. It was not.

Food was great but owners friends sat at bar being obnoxious and spewing profanity. When we asked for a manager, we were told no one asked them to behave because they were the owners friends and refused to help with the problem. You pay for family dining not in a sports bar, guests should behave especially if they are the owners guest. Shame because the food is outstanding but I refuse to wait 30 minutes for a seat to have my elderly mil exposed to profanity and obnoxious behavior, unable to be assisted because of who they are.

Jordan was our server recently and he s very attentive, very knowledgeable, and very kind. Jordan recommended the chicken sandwich and said it s his personal favorite.. I did not read the menu, a usual tactic upon my first visit to a restaurant. I WAS NOT prepared for that sandwiches presentation.. sliced in half face down in green chili sauce.. it was the most pleasant mess I ve had in the form of a chicken sandwich in a long time! Yall, the French fries were hot.. I ve been served cold fries for so many years I d absolutely forgot what hot French fries tasted like.. it was like the potato version of being born again. Let me not give a very firm nod to the crawfish queso and fried green tomatoes because they were both amazing and should not be overlooked.. the queso was served in a warm mini cast iron skillet and stayed dipable until we were finished. This is a great spot if you re looking to impress your company.

A co-worker recommended this place and Im glad we finally had the chance to try it. My waiter was very nice and took very good care of us. We chose to sit in the extended area that was partially outside with heaters and it was nice. The proportions are plenty for sure and I definitely plan on visiting again to try the shrimp and grits.

When we first walked in, no one came to seat us. We eventually went and sat at the bar where the bartender eventually got to us. We got our drinks, then asked a passing by waiter if we could sit on the patio. Once outside, the experience got better. Jordan waited on us and was great! He brought us chips and salsa, then we got the fried green tomato appetizer. LOVED them! My friend got the chimichanga which was huge! It wasnt even the biggest one they have according to Jordan. I got the chicken sandwich which was so good, even with the green chile sauce. We would definitely go back, but the first impression upon walking in the door wasnt good. It was our first time at this restaurant. First impressions are very important. If Jordan hadnt been so attentive, we very likely wouldnt be back and the review would not be good at all. Tyler has really stepped up its culinary game with this restaurant. I didnt even order an entree because I couldnt even get past the appetizers. I ordeeed the fried green tomatoes and the crawfish queso. Both were absolutely delish. The fried green tomatoes came with homemade pimento cheese with microgreens on top...so fancy. My husband nearly licked the plate clean of the gravy that was on his chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes. They have a great patio by the way. Highly recommend.

The service was great and the place looked like alot of fun on a weekend but the food was ok at best. I ordered a burger and fries and the burger was such a mess that I had to eat it with a fork. This was our first time going here. Chips and salsa was bland. The menu on the website is not accurate. I went for the steak and lobster tail and was told they dont serve that. The waiter said we were looking at an old menu. I told him I was talking about the website menu. His response was the one they gave me was old. I ordered filet mignon and added shrimp he responded thats 8.00 more I responded I know its on the menu. The menu section steak and pork did not have any pork items. When my food came the shrimp was missing. When I informed the waiter he said that was his fault he did not put it in. He went on to say let me get it, it should not take long. When my order came he charged me for the shrimp. I feel that he made an error why did I have to pay. I could not wait to get out of there, will not go back.

I really enjoyed my dinner, I ordered the chicken chimichanga- it was fantastic! My mom ordered the skillet enchiladas, my bestie ordered the salmon tacos and they both enjoyed their dishes as well. Next time Ill get some queso for an app because it was so good ok my chimi, I was a little surprised that it wasnt very busy (9pm on a Sat night), which made me wonder even more as to why our server was slow and forgetful- had to ask for a few things two or three times but otherwise I cant wait to go back...maybe as a take out or Door Dash/Uber Eats to bypass the wait staff

We called early afternoon on Saturday, July 29th to make a reservation for 8. They told us they do not do reservations. So we went to the restaurant at 7pm to eat anyway and we were willing to wait the 1 hour & 1/2 to get a table. A party walks up behind us and say they have a reservation for 8 at 7pm and they were seated. I asked the hostess why they didnt take our reservation when we called in and she was speechless and unhelpful. We are not going here or even attempt to go here or either of the two Montez restaurants ever again. We went to Twelve instead and were treated much better with only a 30 minute wait.

