Food was ok. Steak came with mashed potatoes ok but not worth the price. Our waiter Nick seemed really trying to rack up the bill. It was my birthday so I probably would have done that myself anyway. First time and probably will not go back.

Night at the Refuge in Tomball TX, server Jenny very personal easy to talk to, fried green tomatos as an appetizer, I had my usual double shot of Crown Royal on the rocks my Babyee Norma had a Creekside Old Fashion made with Larceny Bourbon, she said damn good. The Band that played was great two piece, playing some great music blues & beach music that was relaxing and comfy, I can tell this will be a great night. The meal has arrived very beautiful presentation including the Shrimp and Grits custom made for Norma. My Prok Chop is just amazing, and Normas Ribeye hasnt been beat in Texas, yet this is an excellent meal. For Dessert we have Rum Runner Banna Bread Pudding and Orange Creamsicle Creme Brulee. Oh my gosh, delicious items. Then we just had to add a double shot of Don Julio tequila to finish the night. If you every get a chance to come to the Refuge in Tomball texas, the American Nomads recommended it highly. Charles & Norma

We live in the woodlands and had never been. Honestly thought i would find an ok option for date night but was pleasantly surprised to find every one of the dishes were to die for! We ordered the shrimp fondue, tuna poke, one of the meat entrees and also ordered the crab cake but forgot to snap a picture. Everything 10/10. Adding this to my top 3 date night options in the Woodlands! Special shoutout to the restaurant for taking us in at almost 9pm on a Wednesday and delivering great service and great food. We had not been on a date in a while as toddler parents and it meant a lot to us. Another shoutout to Jack for being a great server!

Were greeted by like 6 very friendly people upon arrival- thought service was going to be excellent. Super cozy place- half booth was comfortable but kept trying to come off floor and flip back and hit half boot behind me whenever I tried to re-seat myself. Pork chop was DELICIOUS, snapper/crab was just missing something- a bit bland and crab was not exactly chunks. Their old fashioned was too sweet and didn t see a smoked version available (altho didn t inquire). Our server just popped up and started pouring waters- did not introduce herself/tell us her name- I asked and found out it was Isela- very sweet but needed back-up. She took drink orders and then disappeared for awhile. It seemed the server was responsible for bringing/topping waters/clearing plates and bringing food? They need assistance with that. Not a huge place, lots of employees around yet it just lacked service? I only heard the specials by eavesdropping the table beside us (specials never mentioned to us). Most likely will not be back- Perry s pork chop is great and service much better. Oh and even the bread was super bland if thats even possible :/ just was expecting more.

Terrible service. Waitress very slow ro greet and took forever to come by and bring our order. Maybe checked on us 2-3 times all night in the span of over an hour. Received our appetizer before our drinks and appetizer was room temperature. Same for the main course. Nothing particularly wrong with the taste but was not hot. Saving grace was whoever made my old fashioned. It was fantastic. Bar area looked like the place to be. Much better steak options in the area.

Steak was fantastic. I had a rib eye and my wife had a filet mignon. They both were very, very good...top quality. The sides were good, nothing specifically any better than somewhere else but they were good. The dessert was not that great. I had a toffee cake and the cake wasnt very good. The cake seemed way too thick and like it was not mixed properly. My wife had the creme brulee which she said was quite good. The atmosphere is very nice. The wait staff was very, very nice. Overall a good place to go. Maybe there are some some better choices for specific food, but its still a very nice place with no regrets. Id like to see it when they have the live music.

Attended a birthday dinner last night & the food was simply not good. Ordered a filet medium took them 3 tries to get it right & 45 mins. The steaks were rare 3 times. Cold in the center. The sides were freezing & also didn t taste good. The crab stuffed shrimp was super salty & the risotto was very dry & bland. One other steak was also wrong at the table & it took 30 mins to correct. The Chocolate fondue was served cold which was gross. Overall disappointing experience. Save your money & go to Mastros, Tris or Trulucks for a high quality experience. This place missed the mark. We won t be back.

