Intro: for a carribean / Jamaican spot, this was below average. Pros: -service was okay when taking my order and it wasn t crowded Cons: -curry and jerk chicken was below average. Curry was bland and the jerk chicken was pretty much BBQ chicken. -the rice and the cabbage was bland -the price did not dictate the quality of food. Overall: It s best to find another Jamaican restaurant.

The food is hot amd fresh made to order. I love the golden yellow crusted meat pies. Oh my goodness, its delicious! You have to try one! Also, the smoked jerk chicken from the pit with rice & peas on the menu, which is actually rice and beans. The oxtail is a favorite. Its also smoked from the pit and extremely tender with a flavored rue/sauce. Anyhow, its a small tucked away place with a big authentic Jamaican flavor. If youve ever been on a cruise to Jamaica and taste the food there, well look no further.

We ordered the oxtails with mashed potatoes and veggies and the curried goat with peas and rice and veggies. The inside is perfect for a quiet dinner but we decided to take ours to go. The young lady at the counter was very helpful. We tried to order the fish but she said that was only available for breakfast. The price is a little on the higher end, but not completely unreasonable. The food was hot and fresh. My only complaint is that some of the food was too salty and other parts werent quite seasoned enough. Overall, it was a good visit.

Called when they first opened and they didnt have any curry goat at all or plaintains. They also didnt have conch was told it was out of season. They didnt have mannish water was told they make soups on the weekend. Ordered oxtail and had to wait an hour for it to be finished. The oxtail was ok... the callalloo and saltfish was amazing... had some left over for the next day and wowza... it all tasted sooo much better the next day!! Looking forward to trying other dishes from ths place. This place is in an urban area... was parked, sitting in my car waiting for the food to finish and a homeless person came up to me begging me for money. So be careful. I ordered lg oxtail plate, side of oxtail and callaloo & saltfish all came up to a little under $60 a bit pricey.

I should have took pictures but I took one bite and couldn t stop Let me start from the beginning of my experience. I walked in and was greeted within 30 seconds. Great customer service. They even checked back in with me to let me know my meal was almost ready. They had fair prices for all the dishes. Even the oxtails were cheaper than I m used to seeing. I ordered the Curry Goat and Jerk Chicken Combo ($25) with 2 sides (rices & peas, fried dumpling) the fried dumplings was made fresh and was so worth the extra wait. Curry goat fell off the bone and had the perfect amount of heat The Jerk chicken carried great flavor and heat. The best part of the chicken was that the white meat was soooo juicy. The Rice and peas were fluffy and I could taste the flavor and heat of the scotch bonnet. I honestly enjoyed everything and wouldn t change anything. This will be my new Jamaican spot because they are definitely the best in SA.

I try my best to support black businesses, but this will definitely be my last time visiting here. First of all I waited 27 minutes for day old food. The only thing that tasted fresh was the cabbage. The quality of food and customer service has severely diminished in the past few months. I don t understand why but I will visit Mr.Teriyaki next time for fresh food in a timely manner. Enjoy the $17 for poor food and services Jerk Shack food and customer service is better.

Let me start by saying I am fairly new to San Antonio, as I have not resided here even a year yet; however, I have an affinity for exploring food and culture. Regarding food, Jamaican food is among my favorites! Through my extensive travel, one would think that all Jamaican restaurants would have their own je ne sais quoi that gives you that nostalgic island experience that you may be looking for through your taste buds, unfortunately this is not always the case. However, I am so elated to write that Real Real Jamaica is among the best! From the time I stepped in, the ambience and the cashier/greeter was welcoming and patient while I studied and decided on items within the menu. My food was delivered directly from who I believed to be the cook, and was delivered with the same congenial personality. I made it home and... Well, ya know (LOL!) Needless to say, Ill be returning, and I hope the next time I visit, it is just as good or exceeds the first time.

