My experience at Max & Louis was decent, but it left room for improvement. The ambiance was pleasant, and the menu had a good range of options. However, while the food was flavorful, it didn t quite live up to the expectations I had based on the price. The service, although polite, was slow, and we had to wait quite a while for our food. Overall, it wasn t a bad experience, but there s definitely room for improvement in terms of efficiency and value for money. I might give it another try, but I wouldn t rush back.

Terrible management. They messed up my order and the manager (Charles) didn t even try to make it right. I paid the delivery fees and tips through Uber eats and the manager goes we will make it on the house, you just have to pick it up .???! If I can go pick it up, I would not have paid the delivery fees. I asked for a refund which he said he cannot give. I had to go through UberEats to get a refund. Food is meh will not be ordering from this place again.

Cute spot, but food was so-so! My husband ordered steak and eggs, and the steak was not seasoned at all. It tasted terrible. The waitress was helpful and brought some seasoning out but we should have sent the dish back. At the end of the day, it was way overpriced. We would have been better off splitting a pancake and calling it a day.

Tried the Reuben sandwich with coleslaw and it was delicious and made right. On the Reuben the corn beef was laid in thick and the sauerkraut was for real. Coleslaw was also excellent. Sat at the bar because the place was full but got great service from the bar tender. Place was busy and noisy but I did go right at lunch time. Overall great place and wonderful food.

Koy checked all of the boxes ! We were a table of 7, but the way he took great care of us was almost as if it was easy and a table of 2. Before we could even notice that we needed something, he was already right there on it ready to accommodate all of our needs. From the big things to the small things, he took care of everything and had a big smile on his face while doing it. Koy brought a great positive attitude that radiated in the environment and was humorous as well. He made this experience everything it needed to be and more. 10 out of 10 would definitely recommend !!

If you havent visited here, then youre missing out! Listen, the portions are HUGE, so be sure to bring your appetite! We had ordered just about the best things from the menu.... and man-oh-man I could have ordered 10 more plates to go home with me! Their meatballs we so tender, the pastrami was the real deal, the coleslaw was FRESH, and the pizza I think my fav was their version of the French dips, I literally drank the au jus sauce like a soup.

Been twice. Everything is delicious! If you love desserts, beware! You re going to want to try it all! Went on a Sunday & was busy so sign up online early. Service was amazing! My first time here and I will definitely be back. Shally, our server was marvelous. Very helpful and checked on us regularly. The portions are large, pricey, but I used mine for lunch and dinner. Carrot cake for take away bc we were too full. Next trip I want to try the stuffed cabbage. Had a sliced roast beef on crusty bread and got some au jus. Onion rings are crispy delish. Slaw was OK, but Im not much for raw cabbage. The Pic with the orange is cheddar melted on the tuna melt.

Ive been in San Antonio a little over a year after moving from the northeast and really had been wanting to try this place, and it did not disappoint. Huge portions and very tasty food along with good service and atmosphere. Went for breakfast and had the lox and bagel sandwich and it was delicious! Chose Max and Louie s for our weekly Sunday breakfast outing and man was I impressed! Ok so honestly from the outside you wouldn t expect the amazingness on the inside - but once those doors open your instantly transported by the smells and ambiance. You re no longer in SanAntonio but in a diner in some farwaway place. Passing by the bakery case got my taste buds going. After perusing the menu and ordering I finally got a sip of coffee. And how heavenly it was. It tasted good but the best part was right before I could take my last sip our waitress Sarah was there to fill me up. Everytime. In fact Sarah must have been sent by the server Gods because she was there the moment a thought of wanting something had a chance to pass thru my lips. It wasn t just great service - she anticipated my every need as if she was mine and mine alone. It s funny how I ate the food and it was delicious but none of that would ve mattered if I would ve had an empty cup or an inattentive server. I hope Max and Louie s knows that the true gem isn t the food or the location but the people like Sarah that truely make your establishment successful

Being perfectly fair, it was the lunch rush during a major nearby event. That being said, we couldnt get a reservation for 12 until 1:30 and even then werent seated until 1:45pm. After being seated at two different tables after multiple tables wouldnt leave (again, not holding this against the establishment) we had a good server who was attentive and took the orders well while understanding we were all very hungry. Unfortunately the patty melt I ordered seemed to have no traces of seasoning. Pulled ground beef straight out of a package, packed it and cooked it. Same for my neighbor who ordered the same. Other folks said the food was good so maybe it was our choices.