Full 5 stars. We came here the first time on Thanksgiving, it was such a wonderful way to celebrate the holiday. Food was outstanding. Our server (Monica ) was so warm, and welcoming. Fast forward to Fathers Day, we just left after our 2nd visit. Monica remembered us! The ambience, cocktails (try the Blue Majestic if you like citrus ) all of it, was top notch while never feeling pretentious. Kid-friendliness: Totally un-pretentious, down to earth, yet out of this world quality! So yummy. Everybody leaves happy.

For special events, my fiancée and I usually try new steak restaurants and on a whim, I chose The Refuge for his birthday. The ratings and reviews were consistent. I only have one minor negative which I will explain later for our reservation. This restaurant is on point with service. The menu offers a lot and we like that they dont serve sides separately. Each main meal comes with its paired sides. You can make modifications which is good too. We both ordered the filet and he got the one with crab stuffed shrimp and these were delicious. Our steaks were cooked to perfection. On each table, there is a candle that is poured into bourbon bottles that they have gotten from their empty liquor bottles which is very unique. They have decorated this place very uniquely. We loved the low-key vibe...its not stuffy at all and we both felt very comfortable. They sell the candles at the front and we purchased one for a friend who collects Bourbon and cant wait to give it to her. I would say that we will definitely be going back here. Monica, our server, was very friendly and attentive. We had a visit from the manager and other wait staff to make sure we were accommodated. Now for the negative, if that is even one, we made a reservation and because of having attended a graduation party, we were running 15 min late and I tried calling twice but they had the phone going to voicemail. Since we were going to be there shortly, we didnt leave a message...but they did call us asking if we were going to make our reservation. We normally dont like to be late for reservations and knew the would be busy to receive our message of our late arrival.

Bland and forgettable. My husband and I went to celebrate a business milestone and we selected The Refuge to award our hard work and accomplishments. We ordered our food with excitement and anticipation and what we got were two lackluster platters. Our celebration fell flat with the lack of flavor and seasoning for both our platters. What a huge disappointment. This was not our first time at this establishment and we walked away with an unpleasant experience. We are not planning on returning. There are far better options in the area and within the same price point.

My Mrs. And I went here for a date night that was long over due (4 kids) and it was absolutely an amazing night out. The atmosphere was amazing, the attentiveness of the staff was STELLAR, and the food was beyond delicious. We will definitely be coming back. We have gone a couple of times to the refuge. We ve sat at the bar and we ve dined outside when there is live music. Saturday we got there in time for an hour of live music and amazing food. The fish with grits and lump crab and asparagus is amazing. I ve had it before and knew I wanted it again. I also absolutely love the burrata. Had to do that again. However, Tam (Tamara), made it exceptional. Mind you, we have always had great service. She s personable, fun, sweet, attentive and all around a win for the refuge. Love loved the night!!! She made it extra special.

My mother and I share the same birthday but I lost her back in December. Went here to celebrate my birthday and cheers her up in Heaven. Yes! Go! The Refuge Filet is one of the best steaks Ive had. Short rib poppers mild but good flavor. Enjoyed the Brussels sprouts and mild gouda Mac and cheese. Did not know it came with mashed potatoes and broccolini. Great way to finish off our anniversary dinner with bread pudding. Wonderful display. Im now a lightweight, so I barely noticed my Escape catching up with me it was so smooth. Hubby enjoyed the Texas flight minus my few sips. The 2 I tried were amazing! Id be remiss not to mention our amazing just right attentive server, Eric. We hit right at about 5 but any later Id suggest reservations to be on the safe side. If wasnt so breezy we might have enjoyed an outdoor table with the musician playing.

