We were so disappointed this time! After finishing our lunch to see roaches, walk across the table and on the wall next to our table. No, we did not say anything. We just hurried up and paid our bill and took off out of there. I would much rather leave than start conflict.

The smell of fabuloso was too strong! I ordered the chicken curry and by the time it got to me it was warm and tasted like fabuloso. The fish was amazing the onion rings and burger was great too. I couldn t eat my plate. I sat outside and the furthest away from from the door and the smell was in every bite of food. I don t see how anyone could eat like that.

Sadly we were rushed for time and picked the place that looked most likely to accommodate for lunch on a Sunday. The best news was that they were open on Sunday and they were pretty quick since no one else was eating big clue? The food was OK. Nothing bad but nothing that would make me want to come back. Atmosphere was dead but it was a mid-summer Sunday lunch. Server was available but not attentive- brought an extra entree when we said we wanted to share one and then she was upset that we had to remind her to take the extra off the bill. Probably a great place to drink on the riverwalk but I would not recommend for food

We were so looking forward to an Irish pub in San Antonio after just returning from a vacation in Ireland. This food was delicious, but it was very much like a sports bar with American metal and loud music playing over the speakers. This was a huge bummer, especially after our nearby Riverwalk parking costs us $25 and we just came for lunch!

Tipped 20% and received what I assumed was the whole order from bar. NOPE! Missing half. Walked back to find out what happened. OOPPs. We screwed up. Here are your soggy onion rings. Did not offer to replace. No real genuine apology as per usual in this era. River Walk San Antonio has been a disaster service wise and food wise. What happened?? Nice location on Riverwalk but food was of low quality. Mashed potatoes were INSTANT potatoes at a restaurant charging $20 plus dollars per entree. Fish and chips are from frozen not fresh on either. Not good. The waitress had rhe audacity to tell me I was over complicating things after I asked her how an Irish car bomb was served at the establishment. It turned out I was not over complicating anything as she made the drink the wrong way! She never came back to ofger another drink, didnt give us any plates and when my wife asked doe water she never asked if I wanted water and so she brought exactly 1 cup of water. The chicken pot pie was a flaky pop-tart resting on a glop of Campbells clam chowder without the clams. I doubt any of this matters as thr place is in a high tourist traffic area. Obviously, good service is not on the top of their list when it comes to surviving as a business. Anyone else will sit where I sat as soon as I left.

Five years ago, I had an amazing experience with the chicken pot pie here. However, during my recent visit, I ordered the chicken pot pie again, but unfortunately, it tasted like the cream had gone sour, making it nearly inedible. Additionally, the hostesss demeanor was rather rude, though the waiter was friendly and accommodating. Moreover, the floor inside the restaurant was dangerously slippery; my mom and I nearly fell. To add to the disappointment, their frozen machine was broken, so we couldnt enjoy their famous frozen Irish coffee. Overall, this revisit was a significant letdown.

DO NOT GET THE FISH AND CHIPS The fish and chips were just a small part of our terrible experience. When we first got there we walked in to a very unpleasant smell. We all got waters because the prices are outrageous. The cheapest thing there was about 15 dollars. The water was from the sink and only had very few ice cubes in them and keep in mind it is very hot in the restaurant. The waiter added a meal that wasn t even mentioned to her when we ordered and got one of our family members orders wrong and barked back at him that she heard the waxy burger even though that was never said once during his order. The food took a little bit to come out but not too long so that was the only decent thing that happened. My brother got his food first and he ordered the fish and chips they looked good on the plate so we all thought he was being overdramatic when he didn t like it but I tried it and it had ZERO flavor and had a really bad aftertaste. It was the absolute worst fish I ve ever had But it wasn t only the fish that was bad the burger patty looked like a hockey puck was wayyyy overcooked and dry. The Sheppard pie was only halfway decent and the meat in it was cold. I would choose any other restaurant to eat at. I wish I wasn t lying but that was the worst restaurant experience I ve ever had from the service to the food it was awful. If you ever think about going here than you should re-think your decision and go literally anywhere else because even McDonald s would be a better choice than this restaurant.