This place has really gone downhill. I spent $28 on the oxtail and jerk chicken combo and it was a disappointment! The oxtail had more bones than meat and the jerk chicken was extra dry and tasted like bland baked chicken with no seasoning. I got up to inform the waitress about the issues but all she stated was that it was jerk chicken and they had to get the jerk seasoning elsewhere and just said sorry and didnt try to rectify the situation. I ended up not eating it and left the establishment. If you love Jamaican food like I do, this place isnt it! I wouldnt spend my hard earned money at this establishment again. Edit: Response to the owner: If you read the post correctly, it didnt state anything about me wanting the chicken spicy it was extra dry and tasted like bland baked chicken with no seasoning. My boyfriend got the rasta pasta which was a different plate than the one I received so why would he complain about the same thing? Instead of being combative why dont you look at some of your poorly rated reviews within the last 6 months and improve the quality of your food and customer service so you wouldnt be receiving reviews such as this.

Soo disappointed! We are of 5 people were so excited to eat some good Jamaican food. But we sat there about 15 min the waitress brought the menu and didn t even say good morning, and never looked us in the eye! Other black people came in and they were immediately helped. And we were still waiting, after another 15 min we decided to leave. The waitress didn t care at all!We are from the Caribbean and some of my best friends are Jamaican and I guarantee you they don t treat people like this. I never thought I would feel so discriminated by our own people.

The oxtail are cooked to perfection!!! I promise that this is the golden spot!

I ordered on 2/10/2024 around 4pm. My food order was about 76.00. I did order from Uber Eats, so the order was over 50.00. For over 50.00 dollars, I got a small cartoon of food The food was okay, but not for the price. I also called to order beef patties and was rudly told they were out. I really try to support Black businesses. I am not a person that complain, but I was shocked at the small portions I received. 2 orders of rice and peas, 2 pieces of chicken, Ox tails and curry goat, in a small container was extremely expensive. The food was not bad, but it was not extraordinary. I did take pictures of the food when it arrived. This is my first and last time ordering from them. This meal was for two people. I thought we would have something left. I guess I was wrong.

If I could give it zero stars, I would. I paid $13 plus tax for a jerk chicken dinner. I got home, opened the plate? Two drumsticks over some dry, flavorless rice & peas. The cabbage was decent but...THIRTEEN dollars for two drumsticks? Do not patronize this business. Go next door to the Gordos taco truck: better pricing, better seasoned food, & WAY bigger portions.

For example, you may have to go back to the counter for extra napkins or another drink, etc. Heres a tip: if dining in, sit close to the counter, that way you are within reach. Loved the food! I like mine a little spicy, like the old chef made them. Also the steamed veggies were tasteless. The pasta was mid. Definately spicy but it also had no flavor. AND the service was HORRIBLE! It took an hr to get my food. Not sure why they fired their first crew BUT BRING THEM BACK!! I will say the food looked good though.. but looks can be deceiving.

It came with a lot of rice and some vegetables. My mom got the jerk chicken and that was pretty good too. The food is great, but the wait time is ridiculous. I called my order in at 2:30 they said, 10mins. Got there at 2:47 left at 3:15. Literally went to grab lunch for my spouse it took so long he lost his appetite. $60 for two large oxtail plates that cost an argument and delay in my whole schedule. Last time I dined in they forgot about my friends plate. Talk about awkwardly waiting. I just ask to suggest a minimum wait time of 30mins. The other annoying thing was while I was waiting 5 other orders completed. 7 songs played, drinks changed temperatures. And the lady asked what I was waiting on an proceeded to only resolve an online order discrepancy. Just order ahead and remind them what order they re on. Otherwise it s good just expensive and takes more than 30 mins.

