After a coworker recommended Gus s Fried Chicken, we decided to try it after a trade show to avoid the standard buffet dinner. The establishment is very clean and has a fresh, modern vibe. We were greeted warmly upon entering and were able to choose our own seating, which was a nice touch. Our waiter was friendly and attentive throughout the meal. I ordered a Coke, and my dining companion opted for a half sweet tea, half lemonade mix. For the meal, I went with the 2-piece white plate, which came with baked beans and coleslaw, while my coworker chose the 4-leg dinner special with fried okra and beans. Both meals were priced at $12 each, which we found reasonable. The chicken was served piping hot, with a wonderfully crispy exterior and moist, flavorful meat. The portion sizes were impressive I couldn t finish my meal, and the breast and wing were especially large. The chicken had a great flavor, with just enough spice to leave a little heat without being overwhelming. Both the beans and slaw had a nice balance of flavors and paired well with the meal. Overall, we had a great experience and will definitely be returning to Gus s. Highly recommend if you re in the mood for some delicious fried chicken!

Awesome Chicken one of my new favorites. The chicken was so juicy and flavorful, it wasnt even greasy which was surprisingly great. Every dish was amazing. Be sure to add this place to your hit list. Love this place! Staff is friendly. The food is great! They have a daily special that will definitely leave you with leftovers for the next day. Have visited the Houston and San Antonio restaurants and I m happy we now have a closer location Chicken plates come with beans and slaw which are both super good or you can substitute a different side item. The desserts are fresh and yummy!

Dont wait to try this Chicken They have one job and they exceed expectation in every way. The exceptional food isnt to be taken lightly..it is a heavy hitter for any foodie to try.light crunchy crust.perfectly cooked poultry..hot and steamy and fresh. There is a bit of a kick on the back end like a good 20 year old single maly...all the flavor and aroma..then the spice kicks in. The sides were fresh, the potato salad chunky and light on the palate The macaroni is a cheezy dream The portions are right on the money. Easy parking Easy to move around for the less than able, there is a consideration in the layout Very clean and acessable restrooms. World class waitstaff...very customer intensive and attentive.very old school goodness. Dont wait on hitting this place up,you will not regret going. Parking: Easy in and out

Really great food! Got the 3 piece dark, sub slaw for Mac & the beans. The breading for the chicken was so good, it was spicy and thin! Mac and cheese had a great flavor, and the beans were good but a little too sweet for my taste. We went at a bad time when a huge party of college athletes were there so service was a little slow but not their fault. :)

Ive heard from some people around town and on social media platforms that Guss was a great place to get chicken but it was a little pricy. Emily was our server she was very friendly, explained the meno to a T. Place looked clean. Food came out pretty quick. French Fries were seasoned nicely and they were hot and crispy. Now on to the main Course, The World Famous Chicken.... Taste was okay, the edges were really dry, the middle was a little juicy, the chicken was Stove/deep fryer Hot but not spicy at all. The spice level was like a 1 and a half. Emily explained it to us as a level between 6-9 but not everyone likes spicy food. Chicken size was small for the price, Emily said if its too small I can bring you out an extra piece but I didnt want to go through all of that. If youve never been, go ahead and try it out but it definitely is not the best Chicken Ive tried. There is or was a place in Houston called Frenchies Chicken, Now that was some Good Chicken.

I am absolutely excited to find my new favorite fried chicken spot. I walked in and loved looking at the walls that were filled with awesome art, news, history, it was such a cool vibe. We sat down with great service. From the time we entered we were greeted a few times with smiles. We were asked how we were and if we had been there before. We were able to enjoy and order wine and beers with our amazing fried pickles and fried green tomatoes appetizer that came well before our enteee. Then our entrees came, I got q pieces of breasts. The breasts were easily the size of my 6 year old sons big head. They were juicy, crunchy on the skin, then perfectly moist which each bite. The breasts had a definite kick! I loved the spicy. I was able to pair it with white bread, Mac n cheese, and beans. The sides were hot and so good too. They offered me pie and ice cream which I had to get to go cause I was so full but it sounded amazing. Chocolate chess brownie pie with vanilla ice cream and later it was even good. I warmed my pie a little and wow best thing ever. If I had more hands and fingers or stars Id leave more. Absolute 5 star experience for affordable prices. Yeehaw! Parking: There is one other busy bar nearby but I had no trouble finding a place to park. Kid-friendliness: It was such a fun atmosphere. From eclectic views of the dining art, to the taste of the food. Kids will love it. Tenders or grilled cheese and my son fills up. He likes to break up his tenders and put into his grilled cheese. He loves it here. He is 6. Wheelchair accessibility: There are ramps onto the sidewalk and all parking is one level on ground level. Easily accessible.