Waxy OConnors definitely has a lot going for it. The location is unbeatable - right on the Riverwalk in the heart of downtown San Antonio. You cant beat the vibe sitting outside on the patio and soaking up the atmosphere. The building itself is pretty cool too - supposedly shipped over from Ireland! Its got that classic Irish pub feel. Now, the food is a different story. It wasnt just lackluster; it was downright disappointing. Despite the charming surroundings, the food at Waxy OConnors fails to live up to expectations. While the menu boasts a variety of Irish-inspired dishes, the execution often falls short. Diners may find the fare to be lackluster, lacking the flavorful punch expected from traditional Irish cuisine. The dishes, ranging from wings to nachos and burgers, lacked the authentic taste and quality one would hope for in an Irish pub. The flavors were uninspired, and the overall dining experience left much to be desired. Nevertheless, the pubs friendly staff and extensive drink selection help to redeem the overall dining experience. Whether youre stopping by for a pint of Guinness or to soak in the lively atmosphere, Waxy OConnors Irish Pub offers a memorable outing, albeit with a significant letdown in the culinary department. Overall, Waxys is a decent choice for a drink and some live music (they have it every night!) in a fantastic location. Just dont go there expecting a culinary revelation

This is a good traditional Irish pub located on the Riverwalk. You can drink and dine by the river or go into the well-appointed pub inside. I usually prefer the indoor pub because of the atmosphere. A very good selection of Scottish and Irish whiskies and a few Irish brews on tap. Food is really good too. During this visit, the indoor bar was really smelly, maybe the toilets or residual cooked food. Service is always friendly and prompt.

Had family visiting and we wanted to eat somewhere on the Riverwalk. We picked this place because my niece is a picky eater. They had mozzarella sticks and chicken tenders, two of her favourite things. She opted for the mozzarella sticks and they were excellent. My granddaughter ordered the chicken tenders and they were huge. Tasty as well. Overall, we enjoyed all our food selections for the exception of the Reuben sandwich. It was a bit dry and the bread was extra toasty, burnt some would say. It is a pub with a chill atmosphere. Service was excellent.

Before I went to the restaurant I looked at their website and read their accessibility statement. When I got there I was given dirty looks from the hostess. Shes on proceeded to deal with other people and kept giving me stairs like when is he going to leave. Its a parent that this restaurant is suffering from what many of the restaurants in San Antonio are suffering from especially downtown. They seem to think that anybody who is disabled must be homeless and have no money. Just cuz Im in a wheelchair because of my car accident I have a lot of money and I was looking to do an entire big dinner of shepherds pie as well as the Irish brown bread. But after the root treatment of the staff I chose to leave. The last time I was there was 5 years ago and it was a beautiful experience a real five-star experience. And the fact that they have no sense of customer service there, its obviously that the restaurant was taken over by the woman from Mexico who owns Ritas on the River. But even at Ritas on the River they have a great sense of customer service.

This is a wonderful location to go watch a game or sit on the Riverwalk to people/boat watch. They do have heaters outside if you get cold. We got mozzarella sticks and potatoe skins as apps and got chicken strips, a burger, fish (cod) and chips, and fish (cod) sandwich. The fries were homemade for sure. The chicken strips were HUGE, basically breast size, well worth the money with a homemade batter that was so crunchy. Everything was delicious, and for the price and location..worth it. We had a primary waiter but were visited by 2 or 3 different people, which made the service great. We came on a Monday night around 6 pm, and it was a great time.

