Everything was excellent, very authentic tasting food. Tacos ahogados (drowned tacos) are my husbands favorite. Crispy pork belly topping crunchy potato tacos with the right balance of cabbage. The cocinita pibil tamale was tender and amazing! Drinks were tasty and refreshing. Happy hour is very reasonably priced and great selection. Its from 2pm to 6pm Monday through Friday. They also have live mariachi on Thursdays. Try the atole, the mazapán flavor was rich and sweet, very yummy! Also, try the café de olla with rompope as a topping, it is a custardy eggnog with rich spices, delicious! P. S. Dont sleep on the Trompo Negro tacos in the month of October!

Please make sure you order something you like even though you ve never been to the place. My friend did not even touch his quesadillas based on the appearance & was denied a refund for them. The server continued to say he did not care and was not his fault he ordered something he did not like & he must pay in full regardless which he was charged $2 extra then the menu stated. Very unprofessional! Servers name was Juan

I have high expectations for this place. The hostess was a little bit rude. She forced us to sit in a place we didnt like because of the restaurants many reservations, we ask for another table. The truth is that the restaurant was half empty while we were eating. Our server did a great job. The food was ok, not what were were told. I will recomennd to have a more welcoming people.

The entire experience was really lovely from start to finish. My only qualm is the seating arrangement is a little cramped. We had been seated in an area where we basically watched the person in front of us eat their lunch and had another party of four within arms reach. I would be less willing to come here in the evening, as I can imagine that it gets full to the brim with patrons. Waitstaff was some of the best Ive ever seen, hands down.

Being a native Mexican, I truly wanted to love this place based on the pictures and the variety of unique dishes being offered. The customer service is quite awful, the wait staff seems pretty disengaged and showed no effort to be friendly or attentive. The dishes presentation is amazing, however, the dishes we ordered lacked flavor, and the salsas were pretty bland. This place is beautiful and has a lot of potential. I hope they can improve both their customer service and their food flavors.

I cant speak about the food in general because I only tried the chile en nogada and I honestly DO NOT RECOMMEND IT. Its not like the original chile en nogada that has ground beef with this sweet and salty mix of ingredients. The sauce they put on it is good but when you realize that it is shredded beef you are greatly disappointed and EXPENSIVE on top of that. It is likely that there are other very delicious options but NOT CHILE in NOGADA! The atmosphere and service very good.

Have been several times now on Wednesday for Bohemia night and Thursday for mariachi night. I bring corporate clients and every time they are very satisfied and impressed. Drinks, wine, service, and even desserts are always great. We always tend to migrate to the bar or even sometimes do full service at the bar and every time Gustavo remembers us and is very inviting and with great suggestions. Even got my client to try some gourmet insects they have to offer and he loved them and always talks about that experience. Thank you for always making an impression Gustavo and management who also made us feel very welcome when we didn t realize we had stayed past closing one night. Can t rave about the ambiance enough. Another special touch in the bathroom the faucet shows you w color what temp the water is. Nice touch. Can t wait to go back everytime always an experience. Great food, ambience, and culture.

Waited 5 min before the waiter came to introduce himself. Food was ok. The best dish was Chamorro de Puerco, it had a nice flavor and Mole which wasn t too sweet and had a good flavor. Did not like the fish appetizer, it had no flavor just tasted fishy. We ordered an additional appetizer which wasn t put into the order at the beginning. We knew this because the waiter mentioned it twice (once after the appetizers were brought out and when our main dish arrived). The appetizer didn t get to our table until we were halfway done with our main course. It arrived and had a good presentation but it lacked in flavor. When it came to paying our bill the waiter came back saying that one of our cards had declined. The person this happened to checks his account on the spot and saw that the charge did in fact go through. He didn t argue it and decided to just pay again (they are still having trouble retrieving their money). When they came back to the table the waiter did not leave until all of us signed our bill. This made us feel really uncomfortable, I was honestly not going to leave a tip, but I did the right thing and did anyways. I wouldn t go back. Being in the Woodlands you would think that we would ve had a better experience but it was honestly a waste of money.

