We ordered sweet-and-sour soup (OK but too much sesame oil), mapo tofu (too soupy, not much flavor), stir-fried green beans (OK but too salty) and shrimp with vegetables (delicious). Definitely a bistro, not a fancy place. Service was good, and food was served fast.

If you grew up eating Chinese Food in the 1970s through 1990s, Shanghai Bistro hits all the right Americanized notes. This restaurant harkens me back to 1983s A Christmas Story, which features all the American favorites like General TSOs, Orange Chicken, classic egg rolls, rice in the box, and all bundled up in a brown paper bag. Generally speaking, all the food is as you would expect. The area has many options for Asian food; this shopping center alone has Japanese (Sakekawa) and Thai (Charm) restaurants. Still, for classic American-style takeout, Shanghai has become our mainstay over other options like Chef Chans. Order ahead; the food will still be piping hot when you get home.

Came based on recommendations. Extremely disappointed. They upcharge for fried rice (no other Chinese restaurant does this). Their must try dish is just fried chicken. I came looking for authentic Chinese food, and didn t find it here. Also was not expecting to listen to rap and hear the F bomb drop the entirety of my lunch.

Honestly, I used to like this place a lot. I order from this restaurant probably once a week since I moved out here, and this last order I had was so awful, it completely ruined the experience for me. I got my usual, the general tsos, and the meat was so dry, chewy and stringy that I couldnt swallow it. I sat for a couple minutes chewing each piece, and ended up just spitting it out. This has been happening more and more frequently, but never this bad. It was obvious that they had just given me some old food that had been sitting around for a few hours, possibly from lunch. This place is generally fine (other than one of the workers being pretty rude if you encounter him for a to-go order, but that never really ruined it for me). I wish them luck, as the rest of the staff seems really friendly and nice, but I most likely will not be ordering from here anymore. When its good, its great. When its bad, its horrible. Edit: 4/6/2024 Been going here still off and on since my last review, and generally its pretty average lately (if not inconsistent), but Im going to stop coming here. Got some egg drop soup, and the egg ribbons had black mold on them, and there was a gnat at the bottom of the soup. I get that mistakes happen, but black mold on egg ribbons makes it seem like pots arent being cleaned properly, which, if thats the case, is pretty gross. The people here are nice, so I feel bad, but the gross egg ribbons and bug was really the last straw.

Weve been eating here for over a year. The food has always been high quality and prepared promptly. The service is great, as well. Owner Cindy is charming and helpful. There are some great restaurants in The Woodlands, but you wont find a much better combination of quality and service. The only thing I would suggest is a little better selection of wine. D Smith

Found this little restaurant while searching for Asian buffets. Even though it is NOT a buffet, it is a good place to eat. I took my dad here and we both enjoyed it. We went on a Thursday during lunch time and there was only a couple of other customers present. For how good the food is you would think they would ve been packed during lunch. (They did get a lot of to go orders by phone while we were there) This just allowed the waitress to attend to us quickly. We choose from their lunch menu and selected chicken lo mien and szechuan beef plates. Both came with fried rice, fried spring roll, and a soup. We choose the egg drop soup. It was all good, especially that egg drop soup. My meal was under $10 and my dad s was around $12. They have vegetarian options as well. I recommend going here. Unfortunately, I didn t take any pictures this time.

My orange chicken dinner special was could ve been enough for 2. And the Singapore noodles (which are delicious, but very spicy!!) can easily serve 2 or 3 as a side item. I would say this is one of, if not the best Chinese restaurant in The Woodlands. Delicious food, quick and friendly service five stars all around.

