Be careful with yellow wasps and red south Texas wasps bring insect med just in case someone gets stung. When your walking past a hollow tree you may not see them or if you have a perfume scent on you that might attract them also.

This is one of the most beautiful spots in San Antonio. If you re over the ridge, the highway noise vanishes and it is so serene. It s a great spot to hike hills; we trained for a Yosemite trip here and meet lots of other climbers! I m a devoted dog-mom, but the peace of this nature preserve is worth leaving the pup at home!

This may be the best park in San Antonio to go on a real hike. The trails vary wildly in difficulty from some that are nearly flat to others that require some careful foot placement to clamber over boulders. Notably, one of the best features of this park is the shade. I d estimate 90% of the trails are shaded, so you can go for a hike here in summer without too much chance of sunburn. It s very popular on weekends, with the parking lot quickly filling up and spilling over on to the street.

This park offers a wide variety of experiences and difficulties. I believe the longest loops spans about 6 miles. The attempt to keep the trails looking great is noticeable, however people ignore the signs stating no pets, and that is a disappointment. There are plenty of parks to take my dogs to, but this one is a nice break from the bad dog owners. I d love to see it kept that way.

Our favorite trails in the area! One of the only ones near San Antonio where you can actually experience at least a bit of elevation. :) Most of the short to medium length trails are mostly entirely shaded, you can also take the longer, ore backwoods trails and those are less shaded. Do not underestimate how much water you need in the summer time! If you have not yet built up tolerance to extreme heat do not take the long trails in the summer! However, if you love the triple digits and can withstand extreme sun, and take plenty of extra water, we definitely recommend them. And the paved trails alone are absolutely worth taking. :)

Visiting Friedrich Park was an absolutely beautiful experience, one that I would recommend to anyone looking for a bit of nature and a good workout. The park offers a wide variety of trails that cater to all levels of hikers, from beginners to the more adventurous souls looking for a challenge. What impressed me the most was how well-maintained and clearly marked the trails were. With multiple maps and direction stands thoughtfully placed throughout the park, navigation was a breeze, ensuring that even those new to the park could find their way without any trouble. The diversity of the trails is another highlight, offering everything from smooth, paved paths to more rugged terrains of rocks and dirt. This variety not only adds to the beauty and the natural feel of the park but also allows you to choose your adventure based on what youre in the mood for that day. I decided to take on a level 4 trail to test my limits, and it did not disappoint. It provided a fantastic workout, challenging yet immensely rewarding, though I would advise against bringing young children on the more intense trails. The park was lively with a decent amount of fellow hikers, which added to the friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Yet, it never felt crowded or overwhelming, striking the perfect balance between being a popular spot and retaining a sense of peace and solitude. In summary, Friedrich Park is a gem for anyone looking to immerse themselves in nature, enjoy a good hike, and maybe even push their physical limits. Whether youre after a leisurely walk or a rigorous workout, this park has something for you. I left with my legs tired but my spirit uplifted, already looking forward to my next visit.

This was my first visit to this park; its been long overdue for a native San Antonian. I drove from the Southside to this park, which was worth it, and we enjoyed the park, especially its trails and views, but mostly the smell. The fresh air, the quietness, and the rocky terrain are all a plus. Its been a great time visiting, and I hope to return soon. I noticed that there werent any photos of the map online, to my knowledge, so here is a photo of the park if you want to plan your walk and research their trails. No pets allowed; I want to make that clear to anyone heading over: no pets permitted because of the ecosystem. Restrooms can need some improvement. Especially the lighting. Great park, returning soon. Have a great time exploring!

Great park for hikes and long walks. There are multiple paths thru the park with a varying level of difficulty. We chose to stay on levels 1-3, which was not difficult at all. Level 4 and above means a bit of climbing may be involved. Much of the trail is has a canopy of cedar trees offering great shade for the hike. Take water with you and stay hydrated! No pets allowed. The main loop trail took us 1 hour and is about 3.5 miles. Very enjoyable.
