I always drove past it but never notice it. Untill my cousin invited me there.Its a cool little spot in Temple, Texas on HK Dodgen Loop just a little pass Lowes. I can only speak for what I had. It was good for 16 dollars and some chang. Only problem I had?...was maybe there should be a drink that comes with orders over $15.00. A great place to eat and I recommend it for everyone.

***CAUTION*** FOOD POISONING*** My family dined in at this establishment on October 30th. We ordered fish fillet with shrimps, hush puppies and fries. All was good until the next morning. I started vomiting in the middle of the night. I didnt think nothing of it, until my 1 year old started to vomit as well. Anyone with children would know how angry any parent would be if an establishment failed to upkeep their facility and caused their baby to become sick. We ultimately had food poisoning and we were out of commission for 2 days. Mind you this is Labor day weekend! I called the establishment the next day. Explained what happened to the employee and they said the manager Mo would be there by 1pm. I called at 2pm and explained the situation again to another employee and they said the manager isnt there and they dont know what time or if they will be there that day at all. I gave up calling again. It became pretty obvious that this business does not care that their customers are getting sick. Wish we wouldve checked their prior one reviews, as they mention food poisoning as well. The owners need to own up to the situation and resolve it immediately and apologize. Something which is not seen in any of their feedback. I will be focusing my energy in reporting this to the health department. As a first time father, it was almost terrifying seeing my one year old having food poisoning. I wish this situation on no one and would recommend against eating at this establishment.

This place has changed drastically. My husband and I got 10pc wings each, he had corn and green beans and I had corn and fries. I specifically asked for all flats and I only had 3 flat and rest huge drumettes tossed in Buffalo sauce which normally comes in a container on the side. My fries which also changed from the norm, were under the wings getting steamy and soggy. The mozzarella STICKS were actually cheese curds. 35$ in the trash...literally. this was my favorite place until all the gradual changes. We threw the food away because it was definitely not made with love.

My biggest complaint there wet too many flies! I was conflicted about what to order so I too a chance and tried the Philly cheesesteak. The waitress was friendly but she came back to the table too much. I just wanted to take my time and enjoy my birthday. She was very attentive unlike some other places you go too. I enjoyed the quietness with some of my fav music playing. This was my first visit and it was definitely alright.

If I could give negative stars I would. This was the worst experience the food was horrible fish so over cooked you couldnt but it my husbands grilled shrimp look like it was smashed on a griddle and kicked around. Chicken had no flavor the ranch was rancid and when they brought our food out the brought a cloud of gnats with it. The service was horrible and the manager seemed like he had no idea what he was doing and I asked 3 times what kind of fish it was to be told catfish it is not catfish!

Your menu states red beans and rice. This is second time weve received our orders with freholle beans and rice, with spicy red chareso type oil floating on top of the dish. Im (were) not a fan of spicy food. Im not into purchasing heartburn. Please consider standardizing you cooking process, or change your menu to a customer choice. UPDATE We hadnt been here in a very long time. But everything was still really, really good. I got #27, 3 fish, 3 shrimp, Cole slaw, fries...my son got #19, 2 fish, 6 shrimp, Cole slaw and fries. My husband got the Southern single hamburger and fries. I had mine grilled. Everything was so good. Im sure well be back really soon. If I could give 10 Stars I would. I have never eaten there before but everything my son and I got was so good. I had the grilled fish and shrimp. And there was so much that I had another meal out of it. My son had the crawfish Po Boy. We did not dine in because I am so afraid to do that so we did take it home. The only thing I did not like very well red beans and rice. The beans just had too much of a smoky flavor for me. But thats just my opinion other people may like it. We will definitely be back again

We stopped at Sams Southern Eatery as we were passing through town. We are so glad we did! This place is a 10/10! The sweet tea was freshly brewed and perfectly sweet. We ordered the fried catfish, fried oysters and fried green tomatoes. Each one was the best that Ive had in any of those categories. Flavored and fried to complete perfection. The catfish was light and fluffy and crispy on the outside. The red beans and rice were also spectacular. Even though they were a side, they have main dish energy! The price point is absolutely fair. This place is a jewel. I highly recommend!!

