Dont visit on the weekends!! The staff seem to not want to be there, lack knowledge about the exhibits and dont have anything running for the visitors nor are there to carry out the staff-guided interactive displays. Its free, but something being free doesnt mean it has to be bad. Visited on

Today I tried to take my son. He is young (2 yo) but has enjoyed art museums and other science museums in the past. The website even states and has reviews stating it s good for children (some even siting taking their 2 yo). Perhaps this was just a bad day for the staff and my son because that was not my experience. I was looked down upon by 2 separate employees and was offered only judgements glances, not even an offer to hold the door open as I (also 8 months pregnant) had to carry my son out of the facility.

Cool place to check out & take your kid And it s all free which is great! Please be in mind this isn t your usual children s museum this is for the kids or adults who are into the brainy & science stuff we are talking Minecraft , Tesla , 3d printing & engineering & they also have a flight simulator for adults & kids which is awesome. It s not a super huge place probably took us about 40 minutes to explore & read everything but if you or your kid is into this kinda stuff you will definitely enjoy it!

Samsat area 21 is a great place for kids to have to visit and have fun. They currently have a few on display, and some under construction. But, each technology is unique and it would take over 30 minutes each to go through. I could imagine if everything is setup, I would be a much fun place to be. And, I must mention that the staff is very nice and the environment is safe, clean, modern, spacious, and comfortable. Nonetheless, it is worth a visit.

So much potential, but not ready for full, independent interaction. Docents werent available much of the time. And when they were, they couldnt demonstrate most of the exhibits. Not their fault ... the place is still a work in progress with many stovepipes of stakeholders.

Took two teenage boys here. When I asked them to rate, they said 5. When they get all the displays going, it will be super. However, after seeing the displays they enjoy all the computers for gaming. Barely got them pulled away to eat some lunch in the food court. That says a lot with teenage boys!

Samsat area 21 is a fun educational area free to anyone, I would recommend visiting the other samsat facility as well that houses a less hands on historical view of the progression of technology. They are currently still setting up so its a bit messy but I hope to come back soon and see the whole exhibit once its finished.

This is definitely a hidden gem. It looks abandoned and closed upon arriving but definitely open! Try to walk through with a tour guide. Sophia was super friendly and informative. The only thing we didnt like was we asked where the basement was and she just laughed at us and said theres no basement in the San Antonio museum of Science and Technology (Okay that whole last bit was a joke and a scene from Peewees Big Adventure, very few will get it) Back to reality, Sophia was awesome as was this place. This place is on an old Army base so the streets are not in a grid pattern, plus it looked deserted and closed. The museum is small and FREE, but they ask for donations and its worth giving something because the service was great! Staff were super friendly, the front desk staff chatted with us and made us feel welcome. Someone else offered us a tour around the place, which was cool. They have Tesla coils but apparently the person who runs the show was out :( We were told when the show is on, people get to see electricity and hold some poles to be a human conductor! The guide said you can feel the vibration in your whole body - definitely coming back for that show! You get to see changes in technology (phones and comupters) over time, so the kids learn something. They have a weird noise machine or musical instrument that Ive seen in a Star Trek episode (Im not joking) and the virtual reality sandbox was very cool - build mountains, make it rain or snow by making shadows with your hands, build lakes and rivers, see the elevations - interactive and fun for kids. Quick warning for parents with noise sensitive kiddos - the Tesla coils gets loud (according to the guide), lots of loud pops and bangs. The weird instrument is also loud and the high pitched sounds can get annoying - theyre in the same room. The sandbox is on the other side of the building, different room, so at least theres a way to escape the noise. Also, they are moving to new digs nearby in a few months.

I was impressed by the tour guide who was able to give detailed information on the many of the artifacts. They range from very old light bulbs to four operational Tesla Coils . There is a rich history which involves people from San Antonio that were integral parts of technical revolution in computer technology. It s well worth a visit and it s free. Enjoy the well air conditioned environment and the intellectual stimulation for many age groups!

Exhibits arent marked well, or at all in many cases. The place seemed more a collection of old things from some warehouse than a thoughtfully planned out experience. Since they only ask for a donation, the price was right. If youre into random ancient computer and assorted other aged electronics this is your destination. If you expect to come away knowing more than when you arrived youre probably going to be disappointed.
