1st, I must say the older lady was sweet, JUST that one that I spoke to on my way out. But, Ive tried the every time I ve come home 1st $48, good, but the serving amount is a 2! Customer service is 2! The last time was yesterday, asked for a side, 1? I had brought my GREAT Baked Chicken@7-11 paid for mashed potatoes and gravy . SPOILED!!! Had to throw it away . SHAME ON BLACKS Capitalizing off Soul Food Name.

My first time to Granny Dee s, the soul food was not impressive. The Baked Chicken came with three dried drumsticks very little rice and just a hint of gravy. The collard greens had no flavor but the yams were decent. The fried fish was on point but the portions of fries were barely enough to fill one of the side cups of the to-go container. The amount of food is not worth what they are charging. The Greasy Spoon on the other hand knows how to serve a plate, the to-go container can barely close. But I like said, the Fried Fish is on point and if I come back it will be for the fish. Oh, and the cornbread was so dry, it crumbled in my hand.

This is exactly the type of place that my soul was needing. The meatloaf was spot-on and the red sauce is essentially culinary crack. The mac and cheese is the perfect ratio and the sweet tea is whats going to bring me back for round two! Add to that the people behind the counter are the sweetest, kindness and carrying people youll ever meet! Its safe to say that my soul is satiated!

A colleague mentioned this restaurant to me years ago. I tried it today and was overall disappointed. While everyone has bad days, redeeming oneself when doing so in a customer service business environment is critical. I walked in an hour or so before closing, and an older man sitting at a table to my left wearing an apron never greeted me. After standing near the entrance to determine whether they had servers, I asked the gentleman if I should have a seat or go to what looked like a window/counter to place my order. He pointed to the counter, and I approached it as if an older woman had come to take my order. As I looked over the menu on the wall above the counter, she kindly told me they were out of some items listed. I asked what items were unavailable, and she offered me a verbal list. As a breast cancer survivor, I very seldom allow my food and drinks to be placed directly on styrofoam, and that was the take-out packaging used. I was told by my Oncologist 20 years ago about the danger styrofoam poses; it has cancer-causing chemicals that activate when hot or cold is applied. I asked the lady if it was possible to line the container with parchment paper or foil before placing the food. She responded by giving me a look of disbelief. After being rude, she asked the cook to put the food on foil. The gentleman who delivered my food as I waited for it presented the bag, hanging it beside my face without speaking. No one in the establishment greeted me or offered a thank you or a proper goodbye. I am a massive supporter of black-owned businesses when they earn it. Good customer service is most important, and Ive noticed that too many black-owned service businesses do not have it! Some black companies do not show enough respect for black people who try to prioritize their businesses. Not enough smiles, patience, or thank you s!

Ashamed they call them soul food. Death food. Never will I ever again. Mind you the peach cobbler is sugary. This place shouldnt be open for business

Ordered the meatloaf yesterday and it was horrible and had to throw it away. My husband went in on Wednesday and ordered me the meatloaf and was told that meatloaf was served on Thursday because there is a special on it. So when my husband went to walk away the guy told him that even though they weren t supposed to have meatloaf it could still check and see if they had any and was able to give him a plate. The meatloaf looked cooked from the outside but was mussy and taste and texture of the meat seemed uncook. I spend a lot of money on food that I have to throw away because others don t care about how their food taste to others. They have now lost a customer and will not be back. Maybe if they start eating there own cooking then they will know how their customers feel to have to waste money.

My family and I checked out Granny Dee s Kitchen, a cool black-owned spot we wanted to support. The elderly man who greeted us was so friendly, and we didnt mind waiting for him to take our orders. We ended up spending over $100 for four of us, which wasnt bad. I liked how they have different stuff on different days, so we went for Fridays menu. The meats were cooked well and tasted great, but the black-eyed peas needed more seasoning and cooking time. I loved the collard greens, but Mom found them too bitter. The mac & cheese was awesome, and the pound cake was moist and yummy, especially when heated up. But the sweet tea wasnt our thing it tasted kind of fake. Overall, Granny Dee s Kitchen was a nice spot for lunch. Everyones got their own taste, so you gotta try it yourself. Wed totally go back to try more stuff.

Terrible customer service. I called in my order today and was told it would be ready in 30 minutes. Upon arrival I was told by the lady that took the order that my order did not make it to the back. After all the food wasnt good anyway.

I ordered the oxtail dinner through DoorDash. The speed of having the order delivered was great. However the food was so salty that I could not finish. The Mac n cheese tasted burnt and was dry. The yams were really good. Probably the best thing. The rice and gravy and oxtails were just way too salty!

