The Flamenco nights are fantastic. Particularly when the flamenco troop from Austin Flamecura show up. The food is as always, just amazing. We ve been going to Carmen s, since she was over on mistletoe. Just love the vibe in the atmosphere.

We loved Carmens when they were on Mistletoe, but Friday, Nov 22, 2019 was our first visit to their new location on N Flores. We took our 21 year old granddaughter and her 22 year old fiance. We were SO LUCKY that there was a four-top that wasnt reserved. The venue is very small so there are no bad seats. We arrived early so that we could order a table full of tapas before starting on the Sangria. The tapas were really good. We had savory empenadas, mahi-mahi fish tacos, queso fondido and potatoes with cheese. Every thing was good, and the house made Sangria is GREAT! Service was just right, even when the house filled up. Two things we will do differently next time:. 1) we will reserve a table online before we go, and 2) park on the street just outside. A bit pricey (about $50 a person including cover charge and $20 parking due to our ignorance). We will be going back, and want to catch jazz Thursday as well! OLE!

Amazing food and atmosphere. Every experience we have had in the restaurant has been outstanding, but today I am writing to rave about their empanadas. I ordered several dozen for an event, and they were a total hit- fresh, warm, filling, perfect for parties, great variety of fillings and veggie options, and comes with Carmens signature sauce. These should be a staple at San Antonio events! Carmens was so accommodating. Check out their empanada hotline. THE BEST!

I like this place, I really do, but last weekend it was bad overall. My partner and I attended the event Poetas and Paellas, that announced a group of poets saluting Federico Garcia Lorca and a flamenco guitarist. We spent a good amount of money to reserve a table with two paellas and sangria. The lack of good service was unbelievable, it took 23 min to get our prepaid sangria and after 45 more minutes, I had to go ask if they forgot about the paella. The server asked if it was ok for me to get a vegetarian paella because they were running out of the seafood paella. No, it was not ok and she could have had the courtesy to go to my table a while before and asked about that. After 20 more minutes we had the food, the show was over and the flamenco guitarist never showed up. It would have been nice to know that, I was going there for the music.

My experience wasnt horrible, but it wasnt good either. Came on a Saturday night about 10:15. They were supposed to close at 12 & had a jazz band. Upon arrival I was told I needed to order my food immediately & that the band would be quitting at 11. The owner told me since it was the last hour of the band, I would only be charged $10 vs $40. I wished she had tried to of charged me $40 so I could have left immediately. Ordered the meat & cheese plate (that was ok), the brussel sprouts (that was amazing), & this jambalaya seafood dish (flavor was good but the seafood was very overcooked & chewy - bummer). At 10:30 the band said they were going to take a 2 minute break, and my Mom & I waited, but instead didnt come back till 10:50 & then offered to play 1 more song. During that time the staff kept trying to rush us & get us out of there. By the time the band tried to grace us with their presence, I was completely over it. We left Completely Disappointed. If youre looking for jazz & good food, I instead Entirely Recommend Jazz TX! Have always had amazing service, food, drinks, & atmosphere there!

This is not a place, it is an experience! Very authentic Spanish food, from paella to kale, there s something for everyone. The food is delicious. Warm and cozy with flickering candles on the table in an intimate setting. Of course there s a bar for your drinking pleasure, and many artful happenings in the evening. The night I attended happened to be a Flamenco dancing group, and they were superb. The location of this place makes it sketchy just because it s at the edge of the downtown area, and you have to find and pay for parking in one of the open city lots. But it is worth the time and money to check this venue out.

The chef is accommodating for vegetarians and vegans and has a great options already. I highly recommend these dishes: PAELLA, brussel sprouts, tortilla espanola, Moroccan Sausage, veggie empanadas, warm kale salad, queso fundido, chicken and waffles, spicy brownie and ice cream and much much more! Specialty cocktails are made with freshly squeezed fruits and citrus so I definitely recommend the fresh margaritas! The entertainment is also top notch! Ive enjoyed multiple nights of jazz, bossa nova, flamenco performances, live reggae, Latin nights and even traditional Indian music!

Weve been going to Carmens since we moved to San Antonio in 2001. Back then it was located off St. Marys on Mulberry. Paula moved to this location on North Flores a couple of years ago to try to pick up a little more tourist trade. Two things on offer here - really good food with reasonable size portions, and excellent music. Open Thursdays-Saturday nights and for Sunday brunch. Friday nights are usually Flamenco, with both local and national acts. A really good group from Austin, Flamencura, the Cuban guitar player is one of the best youll ever hear. The food is small plates - if youre a big fan of all-you-can-eat portions, this is not the place for you. For my money, its the best food in town. The cover runs from $10-$20 per person if you want to hear the music / dancing, but its not required - shows usually start at 8:30, so if you go after 6 you can eat and leave before it starts. The menu has staples but changes depending on whats fresh - the empanadas are especially good, and I wont leave without having the ha-cha-cha brownie (spicy with a scope of ice cream). This place is unique - not a chain, found only in San Antonio and truly home-grown.
