My very first impression of La Ruina was amazing, mojitos are my favorite drink and the woman bartender nailed it. I returned 3 more times where I had different bartenders who made a mojito that was not good. I was trying to go when the original bartender was working since she had left the good impression but with many failures I decided this was not the place for me anymore. But last night, I decided to begin my evening at La Ruina, as I have not been in a very long time. When I arrived there were 3 bartenders (assuming) standing around and took a while to acknowledge me, the customer (not busy during the early evening). I finally ordered the usual mojito. The bartender proceeded to charge me for my order, hand me over the receipt with a pen, ring up 3 other customers. And THEN began making my order. I was confused since I ve never seen that done before (I typically get my drink made then get charged) I held off on writing the tip yet to see how the bartender would continue. She then started making someone else s drink while still not finishing mine (which is understandable still being patient) then I finally got my drink after waiting a while. Meanwhile, no friendly interaction, not even a smile. The mojito was a 3/5. I used to enjoy La Ruina, but I no longer will be a patron here nor will I recommend this place to my friends. The customer service is not there, and I just would rather spend my dollars elsewhere. The food pop-up did pass around samples of their rice which was amazing.

I randomly picked this place looking for great drinks. Unfortunately I dnt knw the bar tender name but the drinks were wonderful! We had the barter special- jamaican rum punch !!! Sooo good and strong. The other beautiful drink was the mangonada with chili pepper salt. That was good also. I recommend this hidden gem. Oh and its was outdoor eating area that sells jamaican food. The place itself has nice seating a nice ambience

This place turns into one spicy dance floor after hours! This is when we arrived around 10 pm but the place was bumping on a Saturday night and we were all feeling alright! They had a DJ going off and laying it down. Very cool spot!

Olaf is the undisputed, reigning heavyweight of San Antonio mixology. There are no words, there is no review, that can do La Ruina justice. If you ever had the privilege of being served by the man himself at The Modernist, you would have received an experience in a glass that defies words on a page, or in a menu. The Modernist was his Shawshank Redemption, standing in the cleansing rain, freedom to express come what may in the moment, every sample tailored to lips it was crafted for. In that light, La Ruina is more than an encore. Its his Zihuatanejo: A well earned reward, a respite driven only by the will to create something quintessential San Antonio. This pure expression of taste borne from an incredibly well honed craft, focused by an uncannily sharp eye, is Mexican magical realism distilled. A small room, off a nothing-special street - if Olafs history is anything to go by - will be as ephemeral as it is incredible. Skip it at your peril.

Was downtown at the river walk, went to this restaurant had a 20 minute wait so were told we cold wait at the outside bar. It was in the shade so we did, I decided to order a margarita and it was served to me in a super small plastic cup. It wasnt worth the money spent plus bartender wasnt friendly when I paid machine was asking for a tip, for what?

One of my favorite bars in San Antonio. The atmosphere is warm and intimate- not necessarily romantic, but cozy and inviting for friends and loved ones to have chats together for drinks. My favorite drinks are the Pica Fresa shots and the Rum & Ting. Also try their in-house sangira. Must haves.

Food and cocktails are amazing. Atmosphere and decor wow! As with the cocktail scene, it s becoming normal for service to be off, depending on the bartender s personality which suck when you re not paying pennies on their drinks and worse when friends are excited to be there for the first time. I gave service a 4 bc at least one female bartender has very a dry personality but the rest of the bartenders are pretty superb.

Best Bar in San Antonio. I got a mojito because missed when Burn notice was on air over at USA, but they are more rum and tequila focused. The owners used to run a place called The Modernist, this is their second known project together and its fantastic. At the first venture, they had no menu for quite some time. To say they are competent would be an understatement. Everything is slightly beyond fantastic in its own right, overarching context compared to anything else in the city at this level of formality or lower. The Cuba Libre has their delicious 5 rum blend of which I am a super fan. But why this whole blurb? Support cool local stuff from kind people if you want it to stick around. Simple things are not complicated. Thanks to owners and staff for one of my favorite sa experiences. Go yesterday.

Went for the 1st time on a Friday evening. The crowd was good and the atmosphere was better. Nice chill place and the music wasnt blasting so my group could actually have a conversation. I didnt try the food because I ate right before. The staff was great and knowledgeable. I tried 2 different cocktails and this is the only not so great thing is. The drinks were good but not what you would expect from a craft cocktail bar. Would recommend and will try to go back and try other cocktails.

Cocktail bar only. I was invited by friends and went in with an assumption that there could be some fingers foods which there werent. My fault though, I should have researched. Apart from that the place is neat, good drinks, good music. Feels a bit smaller if there are larger crowds but definitely a nice place to hang out with friends and grab a drink, or 2.

From the minds behind The Modernist comes one of San Antonio s newest and most aesthetically STUNNING bar! Wether you re perpetuating your green thumb at Tillage, sprucing up your look at Traveler, or enjoying a chic dinner at Scorpion, you must, and I mean MUST, end your evening with a cocktail from La Ruina! Peep the bar menu in the photos. However, La Ruina continues the Modernist tradition of employing exceptional bartenders who can whip up a curated cocktail should you wish to enjoy a custom drink. Expect very chill vibes, handsome clientele, and some of the best, well thought out cocktails in San Antonio. If you re still practicing social distancing their patio is also lovely.