I first tried Guss Famous Chicken when I visiting Little Rock, Arkansas in early May 2024, and was thrilled to find out that my little town of San Marcos, Texas, recently opened a restaurant. The local restaurant was quite crowded for an early Saturday evening. It is more expensive than other fried chicken restaurants in town, but way worth it since its spicy taste will open your buds and make you feel alive. Its unusual recipe makes this chicken stand out alone. When ordering a plate, the restaurant is generous with the size of the side dishes and you can order a beverage in a souvenir cup that has their slogan, If you havent eaten at Guss, you havent had fried chicken. If you do not like a busy restaurant and want to save a little on tipping wait staff (although my waiter was very attentive), you can order takeout. I look forward to returning and I am glad these new guys are in town. Parking: Parking was no problem for me at all and I was able to park very close to the restaurant.

Didn t think we needed another chicken place in SMTX, but I was wrong. Kids and I loved it. Its atmosphere is chill, and the chicken isn t super heavily breaded which was perfect for me. This places prices are in line with highway robbery. If people continue to let businesses gouge them. While they happily pay exorbitant inflated prices for food. Its just going to get worse. Food was decent but definitely not worth what youre charged at all. Id recommend steering clear of businesses like this that are blatantly predatory in pricing. Taking advantage of your consumers isnt a good look. I guess since its close to a college where kids toss around their parents trust funds and food allowances. Taking advantage of their favorite unconcerned demographic is slim pickings. The owners of this establishment have no shame.

I had to try those new chicken place since it was world.famous. I ordered an assortment of chicken pieces, fried okra and slaw. Total was around 38.00. They cook it fresh to order. When I got home, we chowed down. I flavor was ok, skin crisp but the meat was overcooked. Initially, my first bite was moist, but as I dug into the breast meat, it was dry, tough and overdone. It has a spicy bite to it which was fine with me but my wife didnt appreciate it. The fried okra was very good as well as the slaw. It ended up being twice the price of our usual chicken hangout....was it worth twice the price....no, not really. We will not be going back except for the okra!

FRANKIE PADILLA gave the best customer service I have ever received. This beautiful majestic Puerto Rican man goes above and beyond for all his customers. I was driving home from the restaurant when I realized my card was missing. As I was driving back to retrieve it; to my amazement THE FRANKIE PADILLA had chased my car 15 miles up the road. He handed me my debit card. I asked him how could I repay you? to which he responded all in a days work and proceeded to disappear into the night. FRANKIE I will never forget you please give him a raise!

We had to ask the person who was cleaning the floor about our server after waiting 15 minutes without service. They brought up our server and without apologizing he asked us to leave him a Google review. This was after we had put our order in with the other guy who was cleaning at the end of his shift so our server had done nothing up to that point. After that, he came back to ask us if our order had been put in and, I wanted to tell him I hope so because if there s anyone that should know it should be him right? I was very confused and after that, we waited almost another 10-15 minutes for our app. So after 30 minutes of being seated, our appetizer got to our table and by the time our food came, we took it to go because we were too full. Service was very slow and very inattentive 0/10. I wasn t going to make a bad review until he joked around about how dead it was in the restaurant. There was no reason for us to have waited so long. Food was amazing I will be back for more but if the service is anyway the same I ll look into going to other nearby locations.

So dang good. I always go to Austin location so I wanted to show support for new store even though I love in Leander. Hoping for a north Austin store. The service with Jake was superb. Well, Im going to give this restaurant 2 stars. Because I love chicken. But the fries are very salty, thats the only thing I dont like. Ive been to eat at the one in Austin and San Antonio and the potatoes are not that salty. I think Deven should not add so much salt. The rest is perfect

Gus s was recommended to us so, we had to give them a try. I got the half chicken with the baked beans and macaroni and cheese. My wife got the three-piece dark with the baked beans and seasoned fries. The chicken had good flavor with a little bit of spice. The pieces were quite small. The mac was cheesy good. The beans were ok. The fries were good. Overall, I felt the meal was good but expensive. I m glad we tried it but may not return. The staff were welcoming and nice.
