Beautifully lit restaurant with an enjoyable vibe. Great food and service. I recommend trying the queso flameado, their brisket birria quesadilla is my husbands favorite, and I love their chicken mole enchiladas! They even have a drive-thru.

We attended a family event which included a buffet of cheese enchiladas, beef and chicken fajitas garnished with bell peppers and rice and beans. This is the second family event Ive attended here. I will say the food is ok but the service we received was exceptional. We had 2 wait staff for approximately 60 people. They both were friendly and attentive to everyones needs. Kudos to Pedro and Yoseph. The atmosphere is welcoming and they do have a full service bar.

This was my second time at this restaurant and I was really disappointed that the food was not hot and lacked flavor. The margarita I tried the first time was a hit and the sangria I had today was also tasty. If I come back to this restaurant, it will be for the drinks. Nice atmosphere and waiter was friendly.

I know I gave this place 3 stars, but its more like a 3.5. I would grade this restaurant MUCH higher had the food been better, but it is a restaurant and that makes food the star. The food wasnt so terrible that I would never return, and I usually give restaurants a couple of tries just in case it was a bad day. I really dislike tearing businesses apart, so Ill just say that the food had no real flavor and was not hot... more like luke warm. The queso tasted like Velveeta queso that I make at home except I prefer mine because I put more medium Rotel in it. Overall, the food was edible, but far from memorable. Now to focus on the positives. I found the atmosphere very appealing and a great place to catch up with old friends or take your partner for a quick bite. The staff were very friendly and our waiter was a champ! All in all, Id say to visit as it could have been a off night for the cook. Ive certainly been in far worse restaurants and given them 2nd tries and this place certainly deserves that much. I hope the next time I visit the food steps up to the level of the service!

SEE LAST UPDAT.... From the young ladies that greeted us at the door to our server Caesar, nice to see a smile and great service. Now, the clouds are partying, the angels are singing, I think I might have found that mythical magical tortilla. The one my grandmother made. The one my mother used to make. It was soft and fluffy not too thick not too thin a little puffy here and there and you could feel the floury powder that dusted the surface. I want to go back here and just have tortillas and butter. Hopefully they wont change the tortilla on us. Sometimes you find a great tortilla and then for one reason or another it disappears, but for right now, it seems like were all in luck. The chips were light and crispy and for the first time, with this particular friend, we couldnt decide if we liked the red or the green hot sauce that comes with the chips. They were both so delicious, they both had their own nuance. So we mixed them together, problem solved LOL. I had the puffy Taco plate really good. It was a good picadillo filling. The lettuce and tomato were fresh and just enough cheese to make it interesting and the corn tortillas were some of the best Ive had. Im going to have to try their corn tortillas by themselves next time. Can you see a tortilla theme going on here LOL. Good rice and beans. My friend had the green enchiladas. They gave me a taste of them, Im not a sour cream fan, but they were really good. They had the borracho beans. They werent a fan of the bacon in the beans, I will have to reevaluate our friendship LOL. I thought they were great and may actually ask for those next time. I also had to order a carne guisada taco (to go) and im glad I did. CG should melt in your mouth. It did. I also had an ICE cold beer in an ICE cold glass ...perfect. This place does have a happy hour (Regular and reverse) and the bar area has two big huge screen TVs, seems like there were a lot of people already taking advantage of that room. And they also had a great party room on the side, pretty big, with some beautiful Lighting in there. All in all, as long as that tortilla is there, I will be there as well . UPDATE... had to try their breakfast tacos. Honestly full disclosure I just wanted more tortillas LOL. Breakfast tacos were great. Rosaria was our server, she was fantastic. Personable and attentive. Thanks Rosaria. And since they have that drive-thru Im thinking about how I can get those tortillas through the drive-thru. that would be really great for an afternoon Hit and Run lol. BYOB. Bring your own butter! UPDATE... Weekends are all about the brunch now. Including the brunch cocktails. Still the home of my mythical magical tortilla. Ummm. Brunch menu is from open to 3pm. If youre not a brunch hound, wait till after 3 on Saturday or Sunday. Its a little bit more expensive than the regular menu but this chef has pulled out all the flavor each dish can offer. Omelets, benedicts, steaks. They make tortillas in house. They make chorizo in house. Yes please. They brought a small plate with these mini biscuits with butter laced with three different berry jams when we sat down. Thank goodness there was an even number to share or this could have gotten ugly. Lol. This place has a warm and wonderful feel. THE MUSIC IS FANTASTIC! Classic and new latin. Wendy was a fantastic server! UPDATE... Ok. Not sure whats happening or maybe its just a fluke. All new employee faces. Didnt recognize anyone. What happened with happy smiling faces. Hmm. Tortillas have changed to thinner and a bit chewy. Older? No breakfast anymore so they now open at 1030 instead of 7am. Mexican plate was ok. Nothing special. I did like the puffy taco, a bit greasy but Ptacos can be. My friend had the fideo loco. Very small bowl for $10. They werent impressed. I know when the server put it down I thought they ordered soup. My friend stirred it around. Found some fideo in all that loco lol. In a nut shell, i probably will only go occassionaly for brunch DRIVE THROUGH AVAILABLE. HH. If you say brunch, you need to say Maria Bonita! Parking: Finally figured out the parking lot LOL. A few spots in the front. Then if youre facing the building to the left theres a full parking lot. And if need be, theres more parking to the right and what looks like it shares with an office building. You will see signs that say this is Maria Bonita parking as well. DRIVE THROUGH AVAILABLE