Food and drinks were SO good. Real authentic Mexican food. The place is beautifully decorated. We had a large group, which we made reservations for, and got seated on time. The waitress was quick and attentive. The kids menu has some good choices and it comes with a treat. The food did take a little bit of time to come out, but everything is so fresh and carefully made I expect it takes time to make all the dishes come out so good. On top of that it was a full house. Every single table was occupied, and a new group would come in as soon as a table became available. Even with that we never felt like we were forgotten or ignored. Overall all excellent food AND service. This is my second time at the restaurant and I have nothing but good feelings about it. I strongly recommend making reservations, otherwise the wait time is very long. Kid-friendliness: Good kids menu with a treat.

Just had Xalisko cater a party on our house. Overall great experience! I worked with Ximena through the whole process and she was awesome. There are many great menu options to chose from. We went with tacos, sopecitos, and tamales. The tamales were pretty unique in that theyre shapped like corn on the cob. Also had guacamole, totopos, and three different salsas. Everything was delicious! Ximena brought the food and set everything up in our kitchen with chafers and special displays. It looked really nice. All the guests loved it! Great food. Awful reservation process. We booked a table for 4 at 7:30 last night, and 45 min later we re still waiting to be seated, in a crowded and unbearable cold area at the entrance. We ended up leaving as the reception desk ladies were unable to tell us how much longer it was going to be. We had had brunch there last weekend and loved the food, but if this place is really interested in the overall customer experience, they should urgently revisit their booking process, waiting area space, and the acoustic (ambient noise makes impossible to talk to anyone there). Kudos to chef, a very poor rating for the service and experience overall, though.

First time coming here and will definitely visit again. This is a restaurant that features high end southern Mexican food served with obvious pride in their cuisine and technique, while paying homage to the history of the meal. The food was amazing and the presentation was picture worthy. My only complaint is that even with a reservation there was a significant wait and its so loud during peak evening hours that you have to shout to be heard. We went to this establishment on 8/17/24. Walking I thought it was beautiful place! It was packed and I am glad that I made a reservation. Once we got seated though the service from out waiter was just not good. The server did not greet us or welcome us, and I figured he is busy not a big deal. But he did not make an effort at all to show any type of welcoming environment or customer service. He just came and asked us what we wanted to order and that was it. What really bothered me was the fact that I saw him interact in very different manner with the table behind us that he was also serving. He was very chatty and talkative with them. It seemed like with the other table he was a completely different person. It really bothered me because it seemed like he was judging us by how we looked. The food was amazing! We loved it, but the service from our waiter was just not good. I will return but in hopes of having another waiter.

We ve visited this location a few times. The first time we found the food to have real authentic flavors compared to other places serving similar food. We decided to return during the week for dinner, Thursday to be exact. However we never made it to our dinner. Waited to be called 30 minutes. We decided to call to check on the status after not receiving a call/text. They said a text was sent which we never received. The blame was placed on the poor WiFi signal. The young hosts up front were not welcoming and honesty seemed to have some type of attitude. It could have been the way I was dressed (casual) which really shouldn t matter. I believe that if you put the same effort on making sure the food taste great please place the same efforts on training your employees/staff to treat customers with courtesy. Your hosts are the first impression one gets when walking in to the restaurant.

Food was flavorful, we came with a party of 8 and some of us had the Houston Restaurant Week Menu. The food was very slow to arrive with long stretches of waiting in between appetizers and main meals. The aguas frescas were ok and small serving size. However, the biggest disappointment was the service we received. I asked our waiter about the guacamole and tostadas to share but he refused to tell me if the portion was enough for a couple of people saying he didn t know how much people ate. When we placed the order for drinks I asked if they had horchata and he said no, however, when the drinks came out he brought 2 of our party strawberry horchata drinks! Perplexing for sure and the service continued to be poor throughout our dinner including just getting our check. I think part of the reason he can get away with the poor service is that he s getting 20% tip just based on our party size. Overall, I will not be coming back for this kind of service, thankfully Houston has many other restaurants with great food and better service.

