Ive been trying to visit this gem for over a year, and theyre finally open post covid, although only a couple of days a week. I was expecting a history museum, but what I got was an art gallery dedicated to Mexican artists and culture. They encourage photography. Take advantage of this lovely stop in Hemisfair Park.

This is a nice small museum/gallery. It has two floors and when I went three exhibits. They were very interesting and I learned a lot. The location of this place is further away from some of the other attractions but if you are going to the Tower of Americas, you should go here as well. It is a great place to learn that isn t very time consuming. There is also a nice park nearby that you can visit as well.

The Instituto Cultural de México is always a wonderful destination for cultural and artistic events. The Vanilla and Chocolate Fest is an enlightening and tasty exhibit about two crops that originated in Mexico, Vanilla and Cacao. Opening night was SENSATIONAL, with the Gaya family, producers of Vanilla, and Somos Cultura y Más researchers and lovers of chocolate, Merri Gutierrez, Rebeca Barrera, and Carmen Perez in charge of a fun and informative presentation. In attendance were San Antonio luminaries Bexar County Judge Rosie Speedlin Gonzalez, Mexican Consul General Ruben Minutti Zanatta, Director Sergio Zapata, UTSA Dean Dean Hendrix, Dr. Ellen Riojas Clark, Attorney Margie Vera, and poet Nephtali De Leon, among many others. The Instituto Cultural de México is definitely a wonderful place to stop and enjoy the current exhibits.

This building should be torn down and the Art, if you want to call it that, should be moved to the San Antonio art museum. The exhibits are small and have much to be desired. The location is better suited for future development rather than what it is today.

We came by on a Wednesday and there was a sign on the front door saying they were open Thursdays and Fridays from 10 am to 5 pm. We came back on Thursday after 10 am and they were not open and no sign explaining why. The outside of the building had lots of op art Frida statues staged around the structure so I did get to photograph them. Ive enjoyed visiting in the past but the last two trips to S A this place has been closed.

This is ALWAYS a Great place to visit even if there ISNT a special event going on. The best thing its FREE and the Art exhibits change periodically depending on the time of season. It is a walking distance from the entrances regardless of where you park. Taking a stroll to get to the building is always nice and shady. The summer time can be extremely hot so make sure to take bottled water. This location does have elevators depending on an event they may block off that area but accommodations can be done. There are Restrooms available for those visiting and it is handicap accessible.

The Día de Muertos event was exquisito! November 1, 2019 from 6:00 to 9:00pm, we viewed the crazy beautiful altar installation, enjoyed DJ Rambo s music, pan de muerto and drinks, met fabulous people. Minister Sergio Zapata welcomed us. Master of Ceremonies was none other than Poet Laureate Carmen Tafolla. Ramon Vasquez y Sanchez spoke of hosting the first Día de Muerte in the USA here in San Antonio. The audience enjoyed Master Calaverista Nephtali De León, Healer Joyous Windrider Jimenez, and the Artivist who designed & installed the amazing Dia de Muertos Altar, David Zamora Casas.

This was my first visit to the Mexican Cultural Institute and I was impressed!! Their doors were open welcoming people during the opening night of Fiesta downtown at Hemisphere Park. The colorful pieces of the Mexican culture were brought to life by a docent telling the story of the creatures, each a mix of different animals. Really interesting and a great experience.

This is a very unique building. The artwork is very different from room to room. One room I liked (linocuts) and the other room was contemporary crayon drawings from what my 4 year old niece draws. All in all, its worth a visit.

Nice little contemporary art exhibit with free admission. The museum only had one exhibit on the first floor when I visited the other day but typically has displays on the second floor as well. It is located in the middle of Hemisfair Park and is easiest accessed by parking in the South Alamo Lot then walking to the museum. Will be back!

Just ran across a picture (online) that s currently on display. The words Rape Trump are written on it. This is not art. School groups go through this museum every day. It s not appropriate for our children to see this agenda. It teaches hate and disrespect. This is not ok, not even in the name of art. I will not be visiting and it needs to be taken down. Shame on whoever felt it was ok to display this.