My only complaint was the food tasted so good, i scarfed it down, therefore I wasnt able to savor it like I wanted. Every bite was delicious. Suggestion: think about adding greens and/or fried okra to your menu as sides. And deserts wouldnt hurt either (maybe pecan pie or peach cobbler with ice cream). If you want real sourthern cooking, not cajun, then this is the place to go. Cant wait for my next visit.

NOBODY DESERVES TO PAY FOR FOOD POISONING!! I appreciate the owner for embarrassing themselves and their chain with their most recent reply to the review before mine. I came to share my wrongful experience and noticed on the most recent review the owner had assumed they were replying to me, but instead backlashed to a customer sharing a similar food poisoning experience as mine. The owner should have known they were not addressing the correct customer since they are supposedly contacting local PD. My full legal name is clearly printed on both my receipt and their merchant copy from the credit card I had used that day. Very embarrassing behavior for the owner, but matches the store s values spot on. I ve attached a photo in case they decide to remove their mistake. The owner s reply to this customer s review is not only unprofessional and child-like, but distasteful to say the least! (pun intended) Long story short, I received food poisoning from a few bites of the terrible food served at this location. I am certain it was their food because it was the only food I had consumed, and vomited. I returned the next day to request a refund but was blatantly disrespected and ignored. After being treated such ways by the staff, I realized the food spoilage issue would definitely remain unaddressed and harm future customers consuming the same food I had one day prior. I decided to make a public announcement, strictly out of concern for the general health, standing on a chair which was conveniently already pulled out from the table, meaning I did not have to touch it. I politely informed the audience to take caution in what they consume because I got very sick the day before. Many customers were interested in what I had to say and even asked further questions on specifics. After briefly satisfying the customers I left on my own accounts without feeling unwelcome by a single customer or staff whom did not ask me to leave once. I encourage the owner to review the many cameras accessible and reword their dramatic statements about standing on tables and throwing chairs . In addition, food poisoning occurs as early as 1 hour after consumption, but the owner ignorantly states otherwise even giving specific time frames of at least 24hrs-48hrs before receiving effects. I hope they educate themselves on food safety considering the multiple reviews about spoiled food dating back considerably far. Assuming the owner is reading this, feel free to fact check my statement with the CDC, NHS, or other credited health institutions. Furthermore, I do not find customer health concerns comical and would not expect the owner to either, especially being the person managing food preparation and store cleanliness. I do not find humor in getting really sick from ingesting consumables I believe are safe, and i m sure the customers before me do not as well. The only person I would recommend this place to is a health inspector, which I have. Keep your body and wallet healthy by staying far from this location. A message to the owner: Maybe spend less time writing sassy replies and focus more on customer health. Don t worry about receiving future business from me or any of my associates. The decision to never try this Sams again was decided, within the first few bites, far before you could have thought to include that in your silly, misaimed reply.

I should have noticed the reviews about spoiled food and food poisoning before spending $30 on really dry catfish and shrimp cooked in dirty grease that you can smell with every bite. I only ate about a fourth of the meal before throwing everything outside from disappointment and disgust. I started feeling sick immediately and woke up vomiting that same night with food poisoning. Extremely overpriced for the quality and portion size as well. The sides were a fraction of what wouldve been served had I gone in instead of calling in for take out. Save yourself the trouble.

Terrible service, adequate food. Not worth the trip to eat here. Both our orders were wrong, I requested grilled fish with red beans and rice and green beans. I got fried fish and sent it back. Got grilled fish back but coleslaw and green beans. Didn t bother sending it back again. The fish was not seasoned well when it finally was served, hubby got wrong sides and felt badly it took almost 10 minutes for me to get my food. We won t be back.

Fried fresh, hot, and appetizing! My review is based off a first impression. Dont let the quite basic interior (mostly wood) cause any wrong perceptions. There are a few frames or artwork, with a TV and music for dining entertainment. The unused bar area at the front could use some spirit, but for a Friday night, their dining room was pretty packed. Good indication! Yep, their great fried food hit the spot! We called in for a pick-up order: shrimp, crab cakes, fish, hush puppies, and fries with a side of fried oysters. I was craving those fried oysters. They arent dinky little pieces either. They serve up some pretty large shrimp too. Of all the fried goodies we ate, Id definitely have their oysters, shrimp and fish again!