Great location and good food- standard Irish pub fare but nothing outstanding. Service was timely and friendly, though they have a camera girl come around to take photos for promoting the restaurant. Shell then take photos of every pairing at the table and come back ten minutes later trying to sell the prints at $12 a pop. Im not opposed to a tourist trap catching its bait (I even bought some prints myself), I was just a little surprised how upfront the salesman attitudes were. That said, when we were finished with our meal and the print I requested had not been made yet, our server went out of his way to make sure it made its way to me before I left. Its clear they have an outstanding crew of servers. And you cant beat the location. $20/plate without alcohol. Their apple walnut bread pudding was great!

Hostess was nice, although she may not have been in the best mood that day because she literally just dropped us off and left us with the menus. We went for dinner with my 4 year old son and 1 year old baby nephew. Unfortunately, the baby was having a tantrum and I was worried that the staff would chase us away lol, but the waitress (I cant remember her name, sorry) brought us some orange slices and cherries to calm him down and brought lemonade for both kids for free. That was very nice of her! Dinner was delicious, the chicken tenders (not nuggets, chicken tenders) that I ordered for my kiddo were delicious, such as the shrimp and the grilled chicken sandwich. What I liked the most was that the fries were homemade, not the frozen ones. The place is small but convenient if you are walking along the riverwalk and looking for a quick bite to eat and continue your walk.

I was hungry for a sandwich and was walking along the river and thought that this might be a good place for a corn beef Ruben. It was OK. It wasn t the best one I have had but I thought for an Irish pub it would be over the top I guess it seemed a little dry to me and didn t have a lot of sauce on it and I didn t really taste the cheese, and the bread seemed more like a white bread, then like a traditional rye bread, or marble rye, or caraway rye I did taste caraway, so maybe it was that kind of bread, but it was dark, so it was harder to see I guess. The fries were OK but the thing was they just dumped either the basket or the pan that they put them in after seasoning on my plate so I got all the little pieces and crumbs to go along with a good fries which was kind of a turn off, I would go back and try something different I guess

Seriously, this place needs to be on the show Bar Rescue. I made the mistake of stopping there while experiencing the Riverwalk. 1).Why would you allow a dog to be inside the bar? 2). Why do you allow your employees to stroll through the bar with their bicycle to the back if the bar? 3). How can the server stand there, pat and play with the dog, and walk behind the bar and serve drinks? What happened to washing hands? 5). Lastly, why name this place an Irish pup, serve a sandwich thats dry as the sand, with the toughest meat that was called steak, plus potatoes that was simply add water and stir. Run away from this place.

The waitress was nice just inattentive didn t bring items asked for like water ketchup for fries. It s a great location and food was good they just need to work on the customer service. Had a late lunch early dinner around 3:00pm. Place was NOT busy so that was not an excuse for poor service

I was treated extremely poorly by the manager on shift today. I visited for the first time yesterday after hearing my coworkers rave about the wings. My experience yesterday with the employees was great. Today I went in to order wings and fries before work. I really enjoyed the wings yesterday so I returned today. When I walked in there was no one around to take my order. I was searching for an employee and at first I was saying hello in a low tone in hopes someone would come out. I then saw an employee cleaning a table so I went over and told him I was looking for someone to take my to go order. He said the bartender will take my order. I explained to him that there isn t anyone at the bar. I thought he would tell someone that there was a customer waiting. He didn t. So I said hello loudly a few times thinking someone would realize there is a customer there waiting. The manager came out and immediately scolded me. He asked why I was screaming. I told him I said hello loudly because I was trying to get the attention of an employee thinking that maybe they weren t aware someone walked in. He said they were busy and that I could leave. I said sir I am really hungry and really wanted to order food to take to work. He said he wasn t doing it and I could leave. I resorted to begging him as I didn t have time to go somewhere else and my sugar was dropping. I explained to him that my intention was not to be rude at all, I was simply trying to get the attention of an employee. He refused several times and then gave in after I begged several times. I apologized and told him I didn t intend any harm. He took my order and I paid him. Before my food came out I saw him again and I said I really appreciate him putting in my order and that I was sorry again. He completely ignored me and walked away as I was speaking to him. I felt so embarrassed and began to cry. I couldn t understand why he was being so mean to me. I was wearing hijab and I felt like maybe that was a problem. I don t know for sure that he had a problem with me being a Muslim but nothing made sense. I wasn t rude to anyone at the restaurant. I left humiliated and in tears. I am new to wearing hijab and I felt very uncomfortable. His anger towards me was a bit much. I love the wings but the way he treated me made me feel horrible.