I really like this place, and Ive been ordering from here on and off for years. Ive mostly done takeaway, but have dined in a few times. The only negative thing that comes to mind is the restaurant occasionally smells of cleaning chemicals, but I never found that offensive, especially given alternative smells a restaurant could have. Id rather it be clean. I most often get mapo tofu with pork, orange chicken, and beef with broccoli. All of which are decent enough to bring me back. Mapo tofu in my limited experience can be pretty hit or miss, but I really like theirs. I dont know that its going to compete with the best of the best, but this is a favorite, consistent, and reliable restaurant for me, which Id recommend. I noticed some negative reviews mentioning the staff rudeness. The worst Ive seen is shortness and efficiency. On average, everyones been very nice and pleasant, and I actually like the shortness on the phone. It makes for a very efficient ping-pong like ordering experience that doesnt waste time. My guess is people are mistaking shortness for rudeness, but Ive never gotten the impression anyone was aiming to be rude. Parking: Its in a strip center, and Ive never seen a parking issue here. Kid-friendliness: I dont know that its overly kid friendly (if your kid has trouble sitting still, this isnt a great choice), but my kid did okay. And, one time, a waitress was exceptionally nice to him.

While in the vicinity during my work hours, I sought a change in my lunch routine and was drawn to this establishment due to its abundance of positive reviews. Upon my arrival, I discovered a well-maintained restaurant with a tidy and inviting atmosphere, offering an appealing array of lunch options. Although I initially enjoyed the sweet and sour chicken, I harbor some reservations about it being the optimal choice. The lunch menu featured three soup options, accompanied by a spring roll, and the rice selection could be substituted with noodles, evidently. The food was served promptly and piping hot, and the prices were reasonably competitive for the area. The customer service was nothing short of exceptional, truly impeccable. I would have awarded this place a perfect 5/5 rating had I chosen something more to my personal liking. I intend to delve further into the menu and amend this review if necessary. Overall, it presents itself as a promising dining option.

Real solid. Saw some negative reviews comparing it to Panda Express, not sure why. I had the combo fried rice and Mongolian beef. The fried rice was ok but seemed a bit dry and missing something, until I mixed it with the sauce from the Mongolian Beef, which was what it needed, it tasted good. Quality of the meat tasted well also. I found the portions nice and big and filling, would definitely recommend this place, and will be going back.

Terrible, the customer service was absolutely terrible!!! Was told by the phone order taker today that although my order was incorrect that she had another customer even though the inside was empty. Was also told that my $40 order for 2 entrees had an $8 up charge for lo mein instead of rice. Also informed after returning into the store after checking my order that I was only entitled to 2 pieces of mushrooms in my order even if I couldnt see any!

You were so kind!

Very disappointed! Crispy Chicken was obviously frozen, doughy, microwaved with processed chicken, wonton meat was rubbery, no taste, Spring roll veggies were mush.

They have some items I like a lot: Shanghai Special Spare Ribs made with cumin and cilantro, Crispy Chili Chicken with szechuan peppers, and their Twice Cooked Pork with large pieces of pork belly. Wonton soup is also good. Ive had pretty disappointing experiences with their Americanized dishes. Orange Beef was over-breaded, over-sauced, and a soggy mess. Mu Shu was similarly saucy and lacking flavor and texture. Singapore Noodles, Cumin Beef, Mongolian Beef, etc all can be found in better versions elsewhere. But those Spare Ribs will bring me back for sure.

We love Shanghai Bistro. This is my kids favourite Chinese restaurant. We sometimes try other places but they always come back to the same conclusion - Shanghai Bistro is the best. The food is great, the staff is very friendly and the orders are always on time.

I liked the quality of the chicken, it was crispy and tender. However the only thing that put me off were the sauces used. They were a bit too sour for my liking, and didnt taste like General Tsos chicken.

Probably won t go back. The food was pretty mediocre. Would give more stars if the food wasn t so expensive! $51 for 3 entrees and 4 drinks. That s crazy - especially for the food content being chicken and rice. Waiter didn t clear the dishes and was struggling to find a place to set the check down. He finally took the hint when my wife neatly stacked them up for him. I know COVID was rough on the food industry but everyone is feeling it. I m not going to come eat mediocre food with mediocre service and pay that much for it - sorry.
