That absolutely destroyed my favorite entrée. Burnt to a crisp and still sent it to my table. The manager did replace it while my wife ate her overcooked steak. Very disappointed but will go back again. Hopefully they just had a bad night. We love this place, please keep the basic quality or we wont support you. Picture is the burnt chicken, second try was better. Two times we went and couldnt park due to river tubing taking up the spots.

It took 1 hour and 20 minutes to get food. Then there was a 20% gratuity, plus an additional tip. Food was decent, but good Lord it took so long. Plus, I ordered cheese in my burger, didnt get the cheese, then had to pay for it anyway!

This place has great atmosphere and service BUT it is strictly a burger and a beer spot. My whole family and I have tried multiple menu items and all were terrible except their burger and fries. The GQ burger is my favorite!! They have good queso and guacamole but skip the salsa unless Pace Picante is your favorite. I know they have signs hanging claiming Best BBQ in San Marcos Dont fall for it LOL I did.....once....dried out rubber Zero flavor and dry catfish too

Came with a family trio and decided to make a stop in this restaurant. The view is gorgeous, the food is small but tasty, so you wont regret It, if you eat a lot, make sure you bring a starter. Is kinda difficult to park, since the area is very crowded with people going to the river.

I had never heard of this restaurant because its been years since Ive been to San Marcos. The entire staff were awesome and very helpful. We were there to celebrate my moms 84th birthday. She had a wonderful time. She loved her food and the view. As I was going to order a dessert for her the waitress suggested ice cream. It was huge and free for her since it was her birthday. Parking: The disabled parking was just steps away from the entrance. The lot was paved and smooth. Wheelchair accessibility: I have never been in a restaurant that has a motorized lift for handicapped people. I thought that was awesome!

My husband and I came here for dinner while visiting my sister and the service was above and beyond. They had a little bit of a wait in the dining room so we decided to stop at the bar just for a drink but we ended up staying at the bar bc the bar tender Lloyd took very good care of us. So Ive tried to eat here twice in the past year. Im aware that this is a busy spot and last time I tried I called ahead to see what the wait time would be. Hostess told me no wait time. We show up and suprise suprise there is a 30 minute wait time. We ended up leaving but I wasnt particularly upset. Well we tried again today and the exact same thing happened. Except this time it was our kitchens are too backed up to get you a table. Which is strange because I got off the phone with someone not 5 mins before we showed up. I dont appreciate people flat out lying to me. I dont recommend this place. The guy in the parking lot doing traffic is rad.

Fun! Good food. We had a table inside by the window with a view of the river. The outdoor seating area looked like fun. The staff was welcoming, and our server was fabulous. My husband and I both had the BBQ platter. We both enjoyed it! Will return as every plate I saw on other tables or going by looked YUMMY.

I went for the first time this last Sunday and while I did have a good time my biggest concern was the forced gratuity for sitting outside. The concern isnt with the gratuity its with the lack of service that we are then forced to tip on. The only service we got was bringing the food to us. We all still had to order our own food, get our own water and were never once checked on. If gratuity is forced it Needs to be earned at the very least. 20% is alot for someone who isnt doing anything but sitting behind a table and waiting for something to happen. The food tasted great(brisket nachos) my order was a bit smaller then my friend who ordered the same thing 10 mins later, but over all the brisket was awesome. I really liked the place but being forced to tip just for sitting putside or or the lack of service isnt want Im willing to spend my money on.

Went to Ivar s with a large group and got pretty lucky with not long of a wait. They don t allow you to reserve a time online or anything but they do cater. Food came out in a reasonable time and the food tasted lovely. No complaints from anyone in the group. Do definitely recommend the ribeye it s unique but I really enjoyed it. Outside is covered in shade and the view of the river was nice. Parking: Parking lot that extends to the back. Plenty of parking when we went. Wheelchair accessibility: Wheelchair accessibility in the front.

Every summer our family takes a trip to San marcos to float the river before kids go back to school & every year we eat at Ivars (sometimes twice in our 3 day stay) weve never been disappointed yet! Firstly, our server, Brooke was very kind, friendly, and patient. These days, this level of gracious service is top-tier. Ivar s has an amazing view of the river and park and the atmosphere is great with live music too. There s indoor and outdoor seating depending on your preference. The food is really good and we ordered a range of meals from burgers, blackened salmon, pulled pork tacos, kids meals and more. The food was good and tasty. The place was nice and clean too which is always a plus. The service was a little slow, but our server did check in on us which was nice. Parking is a problem with limited parking spaces available, but there was an attendant making sure we were set us and managing the lot. Overall a great place to hang out.

You go here for the view of the river. Everything else was good, too. The spinach salad was perfect. I really like the mixture of textures. It had pecans, craisins, and goat cheese. Dressed with citrus vinegar and a balsamic drizzle. Our seafood platter was as good as any other place offering a fish option. Shrimp and fish were fried just right, and the flavor was good. I really liked the homemade tartar sauce and the cole slaw with a bit more flavor by way of spices. The view of the river is great.