Our first experience on a Sunday night was nearly flawless. The hostess dropped her vape that I m pretty sure was more than nicotine and there was a woman who had been over served being belligerent but those were minor. I just tried to go back and had the most uncomfortable interaction with an employee who seemed like he was on drugs. When my family tried to ask where our reserved table was two employees who were eating told them to just sit anywhere without trying to really help. It was so uncomfortable my family decided to eat elsewhere.

The shepherds pie was extremely disappointing and extremely low effort. They cooked the ingredients of the pie to be made in 3 steps. They cooked the ground beef and peas not straining the grease together, then dropped some gravy on top, followed by some custard-style squeezed mashed potatoes in a loose spiral before placing all into oven with a very very light crispy on the mash. My 8 year old does a better pie :/. The beer selection was also very lacking. The crispy fish sandwich was less than desirable and lacked some very needed flavor. I think there is clear reason why this place isn t very popular when visiting Posted @ 530p on a Wednesday An employee very clearly didn t wash his hands

Went to Waxy OConnors Irish Pub on the San Antonio Riverwalk over the weekend and it was horrible. So much for spontaneous decisions! My lady friend and I were recommended to go there because they are dog friendly, so theyd give us some water for him as we ventured further from my vehicle than we initially planned. The female server, Marie, gave my friend and I attitude for just asking for water for my dog. Eventually ignoring us and going inside, another server, Joey(?), came out to ask what we needed and immediately went to the stand that Marie was first at, to get a dog dish and put some water in it for my buddy. My friend asked if they had what she was looking for and he told us that they didnt serve it there but some of the other establishments do/might. We left and came back to catch our ride and decided to get something from Waxys since Joey was so helpful, but Marie came back outside and started in with us about petty things that we were told by her coworker that was fine. When asked she lied and said that this was against the law and that. All the while my dog was being barked at by the other customers dogs and he just sat there looking at them (trained), our cups that she made a big deal about was taken off of the table, etc. She had NO REASON to give us problems but went out of her way to do so. Finally tired of her sh*t, my friend asked to speak with the manager. Again, she lied and said that there wasnt a manager. She went inside anyway and spoke to him while Joey continued to apologize and smooth over the situation with me. We canceled our order and left. In talking about this on the boat, we discovered that the boat driver has had similar run-ins with Marie and looking at other reviews, this is prevalent! She must be a part of the owners family, or the entire establishment is like her to continue to get these terrible reviews (IMO). Looking at other reviews and thinking back, it seems that the complaints dont come from a certain demographic as much. Hey, what do I know? Im just a minority Veteran that makes decent money that still gets treated this way in 2023. No! That last statement is not a conclusion that I jump to easily.