I believe they were the owners Children. They were extremely helpful with describing the various foods to offer. Like wise they were polite and courteous. As I sat at my table I notice the cleanliness of the establishment, I was impressed. As I left near closing time 2 employees were without hast cleaning up wiping down tables & sweeping the floor w/mop & bucket on standby. I am new to San Antonio Texas from New York. I wanted some Jamaican food! Today i decided to visit this location. I was hungry and took the drive with an empty stomach looking forward to eat some really good Jamaican food. I was very disappointed when I got to the restaurant. They did not have a lot on the menu when I got there so I ordered a large oxtails, large curry goat and a large stew chicken all with rice and peas. After getting home I tried all the food that I ordered. The oxtails was cooked long enough where it was very tender which is always a plus when it comes to oxtails but other than that the seasoning and the taste was very off, the other two items I got had the same issue. All three items were very salty and not very much enjoyable. I am very disappointed. I love food especially Jamaican food but I definitely won t be going back to that location. It was a waste of a drive and money.!

Came here with high hopes but was supremely disappointed with the entire experience. The jerk pork and chicken they served had no little to no jerk rub on the meat. The jerk pork served might as well have been regular pork and the chicken was exactly the same. Everytime i explained why i didnt like it they always had something to say whether that be oh the jerk porks dry because there was no skin or the the jerk chicken is fine and everyone else thinks so. Ok fine everyone else thinks this is what jamaican food is supposed to taste/look like than so be it. I know different and respectfully disagree that this place serves authentic jamaican food. My opinions are based on 33 years of living in toronto surrounded by jamaicans/jamaican food/ and thus place is not even close to being the same tier as basic Mr Jerk which should be the standard.

This place is over 20 minutes from my house, and thats the only thing stopping me from making this a weekly stop. This is the definition of a hidden gem. Real Real Jamaica is a tiny little shop overshadowed by a busy teriyaki joint next door. Ignore the noise. RRJ is the place you want. I suggest the chicken curry with the sides of plantains and rice and beans.

My wife and I visited the restaurant over the weekend for our first experience of Jamaican food. It was a whole experience, with Jamaican room design and colors. It was early afternoon, so not many people were there, and the cuties young lady providing the best customer we have experienced at a restaurant in some time. I had the Signature Jerk Chicken with vegetables and plantains, while my wife had the wings and vegetables with rice (they were out of fries). They alerted us of the 15 minutes wait for the wings but the Jerk Chicken was ready to serve. The food was delicious. My Jerk Chicken wasnt overly spicy, just right, and the veggies were evenly cooked. We both agreed that the plantain was great. We also tried the cultural drinks, which we liked. Though we have never visited Jamaica, the restaurant gave us an island vibe (while watching Arkansas Razorbacks get spanked by the Kentucky Wildcats ). It was quite the serving of food, I may add. We plan to return. Parking: We had to park across in the HEB parking lot because parking was an issue while we were there in the late afternoon. Some cars were doubled parking in the lot and we didnt want to wait.

First I m say I was very excited to see this restaurant yesterday because I couldn t find a authentic Jamaican restaurant since moving to San Antonio 7 months ago. I come from south Florida aka Fort Lauderdale where everywhere you turn there is Jamaican restaurant to name a few Dutch pot,Donnas, carls seafood , golden crust .And also my family is Jamaican so I know the taste, so me coming from Fort Lauderdale and haven t seeing and great places to get Jamaican food so you see how excited I was that I saw this restaurant. Now I bought festival which was really good and patty s was really good too, my daughter want to go bk to get more. But I went for the oxtail, the oxtail was not good at all, the color didn t look like authentic Jamaican oxtails there was no browning color didn t taste any type of ketchup it was so salty no flavor but salt, and it didn t taste like it was brown in a Dutch pot it taste like it was stewed or in a crockpot or something it was definitely not in a Dutch pot and they add potatoes and carrots like they make stew oxtail I gave it a 0 . I also got the fried chicken with rice and peas and oxtail gravy again the color of the oxtail was not good the sauce made the rice supper salty the chicken wasn t bad but the plantain it was in so much oil that it was gooey plantain suppose to be fried lightly then place on a paper towel to get some of the oil of they definitely didn t do that. I would not be going back I just make my own food, very upset. FYI when you go in the store you can smell the smoking of jerk pork which made me say this food finna be good it smelled so good I couldn t wait but was let down .