Very nice classy atmosphere, drinks were superb with garnishments that just wowed our table; mariachi came in and performed on stage and the acoustics were out of this world and amazing to the ears. The Bar: We didnt realize it had a bar for pre-drinks before dinner which now I know, highly recommend, and will return for that experience, this is only the second establishment Ive been to with fine dining lunch or dinner that had this Bar feature. Dined at this new spot recently - and you should too! All red, green and brown roasted salsas were on point, as well as the mole has great flavor so the enchiladas will be a repeat. The table also spoke highly of their fajita plate, along with the authentic handmade corn tortillas, which are a preferable option. Take it down with a margarita con Tajin on the rim... definitely worth the visit to a local, hidden gem!

It was or first time here. We were two and we got a table right away. From outside it looks like another old neighborhood house but inside is totally different with amazing Mexican decor, music and ambiance. Updated 5/5/24: we keep coming back because the food quality and service never disappoint. Our new favorite meal is brunch - the avocado toast blew me away. Updated 7/20/23: new menu with new prices. I was surprised what went up and what stayed the same. I wont be getting street tacos anymore unless I really crave them. Otherwise delicious food and courteous service hasnt changed! Updated 1/13/23: we continue to visit regularly. Lunches are reliably quick if you get the lunch special. Ask for the avocado salsa too. Delicious! Updated 9/17/22: Several subsequent visits have shown that the management really addressed any issues that arose in the first few months. The service has become reliable, courteous, and the food has remained impeccable. The mariachis on Wednesday will knock your socks off. No lunch or dinner on Mondays. Updated 7/8/22: Growing pains. The food is now taking a very long time at lunch, so no more in and out in an hour. Also, if you cannot speak Spanish, you will need to ask for an English fluent wait staff. Its really frustrating when you cant communicate and have to flag others down to translate. Original 6/10/22 review: We were not expecting the awesomeness that we found here. Beautiful first impression, tasty chips and salsa while waiting, and then, the food... Friday lunch special for me, standard San Antonio plate for my companion. And HOMEMADE CORN TORTILLAS. Oh boy! Frickin delicious. Due to time and price constraints, lunch tends to be a compromise. In and out within an hour, belly full, and achy to come back without restriction and have some margaritas. We. There is alot of good Mexican food in SA so it is always good to find new restaurants to try. This one is definitely one to try. It has incredibly good dishes. This was my first time here. We celebrated my Mom s 66th Birthday and the food was delicious. The food came out really fast. I had the Carne Guisada plate with cheese. The meat was so tender and the Tortillas were homemade and fresh. This was a Saturday night so not sure if they have a DJ all the time, but he started playing music at around 8:30 pm and they have a reverse happy hour starting at 9:00 pm. I recommend getting there early because it got busy. I recommend this place for good food, atmosphere, and service.

A party of 20 waited one hour to be seated even with a reservation. The bill was wrong and extra items were added. When cutting the cake for my friends bday, they didn t offer plates or forks. I would not be coming back and I don t recommend anyone to come eat at this establishment. The food took forever. The parking is very limited and non existent.

Was in San Antonio recently and Maria Bonitas was recommended by a local as a great Tex- Mex spot. Had the Birria Plate and it was amazing. The house made corn tortillas were great and will make it hard to go back eating anything else! Got a Tres Leches to take back to the hotel for latter and it did not disappoint be sure to save room for some the next time you go. The worst experience in my life. We took my cousin that was visiting from out of town and unfortunately I will never recommend that place ever. We had very poor service. We had to ask for a server over 40 minutes after bringing our drinks. Then after he brought our food he never came back to ask if we needed refills or anything at all. If after complaining to the manager things did not improve. Sorry Maria Bonita but I will not be back. This experience left a sour taste in my mouth.

