Beautiful, we stayed in a yurt for the first time, it was almost homelike but also nature like. We seen deer and a few other animals, as well as fished. There is so many trees and campsites and nature is just so beautiful there. Their restrooms are so clean and nice and their showers, were so relaxing. We will def be back. I didnt take many pictures because we were enjoying our visit, but the older I took were of a pond there where you can fish

A lot of the fun experiences that camping with young children who like to say go fishing are not so easily done here with the lake being pretty well dried up. So that was a bummer. We rented a yurt, that was ok, I suppose, but we had to reseal the a/c vent so it wasnt blowing the exhaust back into the yurt and also had to contend with the infestation of wasp that had made the old previously used a/c vent their home and it was not sealed off properly either so the first night there we had fun teaching the kids how to seal of those vents and killing and removing the wasp. Also, the pool was closed all summer, apparently. Its not something we found out until we got there. So, there is no lake or pool to go swimming at, and its triple digit weather. No ice is available at the little mini store as the ice machine was broken. And the grass was pretty much overgrown all throughout the hiking trails. Overall, we made due and enjoyed the quality time we spent there. We will just find a different park to go to next summer.

Lake is across the highway, it no water anyways. Lots of mature trees and rv sites with cover from those. Plenty of places to walk. Some aspects of the park were not maintained picnic tables, mowing grass, and I know the park is older, but that was a bummer. Bird blind is fun. The trail we walked heading out there was good and easy. We were there for a night passing through. Would go again.

The park was not well monitored. We were in Pecan Grove. The people across from us had 14 dogs in a horse trailer and cages behind it. Dogs were not all caged nor leashed. Another family moved in across from us with 4 pit bulls. Tried to go walking, but tent campers let their pit bulls run loose. If we went walking, we had to carry a stick for safety.

Do not go camping there if you have any form of arachnophobia - SPIDERS EVERYWHERE. This review is not fair because my fear of spiders is just STUPID BAD. I would like to say the bathrooms and showers were very clean, and TOTALLY SPIDER - FREE!! How do they do that?? (Sent the Hubby in first to check- Lol) We were surprised by the cool sites for RVs, and the number of sites altogether. Very nice!! (Showers are great!)

We were here for an overnight. We had snagged a reservation for a full hook up site for our 30 trailer (89). The space was spacious and easy to get into. The site was also well shaded and clean. The bathrooms were clean and there was plenty of hot water. In my walk around other areas, the sites were marked with what size rig would fit into the site, most with electric and water. Many were small. Although I did not get a chance to do any park activities, the park is close to a steakhouse, Perini Ranch Steakhouse, a place that had been on my Want to Go list. We had a delicious dinner. we did have a difficult ride out to the park as Google Maps wanted to take us down multiple dirt roads to get there. I recommend coming in from Buffalo Gap rather than Tuscola.

We booked this campsite after carefully looking at the dimentions of the site on the booking website. We have a 23 foot travel trailer, and the website said the maximum vehicle length was 25 feet for the site in Pecan Grove loop. When we arrived, we saw that there was a platform up a small ramp for the trailer. It didnt look like our trailer would fit, but there was a prominent sign at the back of it stating 25 feet. I got out and measured the platform and found that the length of the site was 18 feet, and the width was 25 feet. When you are backing a travel trailer up the ramp and onto the platform, its impossible to turn 90 degrees after going up the ramp, to fit the travel trailer onto the site. The only way to use the platform is to put the trailers tires at the back edge of the platform and have the tongue on the ramp with many blocks of wood to have the trailer level. Since our door is at the back of our trailer, the stairs would also need blocks since the stairs would not reach far enough to the ground because they wouldnt be on the platform, and since it had been raining, they would be in the mud. We called the ranger at the desk and asked for another site because we couldnt fit in the one we had. She was lovely and apologized and gave us one that cant be reserved. We wouldnt have been able to fit otherwise. We drove around the Pecan Grove loop and noticed that there are many platforms that have these big signs saying 25 feet. They were all 25 feet wide, and 18 feet long as you are backing in and going up the ramp. Nobody would be able to comfortably fit a trailer larger than 18 feet. Obviously, the people who put in these platforms didnt know or understand that trailers backing up need to have the length of 25 feet, not the width. On the booking site, it doesnt indicate the width of the site. My advice is to not book a site that says it has the maximum vehicle length of 25 feet. Its really 18 feet and if your trailer is more than 18 feet, it wont fit on the platform and there is no room elsewhere on the site. They must know about this problem and decided to put up those signs saying, 25 feet because of complaints. Try to get a site in Oak Grove if you have a travel trailer between 18 and 25 feet. Its much nicer and your trailer will fit.