reserved a table to celebrate my moms birthday. Great ambiance with live music. However, definitely did not live up to my expectations. Food: Brunch menu had limited non-pork items. if you prefer chicken, I personally would not recommend coming here. Thankfully there were seafood options. We got the aguachile de verde which was nice and fresh. Enough to share for 2 people. I wanted a coffee but the waiter said they only had cafe de olla and no regular brewed black coffee. However, the table next to us a few mins later got a fresh pot of coffee. I couldnt do anything at that point bc the cafe de olla was already delivered. We placed our entire food order all in one go but the mains took forever to be brought out. I made it clear we do not eat pork but they did bring out my dish which had bacon on it. The salmon was very dry so if you are considering it, I personally would not recommend it. Lastly, I did bring a cake in for my moms birthday so they were nice enough to bring it out and light the candles. As a heads up, if you are bringing a cake / dessert in, you will have to sign a waiver at the front. Service: Staff was not very welcoming when we walked in. Understandable that there was a large party waiting in the lobby but I expect a kind greeting when I walk into a restaurant, a smile at the bare minimum. We were escorted to our table and given only drink menus, no food menus. We waited a good 10 mins and couldnt find a waiter to bring us food menus. Had to look it up online instead. Our waiter was not the friendliest. No introduction, no welcome, nothing about the menu, no alternatives when we shared our dietary restrictions. Just very short and we could barely find him throughout our visit. Ambiance: Overall, it was nice. The live harpist was a nice touch. Unfortunately, our table was sat under the AC vent which was leaking on our table and my brother sitting next to me. We requested to move and the team accommodated us to a new table. We left our drinks and silverware at the old table expecting that we would get new ones. They brought over the old drinks (half empty) to us and no napkins. Again, our server was no where to be found so had to ask the hostess for napkins. Overall, I would not say I would come back nor recommend it. We paid $122 (for 4 people and only 1 appetizer). It was definitely not worth the money for the portions, food, or service. Ive been to many types of places - Michelin star restaurants to hole-in-the-wall places and have spent less money and received 10x better service, food and overall experience. Definitely not a place I would recommend if you are celebrating something special or hoping to make it a special experience for someone you care about.

We had been planning to try this place for a while and glad we finally did. Food was nice more traditional mexico vs. Tex mex. We had the pastor that is cut and presented at the table. It was enough for 2-3 people. The mole is nice and the frozen margaritas are well done and $7 so a great price considering the setting with live music We will be coming often!

What an incredible, authentic Mexican restaurant that we are lucky to have in The Woodlands. The special squash blossom menu is amazing hands down the best tamale I ve ever had, including the years I lived in Mexico. Super excited to come back in August as many times as possible to check out their Houston Restaurant Week menu!

I recently dined at Xalisko and found it quite disappointing. The food lacked the authentic traditional Mexican flavors I was expecting. The restaurant seemed to prioritize being fancy and different by mixing various flavors, but the result was bland and unappealing. I couldnt even finish my meal and didnt want to touch it. Even the strawberry horchata tasted off, like watered-down strawberry seeds with pink food coloring. Additionally, I had requested a birthday cake, but I was told that the choice of cake was entirely up to the chef. This policy is baffling, as it doesn t consider potential allergies or ARFID, which might prevent some customers from being able to eat what is offered. To add to the experience, our server was not knowledgeable about the menu, making it difficult for us to get any helpful recommendations as first-time visitors. Furthermore, I tried calling multiple days to reserve a table and ask questions, but no one answered. Their voicemail has been full for the past four days. Overall, my experience at xalisko did not meet my expectations, and I left feeling quite disappointed.

We were excited to finally be able to try Xalisko. So made it a special occasion, while we were unable to set a reservation. We were still able to come and enjoy the food we were looking forward to. The two complaints are that the service was definitely a miss. I wouldn t suggest sitting at the bar at all. While we had a number of different people attempt to help, serve, place order, pay, etc. Some didn t speak a word of English, which made communication difficult. Most of the time we were sitting waiting to get someone s attention. We waited over an hour for our food. When asked how much longer, we ordered appetizers, which never came. Food eventually arrived. Watching people who arrived after us get plated before us. Would have been nice to ask to bring everyone else s if the Trompo was taking extra time. If I knew it would take so long, I would have ordered something else. With that said, the over all experience was still a positive one. The food was full of flavor, each bite was just delicious. Down to the 3 salsa s, we re just filled with great flavors. The green one was our favorite. Along with the fresh corn tortillas, just hit the spot. I m not a fan of Mole, but this Mole was on point! It s something I could eat often. It was a pleasant surprise. If you plan to stop by, make sure to make a reservation! They did not have any tables for us as walk-ins. There was a huge crowd on our exit waiting at the front just to sit at 8pm. So be prepared to wait if you don t go prepared. Until next time. Parking: It s a very small parking lot, be prepared to park across the street if it s full. Especially in the evening it was packed.