We had a really wonderful dining experience at Refuge. It was the perfect choice for a quick escape for dinner & drinks on a Saturday evening. Amazing steaks, great cocktails, and stellar service. Everything was cooked & crafted perfectly, and the waitstaff was super attentive. HIGHLIGHTS: - The Coffee Rubbed Beef Brochette is smoky, slightly peppery, and oh so good Worthy of a repeat (many times over)! - The RIBEYE was EXPERTLY cooked. Visited this place numerous times for the signature drinks. It s our anniversary, we decided to drop by 1 hour before closing for 1 nightcap. Unfortunately, no one greeted us when we walked in as they were all busy trying to clean and shut down. I felt unwelcome so decided to get another Uber and had to wait 20 minutes in 50 degree weather, and even when my husband went back in to use the restroom it was like he was the invisible man. Perhaps you should change the hours to 11. Honestly, even during my last visit with my girlfriends, the staff was quite cold. It was disappointing since I usually speak highly of this place.

The Refuge offers a relaxed, low-lit, high-end dining experience. We ordered wine, snapper, and the special which was a well cooked ribeye steak accompanied by crab and shrimp, served over a bed of risotto. The hostess staff sat us right away even though we did not have reservations, as we arrived very early in the evening. The wait staff were all very attentive, polite, and efficient. The food, delicious, properly prepared, and served on temperature. Overall, the experience left us wanting to return and bring our family and friends. We purchased gift boxes of flavor infused bourbon as Christmas gifts.

I visited this restaurant on this past Saturday. We sat in the front bar area so we didnt view the entire restaurant but it was a lovely place. I had requested a booth with my reservation and they had just that waiting on us when we got there. Our server was very sweet. She was extremely helpful and answered all our questions. The parm truffle fries were THE BEST!!!! I ate that more than my burger although the burger was good too. They had a lovely patio with live music. I was really hoping to enjoy that on this visit however it was cold and I didnt want to be outside as that is where the music is. They do have very lovely heat lamps out there so maybe on a less cold night we will be able to enjoy that. Overall a very lovely spot! If you like whiskey and a nice ambiance I dont imagine you would be disappointed. Parking: There are several restaurants in the area but we had no issue at all with parking. In fact we found a spot in the front.

The staff at Refuge recently went above and beyond for a special event that my family planned. My son proposed to his live in the courtyard of the restaurant. They before the proposal had the band ready with some great music to celebrate the occasion. Once she said yes, we were taken to our table in a very nice area f the restaurant and continued to receive stellar service throughout the night. Thank Refuge, staff and band for keeping our secret and making the night the best ever for my son and his future bride.

Stopped in wanting to get out of this Texas heat. I sat in the bar and had the best evening experience. I ordered a specialty whiskey with their signature pecan and cream (very similar to Rumchata) and just wow! Such an amazing drink and needless to say, I lived it! Not wanting to drink on an empty stomach I ordered crab cakes and some other odds and ends. Crab cakes were just yum . Overall the food was awesome; but even better was the service. As soon as I was done with my plate, it was gone need a refill it was there. Service was impeccable and something I d come back for. Highly recommend and definitely suggest the bar area. I d even go as far to say that the service alone (Ie attentiveness to attention) is in my top 3 from Beverly Hills to the Vegas Strip. Definitely recommend!

Great atmosphere and good drinks with decent food. The manager greeted us and advised the staff where to sit us, and the waitress came to provide us with water and told us another waitress would be taking care of us. After about 10 minutes, that waitress said she would take care of us because our waitress did not show up. So the manager sat us at a table for a waitress who was not even on-site; hmm. Our waitress was friendly but could have been more informative about our entree selection, which caused us to be on potato overload. However, our wedge salad was good after you removed the brown top layer. It was interesting that at the time of making the reservation, we were asked if there was any special occasion; we had a birthday, and while we did not want anything special for the occasion, I wondered why The Refuge would ask if there was an occasion and not even recognize the occasion with a thank you for choosing us for your occasion.