I ve never had such poor quality of food never!!! The chitterlings were seasoned with super spicy spices and jalapeños undercooked , no flavor other than hot!! One tiny bite and my lips became raw. The vegetables were all canned. The mashed potatoes were unseasoned with big chunks of potatoes uncooked. The Mac n cheese was pitiful, the green bean were mushy. One bite of each item and I was so disgusted, I threw it all out. I am so upset that I spent my hard earned money, $61.00 to eat this slop. The cornbread was dry and hard, so was the pound cake, neither should be sold that old. They need Gordon Ramsey to come in and help them. I try and support small black business owners, as I am a small black business owner, but I can t with this establishment, the food doesn t even look appealing. I m southern born and raised and this food does not meet the standards of Soul Food, not one bit,

Not in Ennis very often and typically go to another local place for lunch but Granny Dee s Pierogi had the menu posted on the window and it caught my eye. I decided to give it a try. I asked that they choose a sandwich for me. They decided on The Ennis Hot Czech. It was a huge deep fried pork loin sandwich with pickle, mayo, ranch, and Cayenne pepper hot sauce served on a poppy seed bun with hand cut potato chips. It was excellent and it was a great portion for the price. Thank you and I will be back!

This food was disgusting. I just picked up the smother chicken plate. Taste the greens in the car befor pulling off and the were mushy with no flavor. He exchange them for black eye peas they were worst. The chicken is not fresh its old chicken smothered in burnt flavorless gravy the Mac and cheese was good. But this not somewhere I will be dining at. The cashier was great but unfortunately the bad tasting food overshadows that.

I stopped by after church and my $60 bucks was a terrible waste! The BBQ was not fresh and covered in tooo much sauce (to hide the fact that it was old meat). I have never, I repeat, I have never ever ordered an ox tail plate for $30 with such little food! The barely gave any rice and I had to search for gravy! Mac n cheese was basic and cannied yams was nothing to brag about. The service was suppppper slow (they had signs saying that it may be slow). I dont mind waiting, IF its worth the wait annnnd this food ISNT The cake, potato salad, and oxtails were decent. The baked beans came out of a can literally! Listennnn: Dont wast your time or money

The fish and shrimp was the only thing with season and it had too much. The peach cobbler taste like sweet bread and barley had peaches. 2020- Unfortunately we almost didnt order from here because of the negative reviews; however, thankfully we decided to take the chance, and I am so glad that we did! I had the smothered pork chops & rice, a side of black eyed peas, macaroni, & cornbread. The food was amazing, & portions were huge. I was only able to eat half, but cant wait to eat the rest later! I have no idea why anyone complained about the macaroni or cornbread, because it was delicious! We also had the brisket sandwich & boudain, & my hubby said it was really good. If you are doubting trying this place because of the bad reviews, I can assure you that they are mistaken! Do not miss out on this place! I look forward to taking our family here! 1/7/23 update- I still crave these smothered pork chops at least once a month! The hostess was young and many people were coming and going so we understood how easily it was to forget that there are people waiting outside. Maybe having everyone sign in might help. The collard greens were exceptional. I enjoyed the meatloaf, rice & gravy, mashed potatoes and cornbread as well. Hubs had the 3 pieces fried catfish and fries. It also comes with a side salad but my husband doesnt eat vegetables. He said it was good and there were more fries than he could eat. He also said, Id eat there again, which speaks volumes. Theres a very small dining room with about 5 tables. TV had the Rockets game on. Most people ordered by phone and came in to pick up but there were never any empty tables while we were there. Drinks are canned or bottled cokes and water... I assume since most of their business is take away. We also picked up a piece of chocolate cake for later. Granny Dee, well definitely be back.

I got the vegetable plate. Greens, macaroni & cheese and black-eyed peas. They put all my vegetables in a Styrofoam plate instead of putting them in containers to contain the juices and then gave me a slice of white bread. What would I eat that with? If they were out of cornbread they could have told me. The black-eyed peas were not cooked well. The macaroni & cheese and the greens were good.

3 stars for customer service. I mean it is part of the business, right! Please business owners, don t always assume that when someone calls to place an order have been to your establishment before and or know your menu. If I ask if you re serving a specific item, I don t need to be reminded what day it is. And if I ask what sides you have, I don t need a reply that you have all, LOL When an experience like this happens, it doesn t discourage me from supporting black business. It just helps me to determine who. Much love

I was pregnant and I tried everything on their menu, I usually eat 2 plates and desserts. It s as close to my grandma kitchen that I m going to get and when I was having contractions going into labor I was eating the sweet potato pie On my couch . Me Having grandparents from the south you just got understand at this establishment they mean what they say and that s it . I would love to have this establishment in California because soul food here sucks .

Decided to treat my girlfriend to lunch there, and all seemed well until she found a hair in her dressing/stuffing. Looked closer, just to be certain that it wasnt hers, and saw that it was baked into the dressing. We didnt inform them due to our not wanting to seem like we were trying to get something for free. Needless to say though, my girl was done after that, so we just simply left. Time passed, and because I work nearby, I decided to give them a second try. While trying to make a phone order, I (in my opinion) was spoken too/treated rudely. As though their food is better than basic. Whoever reads this revue, do you. But when it comes to Granny Dees, I, nor my girlfriend will never return.

Ive been twice in less than a week. Gotten the catfish both times but its one of those places where I like one dish so much I havent tried others yet. The catfish is very good. The one thing you get with catfish is that the batter can be bland on the one end or too salty on the other. This avoids both and hits that delicious sweet spot right in the middle. The collard greens are true soul/Southern collards and are quite good. Everything is made to order (except the cornbread) and is excellent. Will definitely be going back!