Food was basic breakfast food, long wait times for both food and to get a table. Our server wasn t the best. Sarah was easily flustered and was rude. She only came to check on us once and made us feel as if we were bothering her for asking for butter. She didnt come back to give us the check we had to go find another server to track her down so we could pay. She didn t even give my brother his change and kept $10 for her tip without giving to him so he could give back.

I recently dined at Max and Louies New York Diner, and it was a fantastic experience. The food was delicious and lived up to its reputation. However, what truly made my visit memorable was the stellar service provided by our waitress, Haven. Haven was attentive, friendly, and went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed. Her warm demeanor and genuine care for our dining experience made us feel welcomed and valued. She was knowledgeable about the menu and provided excellent recommendations that we thoroughly enjoyed. We checked in online while we were at our hotel, which was awesome. We were 70th in place at 8:30am, YES 70th!!! And wed wait again. My husband cant stop talking about our breakfast, so much so he wants to drive from Houston to SA just to experience lunch. The food was amazing. The portions were huge. Miss this place so badly... my husband and I would come every week at a point. Ive tried all their varieties of pancakes, and I ended up sticking with their blueberry pancakes every week, I would always order two pancakes on the side with any meal, sometimes 2 eggs sunny-side up, and usually the meatball hero sub with no cheese and sweet potato fries. My husband was a rigatoni alla vodka kind of guy, with a cup of coffee and two creamers. Everything here is fantastic, from the cheesecake to the service to the atmosphere (but dont get the matzoh ball soup, its quite disappointing haha!), and we havent been able to find a place like it ever since we moved. Will definitely drive the 3 hours down there soon enough.

and don t forget the Pizza This is one of the top 5 breakfast places in San Antonio for sure, hands down. Menu may be the largest selection you ever saw for breakfast / Brunch. And quite a pasted collection. They have a very nice outside area for dining as well as a back room that can be used as normal customer dining during spike times as well as could be an event rent out. Food gets a 5-Star on many levels. Also look at the challenge The Robert Stack if eaten in 25 min is Free Good Luck I never saw anyone that could do it ! This place reminds me of everything we missed in New York! Max and Louie isnt your ordinary gloomy Diner. This place is well-lit, clean, uplifting, and filled with new/returning satisfied customers. Our first experience was mediocre due to our waitress. Obviously, our first experience didnt us from returning because the food quality and the establishment were terrific! On our second visit, we had a better waiter, Will. He was professional, friendly, and attentive. He made our dining experience better. We spent less than 30 minutes overall, which was a bonus. There are plenty of food options on the menu to choose from. We always order our NY-style pizza to go towards the end of our meal. Its the best compared to local pizza here in TX. Lol! Highly recommend and worth the visit. Prices maybe a little high, but the portions are enormous and worth it.