We had a a wonderful experience tonight. We Made a reservation for 8:45pm but arrived about an hour prior to see if there was any seating available. The restaurant was packed but the host was so kind and informed us that unfortunately they didn t have any seats available. As we were outside deciding on weather to head to a different restaurant, the host came out and offered to seat us at the bar so we can enjoy a cocktail prior to dinner. This was super impressive! The bar tender was very polite and even while the bar was busy, he kept checking on us. At the bar we ordered the candied pork belly and it was exceptional! We finally got sat at a table right on time for our reservation. We had some more delicious bread and rosemary butter. For dinner we ordered the duck and mushroom risotto as well as the prime pork chop. Both were cooked to perfection and so delicious. For desert we had the bread pudding and wow! It was the best! The service throughout the night was amazing. Can t wait to come back!

The only reason I am giving this place a 4 and not a 5 is because my sirloin was not good. It was cooked as requested (medium) but was really tough, however My partner had a New York strip that was very good. The cocktails are really great, especially the passion & spice if you like spicy drinks. Starters and sides were very nice. Overall environment was also great. The server was new but did an awesome job!

We went to The Refuge for my Wifes birthday and it was amazing. The appetizers, Steaks, Pork Chops, Brussel Sprouts and desserts were fantastic. We had a little fireshow on the amazing bread pudding which was delightful to watch. This was one of our best restaurant experiences and we will be back.

I wish I could give more than 5 stars for the service and bourbon collection. It would have been an extremely enjoyable experience even without the food. I always forget how much quality steaks are in places like Texas, Montana, and a few other cattle producing areas. The refuge is right up there with the best in those states. My only regret is we sat outside, which was a great choice, but later we realized we never made it inside!

We went to The Refuge for my dads birthday. It was our first time. The restaurant was beautiful and our waitress Stephanie was wonderful! The bourbon flight was fun to try and the food came out hot but it was not seasoned. The risotto was mushy. I would return to give it another try.

We had a reservation for 4:30 we arrived at 4:21. We were seated as we sat, we observed servers basically just standing and conversing with others at the bar. A waiter came and assisted the couple next to us but he didn t acknowledge us at all. I guess we were INVISIBLE! Very disappointing because we were looking forward to try the food.

Refuge is the best steakhouse in the back of the Woodlands. The service is top-notch. It is well above mediocre restaurants such as Fieldings in terms of atmosphere and service. The menu is not as vast but is tasty and changes. The bar is on the mid-sized range and can get crowded on weekends during happy hour. Their whiskey selection is second to none in the Woodlands.

Luis and group have created an amazing atmosphere with hand crafted cocktails, 45 day dry aged Steaks at minimum, coal fired grills that put that perfect crust on your steak. I have never been to a restaurant that is about the experience, taste, service and affordable cost than this place. This is absolutely going to be a regular place to dine for me.

A great experience. My wife and I have been to Refuge multiple times over the years and we never cease to be amazed by the food and friendliness that you will find here. The wedge was made for blue cheese lovers (guilty) and is a perfect start to the meal. The pickled onions may seem out of place but trust me and put a few of those on the provided tomatoes for an excellent bite. The steaks are incredible with a crust and flavor that is both savory and sweet. The ribeye is an absolute must and is plenty to share. The cocktails are great with a good selection that rivals a mixology bar. The espresso martini being a classic was exceptional with twists using infused bourbon. The Cooks Clover Club (purple drink pictured below) is a masterclass in a balanced but fragrant cocktail. The experience is also what is most memorable. Ask for Louie and you will quickly understand why this restaurant is a hidden gem. Definitely a good spot for special occasions. Expect to spend about $100 per person which may make it an expensive occasion but you wont leave unfulfilled. Parking: Easily accessible parking in a good location for those traveling from the northwest side of Houston

