Because of all the great reviews, We decided to give this place to try while in San Marcos. This place is located in a very busy, dingy area of downtown. It took us 20 minutes to park! When we found the place, I was in shock! Its a lack-luster, run-down diner! No childrens menu for the 4-year old. Classic burger for her, grown up burger for me, 3-pc. chicken tenders for the 12-year-old an order of fries (didnt know the entrees came with fries) and a strawberry shake. $44, thank you very much! Worst food EVER! The burgers were flatter than baloney, dried out, crumbled when you but into them, so much mustard you could gag, greasy beyond 20 napkins! Although I enjoyed the fries, the 4-year-old DID NOT APPRECIATE ALL THE PEPPER. The staff kindly replace hers, unseasoned. The shake was great! EVERYTHING ELSE WENT INTO THE TRASH! NEVER GOING BACK!

Omg! Delicious!!!!!!!! These old fashioned burgers are sooooo good!! I opted for the onion rings... . These perfectly battered rings were so tasty!! Unlike most places that only give about 5-6 rings, Jax gave a generous portion! We also ordered the chicken strips and fries.....and these did not disappoint!! Beverage options were tea, lemonade, water, and a variety of crafted flavor sodas. The blue coconut soda was yummy! I will definitely be making the drive out from San Antonio to eat at this little gem again!

I love onion rings, and yet I am always decisive on buying them since most places dont know how to make them. Now let me tell you when I say wow these are nothing short of perfect. The breading is flakey and savory; the seasoning just adds that much more favor. The onions are soft and at that consistent; each one was the same and thats exactly what I want. No doubt will I be back. Thanks for the awesome service and the great experience!

The burgers are made to order, with high-quality fresh meats beef, chicken, and even hotdogs. Everything Ive tried here has been top-notch. On my last visit, I ordered the Patty Melt, and it was nothing short of amazing. It was a large, juicy beef patty with melted cheese and perfectly grilled onions sandwiched between slices of Texas Toast. It was ooey, gooey, and cooked to perfection. My buddy opted for the Avocado Bacon Cheeseburger, which was loaded with crispy bacon and creamy avocado. The fries, as always, were hot, fresh, and perfectly seasoned. One of the unique touches at Jax is the Jalapeno Ketchup at the table a spicy treat that adds an extra kick for those who love a bit of heat. The soda fountain offers a wide variety of flavors, including Mexican colas and diets as well as fresh iced tea is a refreshing option. A special salute to the Fried Pickles crispy, hot, and bursting with that tangy dill flavor, they make a good accompaniment to any burger or hot dog, served with a side of ranch dressing. The rest of the menu is pretty good with different types of fries and rings and burgers, dogs and sandos to satisfy anyones taste. Tuesday are also 2 for $22. Two burgers, fries and drinks for 22 bucks. The atmosphere at Jax Burgers is reminiscent of an old-time burger shop, complete with benches and table seating. The burger makers are always friendly and smiling; the food comes out quickly and hot. If youre in the mood for a nostalgic, down home burger experience, Jax Burgers in San Marcos is the place to be.

My daughter and I were looking for a place to eat so I turned to google and this place came up. At first I was like.. well it s a typical burger joint but let s try it!! Be that as it may but I was very pleased first with the service. We were greeted as soon as we walked in the door. I like when I m acknowledged as a customer. Because I chose your place. There were three guys working. The young man at the counter was very friendly and didn t rush us in what to order. We placed our order and I struck up a conversation with one of the cooks. He was very nice as well. We sat down and waited a short time for our food. As I said in the beginning it s your typical burger joint but it s actually not these burgers were so good with lots of flavor and so were the fries. It was super delicious. I also got the fried pickles they were delicious as well. I ll definitely visit this place again..

The fries were absolutely awesome. The crisp on the wings was like heaven for that crispyness. Disappointed by the flavor options. Very generic. The burger, however, not so great. Got an original and it just tasted like oil and mustard. No actual meat or grill flavor. Even grease flavor would have been better. The shakes were also just meh. Tasted like Hershey syrup. Will go back to try the chicken sandwiches since their fry game seems to be on point though. Hopefully those taste good. If not, then kinda sad a place boasting about their burgers, fries, and shakes only got one of the three

Food was amazing. Cooked good & seasoned perfectly. I m a 6 3 black man, full of tattoos so I can see how my outward appearance could make someone feel some type of way, I guess, but when I came in the lady with the shaved head greeted us moderately. Kind of dry but she did her job. So me and my girlfriend sat down, & we noticed that some of the customers just stared. Weird right? The lady gave us our food & we chowed down. Food was excellent. While eating, the guys behind the counter kept staring at me, so I stared back. Not in a defensive way but as to think why are yall staring? And what s going on with my food . Call it anxiety or PTSD but now all my senses are heightened. My girlfriend goes to refill the sodas in our cups, and the cook (guy with bandana on head and blue eyes) comes around & looks at me. I think finally he s going to ask how good the food was . Nope. Just walks by and stares & I stare back. The most weirdest food experience I ve been in because the food was perfect. Just wished the customer service matched.

Cute busy little burger joint that does it right. Had our first trip here and the onion rings are simply the best Ive had in decades (beating out other places known for their rings by far). Ordered delivery, we got two bacon cheeseburgers. They were meh , patties were overcooked and not even warm. (Know I had delivery but if made fresh they should have been at least warm) I can live with that. But my rings where cold and supper salty. We also got fries and tots with chile and cheese. Chile seemed to be overcooked and we did not like the taste, salty also. I threw my tots away. Couple hours latter I was glued to the toilet. IDK, my husband had Jaxs before and he loved it but this time no Bueno. Most of their reviews are great so maybe no delivery and skip the Chile.