A female server (shorter & heavy built, Marie is her name) had a very nasty attitude with us. We asked for water for our dog (they gave water to other dogs so we knew it was okay). She looked at us rudely, walked away & never came out. Another waiter (a male, Joey) came out with water & was very apologetic. We ended up leaving. On our way back, we see the nice waiter (Joey) who continued to be apologetic to us. We decided to order wings. Theres another couple outside (near us) with two dogs eating their meal. We order our wings & the same female waiter comes out with attitude telling us we cant have our outside cups on the table. We tell her its fine, well move, but the other guy said its OK & she needs to be better about how she speaks to customers. She continued to be rude so I finally went off on her. Asked to speak to the manager, she said there is none. I go inside & explain to a gentleman behind the bar (he said hes a manager) how shes been excessively rude. She comes in behind me, being rude & lying saying that were upset because she told us we cant have cups on the table. Then she pushed me from behind to get to the register & claimed she was trying to get to the register. I told her she needs to say excuse & if she touches me again, I will defend myself. She continued being rude. Another guy comes & I explain my frustration. Thankfully she stayed quiet this time. I informed him theyre going to lose customers because of how rude she is. She went out of her way to be rude & make sure we knew we were not welcomed there. We get on a Go Rio boat & announce that we do not recommend this restaurant because that server (Marie) is super rude. The Go Rio boat driver shared that Im right because she had a similar experience. She went in with her coworker and had a similar experience with Marie going out of her way being rude, ignoring them, etc. Similar to my experience. Marie feeling that comfortable to be so blatantly rude to customers & no one said or did anything. Bad business practice. I dont recommend this place. However, Joey really made up for her unprofessionalism. Thank you Joey. They need to fire Marie. Shes disgusting in every way.

If I had the option to just delete this place from google, I would. Staying in the US from the last 7 years I have never seen a restaurant manager so rude that I had to call on the cops. Just because my husband was waiting on a table since we were with our whole family, the manager (he is bald) comes and starts swearing on my husband! Out of no reason! And then he says he will call the cops. For what? For us waiting for a table to get cleaned so that the family can eat? And on that the audience there was so racist! Omg! I dnt know what is this world heading towards! Can t rate food since I didn t eat but can rate the manager- below zero!

Really terrible customer service and very very rude bartenders Arrived at 10.30pm and they didnt even sit us and told us we can sit anywhere. This was fine , so we just sat at an empty table. However no waiter /bartender came to give us menu or take out order . After almost 20 mins of waiting , we decided to walk up to the bartender to ask if anyone can help take our order. The bartender scowled at us and said that he can see our table and will come to us later. So we sat back down. When he finally came to us, he threw the coasters on the table aggressively and sarcastically said that Im here now what do you want We placed our food order. Then we placed our drinks order. And he asked us for ID . We showed all our drivers license but because it is not a US license he rejected them and asked for passports , we didnt bring our passport as-- who brings passport to bar at 10.30pm? And I asked if we can show a digital picture of passport. He scolded us and said you can only drink of you have an official US license or official passport or else we should just go. Such a disappointing experience. He clearly wanted us to leave -- not sure why , maybe because we were foreigners thats why he was so insistent on US license. And this bar also had a sign that said rule 1 bartender is always right, and rule 2 see rule 1. Clearly they have no clue about customer service Super Rude bar tender Super bad customer service Not welcoming of tourists at all

An Irish Pub located on the San Antonio River Walk. The food quality, musty smell of the restaurant, and bathrooms were underwhelming. Unfortunately, food took a while to arrive and when it did, party members had to wait while others ate. Additionally, hair and cold food were some surprises experienced while eating. However, the Bangers and Mash tasted good and enjoyed. Not sure why the restaurant smelled, but probably something to fix, especially, when some people can be very sensitive to odours and affected by smells. Just because it s a pub doesn t mean the bathrooms need to be dirty, sticky, and smell. This should be an easy thing to maintain Location is good and our wait time was short.

Stopped at Waxy s for lunch. The atmosphere reminded you of a Irish pub but it was very loud inside. Between the talking, the TVs playing and the music playing which was not Irish at all, the bartender could hardly hear us. You really should have Irish music playing in an Irish pub. We ordered a Reuben and Corned beef and cabbage. The Reuben was just ok but I was happy with the amount of potato salad that was given. The corned beef and cabbage came out cold and the corned beef was hard around most of the edges and a couple bites that I tried to take I couldn t even pull it apart. I sent the meal back and didn t eat. We only saw one waitress in the entire establishment. Maybe others will have a better experience. Reuben sandwich with potato salad. Ok Corned beef and cabbage meal - hard edges, tough and cold, had to return. I would not go back.