My wife and I have come here the last three grates for my birthday and it never disappoints. They have a bourbon list that is beyond impressive. The wait staff and management are also very knowledgeable about said bourbon selection and can always point you towards a delicious choice. The food is great, especially their steaks. I always visit The Refuge in The Waterway for the great happy hour but wanted to check out this location. Their food selection is different but happy hour drink specials are the same with $3 wells and $4 wines Tuesday-Saturday 4pm-6pm. I ordered the baked Brie with apricot and it was so delicious. This place was great Our server was very professional and helpful with selections. We ordered the appetizer sampler, and they were my least favorite of the meal (except the crab cakes). This was the worst dining experience we have had in a very long time. We made reservations to celebrate both our anniversary, and our friend s anniversary. We had heard great things from friends who frequent Refuge regularly, and were excited for a night out without our children. When we got to Refuge, we were greeted very nicely and they even acknowledged that we were celebrating two anniversaries. It quickly went downhill from there. We were sat at the worst table (next to the restrooms/kitchen), but I get it, someone has to sit there. There were other tables available, but I didn t want to make a scene since we were with friends. On top of that, it was at least 10 minutes before anyone greeted us at the table. The person that finally came to our table came up and just asked what we wanted to drink. No hello, no introduction of who he was, nothing. When dining at an upscale restaurant, specifically known for their drinks, you would think there would have been some sort of discussion about their cocktails. Drinks were ordered, two came out before the other two, and then we were officially greeted by our waiter. He apologized for the delay, and said he was extremely busy. Ok, so we decided to start off again on a fresh note. We eventually ordered three appetizers, they were all wonderful. Appetizer plates were cleared and we were excited to order our entrees based on what we had up until this point. We ordered a couple more cocktails, and then ordered our entrees. Fresh bread and rosemary butter was brought out, however our bread plates were already taken off the table, clearly we were forgotten about. Drinks came, dinner came. One of the dinner orders was wrong, my friend ordered the Filet Refuge and was served the filet. Two of the three sides we ordered also didn t arrive. It took a while for anyone to come check on us so that we could let them know of these mistakes. We also all had empty glasses, and had to basically flag down our waiter to order more drinks. They offered to bring another filet, but my friend had already started eating and politely declined a new one. They then brought a cold container of the butter that comes on top of the filet, but it wasn t very appetizing to put on a steak that wasn t hot off the grill. Someone then showed up with a new steak, and we told them we hadn t ordered it. They took it back to the kitchen and we could see two women highly annoyed with us, even though we never asked for a new steak. The waiter then brought out the two sides, in to go bags. We tried the truffle fries, because who doesn t love truffle fries. They were room temperature and soggy. The waiter came back, asked if we wanted desert, and at this point we just wanted out. I was disappointed because I was really looking forward to ordering their pecan pie martini that was on their seasonal menu, but after the experience we had so far, it wasn t worth it. Nobody once offered to comp any of the food that we did (and didn t) receive. They didn t offer any type of anniversary desert to make up for their shortcomings. The level of service for what we paid for our dinner was sub-par. Luckily for us, we had great company and enjoyed our evening, despite our experience at Refuge.

We went to this place for a family event. The waiter and atmosphere were outstanding. I cant say much for their steaks. I ordered a ribeye and it was tough with a lot of greasle. The restaurant has not had functioning AC in more than a month. There a portable AC units in each of the dining areas but by 8:15 the temp was 90 Degrees inside. Fortunately there was outside seating and it was a pleasant evening. About 82 with a light drizzle. The Refuge should have fully disclosed when making a reservation so we could have made an informed decision on where we dined. Our wait staff said the only reason they didn t want to tell people about their AC is they didn t want to lose the revenue. Well they got mine tonight but never again

Went on a weekend with no reservation so we had to sit at the bar. Honestly, that wasnt a bad thing because we were well taken care of. Leighton and Ferris provided excellent customer service. I didn t realize it until 30 min before our reservation and called to see if they could accommodate us. Atmosphere and service was great. Drink menu was also great. Extensive selection of bourbon. I had an old fashioned which was excellent. Food was good, but portions were on the small side. I had the Halibut which was good but left me hungry. The wife had a salad which was just ok, nothing great about it. Overall a good place to go and for a night out.