Very laid back place. My san marcos local parents brought me and my husband here while visiting for the holidays. Jaxs is one of the best burgers we have had in years. Food was good except for the confusion with the menu. I ordered the Texas burger. The posted menu states that it comes with chile, grilled jalapeños, mustard, lettuce, tomato and onion. It came with all that except with chili instead of chile and it had cheese. This is not a big deal but for me but could be for someone else. Cute hole in the wall joint right there in downtown San Marcos! Burgers great, but the fries? They are killer, we tried the sweet potato fries AND the garlic parmesan fries. This place is amazing! Walking in we were greeted right away, and the lady taking out our was really nice. I got the bacon cheeseburger with a side of parm fries. They had to be in the top 5 parm fries that I have had, they tasted like they used real ingredients, which is amazing. After ordering my burger, the gentleman in the back asked me how I like the meat cooked, and I even got grilled onions (amazing choice). I even asked for a side of ranch and a side of mayo (for my fries) and they were really nice to give me a side of each. The burger was fantastic, really juicy and delicious, good flavor. Overall one of the best burgers in TX that I have had so far. Thank you for the great experience.

My niece wanted to go to the outlets for her birthday and wanted burgers before shopping. We dont live in San Marcos, so we looked up burger places and settled on Jax. Im sooo glad we did! Some of the best burgers weve had from a restaurant in a long time. Their onion rings are THE BOMB! They have a limited menu, and thats good. They know what they do well and stick to it. Had an exceptional experience at Jax Burgers in downtown San Marcos! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by a friendly server who clearly took pride in their craft. On their recommendation, I indulged in the bacon cheeseburger, while my wife savored the cheeseburger with grilled onions. Both were simply phenomenal. Best burger I have had in a long time possible since moving to Texas. Certainly the best burger this side of Austin. The shroom burger was great and I was told the classic was as well. Had sweet potato fries, parm fries, and my kid had onion rings all where great but the onion rings where especially well done. I was warned the double burgers can be to much and went with a single which was more than enough. Price was also very reasonable! Parking is on the street and the location is down town but totally worth it. Parking: Parking is a little rough but we went at noon on a Thursday and it wasnt to bad.

Also purchased a JAX branded ball cap...really wanted a 3X t-shirt for my grandson; but, have to wait until they place a new order after they sell the merch in smaller sizes they had on hand. P.S. Food was good..I got a baja burger it was very good and loaded with jalapeños .Had me sweating a bit..the atmosphere is ok.. laid back place it is very small.If I did have a complaint it was the lack of variety of fountain drink choices..they need the regulars like Pepsi and coke or sprite..Im not even sure what they had was even soda or what it was..other then that it was ok.. look to drop $16 for burger and fries and drink.

Burgers are always cooked perfect, veggies are fresh, bread is great. Fries and onion rings cooked perfect every time we go. Only thing lacking is you will get a greasy spoon odor in the dining area, and the bathrooms could use some improvement, but for me these are minor things. Highly recommend.

Earlier today, my errands took me through the square and there was actually an open parking space so I took advantage and dropped in. Been in a burger depression since Centerpoint Station closed shop. Holy cow! Best burger in San Marcos, no debate! You folks should seriously consider opening a second location, preferably on the south side.

Food was delicious and great customer service. We had called a few places to see if they could accommodate our basketball family of 20-30 people and was told no. I would recommend making sure hours are correct on Google. Hours said closed at 6, but when we called they said 9 and could accommodate us.

By far the best burger I have tasted here in San Marcos since the original Gordos on the square or Peppers at the falls! Nice FRESH meat and just greasy enough, the way a burger and bun should be. Onion rings fried to perfection. Just wish the place was a little roomier. Tables a little tight for space and wish they had regular Colas and not the other kind. But on the plus they had KOOL-ADE!

Phenomenal burgers and food! I came in with my unit, and we were thoroughly impressed with everything. We also made a mishap on communication about getting the waffle fries instead of regular fries for one of my guys. They immediately, and without question made it right and got us a whole new basket of waffle fries on the house. That type of service and willingness to put your customer first always sits right with me! I ll be coming back way more often now that we ve unearthed this gem.

Me and my grandson went to eat there for first time.. I got Bacon Cheeseburger with fries n drink .My grandson got Double Meat Bacon Cheeseburger with cajun fries..Everything was awesome very tasty and hot food..I had been reccomending family n friends to try it out..You will not be disappointed..Best burgers by far... Food was good! Fries were delish!! However the manager grilled me for an online coupon I used!! He came up to me multiple times asking about it and it made me feel uncomfortable!! HEB has JAX coupons on the back of the receipt, so when my husband and I went to try the place we forgot the coupon. But I remembered they have it online via the receipt. I pulled it up and the manager totally interrogated me about it. After asking questions about how my coupon was online, he even came up to the table we were eating at to still ask more questions!! It made me so uncomfortable and was definitely unprofessional. I ve worked in the food industry majority of my college career and i believe the situation was handled poorly. Coming up to my table after we already answered his questions at the register is uncalled for. However he did honor the coupon, but made us feel super uncomfortable.