Beautiful fall colors and separated from the hunting land for safety. We look forward to attending many events in the future. The possibilities are endless. Vacation, weekend camping, hunting, horseback riding if you have your own equine partner. UTD coggens are required as to be expected. The photo opportunities will also be beautiful memories for years to come. If you love nature I highly recommend taking advantage of the yearly pass. 5$ here and there will add up to the amount anyways. Hope to see yall there!!

We were at Abilene State Park 1/10-1/14/2024 for a ladies group campout. We chose the Group hall & camping in Wagon Wheel Circle. This combination is perfect. There are 15 or 16 DOUBLE 30 & 50 amp hookups do you can accommodate 30 rigs in this loop. The group hall is large, with a full kitchen, tables & chairs and restrooms attached to the group hall. You do have to provide your own cookwear, dishes, etc. I can t say enough about the staff at this park. Everyone was so helpful and courteous. Ranger Karen went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. Superintendent Rick was great setting up a nature hike for us & stopping but to check all was well. Sadly, due to the drought, the lake is only at about 15% (per the Ranger that lead the hike). There are wild hogs around & tho we didn t see any, that had just recently made a mess of the grounds around the group hall and moved on. Lots of deer around. Great trails, CCC buildings and a Swimming Pool! I highly recommend this State Park. We well be back.

Tucked back off the road in the woods with ample spaces for camping. Small wooded sections between each campsite help make the camping experience quiet and enjoyable. Campsites arent as level as they might appear on initial assessment, so make sure youve got your leveling system at the ready. Group area is huge and away from the main camping area. Bathhouses in each section are clean and fairly well maintained. A few minutes from Buffalo Gap and only about 20-25 minutes from the south end of Abilene.. Well be back.

We visited this park Nov 3rd-5th, a Friday afternoon check-in for a Sunday mid-day check-out. When we arrived with our Rv, we sat at the window to confirm our reservation for 15 minutes. When someone finally came to the window to great us, we were told to just hold on it would be wait. There were several other vehicles piling in behind us, and what seemed like another 15-20 minutes later, we were checked in. The office didnt sell ice but had an ice machine. We drove to our site and set up and realized we needed ice, so 1 from our group drove to the office where an ice machine had been spotted to only after sitting in the long line of cars again finds out the office did not sell ice. The person from our group had to drive into the nearest town. Our daughter works for a state park and the customer service at that park is top notch, but Abilene State Park needs to work on staff and putting in a side drive for when re-entering the park, you are not required to sit in a long line of cars trying to get checked in. The Abilene State Park itself is absolutely beautiful! We took hikes and took some great picks. The park was quiet at night and very clean.

Abilene is a wonderful state park. We love the trees and the trails through the woods. Wagon Circle is an awesome place to camp with the kids. They have space to run and play and climb the lovely old oaks with other kids and not get out of your sight. Pecan Grove spaces are really nice too. The woods on 3 sides offer some separation from other campsites, but this area is for small campers (25 or less) and tents. Bathrooms were really clean, and we appreciated the hand soap. The camp hosts (?) had decorated their site and the entrance to Pecan Grove for Fall- so welcoming. Loved that they added a small scarecrow at each site. In the hot summers, the swimming pool is a great way to cool down. Theres a fishing pond, and Lake Abilene just down the road is a good place to fish, swim, or kayak. They also rent yurts and have a soccer field, baseball field and volleyball pit. Just down the road is Buffalo Gap and Perinis Steak Ranch, with some other places we need to still check out. Theres a flea market the 3rd weekend. Abilene State Park is a great place to stay.

A beautiful State Park with super friendly staff of rangers. Plentiful shady oaks and RV sites are double width and level throughout the park. Large swimming pool, bird blind, hiking, and monthly star party with provided telescopes to view the night sky. Highly recommended!

Excellent place to go! We never have any trouble with other people, power, or other services. Our only Con is that they dont seem to be trying to get the swimming pool open anytime soon, if at all. This pool has a lot of memories and brings in many more people when its open. We fear that they may shut it down permanently and get rid of it. We pray that is not the true future. Besides the closed pool, the park is outstanding and we will continue to go there. Playground: The playground is not extravagant and could use improvement, such as more items for the kids to climb on and enjoy. But it is there, clean, and has easy access. Toilets: The restrooms are a little out if date and could use some upgrades, but they are always clean. The showers heads really need attention, but they are also clean, and they mostly work, plus there has always been plenty of hot water. Dog-friendliness: We dont have dogs, but we see plenty of others with dogs. They are always out walking their dogs and we never see or experience any issues. Picnic area: There are picnic areas in campsites and randomly around the park. Everything is kept nice, clean, and in working condition. If you experience anything broken or needing attention, we recommend reporting it to the office so they are aware of it and can do necessary repairs. If they dont know about it, then it wont get taken care of in a timely manner.