This restaurant is next to Woodland s Mall. The front staff greeted us with a smile, the only staff that smiled. The food is good, especially the homemade corn tortillas that complement the Trompito aL Pastor. The three salsas are all spicy, and we wish there was a non-spicy salsa option. I give good service to the staff that filled our water; they are so attentive.

Barrel chairs are uncomfortably hard to sit in. Maybe add a cushion. Food was unusual but good. Fresh oysters were definitely our favorite over the grilled oysters due to the red sauce that was just too thick and overwhelming. The trio salsas was a favorite with all three of us. The lobster soup again the thick base overwhelming for the small piece of lobster. Definitely will come back. Pricey yes we spent over 200 dollars on lunch for 3 people. The additional fee to have a drink in a to go cup was insulting and almost a game changer when we considered if we would attempt another meal. Management should be made aware that a request for a to go drink after we spent 2 hrs in your restaurant and 2 of us never got a refill on the drinks we ordered at our table was a bit over the top

This authentic Mexican restaurant may finally break the curse of a string of rotating restaurants at this location. The food and even reading the menu may need to be more authentic for some; I spent a good bit of time examining the menu. Dont expect a typical Tex-Mex experience; this is the real deal. The restaurant is sometimes an odd mixture of formal and casual, most oddly, with laminated menus that dont fit the quality (and price) of the food and restaurant. The food is traditional, in pretty small portions, and at elevated prices, but it was still filling and enjoyable despite the size. The restaurant itself is hardly recognizable from its previous tenants; they transformed this space to fit with the authentic nature of the food. The vibe is mellow and relaxed; you will be fine in a t-shirt or shorts, and the bar has TVs showing sports broadcasts. The staff fits the authenticity of the food; they arent just serving it; this is their food, and they know it well. The staff makes navigating the menu more accessible. The price may be high compared to Tex-Mex alternatives; this is a premium restaurant despite the casual customers. This restaurant is extremely well done; the real question you have to ask yourself is if you want an authentic experience. I enjoyed it, but I love Tex-Mex. Vegetarian options: The menu offers many options for vegetarian and vegan eaters, which surprised me since there is so much meat on the menu. Dietary restrictions: Gluten Free, Nut Allergies, Vegan, and Cegutarian options.

We did not feel rushed once, and were able to take our time and enjoy every minute. The trompito al pastor was juicy, hot, and exploding with flavors - without being overseasoned. We tried multiple desserts and all were amazing. Presentation was beautiful, with every component adding to a complex, yet balanced variety of flavors and textures. Great birthday experience, will definitely be recommending to others and will be back!

This place looks good on social media. Thats it. THE REAL experience, Im sorry its a no for me. The layout they want is too too small for the space they have. I cant imagine how tight walkways are when extremely crowded. Those with wheelchair/walkers, good luck, and I suggest reporting to ADA, to check theyre up to code. We should have left right then and there. My son, with a disability thats not visible, does not eat large meals, its agaisnt the law to ask what the condition/s are and a ADA violation not to accommodate. We asked for a kids menu. My server, was rude, and he probably thought we couldnt understand him, as he was walking away, stated para que vienen, in other words why bother coming. First and last time there.

First time there, a very small place, and Food I ordered was good, but the server killed the experience. For 1. telling a customer they cant order from a kids menu, because they deemed the child isnt a child, just bc they dont look like a child. Even after Ive stated the age, he makes a remark if you want to play that game. That was completely uncalled for! Like sir, you dont know what disabilities are going on, just because they dont look how you expect. And 2, the trompito was ordered, I wanted to see that mini show, but No warning given, thankfully I was still able to catch it on time to enjoy it. If management wants to give training or reiterate training to this individual, Ill share the video of who stated this comment.

