Our last server was Renee but this was our 3rd visit. Never had a bad experience. Throw your napkins away, you wont need them. The food is so good youre going to licking it off your fingers! We ate steak tacos, Maui tacos, nachos and omg love that gumbo. My wife really liked the bread pudding. The sopapilla was a bit crunchy. I like them a bit softer. Its really rare to find them anywhere.

Wow! We have loved this place in the past and have made many recommendations to others! What happened to the food?? We ordered 2 of the four piece dinners to go. Received and paid (thank goodness) for one along with the Bread pudding. The fish used to be a good size portion and delicious! This time it was a sliver of fish with lots of breading and about doubled the amount of french fries! Very disappointing! Go back to your previous size portions!

The fried fish was horrible and hard...Not sure what kind of fish it was! The fried shrimp were hard and dark. The hushpuppies were warmed in the microwave and hard. I ordered a side of queso (fajita beef) and chips, I was looking for the beef and it was cut up in the small container with the cheese. Maybe 6 little pieces of beef. The chips were good. I will not be going back. Very disappointed.....

Ive been here a few times now, and this place is an absolute gem. Not only to they have a kids menu and are kid friendly, (you can take how you may) but I love the lunch options. I dont have to worry so much about whether or not something is allowed, because of how many pescatarian and fish options they have. Their chips and salsa are great, and the queso may be the best in Houston. I almost want to gatekeep place just because of how good it is and how I dont have to wait for a table, but they deserve the love. The grilled salmon is fantastic, Ive ordered it multiple times now. The fish po boy is a bunch of fried fish in bread and a seafood lover like me would give it all the heart eyes. My daughter said that their mashed potatoes are almost as good as mine-- its a huge compliment, I assure you. They play great music, I wanted to have a dance party for the music and chill vibes alone. I love how their lemon has a little mesh bag over it, its so cute and keeps seeds out of the way. Definitely worth a try!!

I do not understand why this place doesnt have the most amazing reviews because it truly IS a diamond in the ruff. From the moment you walk in the service is impeccable. The host is very cheerful, the waitstaff is super attentive, and the bartenders make top of the line beverages to perfection. Ill go ahead and send a shout out to one of the waiters Hector, who stood out to me. He was very helpful when choosing items, gave top notch service, very cheerful and so entertaining! The food is delicious as well, and you can tell the ingredients are fresh and great quality from the first bite. Its nicely decorated and very clean. I came here once on a whim, and now go at least once to twice a week! I really want a place like this to stay busy and thrive so it keeps its doors open because they work hard, truly care and deserve it! Check it out you wont be disappointed, its definitely worth every penny!

Everything about this place is meh . I went with my boyfriend He ordered the pecan crusted catfish and it was delicious pretty burnt tasting. The fish wasn t dry but the crust was burnt. Our waiter kept taking things off the table which was annoying and he spilled the top of Carlos s Moscow mule all over our table. Needless to say I tipped less than 10%. And it s very hard to make onion rings or erff them up but they managed to so recommend all to steer clear of that place. Service was decent but the music was off putting and too loud. I d expect that at a bar but not a cantina or restaurant. I did not dig the disco vibes when I was expecting more coast vibes - not Gotti yacht vibes. Playing songs that bars typically play when they are closing up or done for the night and set to clean and it was no where near time for them to close. Never coming back and unless you re really into disco and burnt crust - this could be your type of place! I wasn t even given a spoon to scoop out my stuffed crab- in fact, it s what he took away that he gave for us to use to scoop dip for the empanadas. Drinks are strong. That s the only plus side. Decent price and not too shabby. Felt a little cramped in there and wondered if it was a better night out weather-wise if a patio/deck experience is where it s at for this place.