1st time. Not aware of closing at 3. Walked in at 2:30. Maybe 30 people at various tables. Not swamped but busy. Waitress brought chips and took our order. When she brought drinks,?told her about stale chips and her reply was, Unfortunately, that s all we have as we ve had a rush and waiting on the chip heater to fire backup. This was a poor excuse. She didn t tell me she could bring fresh any time going forward and I am at a loss as to why the chip heater had been off in the first place. My best guess is they were already engaged in clean up and didn t care to serve fresh chips. We canceled our order and left.

I ve been here a number of times over the last year since moving to Tyler and for the most part the experience has been decent. However, my most recent experiences have been less than ideal. Usually we are told there are 10-15 minute wait times for a party of 2 when there are many visible open tables. In addition I ve been seated more than once without silverware. Usually I don t notice until I try to eat my food and it s missing. I then need to wait while my food cools. The challenge I noticed is that the wait staff is short handed and seems stressed out. It also feels as though they are inexperienced. The individual people are kind and polite and appear to be doing the best they can. My drinks go empty. I blame leadership. It s hard for me to give a 1 star as I rarely do it, but this is a systemic issue at 1836 and for the money I have many other choices in town. I wish that the experience was improved and that my rating would match the food. Whoever is in charge needs to get it together and setup the wait staff for success. I will no longer be returning to 1836 because I can t justify the experience compared to many other fantastic options in Tyler. I m saddened by having to post this and I hope the feedback is taken to heart and the experience is improved.

This dine in experience was horrible...I had chicken fried steak (too salty) mashed potatoes,Mac n cheese it was decent...my husband had steak tacos...he was disgusted....taste like boil meat..shell was soggy no flavor at all..never again ...50$ for trash

Nice outdoor patio! Food was average bar style food that is too pricey for what you get, our waitress was super nice and super slow. Waited 30 minutes just to get our card back after paying. Nothing special about it

Really surprised at how awful this place is after seeing all the good reviews. Table, floor and chairs were filthy. Silverware and salsa cup had old food dried on them. Not sure what style the food is but it dang sure aint Texas! Thin tasteless gravy. Batter on the fried steak was flavorless. Steak was really thin. Instant potatoes. I asked for no collards and got them anyhow. The majority of clients were there to drink. Hopefully the alcohol is better than the food.

THOROUGHLY ENJOYED OURSELVES SO MUCH, I I FORGOT TO DO MY JOB AND GRAB THE PHOTOS !!! We will definitely make this a regular place for us to dine out! The food was incredibly delicious We sat on the patio and loved the atmosphere.

Food was really good, fresh. Service was amazing. Arrived for a late lunch on a Saturday, Memorial weekend. Seated promptly. Our waitress Verandi was on top of everything! But not annoying. Menus posted online showed more offering, looks like they have min mzed the menu. Appetizer of green queso was primo!!

Nasty!! First we had to wait for a while and no one seated us. While we waited, I needed to go to the bathroom and it was dirty. Toilet paper was on the floor and trash was spilling over. When I left the bathroom to go back up to be seated, my party was still waiting. The floor was sticky. You could feel it as you walked. Dirty plates were piles up aom tables and no employees were seen.

First off, we were seated outside after I asked for inside seating. The table was dirty, and it got what looked like tea all over the menus. The food was very good, I got the Fried chicken and it came with mashed potatoes and greens, everything was really good and the greens were excellent. I would go back.

Did not enjoy. The bathrooms make me feel unsafe. Floor to ceiling doors. Private. Dead bolt on the stall. A predator can be waiting in there and lock you in with him because they let men and women all be together. Like 8-10 stalls, Want to get away from a date, cant. It was cute on Ally McBeal in the 90s. In todays social climate? Its scetchy enough that the middling food, sloppy servers, watery margaritas and slow kitchen wont over come it. There are hundreds of places to eat better in Tyler., with normal segregated restrooms or single unisex stalls. Ill be there.

The absolute worst experience I have ever had! The service was terrible.. it took an hour before anyone even tried to get us a table.. we actually put our own table together. Party of 10.. they brought chips, we had to ask 3 times for the salsa that is supposed to be served with the chips, one of our people NEVER DID GET THEIR MEAL AT ALL, Another never got the fries that went with their meal, another never got their side of greens... ! It took forever for the food to arrive and it came out one plate at a time, and it was cold.. I never even got a refill on my water nor did anyone else! And the waiter did not even try to rectify anything! I am understanding of a mishap here or there but our experience was totally frustrating and a huge disappointment! This was my 76 yr old Mothers and my Mothers Day gift with her child, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.. very disappointed in the entire experience.