This place was way too crowded! You could barely walk around the tables to go to the bathroom they set up too many tables and might no comply with ADA. The food was just OK no really impressed with it. The cocktail (Daiquiri) that my wife ordered was very bad prepared my wife could not drink it and we still have to pay for it. The only plate I would probably recommend is the trompitos al pastor, these were well cocked, tasted ok and served with tortillas. I might not come back to this place. Wheelchair accessibility: No ADA compliant. Tables set up too close to each other.

This restaurant is very lively and colorful. They have a ton of different tequilas and wines to choose from. Our appetizers were the shrimp aguachiles, they come with sliced cucumbers , avocado and tostadas. The lime aguachiles sauce is really tart and good, I definitely recommend. We also ordered the salsas and tostadas, it comes with three salsas. One of them was red which was authentic rustic salsa that I think had xoconostle prickly pear but I could be wrong. The other two salsas were just alright, the rest of my party agreed they were sweet. The food is ok, I had the brunch flautas with papa s enchiladas. Both my friend and I had the same plate and it was good but I would order the sauce and crema on the side because it made them soggy. The potatoes were mushy not crunchy and I couldn t tell what kind of spice they used but it reminded of chorizo flavor Enmoladas were more of a red sauce so they tasted more like red enchiladas than the typical brown Mexican mole.. My friend said her chilaquiles were good but that the cecina was just bland bistec cause it wasn t thin enough or cured like typical cecina. I will say their presentation was beautiful and the desserts were all super good. The guayaba cheesecake had real fruit purée and adorned edible flowers. We ordered the amaranth seeds on the side but it typically comes sprinkled on top. The flan de cafe was really beautiful and it tasted great. It was the perfect creamy texture a with a hint of coffee syrup. The flan was decorated with a little chocolate and cherry cotton candy tree which was an unexpected treat. We finished the meal with the cafe de olla which is soooo good and authentic. It has cinnamon notes and it come with a little cookie. I would like to come back but try maybe a couple different things .

If you love Mexican food that is authentic and delicious you must come here. Granted it is a bit pricey but uts totally worth it. My mom is hard-core Mexican and she never really enjoys Mexican restaurants because she knows what its SUPPOSED to taste like and no other place has really wowed her theres usually one thing she likes most of it she does not but here Every. Single. Thing. She tried she fell in love with! From drinks to sides to the salsas which shes always so picky about to the desserts I mean absolutely everything she loved it all, we all did and our server Ximena was so sweet and so helpful the gentle man she was working with was also super kind (unfortunately I didnt hear his name when he introduced himself) but they both did a great job. I will say the food took a minute to come out and it came out In parts but to be fair we were a group of about 35 people and Im sure they dont quite have a system worked out for parties that big so thats Understandable but I would most definitely come back here again! Kid-friendliness: I wish they had more options for the kids menu my nephews ate very finicky and unfortunately they dont always enjoy the normal menus so they were looking for more kid traditional entrées rather than Mexican traditional foods but either way they enjoyed their meal and had a good time. Especially when the desserts came out

We ordered the trompito and he just lit it, cut a few little pieces of meat then lit it again and just walked away without saying anything. Lupe never bothered attending us but he was constantly checking up on the table behind us and the one on our right. We never got refills on our drink, he never asked how anything was going, and he took forever to bring us the check and the to go box. Even when he took the check he was still attending the other tables and would keep passing us up. I will come again but Lupe needs to check on all his tables.

I was super excited to try an upscale restaurant bracing Mexican culture and heritage through food. Service was slow. We had the fresh oysters and they were fresh and large. The green sauce blew my pallet but the other was a great balance of flavors. I ordered a squash blossom taco that had octopus (extremely tough and chewy like bubble gum) and shrimp. If it has cream cheese in it, the flavor is extremely muted. The tortilla itself has a squash blossom spread out and pressed into the tortilla. Brilliant idea despite the tortilla being ice cold and tough. I did not enjoy the inedible garnish of corn husks as the first thing my grandson tried to eat. The black garlic aoli was indeed an aoli, though I question if there was any black garlic let alone garlic flavoring it in. It reminded me of a squid ink aoli. After the tip and a great mimosa, the final bill was not worth the quality of the food.