Great atmosphere with good service. 1950s & 1960s type Drive-in dinner look with oldies music. Make sure you have room in your stomach to eat; portion sizes are big. Mix drinks are good but depends on which Bartender is working. Desserts are wonderful with different varieties to choose from. The food was phenomenal!! Ordered the french toast with chicken and eggs/sausage. That was delicious and kids loved it! The greek salad was delicious with the best feta I have ever tasted! Added grilled chicken to the salad, it was flavored well and cooked well the chicken was served cold but I prefer hot freshly cooked chicken on my salad so I would suggest asking for that if that s what you prefer also. I m sure they would accommodate that request. Also tried the lasagna which was very tasty but a very heavy meal for my personal preference. Ive never been to a diner like this and a New York diner at that! The inside was amazing I was really feeling the New York vibe for sure. The atmosphere was a whole vibe just listening to the classic oldies but goodies while eating. Our server Luke was AWESOME he was on his point with the service and kept checking in with to make sure we were good which made the food as well as service that much better. I ordered the chicken parmesan hero with fries it was sooo good and everything is made fresh from the hogi bread (I think thats how you say it) to the tomatoe sauce. This was our second time here so this is based on 2 visits. 1st 5 star second 3 start = average 4. First time, clean, fast service and food was excellent. This time, I had the bagel/lox, only 1/2 the bagel had lox, I opened it up to put cream cheese and started laughing. the bagel was good, but was thick so I couldnt even taste the lox and put minimal cream cheese on. Im from NYC so this was a thumbs down on execution. Ill try again, but I couldnt imagine making a sandwich and only putting ingredients on 1/2. Soda was flat as well. I dont remember the first time as the food outshined anything else.

Luke was absolutely phenomenal!!! I am going to be making a trip back just for how attentive, caring and ontop of everything he was! I havent experienced a waiter come tell me theyre stepping aside for a few minutes for prep work as a heads up, to shortly after come touch base and inform that he was finished with that task. He suggested the French toast grilled cheese and it was so amazing! He wasnt overbearing. And above all he seemed to genuinely care, and I wish I could give more than just 5 stars! We are a frequent flier of Max & Louis brunch (5 stars) but the lunch menu was a bit disingenuous. The idea is there but the food didn t have the authentic taste per my Brooklyn born and raised boyfriend. Recommend a visit to tweak the menu to bring that authenticities we know and love! Also, food sat a bit long which is hard to do for a Ruben sandwich as the bread got so soggy too fast. Look forward to some changes on the next visit!

My first (and most likely last) visit here a few days ago left me feeling disappointed. To begin with, when my mother and I arrived, we stood around for a few minutes before being greeted or led to our table. I chalked it up to them being busy at first, but when another couple walked in, the hostess immediately greeted them. I informed her that we had been waiting, and she asked if we were on the list. I told her we werent, but she still sat us. My mother ordered pork chops and eggs, while I ordered the smoked whitefish salad platter. The prices are relatively high, but I noticed that the portions were generous, so it made sense. Our waitress was pleasant enough, but it took us approximately 20-30 minutes to receive our food. When she brought it out, she noticed they had given me the wrong platter and returned it. It took them about another ten minutes to resolve the situation. The whitefish salad did not look appetizing; it resembled tuna fish. They gave me a generous portion of it, but only one bagel; it was clearly enough for at least two, so I suspect I would have to buy another if I wanted to. The whitefish salads taste was bland, and its texture was similar to tuna fish. Definitely not what I expected, and not worth the $20. My mother also complained that her pork chop was unseasoned and tasted bland. It was not worth the hype, and I will not be returning.

Honest thoughts of this place. It was great. Was greeted friendly, sat fast, served fast. I had the tuna salad sandwich which is huge. I thought the prices were a bit high but you get what you pay for. The quality of ingredients was very fresh. Better than your average sandwich place. Coleslaw, pickle all very fresh and very large portions. My meal had a small issue when arrived however everything was take care professionally and with great care. GREAT experience the second time around thanks to Sheila. She was a top notch server. She was very attentive, provided amazing customer service, and gave great suggestions. The Long Islander Sandwich was a first for me and was plenty for one. The potatoes , and sandwich were delicious. . The French Toast is also highly recommended. It s a big dish, and can serve two. They have plenty of non alcoholic, and alcoholic options to choose from even MIMOSAS! It s is a spacious place that provides lots of seating both inside and outside. It does get VERY busy! So save a spot in line or show up early. I loved that I was allowed to put some confetti on the table for a little birthday decor, and they sang happy birthday They also have cakes/cupcakes for purchase. Living 4 hours away this was our first but definitely not the last visit. Luke our server was awesome! Very friendly and kind personality. He gave a bunch of good recommendations for foodie picks. Offered up amazing service, food was hot and fresh, they make almost all of their sauce in house and the bbq sauce was sooooo good. Even took home some cookies and pastries for the drive back. They have everything for breakfast lunch and dinner. French toast is thick and the bread is on another level. Burgers and sweet potatoe fries werent a disappointment. Waffles and the chocolate chip pancakes were on point A must stop spot for any time of the day for sure adding to the family favorite list