Had a good time here on a date night with the hubby. We had the rib-eye street tacos and chicken puffy tacos. Both meals had very tender meat. Had a flight of margaritas that were good. When getting a flavored frozen margarita I would just note that it is going to be very sweet. They had a DJ starting at 8 on a Saturday and that was cool. We will definitely go again! We sat at the bar and the bar tenders were very tentative to our food and drink orders. A manager named Jesus came and checked on us which was nice. Only thing I would ask for is more craft beers on tap.

We arrived shortly after they opened (opens at 9 am) on Saturday the 27th of July. The business was not very busy at all yet and there were only 2 other tables and there were 3 waiters for the tables bot others were around waiting on business. Service was very very slow. The Menus that we were given were different than what was on the website and I even asked about that and was told that the New Menu had been out a little over 2 months! (BUT THEY DID NOT UPDATE IT ON THE WEBSITE????) I had a hard time ordering breakfast because I had already decided on something and it was not available. People behind us got some biscuits and those were not on the menu!!!! The food was very flavorful and served hot but the service was horrible for not being busy and the the mistakes on the food availability will dictate that I will not return. And the restaurant owners why they loose business and have bad reviews. Get with the program and get back to the basics of service and making things correct!

Firstly, it was a lot of trouble to try to make a reservation here for our large party. We called several times and given the runaround and told to talk with the manager and then when asked to speak with them, we were told the manager wasnt in. Finally we had to email the manager to get a reservation and then was confirmed for 730 seating but to let the host know when we got there and also when we had half our party in case we could be seated a little earlier. When we went up to the hostess, they very rudely told us that we had it for 730 so thats when wed be seated. When we got seated we had separate tables for our entire party. Seemed like our waitress was slightly confused by this for some reason. We asked to be seated in a very long booth right next to us and was denied. Throughout the dinner we had to ask several times (at least 4 times) for our drinks, refills, food items, etc. Though it seemed that everyone else around us was getting excellent service and served quickly, and we were almost being ignored. Only once we got our food out did we suddenly get constant service and cleaned away our plates very quickly, as if they wanted us to leave already. The food itself was very good, thankfully. Im just upset the service here was not the best and needs improvement, especially if its advertised outside to Call us to host your private events.

This is a super awesome Mexican restaurant. The cheese enchiladas are to die for and the margaritas are small but mighty! Our waitress was the best! Evelyn thank you for everything. I m shocked with the amount of raving reviews. Every single person in my group was disappointed in every dish. It was just lacking flavor. Claiming to be authentic Mexican cuisine is a far reach. The beans had the kick but not the rich flavor. The verde sauce on the enchiladas were so sour that it was not editable. The barria tacos were not dipped in the soup but glazed. Why even call them barria?? The mixed fajita chicken we got were undercooked. Our drinks came after our food and our food was lukewarm. I m giving a star because the peach tea, chips and salsa were good; but I ve still had better. Maybe it s a San Antonio thing, as I haven t tasted any Mexican food that can compare to Mexico.

Ordered the Birria Street Tacos, Birria and the broth . Too Salty Flavor was good once you get past the saltiness. Had to order something different. Charro beans may have been from a can mixed with spices and veggies. Ordered a flight of margaritas on the rocks, they brought me frozen margaritas, then took a long time making the correct order. The frozen margaritas had pretty much melted by then. Over all, atmosphere seems pretty good.

I live a few blocks from this restaurant and dined at the location numerous times when it was La Fonda Oakhills. I have only been by a few times when it became Maria Bonita despite the service was never really that good. I knew the staff back when it was La Fonda Oakhills and they were all so warm and welcoming. Maria Bonita staff is quite the opposite. My last time I didnt even eat because after waiting for 45 mins for a table and seeing others get seated before me (that arrived after me) was pretty infuriating so we just left. The hostess was unapologetic about when I asked her about it and she even admitted that the last couple seated before me was added after me on the waitlist. The manager was right there and didnt express any concern either. I drive by this restaurant daily and it is packed almost every time. I have no clue why. The food is just ok. It must be the drinks (I dont drink). Alcohol seems to make bad service more bearable. I will just go down to Blanco cafe for my enchilada fix. At least there I get seated in under an hour every time and in a first come, first served manner. The manager there doesnt mess around with seating process and I appreciate that.

Great happy hour prices, delicious margaritas. The presentation for them was great. They re strong and for $6 during happy hour, definitely worth it. The space is cute. Food is texmex, nothing special. Half the menu is an enchilada, or you can get a little crazy and order an enchilada with a crispy taco lol. If you like texmex the food is good but not amazing.