When we showed up, the parking lot was full. Waited approximately 15 minutes to be seated, and the server was there to take our drink order. The food was decent but the sevice was poor. The server checked on us as the food was brought out, and that was it. Had to flag her down to get another drink for my wife and a to-go box. The service was poor, and so was the atmosphere. It was too loud to even talk with my wife. Also, if a restaurant is going to charge the prices, it does. Why do they get the cheapest flatware possible? You have to get a parking pass and put it in your car to avoid being towed because tubers try to park in their lot. Parking: Park. The food was excellent so props to the chef, but our waitress Melissa was not so great. We were continuously having to ask other servers for things, basic things like napkins, plates, the check etc.. I dont like not receiving an itemized check, the price was about $20 over what it should of been, we didnt question it, we just paid it and moved on. We had our dog with us so we sat on the patio where its dog friendly, but it was so hot, we were all sweating. They had a few fans but def should add more. The parking is free but you do need to get a parking pass from the hostess. This is so that all the river goers dont park in their parking lot, with that being said, it is river view from the restaurant and we did go down to the water after lunch but (yes another complaint ), it wasnt really my cup of tea, the water right there was dirty and if your waking around the edge of the water its very muddy on the rock path and was stinky. Im not trying to be racist here (everyone is my friend) just pointing out that its mostly Latino that is hanging out here, at least on that day (Memorial Day) Overall I really wasnt impressed with the day spent here at the restaurant and river. I most likely wont be going back. Parking: Front parking is a bit tight, but theres more parking in the back and you need to get a parking pass from the hostess.

Location is the highlight! We sat on the patio while the sun set and tons of folks floating, paddling, and swimming in the river. I honestly really enjoyed this riverside bar. We stopped in to eat and have a drink. We had a really nice spot overlooking the river and it was just nice and peaceful. I tried the mermaid margarita and it was good. Also had a shrimp Alfredo pasta and it was extremely delicious! Would definitely come back to hang out again.

Service couldve been much more regular. My pasta was just awful and needing more Alfredo in the sauce, too gritty. Mozzarella sticks were bland, oysters had no option to be fresh, only fired. Margaritas were far too sweet and unflavorful. Scene was just, okay

Food was great except for the goat cheese appetizer, which was an odd mix of flavors... Good luck finding parking during peak times. Other than that, extremely enjoyable experience, the rest of the food was tasty, and sitting by the water at night with all the lights and so on was quite lovely.

To start I want to say that my complaints are only about the food, our server Nick was amazing and super attentive and sweet! However, I went to Ivar s yesterday to get my favorite food ever, the fried goat cheese, and a rib plate for my entree. I even double checked the menu online. Unfortunately they ve apparently changed the menu recently and took off ALL the best items! Even the deviled eggs with fried oysters are gone! It was extremely disappointing to show up and not be able to get any of our favorite items. We tried the replacement goat cheese appetizer but it wasn t nearly as good as the fried goat cheese. The menu is super basic now and for some reason they ve added Italian food at a pub??? I probably won t be back unless the menu is returned to its former glory:(

Based on the recommendation, me along with my friends and their families went to this restaurant for lunch. Pros Taste - 4/5 Location - 4/5 Cons Quantity - 2/5 Service - 0/5 (The server - C Jose, spilled the soup on my lap and was not bothered even to apologize). It is high time the restaurant owners concentrate on the service else people are going away.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Ivars River Pub in San Marcos, Texas, for lunch with my family, and it was a delightful experience from start to finish. This place has some amazing scenery being right on the river! Thats the good now the bad. To say the service was bad would imply that there was service to begin with. Not the case. We were seated at our table and given no utensils our waiter came by and asked what we wanted for drinks and then promptly disappeared. We ordered drinks and appetizers and when the food was brought to us the waiter still didnt bring utensils. I had to go back to the hostess to get them myself. About 15 minutes later I was able to flag our server down again and order 2 more drinks. This time it only took about 10 minutes to get them back to us. Unfortunately my wife ordered a mojito and the mint was all brown and wilted. I had to fish it out her glass. Truly nasty. We decided it was time to leave this place but again, cannot find our server. I walked up to the bar and asked if I could pay my bill with them. That was the best interaction I had in the place. The guy who was helping the bartender was there on his 1st day and provided us with the best service. I would recommend going anywhere else than this place.

The food was decent. I was there for a birthday celebration for my 80 yr old grandmother. It was very busy and there were a lot of people waiting, but we were able to enjoy our food and the river and people floating by with their dogs on canoes. Overall a good place to check out.

Took in-laws, they put us on the patio and it was a nice view of the river and park. Food is always pretty good but the cheese app we got could have had more bread. The service was really the week spot of the experience.

If youve never been here, then you should. It is absolutely beautiful. The pub sits right on the river, creating a wonderful view, and there is a choice of indoor seating or the screened in porch. The food was great and the service was excellent. It is a great place to bring friends and enjoy.

I cant even rate anything because no one ever helped me. Extremely disappointed. 1 and a half hour wait, yet no one was waiting. I counted 8 open tables. ? Hostess said open seating in bar. I sat at a table for 10 minutes. Waitress looked at me a few times. Finally, I had to ask her if I could order, she very rudely said the hostess was supposed to give me a menu and silverware. I went back to hostess stand and she told me I could only AT the bar. I went and sat AT the bar. Only one bartender and he didnt acknowledge me or two others. For 10 more minutes! He was too busy making drinks only for the servers.Terrible service and awareness. I walked out after 25 minutes of trying. But my opinion wont matter. They are sheer volume not quality. They will make money anyway. Very unfortunate. Wont go back

I must have caught them a bad day. The restaurant itself is very picturesque and lively. The menu had plenty favorites to choose from, several people celebrating birthdays there and our server was great. Unfortunately, it seemed that they were out of the things that you would expect a restaurant not to be out of. No straws, no spoons, etc.. that s just how it goes sometimes but I will definitely visit them again the next time I m in San Marcos.