The only thing that is disappointing is we ve lived here for years and had never dined here! I asked the waitress cheeseburger or lasagna? She said the lasagna hands down so I went with it. Wow just wow layers of deliciousness! It s so much I was able to take home half for the next day. The flavor, the presentation, aroma, and the freshness 5 stars. Our son had a sundae after his meal and his eyes light up when he saw the size of it. He was thinking a scoop of ice cream in a bowl no sir not at Max and Louie s! Excellent customer service and very accommodating. I had the burger,fries and shake combo, it was delicious. Everyone else enjoyed the items they ordered as well. We came here with a large crowd and ended up waiting one hour and forty-five mins to be seated. Once we were seated, they set us up in different areas/tables to fit our party. Which unfortunately left us all squeezed in. The place gets packed!!! The hype online and around town brings tons of people to this place. The food is overpriced for sure, but you get a large amount of food. Enough to take home and eat it for the next two days, lol. Their sandwiches, hot dogs, hoagies, and calzone are 60% bread. Speak up if you run into the issue, or better yet, let them know when you order to not be shy with it. If you order anything with pasta, its the same thing. Youll end up with a pound of pasta and very little everything else. Their strawberry milkshakes, tho are perfection! It truly is a must-have. Their maple syrup is heaven! The atmosphere could be better. Staff could be better. Management should be more attentive and not forget about you after you request one. Come here if youre hungry and have almost two hours to waste on waiting and another forty minutes to sit there and wait for your food. Youll spend a pretty penny here.

Friends told us about and raved about their breakfast. Food was okay, but certainly not what we were expecting. But the problem was with the service, or should I say lack of service. Waitress was lackadaisical to begin with, and then only came back once during the meal and then she disappeared. We got seated within minutes at 11:40 and ended up sitting at our table with only drinks until 12:30. Waiter came to our table once to say it ll be right out around 12:15. Food never came and server never came back. We understand its a Saturday and it was INSANELY packed. But to be sitting for almost an hour? Not our ideal brunch. We decided to just leave and let management know what the issue was and why we wanted to leave. At this point the server came up to us and asked what was the problem and we told him as well. We even said it wasnt his fault and that we know its busy. But he got really defensive and to be honest, rude. Even after we assured him it wasnt his fault. The manager was very understanding and kind and asked if we would still like to wait but we declined and opted for bill millers instead. Again, the manager was very kind but the server was not.

Food is great! Service is poor. I was in town due to a family medical emergency. After an exhausting day at the hospital, I grabbed dinner here around 7:15 PM. By 8 PM, my food still had not been served. The waitress came to my table and said that another server had mistakenly served my meal to another table, so mine has to be remade. She apologized for the wait. By 8:15 PM, I had my food, but the eggs were not done in the middle. Notice that they were served to me with the bacon concealing the middle of my runny eggs. I ate the outer edges but explained to the waitress that they weren t cooked thoroughly. I didn t ask for them to be remade. I was charged for the meal with no offer to speak to a manager, which is poor customer service in my opinion.

Glad my friend suggested having breakfast together at Max & & Louies New York Diner rather than at one of the old standard restaurants. Might be a little more expensive but worth it. Impressed from the offset. Full parking lot. Outside sitting & dining available . Bright pretty Decor Customers packed inside dining rooms. Friendly helpful receptionist. Nice dessert displays. What we ordered for breakfast from menu with a few substitutions was bountiful, needing a carryout. Our waitress, Twana, was always there on the spot when we needed her. Food was good. What made eggs and hash browns more special was how they were served - in a small skillet. Especially enjoyed their sesame bagel with garlic cheese spread. Customers leaving Max & Louies were just as thrilled, cheerful, and happy as we were with this unique dining experience.