I decided to give this place a try as my grandparents recommended it since I moved up here. I walked in at 645 and was greeted by Gloria who welcomed me in and asked me if I was the only one for my table. After seating me and letting me know my server would be with me shortly I looked around admiring the decorations and the music. After five minutes my waiter Felipe came to my table to take my order. He was very friendly and had a great attitude. I ordered the blackened fish meal. It took ten minutes for my my meal to come out. Presentation wise it was awesome, it came with dirty rice two filets and fresh vegetables. The veggies were fresh and good tasting however after eating some of the fish I noticed I was feeling sick to my stomach and had a really bad salty flavor in my mouth. Gloria came over to check on me and got Felipe to come over. He offered to take the plate and bring me something else. The staff was amazing. I asked if I could get a bowl of the gumbo however after two bites I had to call it quits because of how I was feeling. I got the gumbo to go, paid for my meal, and sadly spent the rest of the night getting sick. I appreciate the hospitality of the restaurant however I will not be ordering the fish anymore if I choose to return do to it being overly seasoned with salt and more than likely improperly cooked. Overall I give the place a 3/5 because of the atmosphere and the staff doing great with my peticular situation. Overall though I would avoid the seafood side of the menu until they can get it right. I should also mention I overheard another set of customers talking and they said the place had been making people sick before, they changed management and the entire staff, however they guy said to watch out for the food that s why any time he comes he just drinks (because of the cheap pricing) and leaves not ordering food, The people he was talking to stated they would watch out and thanked him for his opinion.

Went here for Valentine s. Long wait, but to be expected. What wasn t expected is that the hostess wasn t taking anyone s name , simply saying ok . Wow, we just enjoyed a great dinner at La Palapa! We were worried about going out on Valentine s Day and we re lucky to get a table. The place was packed. Loved this place for a lot of awesome reasons other than the seafood that I ordered, I think its my fault though. I know thats a weird way to start a seafood place review but hear me out. First, for the location in town for where its at, my wife and I felt like a lake or the beach is just right outside! It may be the way they decorated the place, color scheme, tiki bar, or just all the windows. But that feel alone makes this place a fun visit. First #2 lol, amazing cocktails! From hibiscus mezcalita, passion fruit mai tai, Cadillac Margarita, and great michelada! These drinks dont play and bartenders here dish out drinks that you would expect to get from upscale restaurants. Now the food. Fried crab claws were an awesome start. I wish they had soft shell crab with the way they made those claws and I can eat that all day. The gumbo turned out great as well. I had the palapa yacht pick 3 for Im undecided on what to get and wanted to try a lot of different things. I should have stuck with my gut and should have stayed away from fried seafood. Fried bacon-wrapped shrimp and fried oysters are never fun. I shouldve known better so like I said, my fault there. Was hoping redemption from the stuffed crab but that was sadly more breading than crab. Bummed for the cost and what you get from that Platter . My wife Mahi was good but just needed a bit more flavor. For dessert we shared the bread pudding. Great whiskey glaze and awesome flavor which really doesnt need the white chocolate chips on top as it sends the sweetness level to the roof. Easy fix if you just scrape that off. The ambiance, the appetizers, and the drinks are definitely worth coming back for. Jury still out on the main course so cant wait to try other things on our next visit.

Was told that the food wasnt good, but Im glad I still went. I ordered their shrimp po-boy and was very good along with some onion rings. Just wish the onion rings were cooked a bit longer, the breading was very soft instead of a crispy breading. Our server wasnt the best, we waited on our drinks for a good 20 minutes before the waiter actually came back to our table and we asked him if we could get our drinks just to find out the drinks that were on the counter were ours. Im not one to complain but it wouldve been nice if the waiter would have came to check on us rather us call him when we need refills or any other thing. Would have been 5 stars if the bartender hadnt taken so long to make my second drink...it took way to long. On a bright note, the food was awesome, served hot and plenty of it!!! 85.00 for 2 big dinners and 4 drinks. Not cheap, but worth it!!! Food : 5/5

I can t believe this place doesn t have 5 stars across the board. I have been back in Houston for just over a year now and the lunch specials here are probably the best bang for your buck that you are gonna get. I ordered the chips and salsa as an appetizer to share with my wife and she ordered the shrimp and fish meal, while I ordered the blackened catfish over dirty rice. They were very accommodating for my low fodmap diet and helping me with navigating the menu. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough! I ll be back no doubt!

Oh God, the gumbo was watery with some unidentified sliver of meat. It was terrble. Their cooked oysters had a strong fishy odor to them - shouldnt be that way after cooked. I was vomiting everything back up in the parking lot.

