About the Company

The Texas City Museum is the center of history, culture and heritage for the people of Texas City. We seek to educate and enlighten visitors as we become a premier destination museum by creating an engaging museum experience for all. The Galveston County Model Railroad Club Exhibit is also open each Saturday on the second floor of the museum. The Texas City Museum is supported by the City of Texas City. Located at 409 6th Street North, the Museum acquired its current building in March 1992. The 30,000-square-foot building, previously a J.C. Penney store, was donated by the McDaniel family. Since its opening in March 1994, visitors from around the United States and abroad have toured the Museum.

Boy did we make some great memories here . The train exhibition on Saturdays is a must see . My 5 year old nephew & I had a ball exploring all the details from Superman flying up above to an alien spaceship landing . There are buttons to press which makes for a fun interactive and engaging display . We then explored the rest of the museum which also featured another area that kids can play with legos and magnets . We learned a lot of Texas City too that we didn t know before our visit . Very reasonable price and it was nice & cool inside too . Clean bathrooms too . Thank you for a great time . We can t wait to spread the word about our experience .

We had such fun visiting this often overlooked museum. It normally has some great details about Texas City history but just the general attitude and demeanor of the people at the time. It also had the toy train railroad museum which is so cool to see! If you like train sets this is a must-see!

Nice place for a history lesson on Texas city its got a nice interactive area for the kids where they can color and look around and mess with stuff. Went during one of the free days but ticket prices did not look expensive when going in and it would be a moneys worth. Worth a visit if your in the area!

Very disappointed. I went to see their Quilt Display. From what I can see there was only about 10 quilts displayed. Told the host that my niece let me know about the Quilt display at the museum. Then she told me if my niece was with me that I could have got in for free. What is the point? Anyways, I could go into a Quilt store that has more on display than what they did. I didnt travel all this way to get out in the rain to get treated rudely. Not paying 7.00 to look at something that should be for free or simply should have a donation jar available. I wont be back.

Its a small museum but well worth a visit, I recently got to go with my partner, nephews, and brother-in-law and we enjoyed ourselves very much and learned some interesting facts about texas City along the way! I do recommend going on a Saturday if you want to check out the model train displays though because we went on a Wednesday and didnt realize until we got there that that portion is only open on Saturdays but we still had a blast and are already planning our next visit!

The volunteer who led us through the museum (I believe her name was Ruth) was knowledgeable and kind. She made everyone feel welcome and shared many facts with the kids and adults. Our group also enjoyed the model train setup and the men who ran it. They seemed genuinely happy to share their models with the children. Unfortunately, the two ladies working the front desk spoke rather harshly to several people in our group, which was unpleasant and made a few of the children uncomfortable. The overall experience was good, but aside from the volunteers, the staff wasnt very welcoming. Im sure they are used to large school groups being loud and maybe unruly, but our homeschool group was small, well-behaved, and undeserving of the sharp tone and pushiness we received.

What a great museum. As museums, this one is laid out very nice and takes you through the cities history. It is a story that affected a lot of how things work today. But the real gem is the floor dedicated to railroad miniatures. I have paid a lot more to see a lot less. The best miniature trains Ive seen.

The Texas City Museum seems a small museum, but it is a place where both emotions and intellect are challenged. A few of the special exhibits in the museum are: 1947 Texas City Disaster films, photographs and artifacts; City Founding: Texas City from beginning to present; Dahlgren Cannon from the U.S.S. Westfield and First Aero Squadron.Just like museum owner stated The Texas City Museum is the center of history, culture, and heritage for the people of Texas City.

For a small town like Texas City, youll be surprised how awesome and extensive this museum actually is until you visit it. This town still remains to be the location of the worst industrial accident in the USA to date, from 1947, when two ships at the small port blew up . Theres a lot if history in this rich little town starting with artifacts from the civil war, and was the location of the first air force squadron in Texas! And to my knowledge this city still has the longest man made fishing pier in the world called the dike. Go and see for yourself. Allow yourself about 2 hours if you like to read all the articles, watch the films, and look at the artifacts galore!