We were pleasantly surprised when we found this gem!!! We stopped in here for lunch on January 8, 2023. I had the small size order of oxtails with cabbage, rice and peas, plantains and mango peach tea. These were the best tasting and most tender oxtails I ve found in San Antonio. The rice and peas, cabbage, and plantains were also extremely good tasting. Hubby had the small order of Jerk chicken with rice and peas, cabbage and plantains and mango peach tea. He said it was the best Jerk Chicken he has ever had. Very well seasoned, tender, and moist. The rice and peas were very good as well as the cabbage. The plantains were excellent as well. We have been searching all over for some delicious oxtails and Jerk chicken for quite some time and are pleased to say you need not look any further. This is the spot!!! The food is GREAT!! The portions are huge and the price is very good!!! We would definitely recommend and will certainly be returning. The restaurant is clean and has ample seating and great ambiance.

Where do I start!? I arrived place was clear and clean, I m skeptical but optimistic! I ordered the Oxtails.. rice n peas w plantain, Beef patty and coco bread. Oh MY GOD!!! I ordered the large helping and there was more than enough but I couldn t resist ordering a second plate because ME GREEDY YA KNOW!! I m from Miami and there in my opinion is the closest to Jamaican realness!! However when I bit into my Jamaican patty that I ordered as well and had arrived first was like I was sitting in Jamaica right in San Antonio, Texas!! I started to talk in Rasta!! The Jamaican music set the perfect mood for an Awesome Enjoyable Moment in time!! The chef came out and served me and was so sweet and hospitable I instantly knew that love was heavily used in the food cooked! I can say so much about this place because I TRULY LOVED AND ENJOYED MY MEAL and EXPERIENCE. The WHOLE STAFF WAS EXCEPTIONAL by the time left it was packed with customers waiting patiently for their turn!! *** Looking for a good meal? Look no further, AUTHENTIC JAMAICAN CUISINE ***

Today we were hoping not to visit that place by Military. They are waay too over priced, the food is at times waay over spiced which takes away from enjoying what little taste remains, and the Jerk chicken is dry. Even though they pride themselves as being a Jamaican restaurant with a twist/elevated, the authenticity is hugely lacking. Brand Jamaica should not be taken lightly. Then comes Real Real Jamaica all di way mi seh! Im am so thrilled that I found authentic Jamaican cuisine via Real Real Jamaica. Today I bought two large Oxtail meals and a small Jerk chicken. The Oxtail pieces are sized perfectly, exactly what Im accustomed to, not the big ole Oxtail pieces you find in the local grocery store chain. The rice and peas was perfect, I could actually taste the coconut, YES!! The spice on the Jerk chicken was balanced and not over powering, my taste buds sang a tune I Ionged for. All, take it from me, if you want to taste the Real Real Jamaica, whichs boasts its authenticity with every bite, I implore you to get your but down to.......................Real Real Jamaica . I highly recommend. A++ **Oh, did I mention their food is priced just right** **Mi seh dem food price naah gu bruck di bank** **Very Affordable **

I am Caribbean. So I don t mince words when it comes to authentic Caribbean food. Though I am not Jamaican, I know what makes my tastebuds sing. As I am scraping the scraps of my second plate (I actually dined in yesterday and took a different meal home) together, I am in shambles. My meal is coming to an end. The rice and beans were rice and beaning. The plantains were soft and sweet, reminding me of home. The curried goat was fall off the bone delectable. And the jerk chicken left me humming as I ate. In laymen s terms, the food was spiced just right. And the portions were on point. I WILL be trying the fish next. And I know I will not be disappointed. Trenciyah (I know I butchered it) provided excellent service. I even bonded with two ladies while we waited for our meal and subsequently ate together. Good food can bring the world together. Try Real Real Jamaica! You won t be disappointed!