This is a pretty small park, but absolutely beautiful. When we went, it was green and there were a few different trails that really made it feel secluded and special. Lots of spots available to camp as well for RV or tent.

Too bad the lake is so low.. Camp sites are great. I do wish they would get rid of some of the dead tree limbs. I felt unsafe on some of the trails because of the broken limbs above my head.

Beautiful park. Wooded spots with lots if shade. Big pool although it was empty when we were there. Theyre probably working on it to get it ready for the summer. Circle camping areas have a shaded common area but no shade for the camper, so be careful where you book.

A great night of camping! Many sites, lots full hook ups. The bathroom and showers were clean and well maintained. I came in after 6 pm with no reservation, pickup a form at the entrance, I returned it on my way out. The camp host knew which sites were open. I had a lovely walk. There are quite a few trails. There is a bird blind that was active. Great campground. 24 bucks plus 5 dollar entry fee.

I liked the Park. Not real scenic but has a subtle beauty and appeal. Elm Creek runs through the Park. One of the shower facilities was basic and needs to be updated. The other facility was newer and worked well. Check it out.

Stayed here for two nights in the Pecan Grove area of the campground. Was well spaced out with clean campsites and bathrooms with showers. Close enough to Abilene to explore the area, but far enough away to enjoy some peace and quiet. We could hear traffic noise from the highway behind us but it wasnt bad after dark and didnt deter us from staying there. The bathrooms were a little far so if you are needing to use the facilities, we recommend camping a bit closer to them. Not an issue for us however. Friendly people, nice mixture of shade and sun. Only thing we didnt like was our picnic table was broken and we were unable to use it because of that. Other than that, we would stay here again.

We stayed at the wagon wheel campsite and it is just like it seems. At least they have cut the number of sites by half. You would be very close in the original configuration. There is fishing and hiking as well as equestrian facilities.

Love spending time here. Trails are great for a walk in nature. Decent variety of plant and bird life! It s a great little escape for when you can t really leave town, but also need to leave town. It s always well maintained, and I frequently see improvement projects. Also they host lots of fun events- stargazing, walking homeless dogs, and way more!

Everybody talks about amenities, let me tell you about the people... When we were there the entire park staff seemed to be always moving getting ready for summer. Things are always clean and in good repair making our stay pleasant and trouble free. The ladies in the office were cheery and extremely helpful getting our yearly passes processed, and informing us about activities. Big thanks to all who work so hard for our summer fun! Id recommend you go ahead and get your annual pass while youre there, as I bet youll want to come back. Plus, its good at any state park. 2-23 update Just spent a wonderful weekend in the yurts with my family. We rented the big meeting hall and had a warm dry space to hang out. Theres a kitchen set up, bring your own cookware, etc., a fireplace for cozy winter getaway like we had, and plenty of tables and chairs for 50 people. No pets at yurts or meeting hall, so bring your RV or tent and pets are welcome...leashed of course. I havent been over to the lake side lately, but I hear its low and the boat ramps are closed. Its still usually a good bank fishing lake. Support our state parks!!!!!

The park was mostly during my week stay so very quiet. Very easy access of the main road. Site was paved with fire ring and table. Pretty private as there is much distance between sites. Water and 50 Amp service only at site but dump station was easy to use. Site was level with lots of trees around. Clean restrooms and shower a short walk away. Lots of trails for walking andcexploring the park. Rangers were very friendly. A dozen channels on the TV aerial and 4G with T-moble. Park is located about 12 easy miles from Abiline making shopping very easy. I saved some money on entrance by purchasing a Texas park pass. I would certainly consider staying here in the future.

We are trying to get to as many state parks as possible for the 100 year celebration. So far this year we have visited 3 state parks. The campgrounds are so clean and spacious. Easy to back the camper into the lot. The staff was so friendly and they did patrols to check on everything which made us feel safe. There were so many nature trails. Mom and I had a great time. We were a little disappointed as the big lake trail was closed for the hunters. So we could not hike that trail.