Our family came in to eat lunch on a Saturday afternoon. We d been wanting to try this place out since it opened, it s definitely an eye-catching restaurant as you drive past. The atmosphere inside is very cool! We loved the decor and vibe, even though the dining area itself seemed a little small. They played great music too, so that was a plus for us. The staff was very friendly, a little slow to take our drink orders but it was smooth sailing after that. My husband ordered a mojito which he said was just ok, but his molcajete fajitas and Mahi Mahi tacos were amazing. I ordered the shrimp po boy and even though the fried shrimp were slightly dry, the portions for all our meals were HUGE. We did order the queso and chips appetizer and that was a little disappointing, just velveeta and canned diced tomatoes. No zip or pep to it, something I could have made better at home. For 5 entrees (including 2 regular cheeseburgers nothing fancy), an appetizer, an extra side of onion rings (meh), 3 regular drinks, 2 cocktails and a beer, our bill was $144 before tip. So, a tad on the pricey side, I guess. Overall, we will probably be back but without the kids, lol. I hope to see this place open for a long time, it s definitely a cool and unique restaurant to eat at.

The rating should be much higher than 4.3. This place has some of the best seafood (oysters) and the best margarita in town by far. The bartenders Tony and Felipe are the best. Everything on the menu is excellent, Thai place is a must if you love seafood.

Ive been here on three occasions. The first two times was when they were just opening as my husband and I were excited to try this place. The third time it was on my insistence because the food is in my opinion, very delicious hence my 2 stars. However, that being said there is a lot of room for improvement. On the first two times, the first time was excellent. I am assuming this was because they were not officially open just yet only on weekends and I suppose they were trying to impress. Totally understandable. The second time, is when things went downhill. First, I could tell that our waitress was overwhelmed as she was assisting another party but it was not so busy to the point it was not manageable. This led to poor service on her end. No additional chips were offered, no dessert was offered this time, and then the worst thing happen, we asked for rice and she said they no longer had any. In my opinion, this is a huge no!! Especially for a seafood place. On the last time we were there, my husband hesitantly tagged along because the last time being without rice was just not adequate for him. Needless to say we went again, and again seems like they now had hired more staff and this girl did try. She did offer additional chips, dessert, but again when we asked for mash potatoes, we were told they were out. I mean how can you tell people twice you are out of things? Huge disappointment. Than finally, we asked for our meat to be well done, as that is how we like it, mine was done well my husbands wasnt leading him to leave it all there. Obviously, he has no desire to return and I am willing to give them a try in a few months and see if things have changed. My recommendation is to make sure you never run out of things or have a polite way of telling servers to recommend something else? Also, pricing is high for those that care to know.

The guacamole, honestly, taste like it came out of one of those pumps at subway or freebirds...absolutely liquifide. I also go the molcajete The steak was absolutely inedible and chewy, difficult to cut even with a knife. The shrimp had been previously frozen and then overcooked, the chicken was OK and the mystery white fish was OK. The Verde sauce in the molcajete was on point as are the charro beans. Tortillas taste good, but they are TINY. Waiter had a pretty irritating way about him. I wouldnt suggest this place to my friends.

We are foodies and like to let new places work the kinks out before we go. We had a coupon come in the mail that reminded us we haven t been there yet. The food was absolutely on point. The empanadas were high end good (loved the pickled onion). All of our meals were very good. The prices give you pause, but the portions and quality of the food could have gone for more. We will definitely be back for more.

After driving by several times saying we should try La Palapa last night we finally did. What a treat! We ordered two of the (not on menu) crab leg specials for three of us and we all left stuffed with well seasoned, yummy crab. Their house margarita was awesome too, I liked the orange liqueur they add to offset some of the acidity. Go to there! Parking: Ample parking around the perimeter of the building. Kid-friendliness: Nice menu with kids staples like chicken tenders.

The food and service was horrible under seasoned I dont think they know that salt exists. The catfish was dry and rubbery so was the shrimp as for the gumbo it was under seasoned with no salt and the shrimp was tough and rubbery. It took 5 minutes from the time we sat down to the time our server asked what we would like to drink and from the time our drinks were on the table was 20 minutes. I had the sweet tea and it tasted as if they dumped a pound of sugar in to half gallon of tea. Vegetarian options: No vegan or vegetarian options available Dietary restrictions: If you have a shellfish allergy dont come here.