Atmosphere is dark and outdated but clean. Nothing fancy but its dark , with all the brown furniture, brown walls. Food portion sizes seem to have declined over the last year but it still taste delicious and served fresh. Employees can be a lot more friendlier. Edited: I recently went back and tried Sams again, this time it was a complete 180° change! My experience was pleasant from ordering on the phone to picking up my meal. I appreciate that the owner took the initiative to make the necessary changes to make everyones experience more pleasant, from the customers to the staff! And the food is still amazing. Original: Extremely unpleasant experience would not recommend. I just had a Door Dash order I picked up for myself, but the staff was very unprofessional arguing with each other in front of customers, ignoring me when I walked up, I understand they were busy, but didnt even say hello or Ill be right with you, then when I was helped they were rude and dismissive, and made my first experience very uncomfortable. Plus when I got home my order was wrong. I paid extra for things I did not receive which is annoying and frustrating to add to my first impression of the restaurant.

My husband and I wanted fish and did a search for the area, and what a treasure we found. We chose the fried fish, shrimp and oysters plate. I chose slaw and corn for my side while Rick chose french fries and red beans with rice. It was so fresh and delicious. Large portions and plenty to take home for two more meals. Place looks a little dated but the food is on point. I got fried fish, fried shrimp and crab cakes. They offered to grill some of the fish and shrimp. Food arrived hot and fresh. Crab cakes were huge and delicious. I gave one to my husband. Fried shrimp was tender and juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside perfectly cooked. The grilled shrimp was also perfectly cooked and juicy. The fried fish perfectly golden brown tender and flavorful. Simply put, the food was terrible. I had the catfish with red beans and rice. The catfish had good seasoning but the fish inside was mediocre at best... dry, flat and rubbery. Probably the cheapest brand of catfish Ive ever eaten. Almost tasted like processed fish, not fresh at all. The beans and rice were mushy, more like beans pressed into a sauce. I couldnt find a whole anywhere. Glad I ordered the kids menu, because I couldnt fish the small meal... pushed half of it back, paid and left. Pretty good choice when you re hungry for fish and shrimp. I ve always chosen fried, but a healthier grilled version is available. Served hot out of the fryer in generous portions for the price, the catfish fillets hit the spot. Most impressive is the size of the shrimp which can pass for freshly harvested. Two sides red beans and rice along with a cup of tasty coleslaw and an extra order of hush puppies make the 3 pc catfish and 6 shrimp entree plenty to share. But the choices are many. This building has been home to many attempted restaurants, but Sam s Southern Eatery is apparently in it for the long run. It s tough to break that snake-bitten enigma that befalls certain buildings, but Sam s seems to have overcome.

Food was mediocre at best. Asked for no sauce on my po boy was told it doesnt come with any got home to eat and there was sauce on it anyways. The chicken and fried fish were both dry. Red beans and rice was bland.

Fish and shrimp are delicious! The 1st time we went, I ordered grilled Catfish but they brought me fried. Thats fine, I was hungry and had been on the fence, but trying to be good, fate having other ideas. I did mention to the person who brought the food(not our waiter). 30-minutes later, Our waiter, who came over for the 1st time since we received our food, brings out the grilled catfish. I told them, No Thank you, Im full now. I WOULD NOT have liked to eat 30-minutes after everyone else at our table... We went again last night. I ordered everything fried as it was delicious previously and didnt want to tempt fate. Got our order, got extra tarter sauce and lemon brought to our table, didnt see our waiter for 30-minutes. No 2-minute food check-up...no checking for refills. I have been a waitress for 16 years of my life. Kids were all young but they need better training. Otherwise we left, full, fat, and happy. Food was delicious both times.

Its always the hole in the wall, unassuming places that are the best! Thats exactly what we found at Sams from the moment we were welcomed in. The ice tea was huge! Our meals, Catfish Po-Boys, served piping hot and so so good! Wasnt expecting the extra filet! Best, and I mean BEST Catfish in town! Brian, our server was the bomb! Oh! And dinner for 2 $21 and change!

I know Sams reads these reviews, so I am letting you all know about a problem. I have eaten at Sams dozens of times over the last couple of years, so basically I am happy with your good food and service. Saturday August 5, around 1 pm, though, there was a prpblem. I am elderly and I have just enough vision to see large objects within about 3 feet. I come to the door. A young male waiter walks by me a couple of times without responding to me. A waitress tells me to take a table. The angry male waiter takes my order. The female waitress brings it out. The angry male waitert does not appear again until he brings the check. I cant see the check. I just had him my debit card (for an account that has very little money in it, intentionally). The waiter sneers you should look at that. He brings the receipt for me to sign. I ask him how much the amount is. He replies its right there, in a tone as if to say, you idiot. I was asking so I could leave a generous tip, and I did. I hope he needed it because he will not have a job very long.

I go here atleast twice a month. All experiences have been good until last week. I took my wife to eat. I asked for a booth and the waitress thought she was gonna decide where we sit. I feel thats disrespectful to the customer. I hate that I have had a bad experience. I hope they teach their employees to treat everyone with the same respect they want. While dining. Im Ghost.

Having air conditioning wouldnt hurt. Catfish was probably juicier when they were alive at best. Chicken tenders were like little baseball bats, dry and hard. Try other menu items.

Food is good. Staff are terrible. They ignor customers to finish conversations with co-workers, walk right past you waiting to be seated and/or waiting to place a to-go order without acknowledging your presence. At the very least they could let you know that someone would help me in a moment. They weren t busy, there were several at the back visiting and drinking fountain drinks. They all saw me but no one came to assist. I had to walk back to them and ask to place an order to go. Very rude staff.

The food was OK I wouldn t call it perfect when I get beans and rice, I mean I want beans and rice. It was less rice more beans but the beans did taste good and they forgot my fried green tomatoes. The food was hot but I think I d rather eat inside and experience the food, then take it home.

Dont judge a book by its cover. This restaurant may be a bit unsightly from the outside, but its DELICIOUS on the inside. We were so impressed that we forgot to take photos. The portions are huge!! There is a great menu of seafood, chicken, and burgers. Great for family dining. Prices are reasonable. Our family of 4 ate for less than $50. We were extremely pleased with our meal. Im looking forward to going again.

I usually get fried catfish and shrimp. Grilled food is also an option. The shrimp are truly jumbo. The catfish is in filet form, not cheap strip cuts of scrap. The food is perfectly cooked, fish is nice and crunchy.

Great shrimp and catfish! Maybe the best catfish in town. I asked for extra crispy and they did it right! Some of their plates are huge! My husband and I shared a large plate (3 shrimp, 3 catfish, 3 chicken tenders) and still had leftovers to take home. Hush puppies are good! I wasnt a fan of the flavor profile in red beans and rice, some spices were too heavy for my preference. But overall great food and friendly service, and a quiet atmosphere. We will definitely be back.

First and foremost I was referred by family and friends to come try it out. Brought my mom cause she loves fish. We sat down and ordered and our food which came out within a short time. Food came out great. Upon the time we were eating and almost done I sat and waited for a waiter or waitress to offer a refill or ask if everything was alright, can I get you a box or etc. My dissatisfaction came when I sat there for over 30-45 minutes and still no one came even though they were going to some tables and standing by the register just chit chatting. I had to go ask for my own ticket and a togo box. Asked to speak with Manager, who came out. I introduced myself and explained the situation and that he needs better customer service. Waiters and waitresses were still standing around or sitting at a table. Yeah, I recommend to just order takeout! Definitely not a place for dining in!

I came in to visit my brother in family the was telling us about this place being after eight & them closing @ nine being a prior GM in a restaurant I was like Nawl but we went anyway everything was hot & fresh and my I add great customer services!! We went back again the next day and it was yet again hot, fresh & delicious with another day of great customer service, if you re ever in Temple, Texas it s a most go or you there and haven t tried it Gooooo!! We all had catfish and shrimp.... Both were very good. Definitely some of the best catfish Ive had, and likely the best in this area! Tartar sauce is homemade and is great! My son doesnt normally like tartar sauce, but loved theirs. The jumbo shrimp were very good, cooked just right.. large and just the right amount of batter. Waitress was great.... The ambiance could use some work.... environment was quiet... too quiet. Maybe some TVs or even an audio system.... or both.. All around was a great dinner. We will be back.
